That top came out amazingly perfect. The "topstitching" zigzag on the sleeves made it look like the original seam and made all the difference in a professional looking finish.
Great outfit, Catherine! It would have been as perfect a date night outfit back in my day (I’m 75:) as it is right now. You did an excellent job of making it fit you!! I love this channel & learn so many things - and no stress!! It’ll be fine!! ❤️👏🏻
I love your video's. Thank you for the fip on the stabilizing stuff for the pants. I sew (yes I serge too) but I also sew 'a lot' with knits and I'm not that skilled, so I spend a ton of time, testing on the scraps. Also they look 'great'!! How you sew, makes me feel better about how I sew. Because I haven't taken any courses since Home Ec in 1977 (or even before that...lol)...so, I'm learning on the fly. And these video's are a huge help. I love how you tailor things to fit you! I do that also. Thanks again! I look forward to more!
Thank you, Catherine! I learn so much from every video that you make and each one builds my confidence. I hope the fireworks were as beautiful as your outfit ❤
On fabric like the top, to get that "finished" edge on the sleeve, instead of just zig-zaging before cutting, you could zig-zag 1/8" elastic along the sleeve line. Besides giving more of a visual of where to cut, you will also have a more sturdy edge to sew into the armhole.
Cute new outfit! I really like the top. It can be worn over many different colored camisole tops, especially since the pants have lots of colors in them, too. Big win.
Wow, that is a gorgeous lace crocheted top, and you even improved it! I would have been stymied! The pants look great too, thanks for showing your hemming method, I would have not tried, but now I think I could. You do such a variety of projects - thank you!
Fun to watch. I love open lace type of tops, but have not dared to sew on one. This video gives me a good example how to work on one. A new craft project idea for me! Thank you!
The frixion pens I own were made for quilters. Any marks I make with them will reappear when the fabric gets freezing cold (the marks do not wash out). However the marks will disappear when you put heat to the marks again. I hope your frixion pens are not the same kind as mine. You look great in your cute outfit.
Great video, Catherine, it was really helpful to see how you realized you needed to allow for more fabric in the back top sleeve and to watch you adjust that fit. The top looks great on you! Cheers!🎉❤
I love sergering, too! I feel like many creators are getting slack for using a serger since not everyone has access to one, but I love that you always use yours and provide an option if they don't have one.
You have a lot more courage than I have. I would have been afraid that the lace would just disintegrate when I cut it. I watched this because I have some similar pants that I need to hem. I'm having trouble seeing how much shorter they need to be. I was trying to pin them up to see about the length, but the material tends to shift and be uneven.
Love all your alteration videos. You inspire me so much. I bought a pair of gorgeous Elle Tahari pants that were on clearance and a bit too big for me. Just took the waist in at the side seams and although I had to try on and adjust several times, they came out perfect and now I have a great fitting beautiful pair of pants! Thanks so much for all your videos. Big Hugs.
Catherine, you do the most amazing alterations and your final result always looks professional! Good job and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try what you do, but I enjoy learning from you. I also have a favorite small embroidery/sewing scissors - the Gingher lightweight embroidery scissors - and they are a little bit cheaper on Amazon than the Zwilling scissors. They look very similar. Thanks again for all the great content!
Hi Catherine - AMAZING as usual! Can you please make a video about shortening the shoulder (and subsequently the sleeve cap) on a Tshirt? I am watching a video that seems a bit more than necessary. I think you could make it great without adding darts and such.
When you're basting you can use a different color thread so it's easier to see. Because the basted thread will always be removed. I never thought of that myself but it occurred to me while watching you.
In the seventies, we called these pants bell-bottoms, since the legs are shaped narrow around the thigh and down to around the knee and then flared down to the hem, looking like a bell. Pallazzo pants' legs are evenly wide from top to bottom.
I have some knit pants that I absolutely love just pull up no pockets no zippers just an elastic waistband. I want to make some breezy pants. Do I just lay them out and cut around them to make another pair? Do you have a link/video for me?
What a cute outfit! That fabric is neither knit nor crochet. It's some kind of lace, maybe knotted, chemical, needle or bobbin lace. If you want to fall down a rabbit hole, just read the article about lace on wikipedia. Instead of pinching the sleeves and marking the fold you could mark your skin where the hem of the sleeve hits your hand, then pull the sleeve up to the desired length and mark your skin again.
Whoa Girl. My heart was in my mouth watching you tackle that beautiful Knit Sweater. Awesome Job. Could I ask if you would have handled shortening the Sleeve differently if the Shoulders and Neckline already fit? Just wondering if you could have used clear Elastic to stabilize the Knit around the arm width, then removed the 4" and sewed it back together? Maybe removing the excess from just above and below where your Elbow is? BTW, I've got a groovy top with all the same fitting issues. The material is just awesome being made from that Sunburst Pleating. It is so unique. I was waiting for exactly this type of lesson before getting the nerve to cut! Thank Catherine!
Thanks! Yes, I think you could shorten the sleeve from the bottom, and I don't even think you'd need the clear elastic. I think I wold just cut the sleeve an inch or so about the heavy lace detail, raise the lace up, zig zag it back on by following the edge of the lacey design, and then trim off the excess on the front and back. I hope that is fairly clear, lol.
@@CatherineSews Thank you Catherine. Like I said, you give me COURAGE. Roar! Idea! Hey, how about a Demo for shortening a Skirt from the waistline? I've only seen it done once... Basically creating a new Waistline for a Skirt that has become too small at the waist, and there is plenty below. Of course you might want to slim the Silhouette? Grab them with the new while your HOT!
@@sarawelder1 thank you! As for sharpening seam rippers, I’d love to know! Maybe I should investigate this and a few other questions and turn the results into a video!

I love your style! This is just so perfect on you. I like the idea of having unique creations that are not contributing to fast fashion. You've made me realize one can be conscientious about the environment without skimping on style or choices.
I have a question about dress lengthening. Can I drop the shoulder so the midi straight A line dress would be longer and the armpit would have more ease?
Hi Catherine. I love lace/ eyelet/crochet, etc tops. I am thinking a cream coloured camisole would be more flattering. How difficult would it be to line it? That way you could wear any colour pants and not worry if you had the right colour camisole.
