    Good video Scotty! I agree on the screw clamps! The first time I sat on my dad's car's Fender while he was working on one it was a 1960 Rambler classic 4 door. One of the earliest lessons he taught me it was use those nice stainless steel screw clamps on hoses. It was either that or how to oil the centrifical Advance on the distributor! Yes I still remember how that works! That ramp looks classic ran like a top! It had the push-button transmission and Wing vents front and back! Dad taught me a lot of stuff about many different things not just cars. Dad was a jack of many trades and a master of the few. I was better at laying cinder block than he was though! He made his mortar too stiff.

    I know the squeeze clamps are hard to deal with but they are good clamps because lines shrink and expand and rot over time and the spring clamps can just keep squeezing tighter even if the hose starts to deteriorate a screw clamp is good but once the hose shrinks its loose just saying 🤔🤔

    • @InternetDude
      @InternetDude 5 лет назад +9

      Darrin8112 yep I’ve had small leaks over time when using stupid screw hose clamps. I now reuse the spring clamps whenever possible.

    • @rustyboltz2820
      @rustyboltz2820 5 лет назад +5

      Yea, I'm really wondering why Scotty decided to replace them with those screw clamps, I've used them before and most of them are made cheaply and rust or snap off over time. I have my original 22 year old Toyota 4Runner constant pressure hose clamps that I have taken off and put back on with a pair of pliers several times without any problems, they always have full tension and much thicker than the cheaper clamps. Not once have I ever had a hose leak with them, maybe the ford ones are crap.

    • @chrisfreemesser5707
      @chrisfreemesser5707 5 лет назад +6

      Spring clamps also put uniform pressure around the hose, while screw clamps create a pressure point at the screw housing. Even though they're not as versatile as a screw clamp, a spring clamp is the better choice

    • @DarthBagel
      @DarthBagel 5 лет назад +2

    One of the problems i have had on every single 90s GM i have owned is the pump for the AC having the clutch stop working. In at least 2 of them it was a relay issue because when i connected it temporarily to a switch it worked. They had plenty of pressure and no leaks, but the AC wasnt cooling.
    On an d Cavalier i sold it and showed the buyer why the AC wasn't working but was an easy fix and later i bought the car back and he had it still on the switch. Sure, the AC blew colder than hell but i don't think it was good.

    Spring clamps create uniform pressure around the hose and allow for hose shrinkage over time. If the proper spring clamp tool is used they are easy to work with. The other option is to use aircraft quality t-bolt clamps which provide uniform tension around the hose.

    Had a problem with mine when I first bought it. The TCV valve apparently was getting clogged by some beads leaking from a cylinder container in the system. I think it helped regulate moisture or something.
    It's working ever since. Thank God, knock on wood.
    That's why I was able to get mine for 5000 instead of 5700 bucks. They said it was a simple fuse, but my dad and I smelt that BS from a mile away.

    Spring clamps are superior on rubber hoses and similar connections because they apply even pressure. Worm gears will cause problems over time, especially if they are over-tightened.

    Keep the spring clamps. They apply constant, even pressure all around the hose, even when the hoses flex or shrink/expand over time

    Hi Scotty? Can I ask you a few questions about our suv?
    Our air conditioner button/switch is not working anymore. In fact we have to tap under the dash board area to get it to turn on. Is that safe?
    A few months ago the car kept turning off when we tried to go up hills. we eventually got the car services and changed the coils. But from the beginning the car’s muffler has a lot of smoke and we have to keep putting oil in the vehicle every week. That’s not normal. Why is the oil burning so much? There is no visible oil or coolant leaks?
    Yesterday we put some royal purple 10-30 oil in the car and it drove good. It even didn’t start smoking at first. But this morning the car shut off then we turned it back on a big puff of smoke came out the muffler. Then the car started driving normal again?

    Good ole boy mechanic I had in KY told me 20 years ago that he can find a leak on any car. He said he went to a seminar at a Ford dealer and during the break they went out in the showroom and found leaks on brand new cars. Some shady mechanics use these to sell a lot of expensive parts you don't need. Not everybody is honest like you Scotty.

    Top tip scotty. Those detectors are ok. But the best way to use them, if you know you have a leak but need to pinpoint it. Whack the heater on, and the a/c but stop the condenser fan running it will increase the pressure of the gas what's left in the system if there is any and you can bubble check it

      Also if you are in the UK. You cant fix it yourself as you can't handle refrigerant without your FGAS cert.

    Scotty, could you make a video about that buttery looking stuff inside the radiator expansion tank, or on an oil cap? My Opel definetly has some problems with the engine, and I would like to hear more about problems like this from you, because i'm afraid that it might be head gasket problem

  • @bikecommuter24

    Screw clamps I used those on my 1988 Toyota Tercel (Don't laugh it was given to me, okay you can laugh I did when I sold it) when I replaced the radiator and hoses. A mechanic umm Technician said I should use the spring ones he said Pat Goss talked about it , they supposedly exert even pressure where the screw clamps if over tighten can put pressure on one spot and with the radiators being plastic it can cause problems later.
    I've be using screw type clamps for years with no problems in fact I keep a few in my tool kits for my motorcycle and car.

    Just in case Scotty reads these comments: I am wondering what you think of the Lexus SC430 and if there are specific years to get or avoid, and if there is a limit to how much mileage I should stop at. My big concern is the wear and tear on the retractable roof.
    Thanks for answering if you see this.

    Ford Tech here. On those model year escapes the accumulators like to leak or plug up too. Theres a tsb for a poor design of the cowl drain that causes them to rot out along with the blower motor resistor. If you cant find a leak hook up a gauge and see if the high side is 250psi+. Hope this helps some people

    Hey Scotty, a friends got a clone of the escape (tribute 05) and keeps stalling while driving. Ran the scanner for codes....not a thing. IAC Valve sprayed out airbox and throttle system in working condition. Any ideas? Bogs down and stalls during drive between 30miles an hour and under, has to floor it to get past it.

    I've got a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid and my garage told me that the A/C condenser has a leak and needs to be replaced. Since it's a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid, the leak has negatively affected the MPG since the A/C is used to keep the hybrid battery running optimally in the 2009 model year. I was getting about 35MPG before and now I get about 30MPG. Can you tell me what the average cost should be to get a new A/C condenser installed ? Thanks!
