Paul Eastham Hi Paul, thank you! Yes they are both wonderful synths. I have chosen the P12 before the PRO2 came out, but i think I would still go with it. I am a P12 guy :-} I think you can't be wrong with Daves Synths! About 10-15 people have sent me mails after seeing my videos and buying a P12 and not one made a bad choice, they all love their P12, me too.
I love the types of sounds you produce. None of the P12 presets come close to this beauty. Do have any suggestions on how I can learn to program as you do. Any tutorials, books, etc. I want to learn. Thanks very much.
FDWhitehurst Hi FDWhitehurst, first of all thank you very much. The way i learned it, and still learnin is the old way, i was reading every mag reading every book, but most important try on your synth what you learned and experiment with it. To start the easy way-->search in youtube for synthesis and you will find 4-5 1 hour videos about analog and digital synthesis, then try it on your synth, the best way is an easy synth like the Roland Gaia. Hope you enjoy your way!
In the opening minute or so, you can hear what sounds like MP3 compression type artifact as the breathy pad fades. Is that youtube compression creating the artifact or the synth itself? I'm listening in 720p which I had heard has the best audio quality which is why I ask.

Really Really Nice. I have a P12 and some other synths in the studio. I'm debating on some Strymon Pedals (specifically Big Sky, El Capistan or Timeline and Deco). What are your thoughts on Strymon vs. some other pedals or ITB plug-ins?
Hi M Busch-thank you! I have the first 3 in your list and they are really really good and i love my pigtronix echolution 2. In the end it is all about what you are happy with. The best i can tell you is, to try them out, mix them together and what inspires you is the best for you. i did it that way and i am happy with it, i think you can feel it in the video, i was inspired by the P12 and the boxes.
Hello from Tokyo. I love what you have done here. The P12 sounds great. We are waiting for the new Prophet 6 to come out as an option. We had a P8 and didn't really hook with it. So awesome , sounds incredible. Thanks for posting. Do you know how to create raw sounds w/out the presets? For example, creating double oscillator saw waves style pluck.
Hi DJRex, what you mean with the "pedals" and what "stompboxes". I read a lot of comments and that shows me, that you are a real proffessional. I´m just an amateur in synt. I try to get some information about the substractive synthese, waves, oszillators . LFO ´s aso. but as I said, I just scratch on surface, and I use maybe 20% from the power of the P12. when I have a further question, can you help me? Thanks a lot, take care charly
Hi charly! i can try, send me your question and we will see what we can do. what i mean with pedals or stompboxes is, these are the grey, blue and red machines behind the P12 in my video, they are built for guitarist to put on the floor and stomp on to power them or take them out of the sound but you can also use them like i did for synths. And with synthesis do not start from the professor side, subtractive synthesis means that your oscillators make a sound and then you take something out of the sound with filters etc. try to play with it like a child try each part and hear what it does with the sound, after that learning is much easier.
Hi Rex, thanks for your quick answer. Yes you are right, I try to find some material in the internet, and as you said, its more physic. I google some stompboxes and I found, that are wooden "pedals" you stomp on, to make a sound like a bass drum? So I was confused. But there is a second meaning, some effect pedals for guitar, make more sense to connect to P12. Never tried to connect my Boss stompbox to P12. Maybe I should try. But now my question: Why affects the OSC 2 osc 1, slave and master, and 3 effects 2 ?? Why so complicated? That means I have to make the changes in sound in OSC 2 and then effect the OSC 1. I´m confused, could never understand. Thanks for the help. Hope the answer is not to physikal. by charly
Running one delay into another along with a reverb into another can create an ambient pad on its own. Then shaping with the P12 just expands the universe almost like 300mgs of LSD. Well, maybe 200 mgs.
yes i like that, and the p12 inspires me. would be cheaper if yamaha psrs would do that but that is how it goes! should sell all my machines and buy a truckload of fx-pedals!!
I liked the P8 but fell in love with the P12. I would prefer the P6 or OB6 over the P8. But as i often say, personal taste is also very important, but Dave is building synths you can fall in love with.Would also buy the tempest but since the price went up more than 25% i find it to expensive. I know the P8 is a different price now, have not tested the Rev2 yet. All the best!
Is it possible to use midi output of the prophet 12 to send program change data to your time line and big sky? If it is possible how do you do it? Sounds great by the way.
Mhm. Thx for answer. They say its semi-weighted. I just dont want these super light cheap flat keys. I dont expect piano keys but just some little amount of weight. Ok i know nords keys and they are very nice.
Dominik Wujek See it is not the keyboard why i had to get it back, its the synth itself and its sound and possabilities. On the NL3 and G2 i play smoother and more direct, the rotary encoders are great, you always see where the env or lfo stays but clavia threw the best joice away on the Nord wave and NL4 they went a step back for cost reasons, with the rotaries from the NL3 i would have bought both.
how integral are the delay and timeline pedals for what I'm hearing in the pads? I think adding a strymon deco to a setup like this would sound cool. I want to make massive, mind blowing pad patches with a lot of really interesting texture to them.
@@lab-by-the-sea so interesting to read my comment from 5 yrs ago. Now I've got a Rev2 and a fantastic jumble of pedals that i REALLY like. And i agree!
Hi maxismax1, yes i can - in that video it was the Big Sky and Timeline from strymon the Hall of Fame and FlashbackX4 from TC and The Echolution 2 from Pigtronix!

Hi Eric, thank you so much! The P12 is one of my favourite synths, even without any fx. With a synth like that you have so many possibilities, with fx even more. For me it is not one against the other, it is more what do you like/enjoy.
DJRexParis You know pads like this one I'am trying to create lot of time, and I'am just shocked how deep this monster synth can go...can I'ask you in the future may by to send me some chords from that pad ? For my track ? It may by great Idea...I'am electronic music artist...

Hi Tip Top, thanks for stopping by and for your comment. As with everything in life you are right and wrong. If you want the pure sound right but at times i think life is to short to use a synth without the fx you love. In the moment it was exactly what i felt. Let your feelings flow. All the best and make the music, sounds and fx you love!!!
Hi c! That is not the question, if something works with you that is the best, d10 is a little d50 - one of my favourite synths from the 80s. Made a lot of sounds with it and loved it. Use what gives you a good feeling!
DJRexParis LOL. Have you seen/heard the DSI Pro 2? It's 4 note paraphonic and can take audio inputs, has an incredible sequencer, a perfect companion or cheaper alternative to a Prophet 12? :)
astrophonix Saw some videos, but had not yet a chance to get my hands on one.More a companion i think, the P2 will not be much cheaper than my P12 was back then :)
im just trying to learn how to be able to create sessions like this. i have a prophet 6, moog sub 37 and tempest and i want the, to work together in a session. sending midi cycles through one or both synths and create rythm with the drum machine
Hi Greg nice combination with p6, s37 and tempest! I use many different workflows, still on the search for the one and only i maybe never find. I have an analogmixer and 2 digitalmixer, sometimes i mix inside a daw. I use a lot of fx because i love to experiment with them. Sometimes i use 20 synths together only with midi like in the 80s or i use only one to challenge myself. I like mixer with a lot of grouping functions, but many people find them very confusing. I think you could start with a recordingdevice a daw or a multitrackrecorder or a looper.
Really good. It's nice to see somebody playing to the synths strengths rather than whining about it not being a Prophet 5. Is the P12 in split mode here? That flutey sound is wonderful.
...my thoughts were fading away, my mind was swimming to other spheres, i lost the control of my body, i was taken away from 3 guys dressed in white. now i am sitting in a strange device but i dont care, cause i lost my self. does anybody knows what date is it, and where we are , if we are and if it is?
It's totally worth it, It's probably my favorite pedal especially since it has a cab filter, which means you can plug directly into a mixer and it sounds like a 1x12 cabinet. I've actually sold my amps and only use that now.
Jesus christ.. *goosebumps* This is bloody beautiful.. stunning landscapes!

how integral are the delay and timeline pedals for what I'm hearing in the pads? I think adding a strymon deco to a setup like this would sound cool. I want to make massive, mind blowing pad patches with a lot of really interesting texture to them.
i am a big lover of pedals and fx in general, they are like clothes
@@lab-by-the-sea so interesting to read my comment from 5 yrs ago. Now I've got a Rev2 and a fantastic jumble of pedals that i REALLY like.
And i agree!
@@blackburn1111 That is like timetravel ;-)
@@blackburn1111 The Rev2 is a great synth too! I hope you have a lot of fun with it and your pedals!
very nice, thanks for the vid
Sandy Grungerson Hi Sandy! Thank you so much.
Can you name all the stopboxes on the table please? :)
Hi maxismax1, yes i can - in that video it was the Big Sky and Timeline from strymon the Hall of Fame and FlashbackX4 from TC and The Echolution 2 from Pigtronix!
This is _veeery_ well done. Makes it easier to think getting a Prophet Rev2 is a good idea.
Edit: Crap. I just bought a Big Sky. XD
i will come over for a jam session!
Anyway great sounds and sounds like Pandora material ☺, keep up the great work
schreibs schreiber Hi schreibs schreiber, thank you for your inspiring words!
Looks like you have a big sky controller
Have you sent your stuff to Pandora? I’ve heard it’s hard to get Pandora to play or listen to your stuff 😏
what's the reverb used in here? tnx :)
Ramteen Hi Ramteen! It was strymon bigsky and tce hof!
DJRexParis oh I see, thanks :)
That was awesome! I wish therd were more demos of the actual synth, rather than, you know, a handful of its patches! Thanks for the effort, youve got talent. How would rate the prophets sounds and functionality by its self, no extra effects?
Hi Eric, thank you so much! The P12 is one of my favourite synths, even without any fx. With a synth like that you have so many possibilities, with fx even more. For me it is not one against the other, it is more what do you like/enjoy.
what pedal chain is actually activated here? is it just the Tc electronic delay pedal?
Hi Anthony it was that chain: timeline --> big sky --> FlashbackX4 --> hof --> echolution
Mind blowing my friend
Thank you Alejandro!
Fantastic Pad
Thank you Albert Frechtman!
DJRexParis You know pads like this one I'am trying to create lot of time, and I'am just shocked how deep this monster synth can go...can I'ask you in the future may by to send me some chords from that pad ? For my track ? It may by great Idea...I'am electronic music artist...
Albert Frechtman www.soundcloud.com/albertos_music
amazing!
Thank you Ammer!
Mega Piranha V's Mega Pad , Pad wins.
Holy shit I want the lot. Love that Beat that comes in. is that all the Prophet? just on a long sequence or something? and That Big sky would sound ace with my guitar too.
The Drums are sampled synths
what are these boxes!
Hi Jason, the fx-chain was: timeline --> big sky --> FlashbackX4 --> hof --> echolution
wow, beautiful
Thank you so much!
Superb.
Thank you f00b!!
DJRexParis This video convinced me to buy one!
f00b!!
Hi f00b!! good to hear that you love the P12 too, the P12 is a lovely synth! Let me know about your experiences when you got into it or if you did a video too ;-)
f00b!! Thank you!
nice sound but for me a little bit too much fx on the p12
Hi Tip Top, thanks for stopping by and for your comment. As with everything in life you are right and wrong. If you want the pure sound right but at times i think life is to short to use a synth without the fx you love. In the moment it was exactly what i felt. Let your feelings flow. All the best and make the music, sounds and fx you love!!!
What are the boxes?
In terms of make and model? Thx!
@@robtriton it was that chain: timeline --> big sky --> FlashbackX4 --> hof --> echolution 2 deluxe
@@lab-by-the-sea Thank you!!
you made all of these sounds with the prophet? this is cool buddy :)
Thank you!
you can pull a d10 through those strymons and it would sound like a prophet 12
Well, need to agree anyway nice gear mate.
Hi c! That is not the question, if something works with you that is the best, d10 is a little d50 - one of my favourite synths from the 80s. Made a lot of sounds with it and loved it. Use what gives you a good feeling!
Thanks!
smooth !
sounds allot like something Koda would make! :)
thanks Daniel for your input, i am sorry i did not hear of Koda before your post, do you have any favourite titles from Koda i should listen too?
Yeah, totally! 'The Last Stand', and 'Hands' both are kinda similar to this peice!
So all this noise and background noise are from the prophet 6?
Ok sorry prophet 12 had to get a closer view of the board
Whats all the spacy background noise coming from
Kind of sounds like something off the movie Solaris with George clooney
schreibs schreiber Hi again! Have to see the film!
So its coming from big sky?
Beautiful. Is that a PPG in the background?
Thank you astrophonix! Yes but only a photo!!
DJRexParis
LOL. Have you seen/heard the DSI Pro 2? It's 4 note paraphonic and can take audio inputs, has an incredible sequencer, a perfect companion or cheaper alternative to a Prophet 12? :)
astrophonix
Saw some videos, but had not yet a chance to get my hands on one.More a companion i think, the P2 will not be much cheaper than my P12 was back then :)
oo a strong but passing shine on vibe at 2:20
Which mixer are u using
Hi Greg, do you mean in the video or in general?
im just trying to learn how to be able to create sessions like this. i have a prophet 6, moog sub 37 and tempest and i want the, to work together in a session. sending midi cycles through one or both synths and create rythm with the drum machine
Is this one of your own patches or a factory ?
Hi Cynon66, used a factorypatch as a starting point and changed it a lot.
Really good. It's nice to see somebody playing to the synths strengths rather than whining about it not being a Prophet 5.
Is the P12 in split mode here?
That flutey sound is wonderful.
No, Multitrackrecording
awesome stuff! Are all of these stompboxes used as inserts, or some are actually used as sends on your mixer ?
Thank you! From time to time yes, but here they were chained and multitracked.
nice, has blade runner vibe
Michael Bauers Hi Michael, thank you! I did not have Vangelis in my mind when i made it, but for sure not a bad company!
YESSSSSSSS :)
Absoolutely! :)
...my thoughts were fading away, my mind was swimming to other spheres, i lost the control of my body, i was taken away from 3 guys dressed in white.
now i am sitting in a strange device but i dont care, cause i lost my self. does anybody knows what date is it, and where we are , if we are and if it is?
awesome!
Peter Maier """now i am sitting in a strange device but i dont care""" -- it's a Sybian.
fallen into spiritual spheres - l
Thanks Peter! I see it worked for you too!
Big Sky. 480 for a stomp box. Wow, that's pricey.
It's totally worth it, It's probably my favorite pedal especially since it has a cab filter, which means you can plug directly into a mixer and it sounds like a 1x12 cabinet. I've actually sold my amps and only use that now.
Yes not the cheapest, but you either love it so much (that s me) or you have to much money!
yes you are right i would buy it again.
I sold a lot of my stompboxes to get this.
The Hall of Fame is a "stomp box." The BigSky is a studio quality multi-effects processor of magic and wonder that's in a class of its own!
I don't like random ambient music. This is better
frign awzum
+Grabiato Nehrimzer Thanks Grabiato!
Some "amateor" made music like this, and i have to hear everywhere on the radio "Stiamo rompendo la discoteca!!!". for this i hate the world.
strymon timeline
strymon bigsky
tc electronic flashback
tc electronic hall of fame
thanks junker, the fx-chain was: timeline --> big sky --> FlashbackX4 --> hof --> echolution
Ambient is such a waste for such a great keyboard! Insert generic soft synth pad here, connect to good delay plugin, same exact sound omg!!!!
Jimmy Jacksonian hi Jimmy - thanks for your input- but why limiting yourself?
