Not quite yet
For starters: Something is adding noise, I think it's the 19" blank plate
And I'm in the proces of integrating a USB circuit into a Metalzone, so I can use it as Audio interface
This way, I don't have to put a Metal zone in between my Cab Mike and my interface for a better quality signal, though 2 in series might just be even better
Somebody tried to be a smartass and asked me when I'm gonna put a Metalzone into the CPU socket of my PC
..what an idiot!
Everyone knows you can't turn a Metal zone in a CPU
JCM 800? Sure! But not a Metal Zone
@@Nightdare Actually, Metal Zones run fine at the voltages provided by a CPU socket. Plus, you don't need to use a heatsink or fan so your PC will run quieter. I'm not sure if Windows supports Metal Zone architecture so you may need to use a custom Unix build.
Diabolical. ... ... ... ... ... ... I LOVE IT!
Saying Brian of Wampler makes him sound like a knight. 😊
Sir Brian of the Knights of Wah
Icky icky icky fazoot wazoing
Christopher Lewis we are but simple travelers who seek the pedal builder who lives beyond these chords
He is Brian and so is his wife
Sir Wamplerlot
"When I graduated high school in 2000" Holy Sh*t that just made me feel old.
In the moment of year 2000, I was at an oil refinery trying to make sure their 800 computers did not all turn to shit in an instant.
In the mid year 2000 I was a 1 year old baby
I just have to say that I really find myself watching more and more content from this channel and I have realized why; You are genuine. It's something that is growing increasingly difficult to find and I think most people would be surprised that this is not at all a channel where the Owner and Creator constantly shills their own product. You are honest and make killer pedals.
Exactly! I often forget that Josh actually owns a company that sells pedals he designs, and I feel like they are more often than not left out of whatever the episode is about because he’s pushing someone else’s pedals on us lol. Thanks genuine. Maybe it’s that Midwestern thing everyone talks about. Either way Josh is a great guy and I’d love to spend a Sunday afternoon just hanging out, drinking a few beers and jamming. Or watching the home shopping network. Either one would be a great time.
I started watching this channel like a couple days ago and I've already watched so many of their videos. They're one of my favorite guitar channels (I know I know. They're technically pedals but those jams are killer)
I love the way Nick is trying not to laugh when the Miku is being played.
Haha I caught that too
I love the way Nick looks like he wandered off the set of Life Aquatic.
Pahh made Josh sound like he was playing a chicken.
As hilarious as that was, Josh somehow took that stupid novelty pedal and made something musical with it. I think that's the first time I've seen it used where it didn't come off as terrible and out of place. He made it work
@@ideitbawxproductions1880Too each their own, but I thought it still sounded terrible and out of place.
Can we take a second to appreciate how well every single jam on this channel is mixed?
I am constantly surprised at how clever and clean each of their tiny tunes are crafted.
Josh has played real gigs with a band before
@@chronicalcultivation absolutely, but even great musicians need to be mixed properly. :)
No. Stay on task.
yws
Overdrive- Wampler Tumnus Deluxe
Fuzz- JHS Muffeletta
Time- mxr carbon copy
Modulation- tc electronic 3rd dimension
Compression-either keeley compressor or the fender bends
Other-boss ge-7. That is the only guitar pedal that Has stayed on my board since I started playing electric guitar. It’s always been there.
I gotta tell ya, I'm impressed with this guy's creativity. I have 1 guitar, 1 amp, 1 distortion and 1 delay and I still don't know WTF to do with everything. It took forever just to make everything not suck, now I'm afraid to breath on a knob.
Usually cant go wrong with using the amp completely clean then using the pedals to color the tones
That’s where the fun begins!
Try every combination and TWEAK. Thank me later 🎃
Favorite/best record: In Rainbows, Radiohead
Agree
That's correct
yup
Same
Radiohead is the best band ever
Album; Mars Volta "Deloused In The Comatorium"
Nice choice. It's the kind of album music snobs like to sneer at for its pretentious proggy concept but the music rocks harder than almost any other album I've heard.
I can't imagine using any setting other than the "Random" setting on the Miku, pure bliss
*everyone with a Miku Stomp got so lucky.
„I don‘t have this pedal am I gonna survive?“ is the OST to my life. Need that as ringtone!
The craziest part of this is that the DL4 is more than 20 years old.
I saw Bill Frisell live a couple of years ago, and he used it heavily in his set.
Still the best looper ever made
recently dug out mine and started tinkering with it due to recent videos mentioning it
@@llObscurell surely not (check Boomerang, Pigtronix Infinity, the larger EHX and Boss devices ... even the Line6 M9/M13 looper is better). But still a very good one. And still a delay ahead of time in many ways, capable of some sounds that a Strymon Timeline cannot replicate; like, stereo Ping Pong delay, Auto Volume Echo with swell for the dry part of the signal, or Tube Tape delay.
Overdrive: BMW Auto 6-speed
Delay: British Airways - Never on time.
Compressor: Kaeser M27 92 CFM - Noisy as hell.
Modulation: Anderton & Rowland's Waltzer One - complete with screams
Weird: Bottled Farts - complete with 110v ignition set.
Album: 'Circus Money' by Walter Becker.
1. overdrive/distortion: Smallsound/Bigsound Mini
2. fuzz: Wren and Cuff White Elk
3. time: Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude
4. modulation: Lastgasp Art Laboratories Transroom
5. compression: Moog MF Boost (alter-compression for people who don't like compression)
6. other/weird: Montreal Assembly Count To Five
Od/ Distortion - Morning Glory
Fuzz- hoof reaper v2
Modulation - Julia
Time - lucky cat
Weird- tuner
Weird-tuner???? NAILED IT 😂 I don't even put them on my boards
Yessss hoof Reaper is killer
1. OD: Morning Glory V4
2. Fuzz: Beetronics Octahive
3. Time: Mad Prof. Deep Blue Delay
4. Modulation: Jam Pedals WaterFall
5. Comp: Cali 76
6. Other: Keeley Dark Side V2
I like that all these guys, while running their own companies, for the most part, picked pedals they don’t make. I can appreciate the honesty and it makes me want to do business with them.
Favorite record 2000-2020: The Beautiful Letdown / Switchfoot. This album was the inflection point on the musical journey of my youth. It was my stepping stone into rock music and my biggest inspiration to start playing guitar.
1. Fulltone OCD
2. Skreddy Lunar Module
3. Electro-Harmonix DMMTT
4. Neo Instruments Vent
5. Origin Cali76
6. TC Electronic Ditto
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire is my favourite record of the last twenty years.
Favourite Record: We Like It Here - Snarky Puppy
The drummer's looks during the "Miku" section is priceless!!!
Cool to see you guys out here being the very definition of "friendly competition." 2021 is gonna be a good year for pedals!
I honestly feel like the Darkglass B7K should be one of the important pedals of the 21th century. It not only give raise to what is now a giant company but also created a whole new era for bass tone.
Yup
Darkglass literally made any other bass preamp/drive obsolete in my eyes. I've never had a band situation where it didn't make my tone cut right through. Also it isn't based on any existing distortion circuit, its a completely original design
Solid! That's the damn truth, the B7K was a huge game changer
Love my original B7K! Staple for bass pedalboards.
three chilean guys making pedals on a finish basement to get money to eat and pay rent
the story behind the pedal is so epic
Favourite Rock Album of the century: Crack the Skye - Mastodon / Nonagon Infinity - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
Lots of amazing choices!! Really hard to choose favorites, but here's today's list:
1. Overdrive: Earthquaker Devices Monarch. I love FET drives! This one is fantastic!
2. Fuzz: So many good ones to choose from!! I have to say the EQD Hoof Fuzz. Simultaneously classic and modern, with tons of tweakability. At the opposite end of the spectrum is the Dedalo O68 Oscillator octave fuzz. Incredibly versatile and very tweakable! It gets real dirty.
3. Time-based: Red Panda Tensor Tape Delay or Red Panda Particle V2 granular delay. Red Panda 's pedals have some of the cleanest tone out there, and the uniqueness and usefulness of their stuff is impressive! Both are far too diversely functional to describe. Just watch the videos.
4. Comp: Dedalo Gorila bass compressor. Dedalo Effects out of Argentina makes some really great pedals, many of which are a little outside the box!! I'm primarily a bassist. The Gorila is a tastefully colored bass comp with a lot of tweakability. It adds a lot of clarity, and it's great at pretty much every setting!
5. Modulation: Too many good ones to choose from. I'll go with the Walrus Audio Julia Chorus/Vibrato. Clean, crisp, modern-yet-warm chorus with optional vibrato.
6. Weirdo noise pedal: EQD Rainbow Machine and/or Red Panda Raster arpeggiating delay. Technically the Raster is a time-based pedal, yes... But those arpeggios!
Another fun show. I recently upgraded my tv speakers and it’s so nice to hear your jams sounding as they should. You guys get great sounds.
OD: Looking Glass
Fuzz: Hoof Reaper
Time: Black Foutain v3
Modulation: Julia
Weird: Boss SY1
omg the looking glass!!! awesome pedal
@@joaquin8637 I just bought one and I'm blown away. It's such a tasteful drive sound but the eq coming before the circuit so you can boost the circuit if you want and then buffer knob just take it to the next level. It's so versatile.
Modulation: julianna**
@@KuhKronus I agree the julianna is a better pedal but I chose the julia over it because of its impact/influence. I'm excited for the new cheaper options like the ehx eddy.
I think Reverb deserves it's own category... I'd select the Mercury 7.
my favourite record of the last 20 years has to be Tool - Lateralus
It’s easily the best thing they’ve put out in the 21st century.
Excellent utilization of the pedals in show and awesome drum grooves. This is certainly one of my favorite episodes so far. Thanks for what you guys do.
This is easily the best gear related youtube content available...by far. Love the brand and style that Josh and team bring along with extensive knowledge and musicianship. Super funny and informative. Thanks for hours of entertainment and learning!
Can’t think of anything more ubiquitous than the Strymon Timeline and Bigsky combo for time based effects, especially in the P&W world. Still rocking mine.
I use the timeline and blue sky. I almost had bought the big sky but for me it seemed like overkill. Strymon are so clean and great if your running in stereo there is no other choice. My favorite effect of all is just a good amp and your fingers!
Thank you Josh for the constant inspiration, and for keeping us entertained in this strange times.
overdrive/distortion: Free The Tone Gigs Boson
modulation: Boss CE-2 Waza Craft
fuzz: Vemuram Myriad Fuzz
time: MXR Carbon Copy
compressor: Keeley Compressor +
weird: Earthquaker Devices Rainbow Machine
One of the things I love about this channel are the jams! You guys are always jamming out!
Josh, This was my first introduction to Death By Audio. I’d love to see you do a whole episode on their pedals... such a cool company and unusual products. I love it
I don’t have much pedal so these are just out of the ones that I own
Overdrive: Jhs Morning Glory
Fuzz: Jhs Crayon
Time: Fender reflecting pool
Modulation: Jam Ripply fall
Other: Digitech whammy V5
And favourite album is probably In Rainbows
This was indeed a phenomenal show, Josh. You entertained the hell out of me.
That miku pedal sound in the final jam was... amazing!!
Possibly the funnest guitar-based video I've watched this century. Bravo!
Korg Miku Stomp... Nuff said
'Weee ohhhh doooo paaaa!'
I think 'EHX Freeze' is the most used pedal for experimental sounds.
No other channel makes me smile as much as this one :) Great stuff.
Damn what a sound around the 5min mark.
This is insane. (Guitar looks and sound killer)
Great great Guitar playing as well.
The Knowledge , the love for Music, the humor and the playing is what makes this channel outstanding.
Better than almost all the other guitar besed channels.
Please never change anything.
Subscribed !!
I think I need to slightly tweak my 2020 practice routine of messing with my pedal board for 2 hours and practicing for 5 minutes.
this times a million.
1. DRV, 1981 Inventions
2. Muffuletta, JHS
3. Volante, Strymon
4. Waterfall, JAM Pedals
5. Cali 76 Stacked, Origin Effects
6. Enzo, Meris
this channel has opened my ears to so much cool stuff. introduced me to new brands and awesome people who make cool stuff but i've gotta say, it's a tie between jhs and boss on my board. 3 of each. a strymon, a walrus, and my volume pedal.
This was a truly great episode. Clear, informative, concise, funny. Streets ahead of all the waffle out there. The jams were excellent - get a singer and some words and you have instant albums. Thanks!
Drive: JHS Morning Glory
Fuzz: DBA Apocalypse
Comp: Origin Effects Cali76
Mod: OBN Visitor
Time: Bondi Art Van Delay
Weird: Meris Hedra
The Cali76, surely the greatest comp.
Weird pedal fro me is the Mel 9. I had to put a doggy shock collar on it so I didn't use it on everything.
Mel9 is the next pedal I'm buying. Heard some great sounds with it on Acoustic recently that shot it up to the top of my list.
Great pedal, certainly one of the best of the last 20 years. I feel like there should be an expanded version of this list. Maybe2 or 3 more categories and several choices for each. Mel9 would certainly make the cut.
Loved the latter part of Jack Hammer. The tone you got with that Tone Bender fuzz/tape delay combination transported me back to the late '60s psychedelia heyday. Listen to that whilst sitting in a darkened room filled with the scent of joss sticks and watching a lava lamp and you're teleported back to the Fillmore West in 1968.
Great songs and playing from Nick and Josh!
Boss E.Q. Is maybe the best “Push the amp” pedal I have. Opinion of course, but throwing that out there.
That's the way dimebag pushed his amps!
MXR 6 Band is my EQ of choice but you’re right that its extremely useful!
I had more luck pushing amps with an old Boss GE-7 than any drive pedal
Favourite Record of the last 20 years = 'A Deeper Understanding' by The War on Drugs
My favorite record of the last 20 years is, by far, "Everything All The Time" by Band of Horses ..... and thanks for another awesome video ... which of course leaves me wanting/needing several of the pedals mentioned.
OD: EQD Plumes - This OD gives a real refreshing take on the TS and brings a more modern sound. Can't get enough of its sound.
Fuzz: Big Muff Pi w/tone wicker - Not a fuzz that does anything crazy, but does exactly what I want out of a fuzz. I'm no fuzz fanatic, but this fuzz is one I look to turn on whenever I get the chance.
Mod: DigiTech Whammy - Do pitch-shifters count? I'll make them count. This pedal has pushed my creative drive to new heights. It's stupid fun to use in a variety of ways.
Comp: Only ever played the Boss CE-3, so that's my pick sorry guys.
Time: Neunaber Immerse Mk. II - This pedal packs a massive punch from a normal-sized enclosure. It may not have the amount of options as a BigSky, but it does everything a reverb will ever need to do. And the reverbs themselves are so customizable with such a small enclosure and minimal knobs. I could never see a BigSky replacing this on my board.
Weird: Walrus Audio Slo - Haven't played many weird pedals, but the Walrus Slo is definitely a weird pedal to me. The mixture of reverb and modulation can craft some very bizarre sounds that I just love.
out of topic, but your snare sound is pretty cool, I love it
1. Overdrive/Distortion: EarthQuaker Devices Plumes
2. Fuzz: JHS Bender
3. Time: Catalinbread Echorec
4. Modulation: DigiTech Ventura Vibe
5. Compression: MXR Dyna Comp
6. Other/Weird: VOX Wah
Exellent jams guys !! 🙌🏼
Excellent episode
Did not expect Morning Phase. What an amazing album. Literally changed my life.
Same! One of my all-time favorites
Great episode! Intrigued by the death by audio fuzz, which apparently Edge from U2 uses. Anyway, my belated pick for favorite album since 2000 is a toss up between: Kurt Vile 'smoke ring for my halo', Engineers 'engineers', and Kilbey/Kennedy 'glow & fade'. All three have an impeccable flow.
I totally agree with Josh.. the DD20 is my all time favorite delay pedal. I like the sound of Boss Digital delays. It may not be as powerful as the timeline, but it is just right for me
Overdrive/distortion: OCD
Fuzz: Ehx green russian Big Muff reissue
Time: Boss dm2-w
Modulation: JHS 3 series chorus
Compression: Keeley compressor
Other/weird: Miku Stomp
Holysmokes! I forgot about the OCD - it's been huge for so long I thought it was from the 80's or 90's. But you're right - released in early 2000's
Overdrive/Distortion : Earthquaker Devices Talons
Fuzz : Cusack Tap-A-Fuzz
Time : T-Rex Reptile 2
Modulation : Wampler Terraform
Compression : Seymour Duncan Vise Grip
Other/Weird : DigiTech FreqOut
OD: king of tone
fuzz: fuzz war
time: aqua-puss
modulation: the chemist
compression: orange squeezer
other: minibar liquid analyser
Brother bought me the Tumnus Deluxe for xmas. Totally blown away. Has me looking at some other pedals that are just dying to be replaced
What a video. Beautiful
Best record: The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
The Miku pedal is just a Klon for people with ADHD
😂
Anybody wanna build a MiKlon? 😂
PAHH is the sound your butt makes after a night of chili, nachos, and bud light.
Hilarious! That’s why I want one
I didn’t know the Miku pedal existed, but after @Mountain Highs comment, I must own one.
Thanks for recommending Morning Phase by Beck. It has something for everyone. Initial stand out tracks were "Morning" and "Unforgiven" but every song is fantastic. It's in heavy listening rotation and love it more and more every time I listen to it.
Interesting snare drum mic technique! Sounds great!
Overdrive/ Dist:
EQD Plumes
Fuzz:
Keeley Fuzz Bender
Time:
EHX Canyon/ Grand Canyon
Mod:
JHS Emperor V2
Comp:
Walrus Audio Deep Six
Other/ Weird:
Keeley Synth-1
Record: Lightning at the Door by All Them Witches
Fantastic to hear the Korg Miku pedal...I have three of them and play them in parallel...and of course with other effects...great to hear this pedal and not as just a joke!!!...They sound incredible with fuzz/pitch shifters...A fabbo vid!!!
Once again another great video. I am really not qualified to vote, but that hasn’t ever stopped me before. Overdrive/Distortion: I just got a Morning Glory v4, and I have to say it is pretty amazing. That gets my vote. Fuzz: of the few fuzzes that I have tried, I have really liked the Bogner Oxford Fuzz, it is very versatile, from a distortion to a full on dirty feedback monster. It is also a fuzz that doesn’t poop itself when there are pedals before it, which I like. Time: I have a bunch of delay pedals, but I don’t know what one is my favorite. I have a strymon Volante, and it is amazing and versatile, and I think we are putting reverb into that same category, in which case the Cusco Music Resound Reverb is awesome. I’ll go with the Resound Reverb. Modulation: I really like chorus, and my Strymon Ola is pretty sweet. I think that is in the last 20 years. Compression, I have only one compressor, the Keely Compressor Plus, but I don’t like it, but it is all I have. Other, weird, I only have one is the Earthquaker Devices Organizer, is a really cool / weird effect. It is like an octave, but modulates so that you literally sound like an organ.
Last part of this comment, your record time inspired me to pull out Morning Phase and give it a spin myself. Amazing album. Thanks JHS crew.
Pigtronix Mothership for me, never has a guitar pedal so radically changed the way I view an instrument.
Oh, favorite record:
Elephant by The White Stripes
Excellent choice!
Thanks for the DAWES tip JHS team!
1) Tumnus Deluxe - Wampler
2) Ram's Head Big Muff reissue - EHX
3) El Capistan - Strymon
4) The Emperor V2 - JHS
5) Deep Six - Walrus
6) Randy's Revenge - Fairfield Circuitry (this one would also win in the Modulation category, it's just awesome)
----
Record: The Sane Day by Beardfish. Just like Josh's pick, it's not my favorite, that's an impossible task to do, but this is probably the overall most influential record for me, in the past 20 years.
Great episode, cheers!
Best record of past 20 years. .. .The Empyrean, John Frusciante
Albim: Them Crooked Vultures
Nicks “STANK FACE” whe Josh kicks on the tone bender was awesome!
great episode...you got some cool friends Josh
are we just not going to talk about how awesome that BILT guitar is?
I guess it was BILT by professionals...
We demand Nick's Picks (for Pedals of the Century)!
The look on Nick's face while the Miku pedal goes off is priceless.
Omg that Miku Stomp at 20:24! My jaw literally dropped when I heard that, so cool!
Strymon Big Sky - it's an Inspiration machine, and an instrument unto itself. I am blown away every-time I use mine = Game changer.
...I think you may need multiple versions of "Am I Gonna Survive" ...like there could be a more metal version for when you're really irked. ...don't mind me backseat YouTubing over here.
Or a "the post office lost my pedal" track
Morning Phase! I bought that as the label stated it had won a Grammy for engineering. It did not disappoint! The soundstage is huge and deep. I'm gonna put it on right now . . .
Drum tones are f!@#$%g stellar!
OD/Distortion: ZVEX Box of Rock
Fuzz: Champion Leccy the Divvy
Time: Strymon El Capistan

OD: SD-1 Waza
Fuzz: EQD Life Pedal
Time: EHX Memory Man with Hazarai
Modulation: EHX Freeze
Weird: EQD Bit Commander
Love the Life Pedal.
Just bought a used Keeley C4 compressor. Love it. My Fulltone PlimSoul overdrive beats out my very new ZVex Box of Rock for the time being.
Most of my favourite albums weren't released in the last twenty years, but I consulted analytics and the one I seem to listen to the most is "The Dirty Old One Man Band" by Scott H. Biram, so that has become my choice, it was really popular in one particular building in East Van.
1. JHS Crayon
2. Mid-fi Demo Tape Fuzz
3. Boss DD-8
4. Strymon DECO
5. Origin Cali 76
6. EQD Rainbow Machine
Album: IDLES - Joy As An Act Of Resistance
The Deco is hands down the best pedal of the last 20 years
EQD Dispatch Master. That’s why there was one on EVERYONE’s board for about five years.
That Beck album is fantastic! Also love Sea Change. Both are the more acoustic side of Beck. Favourite album of last 20 years. Impossible! But... Kurt Rosenwinkel - The Next Step. What an incredible record.
whoa heavy take bro love the Winkler
