@@yomogami4561 If you haven't, check out The Glass Cannon Podcast's Time For Chaos. They're playing Masks of Nyarlathotep. Last year they did Peru and New York. Season two starts next week. They've also done a one-shot (in five parts) with Becca playing.
I just love that twinkle that Becca gets in her eyes when someone fails a sanity roll. 😈 She's definitely one of the most creative Keepers of Arcane Lore that I've seen in watching these live plays.
Yea its like Kyrgios/Federer/Nydal/Djokovic in tennis and she just joined their ranks as one of the best. Now my statement has a glaring flaw, and if you know what it is, then you know what the problem with the OP's statement is.
@@switters8679 ...kyrgios isn't a majors winner like the others? Not sure how it relates to OP, since everyone on that list is top tier (though it could be argued I focused predominantly on dnd Storytellers, over other systems)
OMFG yes another in-person Cthulhu campaign! Becca, your video of The Auction that I watched early this year was what got me into Call of Cthulhu (and the entire Mythos by H.P. Lovecraft). I'm glad you're doing another one of these!
I've definitely found my favorite new GM. You do a great job, Becca! I think it's safe to say we prefer the in-person sessions. Hope to see more Call of Cthulhu
I loved this!! Great job everyone and well done to Becca for absolutely slaying the keeper role like she always does. Keeps me coming back every time 🥰
Really liked this, especially thought Persephone and Trisha put a lot into this adventure. I've found when running Call of Cthulhu that it doesn't always appeal to everyone but those two really got into character. Thumbs up.
Ran it last night. It's a great starter adventure, however I did add an extra challenge. Instead of Merriweather having the sarcophagus and book with him in the hospital (which I found a bit odd), the investigators got a small box with a very big strange key. They were told it was the key to his safe in his office in his home. Now the investigators had to charm/persuade/fast talk/intimidate the widow and son to get their way into the house, and search for the safe. It did add about 1h5 extra play time, but the challenge gave the players time to get to know their characters a lot better, and give the players who didn't know each other more bonding time before the main event.
A cool detail about the PC François (as pronounced "Franswa") is she has a specifically male-gendered name (the last syllable specifies gender). If François is her birth firstname, she was assigned a man's name at birth. (The female-gendered name Françoise would have otherwise been pronounced "Franswaz" because of the last syllable specifying gender.)
That was very very fun! Thank you so much for doing that. Its very interesting looking at those adventures and looking at how different each group behaves. My group had a different experience from you all. Also those dice rolls were brutal lol
I've never seen Trish actually play before. I'm used to seeing her interview TDR cast. She's so good! Pleasant surprise. This turned out to be a really fun watch
So cool! I was thinking of starting a call of cthulhu campaign/game sessions before, but the auction video was what really made me say let's do it. The calyx sessions from then on were very helpful for me as a new keeper.
This was so fun! Thank you so much. Exceptional role playing!! (Didn't get to finish this campaign with my group, so great to see it played and played so well)
@@Bovrillor Edge of Darkness is included in Chaosium's CoC 7th ed. starter set. Also the quickstart rules, two other adventures, a solo (no keeper required) adventure, and some dice. Pretty good deal.
That was so good! consider yourself followed. Having read through the campaign, and watched you play this as Keiko and now run the session, I can appreciate all the extra flourishes you've added. Keep it up!
I ran this adventure 15-20 years ago! Amazing its still relevant. My group of investigators killed the hobo (Red Jake) who then came back as a zombie during the ceremoy. It was a very intense adventure; players screaming and freaking out - good times :-D This was a very nice playthrough, great job by Becca!
As someone new to D&D, your Call of Cthulhu was what made me follow your channel and I'm excited to see more of it! Edit: Just finished this and that was so fun! The players are wonderful as well!

I'm so glad you did this! I'm running this with my investigators as their second case. I'm baffled by the note "Don't visit Boston", what am I missing?
That background music is fantastic, share it out? That set is really fun too. This is such a great scenario. Nice job Becca on great narration and pacing. One suggestion - prep a backup character or two & don't be afraid to kill PCs. The fear of death really ads to the tension & it makes the story even more interesting.
Check the description for a link to the audio source, though I don't know which particular tracks were used. Becca is trying to be more murderous but it's hard when players are friends. She seems quite happy to destroy Jake week after week in board games though.. Hmm.
Just getting started on this. But I adore you as GM Becca, and the cast has performed with excellence so far (happy to see alex whom I appreciate from LAbN and the newly started NYbN chronicles) . Im definitly following this one till the end 😀👌
Great 1-shot. Thanks for posting. Love Becca, GMing or playing. The lanterns lighting was a nice touch, as is the intensity sensory descriptions. Nice work, Becca! One question? What is a “bolt-action-shotgun”? Is that a custom Call of Cthulhu weapon? 😂😂😂
Bolt-action shotguns are not all that common, but they work just like bolt-action rifles. The bolt is a rod attached to a spring, and there's a handle sticking out of it. To load a bolt-action, the shooter twists the bolt handle up and then pulls it back. This both exposes the chamber and cocks the firing mechanism. So basicly a rifle with shotgun ammo
I was gonna comment as soon as the video came out, but it came out in the middle of the night so I fell asleep right after watching it, but Alexander's character's name is a reference to Ari Aster, right? Director of Hereditary and Midsommar. Great game btw, Becca is an amazing keeper and every player was a great addition
It's great isn't it? The stodgy stuff that adds detail to the game is all shunted into the character creation portion so when you're actually playing, you get to just.. play, rather than being mired in edge case rules judgments and endless die rolling and modifiers everywhere. Also, player characters not being powerful heroes adds a lot of tension & risk I think.
I never played any Call of Cthulhu, can anyone tell me if that many failed rolls is par for the course in this system or are our friends here very unlucky?
It's the chaosium system. Failed rolls are common early on. But as players progress it gets better as their skills tip over the 50% mark. Provided they dont die go insane or become devoured before that... which is more than likely. 😉
It depends on the characters' skills and which they need to use in order to get out of any given situation. Characters are just normal people so they commonly aren't great at combat or picking locks or stuff like that & running away from a dangerous situation is perfectly acceptable. There was also quite a lot of bad luck here though, but that's why there's a luck stat that players can spend to help them along.. until having no luck left gets them killed.
Damn those dice rolls! xD 100%, 98% and 96%... I don't even play the game but I am laughing out loud...xD What a disaster...! Good thing Françoise is there to help... xD
