    I'm 77 and have sewn like this for YEARS... I sew every day in retirement and wish that more people would find the joy and peace that can come with crafting and quilting... TY for bring this to the foreground... I hope more young people find this and realize that "perfect" does not exist! Just have fun and grown with it!

    I go to a cancer appt each month and I notice most chemo patients carry a bag of stuff as they will be there for awhile. This would fit the bill to take socks, fleece lap cover, sweater, tablet, earbuds, water bottle etc. Sometimes backpacks put pressure on the wrong spot or are too hard to manipulate...a bag like this in a beautiful color or design...perfect. Make one, donate one. What a lovely gift! Thank you...glad I found your channel.

      You could sew velcro to be able to close it if needed. Or a button with a scrap material rolled or a tiny strap to hook around the button. I think it would be a great bag for a baby bottle diaper wipes for a quick trip to the store. What about a bag for a change of clothes for the park or toddler or child activity.

      I am new to your channel and happy to have found it. I have sewn for almost 50 years. I love your commentary as you sew. The information about needles and stitch length is seldom mentioned but can make such a difference in the end product. Another economical fabric source is old sheets or pillow cases for lining. Thanks for your time and willingness to share. If you are new to sewing or have been sewing for years, you can always learn new techniques and tips.😊

    Thank you for happily, crazily, joyfully being YOU!! I'm 77. Learned to sew when Mom put me on a bus to go 10 miles to Singer Sewing Store when I was 12. (1959). Won 1st place in school competition with the a-line dress I made.... cotton, dark chocolate background fabric, with tiny calico print pink roses, and Peter Pan collar & cuffs of happy pink waffled pique. I was 12. I'm 77, and in my mind, I can still see how pretty that dress was that I created!! Chelsea, I've not sewn for a few yrs. ADHD, & oh gee, whatever my brain has been tripping over that has me kinda stagnating, not creating, hoarding, piling up supplies, but not making anything.... YOU have ignited something in me that makes me want to clean off the tables, set up the sewing machine, cut out fabric & MAKE STUFF!! Wow. THANK YOU.

    I used to volunteer in my son's elementary school. Every year I would go to the 1st grade classes and teach them to sew pillows. We would use felt because it doesn't fray. I used blunt embroidery needles so no one gets hurt. The kids loved the project and began to be one of the most exciting days of the year. My own son was sewing with the machine by himself by the time he was 6. Sewing with kids is a life skill that is still taught in schools around the world sadly not in the USA. I highly recommend!

    You won me over when you said, "I iron, I don't press". I do the same. When you iron, you can block at the same time, and even out small variances. Yes I am a quilter, but I iron. Thanks for the tutorial.

    • @rainydaydiva6320
      @rainydaydiva6320 6 месяцев назад

      I iron my fabric also and my projects come out just fine. The only time I will press is if my quilt blocks have bias seams, gotta be careful with those bias seams. Everyone should just do what works for them, after all it’s supposed to be fun, and we shouldn’t worry about what others say about our desire to iron vs pressing. 😂

I knew I needed to make a bag, and this is it. I can put my glasses, phone, etc in it. Will make my life so much easier. And, my hubby won’t have to fetch everything for me. U are a born teacher. Just completed this bag using same dry mats . My grand kids school symbol is the bee. I’m a fairly new quilter and love to dabble in easy sewing projects to make gifts when I can. Only thing I changed was stitch length to 3.5 to get through the double layers of foam. U are amazing straight foward and building confidence. This also was a very forgiving project. Teachers are always lugging around tons of stuff. Will try to figure out how to send picture. Thank u C

    Hey Chelsea--actually, I prefer these long, slow, explain everything videos. Sometimes, I find that when a YTer who has been sewing for ages, shares their projects, because they have been sewing for so long they may inadvertently assume a viewer has skills that the viewer may not actually have. Even if one is a good sewist, it always helps (me anyway) to see how another sewist does things. Thank you for this video; very helpful.

    Thanks for your fun tutorials. You do a great job of teaching. One thing I noticed, as a longtime sewer, is I strongly recommend closing your rotary cutter when you set it down as you are focusing on beginner sewers. Once you’ve become accustomed to working with the cutter, then you probably won’t be as diligent, but as beginners probably aren’t aware of how sharp or how quickly you can be cut by them. Just a thought…

    OMGosh!! That bag is adorable. I have been sewing since I was 8 years old and I am now 68! This is one of the cutest projects I have seen in a long time!! You are so good at explaining what you are doing and a great encouraging force for women who are just starting to sew! I have always said that if you can sew you can do anything and bring out your own personality and style! I love this! Great job!

    THIS IS GREAT FOR GROCERY SHOPPING and will do well with the extra padding for cold goods.

    I learned to sew at 18. Mom said we are making a maternity outfit. I did and took off from there. The only thing I would change is add an interfacing in the handle for more stability. I have been sewing 50 years but never thought of dishdrying mats. This is so clever and you are a born teacher.❤

    Chelsea, Ive made two of these bags. When I go to Dollar tree and see new mats it’s like an addiction gots make another. So much fun with you. I’m new to sewing so your video was very nice to follow. Not into zippers yet they scare me. I would love to have more sew easy video’s to follow without zippers. I’ve been following for a little while now. Thank you so much and bring on some more

    I watched this right after you posted it and finally got to the 💲store today....I will be sewing up some bags tomorrow! Great video, very clever! Thanks...btw my grandmom bought me a Kenmore in 1979....I was 11 y.o. and not fully appreciative of this Wonderful gift...it basically sat for 40 years moving with me from house to house until I was brave enough to learn. I wish my grandmom knew how much I love sewing now! I make all my own clothes and tons of other goodies thanks to youtubers like you!
