    The scene where Sunny comes on to Harry was inspired by the fuck-ton of fan-mail that Clint got from San Francisco's female Asian population (they apparently made up a huge percentage of the "Dirty Harry" fanbase). The actress who played her was Clint's real-life girlfriend.

      ***** True of all ideologues, even when there are facts they can use, it's safer to keep them dumb, but it' also sad when you get people that think they have facts, and rattle off a list of talking points, but its just repetition, they do no research themselves. They think they have the intellectual high ground. You see this in these comments sections, and it gets worse when they don't even bother to cite "facts" they where exposed to, they just claim facts debunk something and people should just agree with them. They are not even pseudo-intellectual, its just a reflexive objection.

    Thank you. Thank you. As a kid growing up in the UK during the 80's, The BBC would only show this late on a Saturday Night once a year. A strange ritual thus developed. For some bizarre reason, my parents would forego their usual draconian viewing policy and allow their nursery/primary school aged-son to watch this film unattended. Their I'd be, face barely six inches away from the crappy old telly, surrounded by junk food and carbionated soda bottles in my spider-man jimmies, in a state of rapture. Plot- and pacing-wise, "Magnum Force" might be the strongest Dirty Harry movie. Screenplay by a young John Milius.

  • @dirtnastyish
    @dirtnastyish 8 лет назад +90

    The .44 Magnum became so popular after Dirty Harry that there were people waiting months and months to get one. There's still a lot of them out there that have never been fired because a lot of the buyers just wanted to own the gun and didn't really care about shooting it. It's always funny to see one of those cannons casually fired one handed, but it's a movie so it's allowed to be awesome at the cost of realism.

    • @charlesvan13
      @charlesvan13 6 лет назад +9

      I think more powerful loads have better accuracy. You can fire 44 special rounds. But if he wanted to fire 44 special rounds there's no need for a 44 magnum.
      But a 44 magnum is generally not used by police. The 9mm is effective and doesn't have the eardrum shattering muzzle blast and recoil.

    • @edwardharriss1463

      Firing a 44 magnum would cause hearing damage to the shooter and anyone else there. The 44 mag is actually a big game hunting round. The police and military usually use 9mm pistols.

      ***** Suppressed shotguns actually exist and are practical, though I doubt they existed in the '80s when No Country For Old Men is set.
      Suppressing a revolver has been done but it is highly impractical, especially with a powerful revolver. There is a gap between the revolving cylinder and the barrel where blast escapes when fired. The Nagant M1895 is one of very few revolvers that can effectively use a suppressor, because of it's unusual gas seal system that presses the cylinder against the barrel when fired to prevent blast escaping.

    • @TMFlesh
      @TMFlesh 9 лет назад +2

      ***** Well unlike what is often shown in movies the purpose of silencers is not to make the gun so quiet that it is practically inaudible. The purpose of a silencer it to allow you to use a gun without ear protection and not damage your hearing. In general a silenced gun is still very loud and can still be heard from great distances.
      Of course this is the movies so high powered sniper rifles that make the sound of a pen drop for everyone!

  • @dakotasan8719

    I want to point out the sheer awesomeness that this movie displays Harry being significantly more intelligent in how he does things. When shooting (hehe) the shit with the vigilante cops, he asks to borrow one of their guns for a target shoot, he shoots at a pillar with said vigilante cop’s face on it. He comes back to grab the bullet for Ballistics, but it also was his way of saying “I’m onto you.”
    He also kills all the vigilante cops without firing a single shot

    The scene where the pimp kills the hooker by force feeding her draino is believed to have partially inspired a real life crime called The High-Fi Murders that happened in Provo Utah in the mid 1970's
    The killers went into an electronics store tied up all of the people(5 in total) in the store before raping the women torturing them all and forcing them all to drink draino before shooting them all in the face before stealing some electronics and leaving like nothing happened.
    Both were caught tried and sentenced to death, during their time on death row they were the most hated inmates on death row (Gary Gilmore reportedly stopped in front of each of their cells as he was being walked to the execution chamber and told them both "I'll see you in hell" before spitting in their faces).
    One (Dale Selby) was executed in 1987 and the other (William Andrews) got the hot shot in 1992.

    • @CountArtha
      @CountArtha 4 года назад +5

      Eastwood said he objected to the actual murder being shown. For one thing, it's _very_ exploitative with lots of glimpses down her cleavage or up her skirt while she's fighting for her life. Not cool. But also: in the morgue scene afterward, the coroner says "he poured Drano down her throat" and it's left to your imagination, which makes the previous scene unnecessary and probably hits the audience harder.

    And this by far is my favorite of the series.

    A fun review of an enjoyable feature that helped forge all the tropes we would later have as classic cliches.
    A friendly note to *****: Dirty Harry could only have invented the SF chase scene had Steve McQueen never existed.

    Awesome series so far Razorfist! This series kicks ass, I saw the entire collection at Walmart for like $7.50. Maybe I'll pick it up sometime.

    I watched this for the first time today. My interpretation is you're supposed to initially think McCoy is the culprit, and that will be the twist (he's frequently said to be crazy and bitter). Thus when two traffic cops come face to face in the building and McCoy is the one who GETS shot, I was more surprised than I have been by a twist in a long time. A double twist, I guess.
