When Dirty Harry month is over, we need a Sam Peckinpah month. One of most macho filmmaker out there. The wild bunch, Cross of Iron, Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia and more.
MacNille Actually none of his movies terribly impressed me. Not sure why. They were ok, but i don't get why for example the wild bunch has such an iconic status. The wild bunch was pretty tame compared to many spaghetti westerns and preceded it and it certainly doesn't have the class as Once upon a time in the west, Django or The good, the bad and the ugly. The Getaway was fun, but Osterman Weekend, Killer Elite or even Convoy ? If you want good movies have a look at John Carpenter's Escape from New York , Assault on Precinct 13 or The Thing.
MacNille I've seen most of his movies. For me personally they are rather mediocre.I mean they are mostly entertaining and not bad or anything, but especially with the Wild Bunch i was pretty much disappointed. The movie is ok, but in my opinion never lives up to the legendary hype that surrounds it to the slightest. It may have been quite brutal for a US western of 1968, but compared to some European Spaghetti Western that predated it, it doesn't seem that brutal to me. Actually i wouldn't have a problem my 7 year old son watching it. I'll take Django, Once upon a time in the west or any 60s or 70s Eastwood western any time over the wild bunch (except maybe for Paint your wagon). It seems, that his movies simply don't meet my taste. I'd be happy if i could enjoy them more. I personally feel that Walter Hill's work (up to lets say the mid 80s), which is imho somewhat comparable, is far far superior. He had one stroke of genius after another from 75 to 84. But that's probably simply my taste again.
Razorfist: Enforcer's the weakest installment of the franchise. Me: I'm sorry I couldn't hear you over the erection I used to pole vault to the nearest bargain bin; because, in 2020, I heard the male lead in a movie tell a feminist to shut up.
