I put this on to check the sound of the Prophet 12. Got lost in the Bigsky, started browsing the web while listening, and 12 minutes later I realized how calm and relaxed I was. Incredible sound here man.
I recently used this an entrance music to a piece of theatre that I performed in. It set the mood in such a tremendous way, the ethereal, transcendent nature of the notes intertwining with one another, the way they collide and sore in a chilling but somehow beautiful manner. These whole 17 minutes are beyond beauty, they have managed to tap into some otherworldly, eternal feeling that I can't fathom, it's truly one of the greatest sounds I have ever heard on this planet. It's life's enduring eternal echo in a vast landscape of perpetual incompressibility, and awe. Thank you for this x
Wonderful. This is how I want to hear a synth demo'd, not an hour waffling on about the character of the oscillators blah blah. Through it through some glorious reverb and pander to my Vangelis gland.
Daniel Davis I enjoy your opinions on the p12 forum Daniel if you are the same person - a factor in me ordering a p12 along with this video - getting one next week
I'm selling my tools and will turn the shop into a studio for music and writing for my last incarnation. Maybe some art. Will be getting the P12, maybe P Rev 2 16 voice. The idea being one form to inspire the others. Peace please.
I’ve mainly stuck to monosynths because I’m just not a particular good keys player. Bass lines and knob tweaking! But I’ve always been drawn to this synth, sounds epic…
Using the black keys ha! I have my own keys that I use to play drones. But since I learned by ear, I can't tell you what they are. My first polysynth was a Prophet 600. I came very close to getting the Prophet 12, but after playing a PPG a couple decades ago, I became a born again digital guy. I bought the Yamaha Montage instead of the Prophet 12 because of the FM-X engine and the sophisticated synthesis options. I really wanted to put some money in Dave Smith's pocket for giving me my first polyphonic synthesizer experience, but damn! I have to think about my self too! My next purchase will be the Big Sky, I think it will be great with my Gibson ES-175.
Agree with you Tor. I think we live in a world where younger people grew up programming with a mouse, and the organic connection to a hard synth, especially one as powerful as this, is something many do not easily grasp.
+chieftp Yeah, but so few knobs, you know? I have other synths I have to menu dive on. I was looking for sufficient knobs to almost eliminate menu diving when programming
This is some fantastic sounds... Bookmarked your Bandcamp page, will likely buy later, my Prophet-12 arrives tomorrow... so time for some serious "woodshed" time... Thanks for this demo... really well done. Quick question, how easy is the Pigtronix Infinity to use and play with live? Cheers
JediSid In terms of raw, synthesis power (but still super easy to use) and sound design, the P12 is in a class by itself. 4 OSC with standard wave shapes and wavetables, linear and exponential FM, AM, microtunings (soon to be added), 4 LFOs, 4 envelopes, 4 delay lines, and an easy to use modulation matrix with 16 definable slots, the P12 really is a sound designers dream. It's just not as in style right now because it's not 100% analog. Analog is totally in vogue right now, so people seem to flocking towards the P6. If traditional analog, subtractive synthesis is what you want, get the P6. If you want the future of sound design now, get the P12.
Daniel Davis I currently own a 12-voice Poly Evolver. What are your thoughts on a comparison of features vs. PEK? Initially I felt that P12 and PEK shared many similar features (ie 3 delay lines on PEK instead of 4 on P12 etc) with not enough differences to pick up a P12, but interested in your thoughts on this. Yea, PEK doesn't have waveshaping of the 12 waveshapes, but it does have 96 (I think) Prophet VS wavetables.... I have to say initially I wasn't very impressed with the sounds/demos I heard from P12 as I found it to be very thin but with more recent demos/patches such as your works, I am getting more impressed as time goes on. Still, not sure if PEK + P12 is overkill/ too much overlap (especially as I am running 12-voices on the PEK, not the typical setup)... but I'd value your insights. Cheers.
synth4ever I think we've already had a similar conversation on Soundcloud. :) I think a 12 voice PEK covers many of the same bases as the P12. Sure, they're different in some ways, but I don't think I"d be interested in having both.
Hello again...and again really nice work here.I notice a minor amount of hiss at the top but once the music gets going its covered up a bit.Something you might want to consider looking into if you ever want to put something out.
Absolutely Amazing Man. So, so, so very very nice. :-) Btw, what's your thoughts on the Strymon Big Sky vs Empress Reverb for such type of application? I've heard the Empress offers more flexibility but not sure if that even matters if you have such a deep shimmering reverb going into the mix.
I've never used the Empress, but can't imagine something offering more flexibility than the Big Sky. I mean, the Big Sky does absolutely everything I'd ever want a reverb pedal to do.
I´m just amazed by this piece. I don´t think you realise the emotional power of it. Kind of Vangelis meets Robert Rich (but different). It doesn´t lack anything, it´s all in it´s right place. I wish I could afford a DSI instrument some day, I´m sure with a Prophet 12 or a Prophet 6 I´ll be covered to make music for 10 years :D Seriously, I can´t stop listening at this and is becoming one of my favorite pieces of music ever. Are you planning on including it on a release or something?
Beautiful performance! Love it! 🎶 👍 😊 I’ve seen an Analog Keys in the Background. Do you think the P12 and the AK will be a good Team performing together? Do you still own them both? Thanks a lot for your feedback! Many greetings from Berlin! 😊
You can generate an INIT patch by holding the LATCH and HOLD buttons together, or find one to start with in the global menu. I don't know of any tutorial videos for this synth.

I have a question. how did you stack the sounds to auto play then play more sounds on top of them? was it the pigtonix looper? or can the synth itself do that function?
I put this on to check the sound of the Prophet 12. Got lost in the Bigsky, started browsing the web while listening, and 12 minutes later I realized how calm and relaxed I was. Incredible sound here man.
Probably the best example of using the Prophet 12. I am immeasurably impressed. Thank you.
Truly great! I'm listening to you playing everything here; the reverb, the Prophet 12, the spaces in between, and the strategic strategic pauses. Really wonderful ambiance. Awesome effects as well. I think you have a very good feel for keeping things from becoming cluttered and distracting. Very nice, fluid touch. And then you bring it back where it all started! My wife and I both loved listening to Daniel and his Prophet 12. Definitely sharing this almost 'Vangelesque' performance.

Chill ambient 😎
Exellent
Beautiful piece 👌
that was amazing - loved it! Took me into a very relaxed and dreamy space....
Truly great electronic music. Outstanding!
lovely and inspiring.
Just wonderful. Very nice ambiant and a very good work with the Prophet 12.
+Frédéric FRETTE Thank you.

You can always support me by purchasing some albums.

Thanks for this superb demo ! Finally decided the P12 is the DSI synth above all others for my preferences. Great stuff.
It's a great synth. My favorite.
Wonderful music! So peaceful! Enjoy it in the morning....
soooo goood! I just acquired the module version and crazy shit is happening!
I want one.
Now keys are stopped.😢
Awesome use of the master vol to swell things in. Man this is so awesomely mesmerizing, ive watched this at least 100x myself. Thank you.
I wan't to listen to this all day. Just wonderful.
This is very lovely. Proper electronic music.
Thank you. Glad you like it.
Wonderful textures.
Stunning sound. Beautiful electronic music!
Every note sounds unique. I like the slight percussive element, especially in the lower notes. The perfect amount of detuning. Well done.
+Valentin Borodin Thank you, I appreciate the careful listen.
Beautiful!
Thank you for this

+BluffMunkey Thanks.

Oh hey, right on! Yes, probably me. :)
Sounds amazing. Great job all around. Nice balance with the DSI tone and the effects.
Well produced and downloaded for listening pleasure.😀
wonderful, thank you
beautiful sounds ... love it!
Very nice!
Beautiful! Very nice!
Amazing track!
Thanks.
Beautiful ambient!
Immaculate beautiful and humble musicpiece.... Love it....
Thanks.
Where do you live? In which country? I have a prophet12 myself too... @@DanielDavissynthman
This demo was what put me over the edge to buy a P12m. Thanks!

Great stuff as always my friend....
Dreamy!
This is gorgeous! Wow!
Fantastica ambient music.
Really lovely stuff!
outstanding
This is incredible.
Thanks for listening.
Great!
Thank you for this. Inspirational.
wow, top quality track
Spectacular! I totally agree with Tor Bruheim. Synths are made to make music. Greetings from Brazil.
really nice! thanks for sharing

This is amazing 😄😄😄
Thank you.
Nice sound !!!
Exceptional mood
Awesome.
Wow. Really nice.
Thank you.
magical :)
Awesome session Daniel! I feel inspired by this:)
+Bram Harmsen that's great!
Very Blade Runner. I like it !
Lovely performance, beautiful sounding and nicely layered. Hope one day I got a spare £2k and I can add one to my set!
Great sounds. the P 12 is one of the best synth.
NEW AGE...MUITO BOM... PARABÉNS!
Bravissimo!
Bigsky kicks ass.
Muy interesante... Me gusto bastante
+Ruben Araiza Porras Gracias, amigo. :)
you are really good on keyboards
+Ruben Araiza Porras thank you. I appreciate it.
Im manager of electronic synthesizer duo in the best school of Tangerine Dream, Mort Garson, Klause Schulze, Jarre etc...the dueto name is ADAM KADMON
+Ruben Araiza Porras I've never heard them. Any links to their music?
Waow
this is a super sweet video

or the waldorf quantum coming up? Also, after some time, how are you liking the montage? im sort of considering a top Kurzweil or it.
This is a relaxing majestic piece. I am reminded of whale sounds with some of it! Star Trek IIV approved. I love the bigsky reverb. Very lush!
Thank you.
So Awesome :D
Wish I could make the prophet sound as good as that
wow! Very nice. This sound could use one by one for the movie: "Blade Runner" !!
Chill man ..... almost put me asleep (thats a good thing :)
Thanks! I take that as a compliment. :)
BRAO!!!
+NinoCotonato Very Brao!!!
Finally someone who is making music on this keyboard. I am bored to listen to others only making creepy bad sounds.
Agree with you Tor. I think we live in a world where younger people grew up programming with a mouse, and the organic connection to a hard synth, especially one as powerful as this, is something many do not easily grasp.
bler blerbler younger generation bleah bleh
nice piece m8
Love it!! Very Vangel'ish :) Need this synth now, and a Strymon Bigsky! :P
Nice. One day I may buy the P12. SO much money, but I think I would never sell it, and maybe it would work for 20 years.
It's worth it. It's a lifetime instrument for sure. I don't think I'll ever explore it fully.
+Michael Bauers the module version is $1800
+chieftp Yeah, but so few knobs, you know? I have other synths I have to menu dive on. I was looking for sufficient knobs to almost eliminate menu diving when programming
World class.
Question ...is the looper catching the stereo out of the p-12 pre Big sky? Most admirable work going on there
+C Math Audio chain: P12 > Big Sky > Looper > DAW
Wow dood!!!!

Thank you for the direct recording - I'm truly tired of listening to beautiful instruments over a computer mic. Nicely done!
Sure thing! I feel the same.
Hello again...and again really nice work here.I notice a minor amount of hiss at the top but once the music gets going its covered up a bit.Something you might want to consider looking into if you ever want to put something out.

Daniel Davis yes, I already check them, nice stuff!
damn - this is soooo rad. Thank you for sharing. would you say this is better than the prophet 6 for sound design?
Luis Guerra for sound design without a doubt. The P12 can go places the P6, and many other synths, can't even dream of.
thank you! just curious... are you based in the US? where can I find some of your music?
I am in the US. Near Seattle. I recently released my 40th album. Some of them are available here.
carlsagansghost.bandcamp.com/
great - I will take a listen! Thank you for sharing
Thanks!
Sounds like Patrick ohearn! I wonder if he used a Prophet 12?
I don't thinks so. Thanks. I really like his stuff.
Beautiful performance! Love it! 🎶 👍 😊
I’ve seen an Analog Keys in the Background. Do you think the P12 and the AK will be a good Team performing together?

Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Many greetings from Berlin! 😊
Yes. Still own them both. Used them both a lot on this album:

Hey danny,
any chance you sell or release any Dave Smith Presets or Banks. Your sounds are awesome. love to know mate!
Cheers
Daniel, please. Definitely not a Danny. :)
I have one set of patches for P12.
ruclips.net/video/MEFX9Uj3XJ8/видео.html
Oh sorry mate! Daniel it is!
I've sent you an email about the patches so I'll await your reply 😁
Thanks man!
Carter
This is really a lovely piece, is it close in anyway to anything you have released? Many thanks!
Thanks. And yes. Most everything I release is similar to this.
I think DSI would sell one hell of a lot more Prophet 12s with sounds designed by you rather than the noises which come as factory patches.
Thanks. I did some sound design work on the OB6, but I don't think they ended up choosing any of my patches to include with the factory presets.
Sounds siq.
Do you know how to create raw sounds w/out the presets? For example, creating double oscillator saw waves style pluck.
Yeah, I don't use any presets. Just select an INIT patch on get on with it.
Where's that? + Do you know of any videos where someone breaks down all the functions of the synth. I feel like there's so much more to it.
You can generate an INIT patch by holding the LATCH and HOLD buttons together, or find one to start with in the global menu. I don't know of any tutorial videos for this synth.
And how do you save a patch?
Steve Simpson The wrote button. Get the manual!
what kinda of camera did you use i like the audio quality
This is just a Zoom Q4
Hi do you still make patches?
is it as good for ambient as Poly evolver?
Can't really say. What do your ears tell you?
haha, your a hoot! I cant decide Ive heard breath of stars magic come out of the PE and really deep pads come out of Pro 12, so was hoping if anyone had a clue thats all mainly for Namlooky pads... Mic xt is in the mix also and Waldrof Q
Chris T haha. Well I can say that the P12 is amazing for pads. Probably better at this than the poly evolver. The the PE is great for other things.
very nice, what kind of reverb was used ?
lol ok, now i saw the description :P
What reverb you using? Is that straight from the prophet or another box?
Strymon Bigsky.
I have a question. how did you stack the sounds to auto play then play more sounds on top of them? was it the pigtonix looper? or can the synth itself do that function?
sweet, your really talented :)
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Are these just presets from the 12? or are they custom? would you make AV Sysex?
These are all of my own patches.
would you make them AV for download? there Awesome :)
like ill buy them if thats the issue or w.e, I dont care bud :P there nice sounds
They're not available right now, but thanks for your interest!
how many patches/layers were used with the entirety of the improvisattion?
I'd say about 8 different patches and at most there were probably 4 layers at a time. Although the layers fad out very slowly while more are added
+Daniel Davis I figured on a few different layers. Great journey mate! Just updated my OS. Had no idea about the Linear FM being added
Right on. The new update is great.
