what a lovely wedding story. My husband and I were first married in a judges chambers at a courthouse in 1996, alone, just us. At Christmas 2020 he asked me to do it again for our 25th anniversary on April 1st 2021. We started planning a small but beautiful gathering but it never happened. I lost him on January 30th 2021 to lymphoma that we found out about on January 16th. I love sunflowers too. Thank you for bringing a little brightness to my days.

Another idea would be to buy the little box of diaper disposal bags from the baby aisle at Dollar Tree. They could probably fit in the one placemat size trash collector. Easy, peasy...just tie the bag closed and toss it. The bonus is that they are baby powder scented!

Unless you have a straight stitch only machine, you can use one of the many decorative stitches to decorate the outside of the placemats. My Singer basic has a total of 34 stitches. So if you can't find the pretty placemat you like, buy one that has a pretty "back" and make it the front. Get some pretty colored thread and go for it. A simple chicken scratch stitch meandering all over the plain "back" will look cute.

I’ve searched for YEARS to find a vehicle garbage bag!!! Augh!!!
Now this was a no brainer, except I obviously didn’t think of this!
I did a couple different things:
I bought a yard or so of Pellon 102 Vinyl-fuse vs using shower curtain. Doesn’t slide, easy to sew, a bit more $$ but worth it for me.
Instead of using elastic, which over time stretches, losing the elasticity… especially in a heated and freezing vehicle! I’m using the little hanging hook which come on the mats, the item usually hangs on this hook in the store. Repurposed and no extra charge! I’ll hang it from the headrest post.
Just my twists making it mine in my sewing room where I reign! 👑👸

Love this idea!! Thanks so much.❤
Cool tips for anyone learning to sew.
To help you sew a straight seam, especially when top-stitching and you want it to be perfect, you can place a piece of blue painters tape on the machine to give you a better visual for your seam allowance. And don't watch the needle. Watch the fabric as it lines up with the tape.
Also don't push or pull your fabrics as you sew meaning allow the machine to do its job. The feed dogs will pull most fabrics at the pace required to create beautiful stitches without puckers. With very thick projects you might have to help it move along but even then I find if I let the machine pull the fabric along I get beautiful results.
I've been sewing for 58 years after being taught by the most wonderful Home Economics teacher. By the time I graduated high school I was sewing my own clothing with Pendelton wool. I made slacks, lined jackets and so many skirts.
You can do so much with a sewing machine if you have a good teacher...this lady is just that. So awesome!!!🎉❤

Loved finding this channel, and your tutorial on this "trashy" project. I think I can adapt it to fit the console (where we put our trash bag). Your story about the flowers was really sweet. My late husband and I did a VERY low-budget wedding (actually, a no-budget wedding LOL). We got married New Year's Eve, and there were still flowers growing in our friend's yard, so we just picked roses and ferns from her yard for my bouquet. It was beautiful. No bridesmaids (married in this lady's living room), so I only needed one bouquet. (EDIT: I also liked that you didn't fuss too much about the placement of the elastic. Close counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and trash bags. Sometimes I get too caught up in "exactness" and forget to have fun while sewing.)

You could use a cheap vinyl table cloth with a flannel backing for the liner. When making bags I usually leave the opening for turning in the linig then stitch it shut after turning. One of my daughter in laws also loves sunflowers. ❤️ Thanks for sharing your creative ideas with us.

My husband and I got married 40+ years ago in June, in my hometown church, had room for about 50 people. Our reception was in my parents backyard. My bridesmaids and I went around town and asked people for tiger lilies and daisies. Town has less than 300 people and everyone knew me and were happy to give me flowers. We made all table centres and bouquets and church alter vases bouquets. Such fun and very inexpensive. I wouldn’t change a thing if we did it again, except my parents and their home are no longer with us.

I LOVE the bag, but have a question that's totally off topic. What is your curly hair routine? Your curls are SO pretty!!

I made this yesterday. I made it with a tab to hang from the glove box for front seat trash. I put my tab on backwards but it's a trash bag so whatever, man! And NOOOOWWWW I'm thinking I'll make another one, attach the tab correctly, then attach a pin cushion to the tab and BAM I'll have a thread catcher. I love this project!

I sew clothes mainly, instead of reversing, I press the full circle. It stays in one spot but knots your thread, then you don't get 3 or 4 stitches going over each other.

As usual another awesome affordable & easy sewing project. I also see this as a purse (when straps are added) & use as a "gift bag" for light items then it can be used as trash bag or purse. Great for Christmas or any occasion gift!❤😊

I sewed two placemats together vertically, added a coordinating fabric liner, fabric straps, and a couple pockets. I gave it to my book-loving neice for a book tote bag. She LOVED it! It came together quick, too. Thanks to Chelsea, I felt like I knew what I was doing🎉

Thanks for all the awesome tutorials you give! Years ago, I learned to make corners by taking one or two stitches diagonally across the corner, rather than making a 90-degree turn. Trim, then turn. For me, it makes it easier to get a nice, sharp corner.
