    Hello!! Crow here. I'm so surprised you guys read my story, I wasn't sure it was good enough but it has stuck with me for years. If you were curious we pronounced penemue as (penny-mew) and yes my sister is the best dm to get you attached to characters ❤

    25:40 Oh man, I learned about low-level parties vs multiattack back in 3.5. The DM threw a bunch of troglodytes at our low-level party, because "they're a CR 1/4 monster, they aren't that tough". He then realized during combat that they have multiattack, and deal, like, 2d4+1d6 damage per round each or something like that, which is insane for a low-level party. We all learned about how brutal and awful multiattack can be, players and DM alike, during that encounter as we nearly had a TPK from it; I don't remember if anyone actually died, it's been at least a decade since it happened, but man, it's still traumatizing to that group to this day.

    1:06:40 Yeah, this is a DM that's trying to use D&D as a way to "help" their friend "push past their boundaries" and "go outside their comfort zone" by doing something that they were explicitly asked not to do. For someone to be told, "Anything that you do to my character or anyone related to them is fine, except for this one specific thing," and then do that one specific thing and calling the person who told them not to do that a baby for being uncomfortable, is the biggest example of not seeing the forest for the trees. They could've done literally anything else to the character to get proof that they could handle traumatizing situations and awful things happening to their character, if they needed to be shown that OP wasn't a coward who shied away from anything too extreme despite saying they could handle anything. To do the one thing the player said they'd be uncomfortable with, when literally every other option was on the table, is such shitty behavior. And it's not even that OP was bothered in the moment by the fact that it happened; it seems more that they're bothered by the fact that the DM went out of their way to do this one thing they were asked not to do. It'd be like the DM advertising a heroic campaign to one player, but actually be running an evil campaign secretly, and then calling the one player who rolled up a good character names for being so dumb to think they were part of a heroic campaign. It's shitty and manipulative and just awful, so good on OP for getting out of there, and good on their friends for leaving that guy's table and banning him from other games.

    Imagine having a problem with someone and rather than talking to them directly you discuss it with everyone in the friendgroup behind their back then gang up on them. Pretty obvious that noone in that group was actually friends with the DM.

    Sometimes I feel "decades of experience" translates to "I played D&D decades ago and haven't grown up since"

    I'm in a dnd group with my friends and overall we don't really take anything too serious in role play but recently I experienced a character death, I was the youngest in the party and I ended up having a brutal death protecting the party from the bbeg. I ended up getting reincarnated from a human into a wood elf so we are all good but it was kind of cool listening to everyone be serious (as much as they can) at the fact that one of us died, the youngest and most optimistic one at that.

    On the topic of long posts (around 58 mins into the episode) Maybe you guys could do an intentional long post episode? Like choose 2 or 3 long posts and have a chat on those ones. Probably not all the time but maybe everyone once in a while? I think that could be fun so you guys could really dig into some of the longer ones. I know I would love to hear some of the long ones :3c

    Oof. Man, that first one. I really don't understand why you wouldn't be honest about the kind of game you want to run. DMs are in high demand anyway, but if you sat and told people: "Hey, I'm a DM with 40+ years experience getting back into the hobby after a long break. I want to run a tough combat heavy game and blah-blah-blah." ... People would've jumped at that.
    Maybe the DM really wanted to do a more RP-focused game, but just fell back into an old habit? I mean that happens sometimes after a break from anything. You want to try something new, but at the first opportunity you're doing things the way you're used to. Still though. That is rough.

    Our Cloggerr, who art in Cloggen,
    Clogger be thy name;
    thy Clogdom come;
    thy will be done;
    on earth as it is in heaven.
    Give us this day our daily Clog.
    And forgive us our Crocs,
    as we forgive those who Croc against us.
    And lead us not into Croctation;
    but deliver us from Crocs.
    For thine is the Clogdom,
    the power and the Clogs,
    for ever and ever.
    Cloggen.

    On the subject of you doing longer stories over shorter stories: Seems like longer ones would be less TikTok clippable. Which, as someone who discovered you on TikTok makes me a little sad. But hopefully you can find a good balance in there.
