When I put elastic into a casing, I mark my overlap spot on the elastic, but I don't cut it. After I push the elastic through the casing, I have a long piece of elastic hanging out, no worries that it will get lost in the casing. Then I gather the fabric over the elastic and find the overlap mark. I sew the two ends together before I cut the elastic off. I find it works best for me this way. Maybe it will help someone else, too. Thanks for this tutorial. These would be good for raising bread dough in a bowl, too.
Before you mentioned the shower curtain I was thinking about making one of these for my bread bowl for when I have bread rising. I make bees wax wraps, you could easily wax one of these and cover bread dough with it or use it to keep food from drying out. ❤
I am excited to sew again!! I got an old machine out because my son volunteered me to sew new covers for the neighbors 20 year old lawn chairs (he didn't save the old one for a template 😢). . . I got it done and went to the Dollar Tree to get drying mats and hand towels to attempt a carrier for a 9 x 13 pan. Get for taking stuff to church fellowships!
SUGGESTION ONLY: Pin the starting end of the bias tape to an ironing board (Example) then you can iron along as the material goes thru the bias maker. That way it won't move while you're ironing the bias and is much faster and easier to do. 😊
Love watching you! I have bias tape tools but I have never used them. So fun to see. Thank you! You make me want to sit at my machine in my craft room and create! My family calls it my “crap” room. 🤣🤣
I started to buy some of the hair covers and my husband threw a fit saying I didn't know what was in the plastic and he didn't want his food touching it.
My first Selena she was from Seers and I still have it and I haven’t used in the forever because it kept making birds nests and getting all tangled up. Seers finally gave up trying to fix it and gave me a coupon for a new one. I need to Seers as well. But I was trying to get out was it said you could sew over pins with it I never broke a pin but just I did bend a few. But it did miss up some needles when I did that.
Love your channel Chelsea. Watching you sew is giving me the confidence to use my mom's old sewing machine and tackle an easy, small stakes project that doesnt matter if i make some beginner mistakes. Keep teaching and showing us new things about bias tape and other tips and tricks! Appreciate you! Maybe you can make a video about beginners maintenance of sewing machine. How to thread the machine. How to put the needle in. Basic troubleshootig that you have to do when sewing.
Store bought bias is usually not exactly folded in half. Put the slightly wider side under the edge so you can sew near the edge of the part on top and catch the wider underside.
Thank You Chelsea! You are an awesome teacher! I’m excited to start sewing some things. I went to the Dollar Tree and purchased the drying mats to make my first purse and/or tote bag. I’m going to make some bowl covers too. I’ve needed these so many times!! ❤
I feel a need to address a comment regarding not using bias tape. I am curious how you would apply the elastic to the fabric? I’m a seasoned crafter/quilter/garment seamstress and I’m curious because I can’t think of a better way. I’m kind of old though and maybe I’m just forgetting something. I hope this doesn’t sound snarky because it’s not meant to be. ❤👍😎🧐
It’s a great question! You can fold the hem in at 1/4 inch around the circle and press and then turn in another 1/2 inch around the circle and press. The reason I chose the bias tape method is that it could be argued that trying to hem a circle as a beginner sewist can be just as challenging if not harder than using bias tape which naturally arcs with your fabric. There’s a million ways to do things when it comes to sewing and I always appreciate people like you who use kindness and genuine curiosity in their tone when asking questions or commenting. Thanks for being you! ❤❤ Happy Sewing! 🎉
@@shesewsseams I think the nicest, most professional way is with the bias tape. For me fiddling about with seams on a circle just isn’t worth the effort. I’ve done it, but my arthritic fingers just don’t want to do it that way!🤪
A) I love this fabric 😂😂😂 B) my husband is 36 and still in the “messy spaghetti stage” of life 😂😂😂 interested to see if my two boys ever grow out of it, or if they will take after their dad 🤭
The first I ever saw of these gadgets were called Braid- Aids for rug braiding. Every now and then, maybe 2 or 3 times a year, I like to wander through aisles of sewing aids and notions, just looking.
Thank you for these!! Seriously I absolutely love watching all of your videos. Your personality is truly so welcoming and always uplifting. I also have three kids and often wish to make them eat outside as well. 🤣 not sure how old your kiddos are but my middle child is 11 and she still eats like a toddler so maybe they will outgrow it 🤷♀️ maybe not 😂. Thank you for always giving me inspiration.
I just subscribed and so happy i did. You have such great ideas. I can't wait to scroll through them all. I love your little chuckles as you go, it makes your videos even more fun to watch!
Hi there!! I'm new to this channel & found myself binged watching ur DT videos & loving it!😊 However, I noticed that u wear pretty light weight coverups. Would u be so kind to show us how to take our measurements & to sew one of these...Tks a million & blessings 💚😊 I did look to see if u made any videos, but I didn't see any😢
@shesewsseams don't be offended.. the comment section is not just for you but for viewers, if I can save someone the time, money and effort on a step that's not necessary don't upset with the assist. I mean I could have said why aren't u lining it with shield especially since you made It a point to reference using this during picnic season. If you don't know what it is ..Fairfield makes it.. 🙌

Chelsea because of you I’m taking my sewing machine out of the closet and so excited about making things you are teaching!
That is awesome! I’m so excited!!!
I look forward to your videos. Love the way you explain the techniques. You are a breath if fresh air.❤

Oh my goodness, I love you so much for giving me courage to see. I thank you for your tutorials
You are the best on utube. This is the channel for beginners. You explain steps very well. I’ve been sewing for many years and enjoy watching you. Tfs
You are so welcome!

I was gifted some food safe lining material so I’m going to try using that with the fabric. 🤞🏻
Great idea!
I just have to comment that my 6 year old likes to watch you videos with me💜 love your videos 💓
Awww that’s so fun!!! 🤩
This is very cute! I hate that I'm telling you this, but oh my goodness don't forget to close the blade on your cutter!

What a great cover that turned out to be 👏👏👏
I love the look of the bias tape myself. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thanks for the kind words!
Instead of a shower liner, you could use a 2qt zip lock bag (cut to size). Then it would be food safe
My machine & your sew alongs!
This is the cutest material for this project.

I have a crap room too😂
The bias tape makes it so cute!! I have seen it without but I like your way so much better. Thanks for sharing your talent with us ☀️🌺
Thanks so much! 😊 I appreciate it!
Love this! I'm a "super" beginner and this seems easy enough and you make great tutorials (especially the slower ones). Thank you for all you do.
You are so welcome!
Cute, quick project. Love your humor.
Thank you! 😊
Once again you are motivational and fun. I have yards and yards of elastic from pandemic mask days. Thanks for your time
Cute idea. I have a friend who goes to a beauty supply store and she buys the plastic hair covers. Works good too
I started to buy some of the hair covers and my husband threw a fit saying I didn't know what was in the plastic and he didn't want his food touching it.
If you curve the bias binding as you iron it, it will be easier to sew. Doesn’t have to be exact either!
I really enjoy your sewing tutorials, and partly because you as a Very Pleasant Person.
Fun project! Love the fabric!!
Thank you! 😊
I have been wanting to make some fo those - thanks for the tutorial! / Jan
You are so welcome!
You could use a plastic freezer bag to be food safe with these
Attach the binding to the back side first. Then fold over and stitch the front. Then you are assured both sides of the bias is stitched.
Yes! If you quilt, just bind it like a quilt, doing a machine-stitched binding.
Very simply done and without any stress... Thank ou ver much!
You're very welcome!

I use shower caps as bowl covers. 😊
Absolutely adore you and loving you tutorials
That print is absolutely adorable. I wish I could find some of that because I would make some of these for my son he's an absolute hot sauce fanatic!
There are online fabric stores that specialize in novelty fabrics. zi would be surprised if you couldn't find it!

Really nice..a little bit bigger it could be surgical bonnet.

Nice.
Chelsea could I do this with the shower curtains? They used to sell them at the dollar store already made, I like using them for left overs.?

Great project, Thank you. Is there something I can line them with so they can be put in the fridge?
Chelsea, I love all your content, thanks for sharing. Question do you think cotton flannel would be ok for these bowl covers?
You could certainly try it!
Awesome 🎉
Thanks 🤗
I'm curious on the sewing machine your using in this video. Please let me know what kind, brand it is. Thank you
It’s a Brother Innovis from about 8 years ago. They don’t make it anymore but here is the updated, newer version!

Hello, Just signed up to your channel over the weekend and binged watched. I see today your beautiful kimono. Will you share what pattern you used?

How much elastic did it take?
Be nice that’s how she does it
What is the width of your bias tape?
What kind of sewing machine do you have?

I have seen these that have been soaked in bees wax to make it water resistant.
lol… needle shrapnel…. LOL!!!!!
Your dollar tree must be a gold mine....Ours is not that well stocked!
You made it alot harder then it needed to be.. no reason for bias tape at all
Mmmmm. You’re always such a ray of sunshine in my comment section… 🌞
Go somewhere else negative Nancy 🙄
Agreed no bias tape needed, if this is being curated for beginners double fold seam is sufficient
