  • The Summer Cover Up is a very beginner friendly garment if you’re just getting started making clothing. The fit is flowy and loose so no crazy fittings are required and the seams are very straight forward. If you’ve recently purchased a serger/overlocker - this is also a wonderful way to get some practice using it!

I love the way you encourage people to just jump in, but warn about the rocks along the way. I am not a total beginner but I learn things from you. There are very few prople in the millions of videos I have watched who mention characteristics of the fabric, needle size and stitch length.
I love your bright bubbly personality and genuine love for getting into your sewing projects. Thank you so much for sharing all of it.

I ended up going on eBay and found a Singer brand brand new in original packaging Cutter Foot that mimics a serger machine that is used on your regular sewing machine.
They range between $10-60 depending on where you go to purchase them. I know Joann’s carries them as well. I bought mine for $9 on eBay in brand name, not counterfeit either. It looks a lot like the Singer walking foot with the housing. Pay attention to your sewing machine whether it has high or low shank. It connects exactly like the walking foot. There’s RUclips videos that shows and explains in great detail how to properly use them and how to load your fabric properly to get it to cut.
Although it doesn’t do everything that a serger machine can do, it will give a nice clean finished edge.
I hope this helps someone, it’s like a baby step towards getting a serger machine.

What??? I had no idea! I will look into that...thanks!

    • @Leesie77
      @Leesie77 2 месяца назад

@@DH-qz2so, no problem! Both Amazon and eBay sell them. I just typed in “side cutter foot” in the search bar in both apps. I ended up going with eBay because they had Singer brand name and the one I got was listed as auction or best offer. They had it listed for $13, I offered $9 and got it with free shipping. The brand name Singer foot typically runs about $20 on eBay with free shipping. At Joann’s Fabric they wanted almost $70 for the same exact kit (I got 3 feet in the same package). So even at $20 new is still a really great deal for brand name. They sell same thing unbranded from China too.
There’s tons of RUclips videos and tutorials on how to properly install and load your material into the foot. There’s lots of reviews from people on RUclips too that are true because they didn’t pay attention on the instructions of how to properly load the material into the foot and wouldn’t cut for them. Just be discerning with RUclips videos for tutorials.
I promise you won’t regret getting one and learning how to load the material correctly into the foot to “serge” and sew. Plus it’s only 2 threads used, your upper and bobbin thread with a zigzag stitch.
It’s an inexpensive route to try and learn before spending a couple hundred on a machine that can be intimidating and potentially collect dust lol.
It’s always good to have the cutting foot anyway even if one has a serger. Use it as a backup in case the serger becomes inoperable or needs maintenance done.
Good luck and I hope it works out for you! Have a beautiful and blessed day!!

30 years ago my mom had a serger that had never been out of the box… I not only took it out of the box… I put at least a mile of sewing with it… now my sister has it and I’ve graduated to a little bit nicer serger albeit older than the one mom gave to my sister.

That is LOVELY fabric. How do you keep it from getting "eaten" by your feed dog area? I've had super cheap basic sewing machines all the way to my NEW computerized one EAT FABRIC in the FEED DOG area. Seems that the machine takes that FEED DOG too seriously. Thanks for the tutorial, LOVE IT!! great job. I LOVE how you use things that are easy to find around the house if necessary to sew with . That makes it SEW much easier on us everyday peeps that don't have a big sponsor buying us stuff to use. LOVE the tip on doing the CORNER of the neck or anything else --watched it 3 times to memorize it. OOOH and How to use the 1/4 inch seam allowance FOOT. I've got several FEET that I don't even know WHAT they're used for. Came with the machine or in a KIT with other FEET . I've got one of the 1/4 in. seam ones and NOW I know what it's for and HOW to use it. THANK YOU.

    Hey there.
The first video I saw for you was the pyjama one. I was looking for a tutorial to do PJs for my kids and I came across yours.
Something about your videos that feel like they are coming from your heart. 🌹
I like your messy (in a good way😉) room, where things are laying on the floor or a plastic bag hanged on the door knob makes it as real as our homes are. Not those neat well maintained well edited videos to show the best. No, it's kinda laid back conventional scene, not to mention how informative and how much you give all tips you can. 🌹
You're such a sweet person. Keep up the good work ❤😊🌹 🥰.

Thank you for making this look so easy. I have adhd and never want to do something by myself unless I have someone with me “holding my hand”. I think it’s more that I want someone experienced within arms reach that can explain stuff to me so I don’t waste my time and it becomes yet another unfinished project, which I have a TON of. I almost bought a serger and have always wanted to but I needed to know the difference and the benefits, etc. It’s probably why I bought a sewing machine from Walmart in case I break it. Honestly the information to teach myself is daunting so aside from the easy little projects I try to do haphazardly is no longer enough for me and want to sew nicer things for my family members like this

Thank you so much for this video 💚 Could you tell me how tall you are? I’m always looking for good patterns to fit (I’m 6ft and plus) it’s really helpful to know. Thank you 😊

I did that already when altering pants. I went into the mens clothing store where I worked, sobbing. They just gave me a new pair and told me to be more careful. Only to find out, I did far less than the other tailors that worked there

I feel so cold out. I bought my first serger for just $25 from someone who was not wanting it in her life anymore, and then I proceeded to let it just sit there. I did find the original owner's manual which she no longer had, I found it online then about 6 months later I ordered a set of black thread cones for it. And it's sitting there right now and yeah maybe this will be my week I'll actually take a stab at it.
(edited to correct the spelling of serger, lol)

Just run scrap fabric through it until you get comfortable!

I use my server on all fabrics. Not sure why anyone would only use it on knits...Otherwise your video is wonderful!

Please give me some advice… I’d love a serger but have little money to spend. Do you have any recommendations?

Could you put the trim around the bottom or would that not look right?

What stitch length do I use for straight stitching? I love the end result. Much better than made from China! lol! Dress is very flattering too

Awesome video! ❤ I do have a question about the serger. Since it trims some of your seam allowance, do you need to cut the fabric a little bigger to allow for the trimming?
Thanks for this step by step.

Nope! It’s included in the seam allowance!
