I received my Avata 2 days ago. 1 concern you had was if the little door to the pops loose and runs into the fan and will do all sorts of havoc. I forgot to put mine back in after installing my SSD card and all that happened was it made some noise and then when the door cleared the blades it just hung down below the spinning blades and created a couple little scuff marks on the blades themselves. Believe it or not, there was no damage at all. Nothing was broken and everything was fine. I removed the blade to check it and just cleaned it with a cloth and it looked just like new. I have eaten a couple tree leaves and some grass in a turn over and turtle mode is amazing! Avata does an amazing job cutting grass! It is an amazing drone. I am sad to say, that every other drone I have ever bought, comes with a manual controller and in worse case scenario at least includes a case to put everything inside. DJI jacking us all for a tiny back pack for $130 bucks is pretty crazy, but when you realize it is the same cost as each stupid battery I guess it isn't so bad? I been debating to get either this case and wait for the hard case to be available in a couple months and just use one of my backpacks to keep the drone in. Also, found I had to provide additional cables to the drone if I want to charge the drone battery, motion controller and goggle batteries. Like so many others that don't have the normal controller and having to wait for more to be released. 60 mph in manual mode is pretty sweet. It may not do 90 mph like some other FPV drones, but it has an amazing camera and the battery lasts so much longer than the other battery pack you were comparing it to. I totally agree with cost. Why can I not just buy a sweet Master controller for $200 bucks and use that for all my future DJI drones.

DJI drones are designed for beginners. For this reason they make their products to only work with what is included in the box. They do this so that users don't mix and match items and cause an issue.

You can actually block the touch pad by holding 2 fingers for 4 seconds i think and to unblock it you do the same procedure, so you can't accidentally change the settings if you block it 😉
Ahhh, but that was not the point mentioned. You see when you were created you ended up with eyes in your head and not your fingers so when you try the touchpad you can’t see exactly where your fingers are touching so your gonna accidentally hit options you don’t want when you trying to select something.

Steve, the linking...once the goggles v2 and the remote are linked to the avata, if I go fly the fpv drone instead of the avata, will it all automatically connect or will one have to re link everything when switching between the dji fpv and the avata?
Man, I'm loving all the content lately Steve. Keep it coming!lol. This is another one to contemplate. I'm still thinking about the one from last week or the week before. Anyways great stuff as always.
Does this drone take pictures downwards at 90°, and its pictures carry information of geographic coordinates like latitude and longitude and also height like the mini 2?
The difference between the other reviewers and you is that they get their drone for free or are paid to do the review, and you bought yours with your money. That’s how I just found out about the noise level and the SD card placement. Thank you captain drone! I have the original DJI FPV and I think it is way better, not to mention way faster at nearly 90 mph.

Good question. If you only use the beginner motion controller to fly then you double tap the red button and the drone will rise up to just over a meter.
In the manual mode You can just take off if you want. If you want to do its auto lift off. You press lock twice and wait for the motors to start up. When it is ready it will ask you to press and hold lock button and it will take off and hover about 3' in the air.
I’ve got it, using the motion controller-did some DJI virtual flight training-but the frustration comes from plugging into the app or desktop app. Registration was smooth (of course, DJI’s bread and butter), but firmware updates not so much. Let’s just say that you need a lot of sources of information, a lot of patience, and tease out what is a ‘glossed over’ set of steps versus a true 1,2,3 for success. I’m not exempting DJI itself from this. Forget the paper, get the PDF user manuals. Watch their videos. Go through their training with the DJI Virtual Flight app (nevermind it hangs, and cannot get past the ‘mode’ button training for the remote), and then come to RUclips and detailed setup and walkthroughs of the decices, apps, and menus. There is a LOT here for a ‘beginner’ drone, the good doctor’s very helpful aids notwithstanding. 3 days in and I’m not yet past an indoor hover and land. And my wife, too, said, ‘what’s all that racket!?’. Beginner? You’re NOT going to turn on this $1200 toy and fly it right away. It will take some time.
A question about the DJI bag you have. Could you get a Avata, goggles, controller and a mini 3 Pro and controller in it? I'm looking for a bag to get mini 3 pro and Avata in for day trips.
Great video. From my understanding, RTH is more accurate if you take off vertically for 5 meters. That should allow the drone to recognize the take off Mat. Not sure if it’s same with fpv drone though?
David, that feature only existed about 7 years ago and never since. It was designed for beginners who would take off using the auto take off option. If you think your drone has it, just do your thing and then move the landing pad 5 feet and see if it finds it… it won’t.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks for your reply, I meant comparing the original DJI FPV drone vs the new DJI Avata, as there are some significant discounts right now on the DJI FPV drone. And the avata only comes with the motion controller :(
@@iangrima697 it is rare that anyone can learn to fly FPV in manual mode with the DJI FPV, but on the Avata they could. So, as a newbie, if you get the DJI FPV drone you’ll pretty much stick to GPS normal mode and GPS Sport mode. So far I have not met anyone who started from scratch that could transition to Manual mode without crashing.
Nice review, Steve. I'm an experienced FPV guy and I never wanted to spend the bucks for the DJI FPV drone. The Avata looks to be a winner and I may have to get one in the near future. I hate the sound of the pusher drones but they are easy peasy to fly. Looking forward to Part 2.
Reviews are always good, very thorough. I hope you will use the motion controller in a future review, as a camera drone pilot I would like to know how easy it is to fly with the motion controller out of the box.
For someone who is new to flying drones, like really new. Interested in learning more of Cinewhoop style and also maybe some freestyle. Would this be something to look into or would there be something else / better that you would recommend? I will be practicing in the simulators first but wanted to have a goal of a drone to look at to accomplish the styles I am more interested in.
Who said fantastic? What was commented on was the successful use of a feature that was not part of the maiden flight demonstration. You know Titanic, Teslas truck and Elon musk breaking the window, etc. Demonstrations, maiden flights don’t always go well!
Of course it will turtle easy, there's 2" of battery between the props and the grass, and it's a pusher. It will probably be more problematic landing upward on grass.
Thank you as always for you honest reviews. I’m still on the fence on buying this. The noise and the motion controller are my big concerns. I’m waiting for the bundle with the Dji controller 2 that will hopefully be coming…Are the new goggles compatible with the previous Dji FPV drone?
I guess it is similar but it is heavier so power management is designed for it. If you fly full throttle, your flight time is around 6 minutes on the AVATA. If it were lighter, the flight time would be longer. On the cinelog35, if you use a naked camera, you'd get a great flight time.
If you are a BEGINNER and fly in NORMAL or SPORT mode you can get 15 minutes flight time. If you are a Pro FPV pilot, you'll get around 6 minutes of flight time.
Don’t all fans have to take air from above and drive it underneath? So, why is there a distinction. Pusher vs. ? I’ll be giving the Avata a miss myself. Good vid.
If you're in the hobby, it makes sense.... It is like a PLANE with the WING on the Top or WING on the bottom... It's a WING right, and it provides lift to the normal human looking at it, but there is a massive difference in flight abilities.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Interesting. Using the analogy of the high or low wing, ie., the difference is where the fuselage is, in relation to the wing or vice versa. Both wings generate lift in the same way. So I guess, maybe you mean if the wing is under the fuzz it’s a pusher? So the craft is being pushed up. If the wing is above the fuzz it’s a what? Lifter? I’m relatively new to drones, so some of the terminology I may not be up to speed on. I understand the pusher/puller terminology in relation to placement of the motor in fixed-wing craft, which I guess can be extrapolated to drones. Thanks for the explanation.

I got a new skateboard electric never been on it work 1500 when I got it like 3 years ogo
Thank you Paul... Part 2 is out tomorrow.
Wow cool drone
Awesome review, by any chance they have any AV in port? I was thinking if in future we could use analog adaptor to it
Nothing yet for the DJI FPV Goggles 2, but it does exist for the DJI FPV Goggles V1 & V2
Reviews are always good, very thorough. I hope you will use the motion controller in a future review, as a camera drone pilot I would like to know how easy it is to fly with the motion controller out of the box.
Part 2 has motion controller and head tracking
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 good to know thank you for your reply.
My thoughts exactly 1. I just dropped over $2000 on this and it didn’t come with a way to charge the batteries 2. This thing is loud!
So if I own the DJI v2 I could purchase the avata and bond it ?
Yes, V2 goggles work with the Avata.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank
I'm still waiting for the DJI STORE to ship mine. I ordered it 5 days after 62nd Bday Aug 23rd so the 28th till now it still has not shipped :(
It looked like you were not wearing your glasses with the goggles on. How was your sight?
The Goggles have diopters.... no glasses required. You just select your focus point.
This is a BEGINNER drone designed to be flown DAY 1, so this is the one to get.
Super my friend 👍👌 I want One 😉
I enjoyed this honest review and an eye opening for me. Thank you good sir
My pleasure!
It’s a nice pusher style drone with good battery life, great range and penetration, oh and yes, it is a screamer lol 😆
DJI is going to want to use your turtle mode recovery video. That was very 😎 cool indeed. When my Avata arrives I will try manual mode.🤦🏻♂️
Why is turtle mode on a DJI so fantastic? All normal drones has had turtle mode for years...
Who said fantastic? What was commented on was the successful use of a feature that was not part of the maiden flight demonstration.
You know Titanic, Teslas truck and Elon musk breaking the window, etc. Demonstrations, maiden flights don’t always go well!
@@irgtk Ok so let me rephrase....Why is turtle mode on a DJI so cool? All normal drones has had turtle mode for years...
nice!
Really cool channel enjoy the week
Thanks, you too!
Nice drone great information
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Steve, great initial review!! The noise from the Avata will bring out every Karen in a 1/2 mile radius. lol
Ken and Karen coming out shaking their fingers at you.
Currently, the new goggles are not compatible with anything other than the AVATA.
Honest review, like always! Thanks
Nice review Steve, but i have interest in any FPV drone. However love my GPS drones.
Great review I'll get the avata drone and extra battery. I like you honest review help me decide!!
Thank you kindly! Enjoy!
Honest review 👍
Was waiting for your review
Very good review, I think I ll be liking my walksnail more.thx
Hello! great video. Can you make a part highlighting head tracking mode? That looks like the future of fpv. Cheers from LA. Frank
Thanks Steve
Where's the unboxing part?
There is really not much in the boxes.
I love old nerds. They are so refined nerds that they are cool.
Awesome review Captain👍..how is the power compare to cinelog35 performance?
I guess it is similar but it is heavier so power management is designed for it. If you fly full throttle, your flight time is around 6 minutes on the AVATA. If it were lighter, the flight time would be longer. On the cinelog35, if you use a naked camera, you'd get a great flight time.
thanks for the information Captain🙏
sir, how many minutes flight time for this avata?
I tend to get 12 or 13 min
If you are a BEGINNER and fly in NORMAL or SPORT mode you can get 15 minutes flight time. If you are a Pro FPV pilot, you'll get around 6 minutes of flight time.
Nice review, the turtle mode was impressive! 💯Glad i spent my money with the GEPRC CineLog 35 instead! Thanks.
