I was anxious that the Miku wasn't there, but you came through in the end.
It certainly seemed like one of the most fun pedal demo's you'd ever done.
And I am a huge fan of Devin's Ocean Machine - I need to get one of those on my pedalboard one day.

    • @Bill-Door
      @Bill-Door 9 месяцев назад

I was a big fan of the ocean machine, too... For the first 2 years until it suddenly died on me. I tried looking for a fix online, and apparently it's really common for them to die after 2 or 3 years.
Id recommend buying a couple used flackback delays and hall of fame. The delays on the flashback are more versatile than most of the ocean machine delays, and the hall of fame has a nicer sounding reverb than the ocean machine, just remember to get the hall of fame 2 if you want shimmer with your reverb.
No pedal is perfect and there's always a chance one will die on you, but I've seen so many negative experiences with the ocean machine bricking on them, and at least if its a flashback or hall of fame that dies in you, it's just a single affordable pedal you need to replace, not your whole delay and reverb system.

Pretty much anything from Walrus audio is a winner, but the Big Daddy of pedals is(of course) the Empress Zoia. It fits perfectly near the start of the signal chain, and nearly any pedal used after it gets a touch of the Zoia mojo. Limitless possibilities.

    • @compucorder64
      @compucorder64 Год назад

Agree, Eventide, Strymon, Empress, OBNE, Earthquaker, Walrus, Meris, Source Audio, Hologram, Chase Bliss, and maybe very roughly in that Timeline, are the gods of the 2011+ pedalverse. And recently, Darkglass have dominated, if you are coming from the bass end of sound. Pick one pedal from each, and you'd be getting close to the best of the last 20+ years. Even if it might cost 3000-4000+! Some from older manufacturers too, that look to the past but are pretty takes, like the Boss DM-101 is a great idea.

I have my own list. See what you think
    1. Wampler Soveriegn distortion.
    2. Neunaber Immerse Reverberator (can't find the first one)
    3. Jimi Hendrix Mini Wah. Insane amount of throw
    4. ISP Decimator II noise gate. Best noise suppressor EVER
    5. MXR 10 band EQ KFK signature. 18v of tone shaping with KK's curve. So good
    6. EHX Deluxe Memory Man 550-TT. It is a looper/delay but does something to the tone that is just pure magic.
    7. Boss DS-1X Distortion. The classic with modern gain. More than you'll ever need/use/want
    8. JHS Paul Gilbert PG14. It has this way of shaping the mid freq that makes lead sound dope af
    9. EHX Freeze. Play a note, step on the button, it holds forever or gradual decay that's adjustable
    10. Boss TU-3W Waza Craft chromatic tuner. Already perfect, somehow made better. Some kind of sorcery I am sure.
And the worst, most useless most unmusical pedal ever made is the DOD Gonkulator ring modulator. I returned it, they didn't WANT it back. He told me that they have sold that exact pedal 7 times previous and it's been returned all 7 times. He refunded my money, told me to keep it. I tossed it in the trash can by the front door on my way out. That's how bad a sound it makes. If you want something to sound like a Star Wars laser, get a synth. Do not waste anything on that dogshit device. You have been warned. And anyone who tries to defend it or offer a real use? They're opinion has just been proven worthless and not to be trusted to choose what flavor iced cream to buy. Get a new friend.

Definitely agree with a lot of these, a friend of mine uses a BD-2 as their main drive sound (which was also their first guitar pedal) and a GE-7 to balance it out and she says that they're some of the best pedals she's ever used (not to mention they're great pedals for any level of player), and it was definitely worth it having the Miku at the end because it's such an impractical meme pedal but you can have the dumbest fun with it. Also here are some of my personal favourite pedals that I've played over the years and fallen in love with (Disclaimer: Most of these are already on my pedalboard but I love all of these regardless)
    1. Boss OD-1X (First guitar pedal that I got back in 2013 when I was 14 and it's been on my pedalboard and my main drive sound for the last 10 years, and probably my favourite guitar pedal that I own)
    2. EHX Big Muff Pi (My personal favourite fuzz pedal that I bought back in 2016 because my band at the time was playing a Smashing Pumpkins song and I wanted to have that same effect to be closer to the song, plus I've always loved those pedals because of David Gilmour, Billy Corgan, Jack White and Cliff Burton)
    3. Boss DS-1 (Same deal with OD-1X in that I got my DS-1 at the same time and it's another one of my go-tos when I want that kind of tone)
    4. MXR Phase 90 (Classic phaser used by the likes of Eddie Van Halen and David Gilmour, what more can you say)
    5. Boss CH-1 Super Chorus (My go-to chorus pedal and one of my favourite pedals of all time)
    6. EHX Ram's Head Big Muff (I wanted a smaller fuzz pedal for my board and plus I got into this pedal because of David Gilmour)
    7. Dunlop Cry Baby Wah (Classic wah pedal, and like I said with #4 what else can you say about this pedal that hasn't been already said)
    8. MXR Uni-Vibe (Instant Dark Side of the Moon/Hendrix Machine Gun tones and I love it)
    9. Strymon Lex (I've always loved the sound of a Leslie cabinet after hearing them used by the likes of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin (Plus my one of my college instructors lent an original '70s Hammond B3 organ that he had to my college's recording studio, so seeing a vintage piece of gear in person was incredibly fucking cool) and this is an awesome modern take on that classic effect)
    10. Boss CS-3 (Great compressor pedal and sounds fabulous with clean guitar)
    Honourable Mentions
    - Boss BF-3 (Had that pedal since 2016 and it's been awesome, I've written a bunch of guitar riffs with that pedal and it just sounds great. Definitely one of the best flanger pedals out there)
    - Boss TR-2 (Also a great tremolo pedal)
    - MXR Blue Box (Fool in the Rain is one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs so that was the primary reason why I wanted to get this one, also it's just a killer octave fuzz)
    - Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master (Got turned onto these thanks to Matt and Rabea when they hosted the Sounds Like series on Anderton's and it's an awesome dual delay/reverb pedal)
    - Tone Bender Reissue (Tried this at my local guitar store about a year or so ago and really liked it, I forget the brand but one of the older employees asked if I wanted to try it out and it was absolutely awesome. Definitely see why dudes like Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and The Beatles used them back in the 60s, though it was way too expensive for me lol)
    - Boss ME-25 (Multi-effects board that was actually my first venture into pedals and I used it like crazy over the years, this was also the main pedalboard I used in college because at the time I didn't have access to my regular pedalboard and it was easier to carry onto the subway alongside my guitar when going to band practices)
    - Fender Tone Master Pro (Newer pedal that blew me away when I first tried it, I loved that all the patches were reminiscent of famous guitar players ranging from David Gilmour to Jimi Hendrix, Brian May to Eddie Van Halen and even guys like The Cure and Billy Duffy from The Cult. Super versatile pedal and you can make your own really cool patches as well, which is great)

Nice one Rob. Not got a single one of those pedals but all sounded amazing. Totally agree on the love for EHX and bought the String 9 as soon as it came out and love it to bits. Recently got the Andy Timmons Halo from Keeley and also love it like crazy. Best thing about "Now" is that, when I was starting out it seemed as though it was BOSS or cheap crap. Now even the cheap crap is great (some of the Behringer stuff is well good). Also, thanks for your review of the Harley Benton Tube15 - I bought one the next day (they should pay you a commission lol) and it's brill. Upgraded the spring reverb from 2 to 3 spring and love it as a great home jamming amp and even used it for a few gigs with no problems mic'd up. Not bought one of your guitars yet, but I love the T-Style models you make so will get one in next 12 months defo. Good luck with the business and keep on rocking. The problem is that all of the engines sounded really metallic, low quality, grainy, and frankly inauthentic. Another huge issue is that eventually every footswitch started misfiring and eventually stopped working altogether. It was easily the worst pedal I've ever purchased.

It's not that I love digital pedals more, but the best groundbreaking pedals have been from that side the last 15 years. And I guess I go for more clean into time+space pedals. So I'm thinking, Eventide Space, for pedal Blackhole. Strymon Timeline and Big Sky for kicking pedals up in into the stratosphere in quality, Empress Zoia for putting a modular FX system in a pedal (and then modular FX in a modular with the Euroburo), Eventide H9 / H90 for putting studio Eventide power into a pedal. And most recently Chase Bliss Mood mk.II and Meris LVX and Mercury X. On the analogue front, I think Origin Cali'76 for getting an 1176 sound into a pedal, but also just sounding great. With the other analogue pedals, so many of them are refinements of designs older than 15 years. We'd have been just fine with the original designs. I'm pretty amazed with what MXR got into the Poly Blue Octave too; a booteeq pedal outfit would have charged 350+. My runners up would probably be coming from left of field, weird and wonderful things like Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water. Or pedals from the dark side of the frequency spectrum. Things like Darkglass Hyperluminal or Microtubes, Alpha-O etc ... I feel like some of that forward thinking approach, but with one foot solidly in past good sound, needs to come back into guitar analogue shaping - on the compression / drive / fuzz side of things.

Hey Rob since you mentioned haircuts on the last top ten video I’m gonna put my vote in for the Sweetwater Ruby haircut. lol. The shaved head with the longer beard is the look for you bro.

I miss the BOSS JB-2 angry driver, a BOSS Blues Driver and a JHS Angry Charlie in one Pedal. With lots of switchable combinations of both.
For me the only overdrive pedal you‘ll ever need…
And of course I miss, besides that it is a different kind of pedal, my alltime favourite, the Digitech Trio +
