In Japan, it’s a tradition to “detox” our room/house when the new year begins because we need to let go of, as well as clean, things from the past. Its not good to hold things from the past and in order to move forward in life it’s essential to sort out what’s really necessary. I actually enjoy sorting out my things and cleaning but I just never find the time and sometimes I don’t have the energy to do it haha
@@louds0ft593 you could try doing a certain category or location at a time or only! That way it would hopefully be easier, even if it takes more time or is done to a different end 😊

As someone who just went through a house fire, your sentimental items would definitely be an afterthought. While in a burning building, the only thing you’ll probably think of are your survival and getting any family members (including pets) out safely. Seriously. I was on the phone with a dispatcher, attempting to get my cat out from under a bed. Eventually, I had to close the bedroom door and leave my cat to get my teenage sister out of the house (even though I kept yelling for her to go outside). I had nothing but my phone. We didn’t even grab any shoes to wear. Luckily, everyone is alright, including my cat.
Kaylee Smith On May 10th, it’ll be exactly 1 year since the house fire. Leaving my cat inside was the worst feeling ever. He’s my entire world and I’m glad he’s fine. My sister sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns while I was trying to get my cat. She actually stopped the fire from spreading. Thanks for the concern over my baby!
Experienced house fire too and had a home filled with family heirlooms and could have cared less … and I’m really sentimental and love family treasures. My kids, cat, hubby and myself all safe and healthy. Didn’t loose the treasures but ended up decluttering over 70% of them after the fire because I realized they aren’t my treasures. My family is my treasure!
My older brother was in a house fire, too. He wasn't home, but his roommate was. The entire building saved everyone except 1 cat, which belonged to his roommate. He lost everything in the fire. I keep that in mind when I buy things. "Am I okay losing this in a fire? Will I grab this in a fire? Does this make me happy?"
last year i moved houses and everyone knows that's the best time to get rid of half of your items. i ended up throwing out all of my old drawings and now I regret it BUT this year I've been doing some reading on "how to get rid of sentimental things without getting rid of everything" and it gave me lots of (obvious) ideas I didnt think of before, like scanning (or taking pics of) photos or drawings and keeping it on your pc instead of having it taking up space. just sharing in case someone is in the same situation as i was hehe
I’ve rarely seen modern books make such an impact on the way we live our lives, the Kon Mari method is truly a game changer when it comes to living a healthier happier life and she totally gets that
Then for future be aware of this and only add things to your life that spark joy and slowly replace things that dont. Even if it takes forever you will eventually get there.

I literally started using the KonMari method yesterday starting with my clothes. This was so perfect and I'm going to continue tidying now. Thank you for the motivation! 💕
The house burning down tip was actually an eye opener! I get sentimentally attached to various objects at random so I have to thrown in logic and that tip was great. Thanks :)♡ I hope you're doing well on your journey~ cant wait to see more in this series!!
Thank you for the inspiration! What really helped me to declutter and re-evaluate my priorities is moving to a different country for studying. I felt sad leaving all the memorabilia behind, but in the end it’s good memories and experiences that matter and not physical objects.
hey krist, just wanted to say, don't throw away or the childhood sentimentals. i think its so great you kept so much from your childhood - i couldn't because i moved around a lot as a child and i threw away most of my childhood. i don't think i own anything over four years old. and i already regret it! because i know when im old, i won't be able to remember much of my younger years and won't have anything from those years. my advice is to keep your childhood things that mean something to you, keep it in boxes and store it for when you're old ;)

HI KRIST! I remember the konmari video in your other channel (krist soup) about three years ago? (Wow it’s been that long?) And by that time I was already subscribed to your channel for a quite some time. And I really just wanna say THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH for introducing that book to me!! I had a life changing experience watching that video that I never here. As I’m about to watch this video I am super excited for this series!! 💜 Love from Toronto 🇨🇦 💜 P.s you’re my favourite 💜🥺
Let me tell you, this was emotional for me . Since it is my senior year of highschool I guess I sort of hoarded things from school that would remind me of the great times I've had , I also realized I kept a lot of my exes clothes. For me to finally get rid of it all , it's sad but theres a feeling of acceptance and relief . Thank you so much for this video it really helped me out
My ideea for how to keep all those wrappers, photos and other memories: glue them in a journal. That way you would have all of them in one place and it would not take much space. You could even write down the year every one of them is from. I noticed my problem of having too much stuff when I had to move for uni in a new city. I took everything I needed with me but I still had a lot of stuff at home so I got rid of most it. Lots of love from Romania xo
I believe that taking everything out of your closet at once can be quite overwhelming for some people. Rather than doing that I would recommend taking out one category at a time (for example all dresses), sort through that and put it aside. Then move on to another category. After everything will be sorted out you can put back the items that you chose to keep.
I really appreciate the details you share in this video about your process! i saw your first video a couple years ago which was very inspiring at a time when i felt like actually doing the KonMari method was impossible. After watching the Netflix series and hearing about your process, I am finally getting more clarity around how to know when something sparks joy!! Thank you!!

I wish everyone will watch the show and learn because life became so much easier and I feel like people are missing out! You've said everything right, I got these feelings. It looks easy watching it and me being like: oh what is wrong with them it's trash throw it (and they be crying over it). I have the worst emotions going through that as well and god it's freakin HARD TO DO. After I finished my room I visited my old childhood friend and I started teaching her and we started working the konmari method in her room too hahaha I'm so proud of her.
To be fair I still kept a lot of sentimental items and I wrote about the ones I threw away. I moved old school notes to my office space and designated them as references materials. I kept the old books I read as a child and for some reason couldn’t let go but decided to store them in a shelf that I could open later (when I might have kids or the future entertainment center I’d make). These items had a plan and would not be forgotten. Also I love the box at the end. What a great way to repurpose items!

I have to move, and cleans my tiny apartment of 10 years of collected stuff. This really helps. Thank you. Also whenever you say "komono" - I know what it means. :) - I hear "kimono," because I am a kimono collector, and studied the art of kitsuke for a while. Going through all the kimono I own took me an entire day. I ended up getting rid of half of what I have and sending it to other kimono collectors in a group I'm in. I kept only the ones that gave me joy.
i actually had your original konmari video in my watch later, and when it disappeared i was like D: oh no where'd it go? i just love your style of video and particularly that one was one that i was sitting on bc i need to detox my possessions. i'm glad you're making a whole series now :D
I actually bought that book because of you and it really does help! I would say i have alot of stuff so these type of videos do get me into the right mind to reorganise✨🌟thanks
I gotta say what really helped me declutter my clothes was first, doing an initial pair down of everything. I had so much stuff i haven't worn since high school that i was going to get rid of and it made it so much less daunting when the rest was piled up.
The hands down easiest one is sentimental items for me bcs i love change and leaving the old behind I value more who I am today and who I wanna become tommorrow. I also had a very rough childhood and teenage years so I wrote texts and songs and had a lot of stuff that showed me how miserable I felt during those times and one day I threw them out and felt the instant relief. Out of sight out of mind rly. I have a very tiny amount that 100% sparks joy and that's all I need. One thing I love tho are photos and i think you could take fotos of those nostalgic items you used to love and so 20-30 years later you can open them and look at them and remember wich is what the item actually does. It makes you remember the past, the joyfull moments in life.

omg thank you so much for doing this video. i am actually thinking of decluttering my space right now and getting rid of the unwanted stuffs. i have tons of stuff i need to get rid of but couldn't because i was attached to them... i have tons of books but i know i can't get rid of them because I'm a bookworm but the part that i really need to work on is getting rid of the sentimental items... I'm like you too, a sentimental person but I'm gonna work on letting things go. thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm looking forward to the other parts of the series. all my love. 💙💙💙
I cleaned out my sentimental items in stages. When i first did the konmari method a few years ago, i removed some sentimentla items that where not longer sentimental; over the years when i check my box to remmeber and such, everytime i remove bits of it bc the items don't mean anything now, and is ok
Your charm box is so cute! Awesome idea. I have a few charms from my childhood I just won't get rid of and trying to think of a good way to display them because they do spark joy :3

when doing your clothing ask yourself these questions:
#1 does this fit me
#2 would i still wear this
#3 will this fit me next summer (you ask urself this if your in the winter or if its summer u ask if u will fit it next winter)
#4 do i actually wear this or do i keep it because i feel pressured to keep it
also when your doing clothing and u want ur closet to look nice then do these steps
#1 put aesthetic (when i say aesthetic i mean pick your faveorite clothing that matches colors from the othwr stuff u choose) clothing u like hang it and put the rest in your shelves
#2 keep your hangers matching! if non of them match just put them in color order but at target they cost $1 for i think 20 hangers
#3 put your clothing hamper in the back -unlessitsemptey-
#4 if u dont like people seeing your closet try to get into the habbet of closing it everytime u leave it
if u have a hard time getting rid of decor ask these questions:
#1 does this match my aesthetic?
#2 does this match my room theme
#3 do i usually hide it away or not?
#4 would i actualy put this somewhere

Going through all the kimono I own took me an entire day. I ended up getting rid of half of what I have and sending it to other kimono collectors in a group I'm in. I kept only the ones that gave me joy.
i actually had your original konmari video in my watch later, and when it disappeared i was like D: oh no where'd it go? i just love your style of video and particularly that one was one that i was sitting on bc i need to detox my possessions. i'm glad you're making a whole series now :D
I actually bought that book because of you and it really does help! I would say i have alot of stuff so these type of videos do get me into the right mind to reorganise✨🌟thanks
still my favorite youtuber 💘
*picks up school uniform* this does not spark joy *throws away*
Lol same
I saw a holo wallet in your sentimental items which was from the girl date video where you went to get your nails done a long time ago❤️❤️
OH MY GODD WE MISSED YU SO MUCHHHH
YOU'RE A VITAMIN FOR ALL OF US
THANK YU SO MUCH 💜💜💜💜 LOVE YU
omg thank you so much for doing this video. i am actually thinking of decluttering my space right now and getting rid of the unwanted stuffs. i have tons of stuff i need to get rid of but couldn't because i was attached to them... i have tons of books but i know i can't get rid of them because I'm a bookworm but the part that i really need to work on is getting rid of the sentimental items... I'm like you too, a sentimental person but I'm gonna work on letting things go. thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm looking forward to the other parts of the series. all my love. 💙💙💙
i love how "clean" your videos are!!! i feel relaxedd
Yay
HAHA, idk why your comment made me laugh. 😄
I cleaned out my sentimental items in stages. When i first did the konmari method a few years ago, i removed some sentimentla items that where not longer sentimental; over the years when i check my box to remmeber and such, everytime i remove bits of it bc the items don't mean anything now, and is ok
omg krist I JUST watched an episode of the KonMari series on netflix and here you are with a Decluttering video using the KonMari method!
Literally same haha
"develop those muscles of discernment"- great phrase
Love the idea of a life journal! Would love to see you do a video on that!
Your charm box is so cute! Awesome idea. I have a few charms from my childhood I just won't get rid of and trying to think of a good way to display them because they do spark joy :3
loved that idea with the charms in the end!
You look so much more older and wiser than in the room decor video I watched yesterday...
You knida remind me of lavendaire, but without purple hair.
I love that people are starting to think about conscious consumerism. The environment is in desperate need of it!
LOVE THIS! I just recently tried the konmari method and posted a video on my channel. It’s helped so much. Great video!
krist is back !!!!!
krist uploaded! yESS
Finished watching the series earlier today and I was so sad to not have anymore more tidying content so this video is perfect!
It's nice to see you develop as a person
lettuce begin
okay this is what i needed, i'm gonna go tidy up now, thank you for this new motivation x
I always need your videos honestly
For sentimental items I recommend scanning them (if possible)! That way it doesn’t occupy space, but you still have access to them
I loooove this new series! actually started to clean my clothes!
I truly love these series ♡ please do a "mental detox" video, love you from Venezuela ♡
This was super inspiring! I love your style and calm demeanor that you seem to carry with you:)
Can’t wait for the rest of the series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
if i got rid of everything that doesn’t spark joy i would be left with nothing lmao
Marie Kondo changed my life for the better 💕
