we have also fallen in love with Joshua B.
😮🥰🥰🥰🥰
So are y'all a Oklahoma based company still? I live in Oklahoma so I love supporting local pedal companies
@@gamertanman yep we are in okc.

Can we all please take a moment to appreciate Addison's bass tone throughout this episode. The crook was absolutely killing it!
I noticed it as well. Killer runs, Addison.
It wouldn’t be possible without that Poison Noises pedal ‘The Crook,’ that you clearly aren’t endorsed by.
1000% especially on the last track. No one has done as much as Addison in making me want to get back into bass.
The bass volume reduced on the couple of last episode. They need to rise it back again.
Not the first to discover that what is basically the OCD circuit works well for cleaner sounds, turned down, into smaller wattage combos. At the end of the chain, it can be a solid pre amp, with the FT circuit offering more headroom up to 18v.
BASS!
Josh I have a love/hate relationship with you, I love that you so selflessly promote other companies. I hate you because you make me spend all my money on pedals. I love what you do, please keep doing it, we need more people like you in the world.
The amount of research and attention to detail directed to showcase another company is just not normal. Amazing work as always, very entertaining and inspiring at the same time.
It's Josh's way of putting other pedal companies out of business. Recommend their stuff and watch them be crushed under the demand. One less competitor.
Old Blood is not just super unique creative sounds, but also incredibly well thought out and functional. You know how you have a pedal that's really cool but you wish it had one little tweak? OBNE thought of that already and included it. Like haunt has a clean blend, there are soooo many awesome fuzzes that don't quite work on bass. Also, sunlight is even better than you said here, it's got this great tail- killing feature that's triggered by a gate, it's like ducking but better and should really be standard on every reverb in the world but as far as i know it's unique. Just really great design thinking.
OBNE is one hundred percent the company that inspired us to start Poison Noises.
💪🏼
And jhs inspired you to keep going lol the crook (pun intend) lol
Interesting! I'll keep a look out for your 'verb pedals!
@@LaughingSkull451 new one very soon
Nice to see you guys found josh!
You mean white privileged male Josh who needs to check his privlege
Uncle Em paid for his ransom but it came at a clandestine cost
This was recorded before the live. He's still missing and Emily is still in charge.
@@jhspedals Aw damn, the search continues.
@@jhspedals god help us all.
Old Blood Noise Endeavors is my favorite pedal company. The name and art has always envoked the eldrich, the other, and the weird. The actual pedals take that vibe and let you make it into music.
My personal favorite is the Visitor.
Visitor forever
I just love the way you build the sense of community in the pedal business. And introducing the humans that actually make the noise machines we love builds the appreciation even more.
OBNE has the MAW and not many companies have VOCAL EFFECTS. I use the JHS color box v2 and other pedals for vocal duties. I would love a show on vocal pedals.
would love that too and i am sure nick will be up for it!
+++++ Colour Box v2 on vocals
+1 for vocal pedal effects episode
Starflyer's Talking vs Singing Voice might be the most slept on album of all time, I'm positively shocked and grateful to see anyone giving it some of the love it deserves.
OBNE are also supercool, so are the jams and banter, but we all expected that.
Starflyer are a slept on band in general. Some shoegaze fans know silver and gold, and Americana was featured on a somewhat popular 4chan shoegaze chart, but that's about it. They have an amazing discography throughout, including last year's Vanity, which is their best release since TVVSV
Agree! Also for anyone checking out Starflyer, listen to Leave Here A Stranger. Genius album.
Beautiful homage to OBNE. Stunning jams, as this band gels into a force. Josh: GREAT playing. Totally addicted to this thing. Please don't collapse into a heap of egos. This is WONDERFUL.
I own the Minim and the Signal Blender which CHANGED EVERYTHING: running effects in parallel opens up a complete new way to mix effects!
Iv been looking at the Tri-Parallel Mixer pedal for that mixing effects thing!!
It’s about time!! OBNE makes incredible stuff. The Reflektor is the best chorus pedal I’ve ever played
Yeah but it was at least 2 yrs. ago when Josh covered various reverbs & first introduced me to OBNE Procession reverb pedal that I bought. So not the first time covering OBNE.
With his hands Josh controls the on-off functions of the pedals better than many do with their feet and he doesn't even miss a Beat
Truth
Thanks for giving the artists credit. Cheers. ✌
I love your work.
@@TheAmazingSnarf Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Was cool to see Starflyer 59 during record time. I think my favorite release by them is their Fell in Love at 22 ep. Great stuff!
the OBNE expression ramper is a must have utility pedal, I'm surprised you didn't feature it.
The cinematic scenario was a work of art, your adoring public demands MORE !
OBNE + JHS + Shoot Film Co Minolta tee. What an episode
STARFLYER 59 IS LOVE! So happy to hear them featured. I have a handful of their vinyls but unfortunately not The Fashion Focus. Favorites for me for sure are Gold, Silver, and Americana. Sad Reverb Bois represent.
Great episode as always Josh and crew! Joshua's cameos were fantastic. Jams were on-point as usual too. Addison's bass tones are just *chef's kiss* and I so appreciate Nick's drum beat stylings. Gotta look more into OBNE...
The cat's out of the bag! I know a lot of ambient musicians feel OBNE was their secret weapon, since they're not nearly as well known as EQD
these last few years i just have the money to watch youtube videos on pedals and wait for times i can actually buy some again, but could i just say i have the impression (more a persuasion) that you do these effects justice, Josh? classy chords man!
thanks!!!
The sunlight reverb is phenomenal and if I weren’t so in love with my EQD ghost reverb I would probably replace it. I have almost purchased an OBN petal about a dozen times and eventually I will throw down that cash. For the record, they make a parallel mixer that is priced well below what it is worth in my honest opinion.
Starflyer 59 is my all time favorite band. Thank you for representing them well 🖤
I appreciate the shoutout for the graphic designers and illustrators. Those artists get little attention for hours of work. Well done.
Episodes like this are my meditation.
OBNE is one of my favorite pedal builders! I’m so glad you spent some time talking about them Josh so more people can discover their unique and wildly creative pedals both visually and sonically!
Starflyer 59 Talking Voice v. Singing Voice is an album that, no matter what's going on in my life, makes me feel like all is right with the world. Absolutely stellar album, Jason Martin is a songwriting genius, not to mention an all-around good guy.
i've been following the channel for a while and regularly tune in, but this was this was first time i felt a need to comment because i love OBNE pedals so much. great episode! talk about ben and dwarfcraft devices sometime :)
I stopped by for pedals but stayed for the music. Absolutely mesmerizing!
With Nick and Joshua's cinematic scenario, you're raising the show to another level. I loved it. Keep on bringing us laughs and love ! Thank you for that and making us discovering great pieces of gear (sorry for English, I did my best as a French guy).
Yes, in Oklahoma we have oil, earthquakes, tornados, blizzards, floods, droughts, tiger kings, bison, and sometimes they all happen at the same time.
We once had an earthquake during a snow storm with tornados. A snowquakenado if you will. It's like living in a SyFy movie.
The "Affinity for the Night" jam sounds exactly like Narrow Head's Satisfaction album and I'm here for it.
About time you gave these guys the attention they deserve!
Every time I'm watching one of your videos, I have it in one screen and have Reverb open in the other looking for deals on the pedals you're talking about. Really a great video. Love OBNE. Thanks!
The dark star is a classic.
Very Godspeed you! Black emperor-esque.
Mondegreen got me into playing guitar 15 years after giving up! They have a different place in my heart.
That's awesome!
this rules so hard
You guys are a blessing.
OMG that cinematic intro with the space animation and the 70s synth sounds and the dramatic voice over - it took me right back to the first 5 minutes of "Wizards", Ralph Bakshi's animated epic of the forces of tech vs. the forces of magic. Awesome!!!
Thanks you!!!!
Love all the love for the artists!
Man, these pedals are awesome! The soundscapes are endless. The first couple combos were truly special, loved what you played with those tones! Cheers gents!
Awesome episode! Love seeing you showcase other loved brands!
This channel always brings me joy. Makes me poor though. Never knew there were so many pedals I needed.
Man, you guys have a blast. Great jamming in this episode! Need me some OBNE 😎
I love OBNE pedals -- I have Minim, Sunlight, Fault and Excess, as well as some of their utility pedals. The expression ramper is a clever idea and a lot of fun -- it enhances all (well, many) of your existing pedals.
Love this company. I have a V1 Black Fountain, and it does the coolest doubler ever when you run the delay and mod near the bottom of their range. The Reflector is really cool too.
Love the Daniel Danger art!
Same
I have 7 OBNE pedals. I love ALL of them. Dan Explains it all is why I bought them.
I've got a Sunlight, a Minim, and my favorite, Flat Light flanger. OBNE is awesome!
These pedals just produce next level sounds that I didn’t know I wanted or needed until I heard them. And the jams in this episode were next level as well…very inspired stuff (with the unfortunate exception of the Pluto blues incident). Loved this episode!
Thanks guys... now I need to buy some OBNE pedals. My pedal wish list is getting endless watching this channel!!! LOVE IT.
So cool that you shouted out the artists. Awesome.
The pedals and the jams sounded incredible this video! Please do a mix breakdown of how you guys make these videos sound so good!
I've watched a few episodes. Enjoyed it, especially the insouciance with which Josh responded to hate mail. Who could hate this man? Anyway, my impressions were: "Wow this guy has a lot of the same pedals!", and "How does this guy make a living at this, and afford all the help he obviously has producing these videos?" Tonight I searched the Web for JHS Pedals, wondering: "Does this guy have a pedal company?" (I have yet to see you promote one of your own, but the amp got my attention.)
FYI: I used to design Amps, effects, preamps when I first got started (just after the LM747 became cheap, and National had some low noise op-amps, and analog BBDs were just becoming affordable (the 512-statge ones!!!). JHS has some cool stuff, and I bet it works great. I'm just getting back into attempting to play (now that I have a bit of arthritis). Unfortunately I bought a Fender GTX 100 with a bunch of effects built-in. Unsurprisingly- it has a lot of white noise when the controls are over half (approx.). Wish I'd found this channel first. But, I will not need to play very loud. If I had a RUclips channel, it would be sans-audio, because people can only take so much.
THANKS, JHS.
Starflyer 59 is one of my favorite bands of all time! Criminally unknown and underrated!
This was a thoroughly cool episode guys, I mean in a More Than Standard Issue Cool sense, these pedals all sound so awesome. Really enjoyed the Flat Light, Dweller and Minim sound crazily awesome to me in particular, but hey, they're all really great. Thanks JHS crew for charting another totally inspirational trip into previously unknown soundscapes!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun to work on.
Joshuaaaa, that cinematic thing was great.
I literally never knew the Flat Light did that whammy thing. OBNE just attaches onto my heart. This might be my fave JHS episode.
Thank you!!!!!! It was so much fun. Nick and I want to do more.
Really cool story - this episode connected Old Blood Noise with Brandy Patterson for the artwork on the latest OBNE release of the BL44 Reverse!
Idk why, but the moment Josh raised the Klon and said "this is $8k. That's like 8 cups of coffee" with his deadpan facial expression had me weezing.
OBNE's performance videos that they release on RUclips anytime they put a new pedal out single-handedly got me back into pedals a few years ago. And from there I found you guys! Lol.
Sometimes I hear a Hum influence in certain songs like “An affinity for the night” (15:10 ). I would LOVE to hear a record time on one of Hum’s albums. They really deserve some recognition, especially after the excellent comeback 22 years post ‘Downward is Heavenward’ with 2020’s ‘Inlet’. Which btw, I wouldn’t have known about had it not been for this channel and a reply to a comment I made on another Hum sounding song a few months ago.
Also sounds like latter day Failure which is hilarious because I swear to god there must be some Internet Comment Rule that Failure must be spoken of in the same breath as Hum.
Whatever, I don’t care. Both bands just kick ass.
@@severebash9153 I’ve heard of them but never listened. I’ll check them out. Thanks!
Hum are incredible
@@Tyrannosaurine right?!! They had a huge influence on my development. I’m working on an album right now and I’m finding that they are back as an influence all these years later.
@@michaelsnydermusic got a bandcamp?
So good! Thanks for your input and sharing of knowledge and demonstrating these pedals
thx guys! the jam sessions epitomized perfectly what obne is all about, great job guys!!!
This is awesome! Lots of love for OBNE!
These have been some of my favorite jams you’ve done
I've said this many times, but your guys jams just keep getting better. The rhythm section really grooves.
Wow what a great episode, loved the story intro, loved the pedals, loved the jams.
This is awesome. Great pedals, great that you're pushing another company's pedals--and great songs!
I've been eye-balling the Old Blood Noise pedals for a while, now. I really like the aesthetic, and the noises they bring out are wonderful.
I guess they've moved up on my "want" list thanks to Josh ...
The expression pedal is really cool. It's like invisible hands.
OBNE, Walrus and Keeley are all local to me so getting all of these past and present has been mind blowing. Great pedals, great guys
C side King of Limbs?! Perfect. Everyone was flat out nailing it. 😙👌🏻
Great episode!
They are super nice guys as well. Met them at Nashville NAMM pre-pandemic.
Thank you so much for this episode... Dark Star and Excess on my board makes me smile sadistically. Love me some OBNE.
Amazing video. Maybe the best pedal YT video I’ve seen. Just discovered OBNE today and they’re great. But it’s amazing you’re promoting and highlighting another pedal company. Doing God’s work :) keep it up!
Loved the jam around 30min. with Minim pedal. Just subscribed. :)
JHS is what got me into OBNE. Your video on weird reverbs included OBNE's Procession, which is like a good version of the movie Dune that doesn't exist in pedal form. I couldn't get the tremolo-reverb out of my head, so I bought it, and it's still one of my favorite pedals. Very cool to hear their origin story and more of their incredible (and sometimes bizarre) pedals.
Yes!
really happy to see the fault v2 get some love, such a sick drive
Starflyer/Bon Voyage/Joy Electric have been longtime favorites... I also love OBNE: my favorite is their Rever pedal that was the precursor to the Minim.
Just bought the obne excess, and than this came out. Hell yea!
Thanks for the video and great playing! Kind of want to make an album only using OBNE pedals.
As ever, I am laughing at your remarks, blown away by your multitude of cool jams and appreciative of your informative videos. Thank you.
Jeeezz. The pedal business is so deep bro. Like philosophy and stuff dude!
Soulful episode. Thank you!
Omg. “Give me The Beach Boys…” my life is a lie. Josh, you have changed everything for now I see. Seriously. I have been singing along with that song since I was kid and still to this day thought those were the lyrics. Great video and jams highlighting OBNE. Love their stuff and that you shine light on other pedal designers. Cheers.
yo this episode is on another level!
OBNE Dark Star was the first pedal I ever purchased. I had intensions on it even before I had a guitar. I need Minim as well after seeing that end of line jam. Love watching your stuff. Please keep it up! Very inspirational. PS one day I will have a JHS pedal too.
OBNE so goooooooood 😩
You constantly impress me, Josh. You're a very cool dude, indeed.
Concept album style pedal demo episode - this is the stuff!
Very cool episode. I find it interesting to hear the descriptions from Josh about what the pedal is, and then he plays it and it sounds nothing like I expected from the description. 🙂
Haven’t really played guitar in years because I got a new job that is really intense, alongside having kids. Watching this makes me wanna pick it back up, buy a bunch of these and make some ambient weirdness.
I think I’ve found my favorite reverb ever, in the Sunlight. Wow, that was an incredible sounding jam.
Love this episode! That is a cool pedal line!
I love OBNE. Unique, inspiring & all around great sounding pedals. I wish I could afford them all. I’ve had my eye on the Dweller & Rever for quite some time.
Wow, I had no idea DD designed the art for the Haunt!
An Affinity for the Night sounds like it could be a Bob Mould/Sugar tune.
“False Prophecy” sounds like a damn Duster song and i couldn’t be happier.
Love OBNE. The alpha haunt is so good and the minim is my most fun pedal by a wide margin. You guys crushed it on the jams!
Love OBNE. Josh's comments re the Fault just blew up my pedalboard (my OBNE Dark Star was the only survivor). Need to get the Fault now.
