To waterproof the seams, use seam sealer that is used for tents. It prevents rain from leaking into the tent even during heavy storms. It should work here, too.
I learned about seam sealing tents from watching this very detailed video from Luke from the Outdoor Gear Review. I tried to link it, but it didn't work. Sorry! Do a search for his channel and seam sealing tents. You can get seam sealer from Amazon, Walmart, any sporting goods stores, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. I hope this helps.😊
My little sister is always telling me that I am doing things wrong - I have learned to be patient with her and tell her "I like doing things the hard way". lol
Like the bag you made and I like how you talk and explain everything nice and slow so everyone can see and understand what you're doing. I guess you do learn something new everyday. Well I least I do. Thanks for showing me your wonderful work.
I see your videos and applaud your ingenuity! My question is how in the world do you look at a drying mat and say I'm going to make bags with this? I'm just amazed
I have to say that I've learned a lot just watching this video and others before it. I've sewn for some time but thought I knew it all. I can say I don't two of my friends are getting tote bags for Christmas gifts. You've got some very creative ideas that anyone can learn to do. thanks for sharing!
Crumbs your dish dryly clothes are so much firmer , than ours in the Uk . We would more or less be able to crunch ours up , even the best ones you can get . Are the ones you have easy to dry things with being so firm . Liked your finished project . Thank you for sharing .
I'm near obsessed with these drying mat bags! My daughter, mom, nieces, and sisters are reaping the benefits, too.😊 I've learned so much. Thank you for making these videos.
I have just found your videos and I have to say I absolutely love how positive and encouraging you are! I just started seeing but I’m a teacher on a budget and your projects have inspired me to make some things for myself! Thank you for having such a positive and uplifting presence!
Love! I have a suggestion for the sticking of the plastic on the machine - you can use wax paper or parchment paper underneath or put some scotch tape on the presser foot. I preferred the paper😊. I enjoy your craft ideas and encouragement. One wet bag coming up!
Thank you! This was a great idea and a fun project to create. I have a few ideas to share. Those little squares left over from cutting the dish mat corners, when sewn together, make a great coaster. I set my 4 little squares on a nice scrap of fabric and sewed them down. Another suggestion would be, if there is a coordinating tea towel (like with the fun seasonal mats) you could use this fabric for the handle and the zipper pull cover thingies so the colours and textures match. Looking forward to seeing what comes next! **Edit** I forgot to mention that during the sewing of the slippery plastic fabric where you clip it to the the zipper, during the sewing I had a hard time convincing that plastic to play nice so I used more of my clips all the way around anchoring that slippery stuff to the dish drying mat better. I had less traveling of the plastic layer as I was sewing.
So far I have made 3 bags. I got the idea for the third one elsewhere, but I watch and listen to you as I go. You are doing a great job inspiring creativity! Thank you.
Chelsea, can you show us how to make this a freezer bag for carrying frozen food from the grocery store? I am new to your channel and I love it!! You make sewing fun!
Chelsea, I love it!!!! I always look forward to watching your videos. You’re witty, hilarious, sassy, & very motivational in getting people to just take a chance. Like Nike: Just Do It! All in, or nothing & all. Just give it your best effort. I consider myself an experienced sewist, yet you’re able to teach this old dog new tricks. Thank you for remaining true to who you are. Stay positive, stay bubbly, & just keep on w/keeping on!
you must have an awesome dollar tree, All the ones we have where I live have hardly anything for any dollar tree diy that I see online including yours, they are soooooo slow to stock up, but I did manage to find one solitary watermelon dish drying matt and made your zippered pouch so thank you for that
I love your videos !!! My favorite tool in my sewing room is a school desk. The old ones that you could slide your books under the top. It's lamented on top. I place a towel on top of the desk. It's my ironing table. Ot sits next to me while I sew my quilts. I don't have to get up from my sewing to iron. It works perfectly for my quilting. Plus I store my instruction Manuel's for my machines underneath the desktop .The best part is I only paid $5 for it at my local thrift store.
Love your jacket! It turned out great! You have the confidence of a 40 yo, but you look younger! I love watching your videos! Top stitch is 2.5 because I’m a quilter and usually stitch seams at 1.6 in quilts and no back stitching. Regular sewing is different, but still usually use 2.5. Regarding lining: if it tears after sewed, just use duct tape to fix! Simple and easy.
Making a trip to the Dollar Tree today, just love your wet bag project! Fantastic! Have always shied away from projects with zippers, but this seems like a great place to begin! Thanks!
I love this idea, my dollar tree never has nice patterns on these mats only solid colors, I’m going to try another store and see if I can find 2 with a design lol I’ll buy a bunch if I can thank you for teaching it slow and not confusing like some videos are
I’m in love with all these ideas you give. I have made 2 bags so far with the drying mats. I grabbed two of each style I could find at dollar tree lol. Thank you ❤
Hi there, I have your really enjoy your videos, thank you for being relatable. Some of us our intimidated with the machines. So, being kind and explaining as you do, you will always have me as a subscriber.
We wrap our bathing suits in towels then put in bag. I like that you explain that you’re gently pulling/guiding the fabric on the fabric after it’s been stitched. This bag could also be used in cold/frozen foods from grocery store. Put a little ice pack in and Bobs your uncle! I’ve seen so many videos where the sewest s pulling really hard on it. I sit there and constantly tell them to stop that but they never listen. 🤨. Love your projects. Not sure what they have in my dollar tree stores. I’m finding they don’t have as good of a variety of products. I’ve heard that a lot of the US stores even have freezer sections with frozen meals etc. we don’t have that in Victoria BC Canada. I also learned that each store has no say in what products they receive. Head office decides what each store will receive. 😊❤️🇨🇦
I loved this video! You came across my RUclips feed and I’m so glad you did! Watching this… you make me feel I can sew this! You are so kind! You teach sooooooo well! I subscribed. I love your way of sewing.
I love this! I recently made the zipper pouch using one drying mat and zipper from DT. I felt the same excitement when I finished it that you have in this video! So much fun!
I am having so much fun with these! I have been trying to come up with how to make a casserole carrier or warm cover for a casserole for the holidays when I am always entertaining and going to family gatherings?🤔 any ideas lol. I work in a hospital so we are always brining in food and giving small little gifts to one another for something. These casserole covers would be amazing as gifts for this with the casserole as a house warming gift too!!!!!! Thank you Chelsea❤
Yes it’s adorable you are very clever and entertaining I went to my DOLLAR TREE to see if they have them but no luck but I do have the butterflied dish mats that I will make it to a bag at some point thanks for the great videos
I made myself and two friends the butterfly dish drying mat wet bags. We took them to our water aerobics class and within minutes I had people asking where I got them. When they learned I made them soon I had people ordering them. Thanks Chelsea for making these tutorials so easy to follow and more importantly so fun.
Hi Sally here ! I enjoy your videos so much and the things you do. I have been sewing for over 50 years, I don’t use a seam allowance 😅I just try and sew straight!!!

The handle of the underbed storage is perfect size for zipper tabs. I went on a "Chelsea" $tree shopping trip. Because of your videos, I am obsessed with creating things from the dish drying mats. Thank you.
Chelsea I stumbled across your videos by accident just a few weeks ago and I have to say I love your personality and how you teach on each project you make. I am pretty much new to sewing, last time I ever used a sewing machine was back in home economics in high school..waaay ba k when they did that stuff. Your videos are so clear and easy to follow, I have yet to make anything but will soon by watching your videos. Thank you for your step by step process and your contagious smile and laughter.

I actually finished making this bag! And it stands up! Thank you for posting this series of videos. They are exactly what I needed to get started. They have a wide selection in different themes.16x18. I picked three up for $3 each. 😊❤

I’m thinking of making this bag as a cold/hot bag by either using Dollar Tree hot/cold bags or the car window shade reflector for lining
Great idea!
That's a great idea 💡☺️
I would use a Teflon foot to stitch over the lining. It will keep it flowing smoothly through the machine.
It's so dang cute when you make up the little song phrases!
