My 3 teens always blamed each other about who left the dirty towels and other things. I had them each pick a color from the 8 pack Crayola crayons, and that was it! Their color for everything. Sheets towels, medicine bottles, cups, no more fighting!

THANK YOU! I received a serger as a gift last year and (shamefully) have been too intimidated to use it. But NOW I am inspired and encouraged and motivated to make these for Christmas gifts!! And hopefully, trim down my abundant flannel stash. 😂

I have been teaching sergers for over 40 years you are such a delight and do such a great job wether it be serger, sewing machine or dollar tree. Keep up the good work. You light up my day. I am still teaching but i am 81 and just teaching a ministry Kids to Sew and Sow and ladies of the church one night a week. The weeks i teach the children we have 5 days of class then a style show so we can get the parents to come see what they have accomplished. It is such fun. I taught all kinds of sewing and sergers pattern drafting etc.
You and Angelia Wolf are my favorites. Great Job😄

A helpful hint for flannel before washing: On the cut ends (straight from the store ends) use a zigzag stitch on both ends. This will keep the raveling down to a minimum!

Thanks for teaching me how to tie in the tails. I made my dad some handkerchiefs last year and they are fraying. Now I can whip him up some more 😃

  • @smarttraveler8232

You can create a casing using your serger by folding the fabric back right sides together about 2 inches (from the top) then fold the fabric back up 1 inch so that it meets the top again. Then serge the 3 layers together and fold the serged edge to the inside. You can do this before or after you sew the side seam. Then open a hole by cutting or using a seam ripper or installing a grommet ahead of time. I think a beginner can do this.

What a great idea! I think you could also use these little towels if you take a lunch box to work, place it under the box as you eat, or dry your hands after lunch, wipe the table...etc...Or roll one for your kids lunch box (even smaller size). You could use same technique to create a set of reusable napkins for home. For a bag, if you are in a hurry simply buy those mesh laundry bag , as you so cleverly said, throw it in the laundry and Presto Cadabra - you're set. Great idea, great video! 👍

Funny you should mention using the pinking shears - I bought 48 different fabrics to replenish my stash. After washing a few of the 1 yard pieces I thought that doing a trim might help so I trimmed one end of each one of the next batch. Taking them out of the washer I could tell which end had been trimmed - taking them out of the dryer both sides were so frayed I couldn't tell that either side was any different. I looked for any sign of the trim - no luck. Maybe my dryer is just to tough - I don't know but it didn't help me. A few of the pieces did fray less, but it must just have been the material because both ends looked the same.

bunch of paperless toilet paper. I still use regular paper at night because I don't want to wait for the water to get warm, Right now I'm saving up to buy a bidet toilet seat and hopefully won't need toilet paper even at night. I'll still keep a roll on hand for guests.
