That penultimate one. I have something similer. I have Devil sight on my charecter, (explained by being born blind, and her sight being given to her in a time of need by her Goddess) However my DM Runs devilsight as just darkvision, the reason being, so he can use enemies with the Gloomstalker abiliy that lets them hide in dim or darkness from creatures that rely on darkvision. This came up as at one point we were dealing with said enemy, and no one could see him or understand how he was moving unseen. This only came up in the other campaign the same DM runs, when I took the same ability because I was playing the watchful sniper type that grewup in dank and dark. (aka the mommy of the group) And when I pointed out that in a situation my charecter could see x thing perfectly fine, DM pointed out he doesnt run Devil sight that way and thts when it clicked as to why my first charecter couldnt see the target. We discussed it, and he just flat out refuses to run it as intended and I *know* it because he intends to have creatures be able to hide in dim/darkness to run rings around us. He's also moved a bunch of spellls up spell lvls, things like, Featherfall, disguise self, comprehend languages, identify, and a whole bunch of others, some to lvl 2 spells, others as high as 4th lvl, Featherfall is now a 3rd lvl spell, and no one is taking it. His reasoning, Magic is very rare in this world so those would be overpowered for 'tricking' npcs... also magic items just flat out don't exist or are so rare their practically ledgend, so things like mithril armor doen't exist. I bring this up as ALL 4 PC's have dumped strength, (none above a -1) And he's brought in some new metals/armour... 1 metal, gives a +2 to AC, +2 damage requiers a str of 16 to even use or suffer dis on everything and no spell casting at all even if proficient. I worked it out and a full plate wearer wearing this would be at 24AC with a shield, all non magical items. Another metal is supposed to be 'super light' but still has the same restrictions...so its just a shiny ass metal. But the real problem metal is something called petricite, this stuff kills ALL magic, even pact weapon summoning, paladin aura's 5 elements monks bonus damage, Hexblade warlocks ability to use CHA for attacks, Blade singer wizards ability to use Int...EVERYTHING within 20 feet. And we have to goto a city that has this stuff in the raods/walls/rooves/clothes etc, and is so heavily protected no one outside the city has ever gotten any, and if they did, they get hunted down. Oh, My chars a Hexblade, we have a Bard, we have a Bladesinger wizard AND a 4 elements monk. And the DM sounded surprised we decided NOT to goto the city that will shut down all out charecters, prob mine the ahrdest as she wont be able to do anything because her dex and str are -1 and 1. Now don't get me wrong, I do trust him, but I don't think that city is gonna be as fun as he thinks it will be as we won't be able to do anything. Oh, and this metal also makes loud rining noise when your within 30 feet of it if your a magic user/have a magic item. But it's ok, we have an NPC that can *cloak* us when we go into the city...
Oh hey that was my tiktok about trying other game systems haha cheers for watching. I heard Friends at the Table playing Dungeon World before I learned D&D so maybe that’s why I’m not totally married to D&D. I’m currently trying to get my game group to switch to DW for a one shot that I can run. But yeah I think when people twist 5E with home brew rules for things that other game systems do well is when I roll my eyes. Like if you wanna do post apocalyptic stuff, try Apocalypse World. If you wanna do a heist story, try Blades in the Dark. You can even sometimes swap over to these systems to do a side mission then hop back to D&D for your core story.
yall ive been watching you on tiktok for a minute and recently transitioned to just watching the youtube videos instead. You have no idea how much i appreciate yalls energy you bring to the dnd community and i can only hope to replicate the vibes with my own campaigns.
Sadly my throat is a bit unwell, so today I'm just having a cuppa with some honey atm, and have a small turkey sandwich in the fridge waiting for when my stomach can behave. Time for more podblast!
"Tolkien probably never played DND" made me smile. The Tolkien estate threatened DnD with legal issues over using hobbits, DnD started out as playing your own lotr adventures, with a filter :D
Haven’t heard mook in forever 😭 I’m pretty sure the word by definition is fine but it was thrown around as a big insult in high school as far as slang.
Funnily enough, I did do my very first testrun as a GM with a prewritten scenario. Took my equally new players all of ten minutes to come up with a solution not outlined in the scenario. So much for that.
On the thieving one i think id just allow it to go on without a roll or maybe a roll to see how much they could get without getting caught. If theyre just doing it to get their character's criminal vibe across and it isnt anything terribly big or important being stolen then id let it ride just like id let a performer make some extra coin by playing in an inn. Cause it would be weird for a life long pickpocket to just stop that the second they become an adventurer ay? Basically only have rolls for concequences when concequences would be interesting.
Regarding opinion 10; I am pretty big on planning but i still enjoy small shenanigans like this im between major arcs and encounters. Sure sometimes players might take it too far but honestly as long as everyone feels pretty good about how the game is going I feel perfectly fine shoving story arcs down the road, or letting a story arc that theyve willfully ignored continue on its path without the heroes, (often into ruin). Just my two cents tho
For the unpopular opinion 12 one, riddles and puzzles, something i want to experiment (new DM) is if there is a high int character giving them hints privately equal to their modifier. I see a problem with how it makes the puzzles and riddles boring for other players but was wondering if there were any opinions on this. Also I think testing players rather than characters is a good thing sometimes
Dispel magic and remove curse both require a minimum 3rd level spell slot and you already have to roll for dispel magic if the magic is a higher level then 3 if you don't want to burn a higher level spell slot. Detect magic just tells you if there is something magic within 30ft and what school of magic it belongs too. Identify is a great spell but it mainly gives players context to the world and items they find which as a DM I appreciate lol. Many of the more powerful curses state that they cannot be broken or removed without a wish spell so remove curse exists primarily for breaking attument to weaker cursed items. I just don't see a need to make it harder on players when they are already spending a resource
47:57 yeah, disagree with this opinion! You should focus on telling a story you want to tell! If that's a module that piqued your interest, cool! But for me, I recently DMed for the first time and I only did that because I had an fun idea for a 3 session campaign. So I homebrewed a lot of it! To make it easier on myself, I set it in a world I'm very familiar with (CR's exandria). I used the Stilben map and some of the named places on that map. But all the NPC's and the plot were my invention. For me, as someone who's already fairly knowledgeable about the rules, it felt easier than running a module. Because, I could make things up on the fly without worrying about contradicting something from a book I forgot about or hadn't got to yet.
Ive tried other systems, like Age of Sigmar roleplay fantasy, but find myself homebrewing for DnD the most. I think its because the overwhelming majority of dnd terms and abilities are setting agnostic, whereas i really enjoy Sigmar, but their magic system/spells etc are heavily tied to their pantheon and canon lore, which makes it less flexible to make 'my own' personally
if margaret gets into silver shed be able to play wtih jack, however if she makes her way into bronze 2 she will still be restricted from queue because of how vals ranked system works :(
While true enough, PF2 is also SOOOOOO different from 5E, but not so much that it's as hard to learn as people want it to be. I find that when people are complaining about PF2 being hard, they either aren't really interested in learning new systems and/or just want to complain because that seems to be what we do nowadays, complain to no end about things!
Not a valiant player but I use to play I lot of halo3 hardly anybody had voice chat and I even had a team member that killed me just to get the energy sword even though I told them that I was strong with the sword as evidence of this I got 2 kills with the sword while he was trying to kill me and one of the other team was on me I got the first with out being seen might have got the second if I didn't have a nosiy imp trying to kill me

Just stumbled into this after 2 days of only DnD information. I love y'all's voices and opinions! Wonderful to hear a softer approach.
This is really wonderful to hear, thank you. You've got this! You're going to love D&D 🖤💜
To my knowledge, mook is slang for a minion primarily used by the mafia in New York, USA during the early 1900s
Haven’t heard mook in forever 😭 I’m pretty sure the word by definition is fine but it was thrown around as a big insult in high school as far as slang.
Me, an Italian Jew, cackling when you guys got stuck on mook lmao 🤣🤣🤣
Funnily enough, I did do my very first testrun as a GM with a prewritten scenario. Took my equally new players all of ten minutes to come up with a solution not outlined in the scenario. So much for that.
I really struggle learning new systems , but so far it has been worth it .

Though like you said it has to be testing the players knowledge of the world or systems, not irl stuff nah nah nah

Hello! it is once again time for my enrichment time in my enclosure!
You and me both

I actually made a Joker "wanna know how I got these scars" TikTok but DnD based. Personally I thought it was very good 😝
Another great episode!
Would Bully like a cave bed? It is a dog bed with a built in flap so he can kind of put himself under the cover.
Omg looked them up and he would LOVE them hahaha
Having some leftover enchiladas and chips (crisps) 🥰
I'm eating potato wedges, baked beans and fish fingers.
YUMMMMMMM

If it means anything Margaret. PF2E plays so similar to 5E. The only big hurdle is character creation. There’s a lot more customization involved.
While true enough, PF2 is also SOOOOOO different from 5E, but not so much that it's as hard to learn as people want it to be. Sorry Lundi Gras/Mardi Gras/Carnival kept me from the normal watch immediately after its been uploaded. I'll take any punishment the Entity deems fit
