Joanns have a pack of 25 1" plastic templates. That's what I used for my quilt. I made 50 hexies, then put them together in 'flowers'. After I got the flower done, I popped the plastic out, and made another set.
Hi beautiful, not only you tich us how to sow, your personality chir us up and help us Whit the beautiful words and smiles, thank you so much for your channel 🎉❤ blessings. ❤😊
Thank you for this tutorial! I have bought the hexagon pieces but other tutorials I watched made it look so difficult! Your way makes sense! I am now going to try this! ❤
I am working on doing a queen size quilt. I have been working on it for 3 years lol 😅 I have made several dish drying mat totes. Love watching your videos, you are so inspiring, keep up your amazing ideas 💡
You know those little tear out cards in magazines, that annoy us? My mom used to tear those out, and cut all her hexies out of those. She was raised during the Great Depression, and learned to re-use, repurpose, recycle before it was cool. She made some of the most gorgeous quilts all from leftovers and scraps!
As I was watching this I was cutting out some hexies. I am going to do a quilt and have been thrifting some shirts for the project. I started cutting them out today. I am doing a 2" so it isn't too small...I have seen you and 3 other you tubers talking about hexies recently so I thought I would try it. Thanks for the encouragement. Also, not a quilter but have been gathering thrifted shirts for 7 other quilts ( machine sewn). Wish me luck!
I love EPP. Currently on vacation & ran out of fabrics. I ran to the thrift store to look for suitable fabrics. Found some cotton shirts that’ll do very nicely. The rest of the shirts can be used in my stash. I too have car sickness issues. My husband has renamed me Ms. Hurl-n-Spew. 😂
I just discovered quilt design wall hanging. It is great for placing your designs on the wall instead of a floor or bed. At least that is what I have to use for a big area
I bought one of the template cutters for the hexagons I stay with my mother most days because she has Alzheimer’s and that is something that I can do there for a short time 😊
Something odd about me- I’ve never enjoyed hand stitching anything. I sew my quilt binding down by machine and if I can avoid hand sewing I will--yet-- one of my other hobbies is cross stitch. Go figure. The only hexi flowers I’ve made are for labels on the backs of my quilts. I even machine stitch it down with a blanket stitch if I can figure out where it will land on my backing before sandwiching my quilt. 😅BUT I do so love hexi flowers and you’re making me excited to try again. Just start a project that I know will be a journey yet something I can always pick up and work on… thank you!
Love your videos. I'm a little confused (doesn't take much 🥴) on a quilt, how to you add the batting and backing? Do you have a video on this? I looked but I may have missed it. Tyia❤
I love this, and I hope to be able to try it soon! (I’ll add it to my list of other sewing & crocheting projects!!). How would you do that on a sewing machine though?
This is a great tutorial. I'm glad that I found it because I have a question about another video that I just saw. I saw your video on your "Playground Quilt" and I was wondering what size hexagons you used on it. It's beautiful and so is this coaster.
You make everyone want to go sew. and everyone can go to dollar tree. Thrift stores have a lot of new sheets and pillowcases that make skirts and dresses and a lot of different things.
When you do English paper piercing with hexagons, how do you determine the size of hexagon to use for your project? And in the coaster that you're making in this video you said that you are using a 2" hexagon and glueing your fabric to it. What kind of glue are you using? Is it a special fabric glue or a school glue?
I can't wait for a full quilt tutorial! I am mostly curious about backing and binding it by hand.

It turned out so pretty!
A button stitch would look really nice😊

My grandmother and my mother made their hexagons out of fine sandpaper back in the 50s because it would grasp the fabric ever so gently.
Sew smart!

I like to put the tiny snips of fabric I accumulate when sewing outside in a tree for birds to use in their nests. My mom was a big bird watcher.
Lovely idea!
I’m the same way with motion sickness! God blessed me with being able to crochet in The car - it’s THE ONLY thing I can do!

I grew up using Bees Wax for hand sewing. It's still sold at JoAnn's, Walmart in fabric dept, and Hobby Lobby🧵🪡

I have always used soap and a candle, too, to help the thread to glide.

Can you use knits? Or you have to use cotton fabrics?
When stitching, do you nic the edge of the papers that are in there?
Sometimes. Ideally you don’t but it’s not the end of the world if it happens!
Hello what size was your hexagon ?
What kind of glue stick do you use?
What size sewing needle is good for this
I use a number 9 sharps
