Great review. As an owner of the FPV and the soon to be delivered Avata, what you didn't really push is the portability for videography. Throwing this in a backpack for hiking, biking, skiing, etc. is a major selling feature for me.
There is just no carting that thing around in a practical way. I've been getting around much more on an ebike and I'm confident I can bring the Avata even out and about on that
@@Tensentities It's more that when I go out with my gear, I'm also taking my mirrorless body/some lenses etc. I can comfortably easily get around with a bag with a few lenses, a tripod and mini 3 pro but with FPV I could only really take it and forgo everything else
The FPV camera isn’t as bad as everyone claims. Shooting in d-cinelike allows for color grading and pulling detail from the shadows in post while also using nd filters allows for reducing overexposure and getting motion blur if so desired. The lower resolution is unnoticeable on a cell phone screen which is where 99% of viewers will watch the footage. This is my humble opinion…
@@billykyle on the computer monitor yes, but on a mobile device…it’s not noticeable. Many are just too harsh on the FPV’s camera I feel…That’s the only point I was offering.
I agree with you on this. Overall I feel the camera is great for high-speed video capture. I also got a Mini 2 for when I want higher detail/slower cinematic scenes. Almost like the age old saying, there is a tool for every job. That being said, of course the Avata camera is better and wish it was used on the FPV drone too haha.
I think the problem is people don't know how to colour grade. D-cini is perfectly fine. Don't bother with a GoPro just take a few hours to learn how to colour grade the footage
Quick heads up - the specs for the cameras that I put on the screen at 9:12 are flip flopped! Sorry about that, but the labels for all of the footage is correct.

I agree with your assessment between the Avata and DJI FPV 100%. The Avata is the most fun I have had with a drone in a long time. I am flying with my FPV goggles V2 and controller 2. I have had many bumps and small crashes with the Avata and it is surprisingly durable, most of the time it bounces off drunkenly and then just keeps flying without having gone down. I feel far more confident flying the Avata fast and close in to the scenery. I also think the Avata in normal or spot mode is far easier to fly than a traditional cinawoop, It is definitely a great drone for beginners or experienced FPV flyers.
I've got both, the FPV does not allow any mistakes in manual mode after a year of experience on it, all it takes is a split second to destroy it and everything on its way. The avata in acro mode gave mixed results (I know it's a cinewhoop) with propellers turning into dust instantly. On the other hand the thing can handle a 250m high dead drop from the sky without much damage. If you never flew fpv start with the Avata and many, many many hours in a simulator software. DJi FPV's are selling for $390 on eBay those days without googles or controller.
Avata for me: - Googles 2 (diopter!, smaller, lighter..) - better camera + rocksteady 2.0/horizonsteady - prop guards - motion controller - 50% smaller/lighter - cinematic capability Speed is not that important for me...which I see as the only benefit of owning a FPV drone. Besides it is just too intimidating. Really too bad that Avata is not a sub 250g...but one can dream though:) With Avata, DJI literally brought two worlds together (FPV and cinematic world) which was unheard of till now. The fun factor of Avata is insane..I am not a professional but I have owned Spark, Mavic Air (1st gen), Mavic 2 Zoom and now I'm wanting Avata to squeeze the fun factor out of my flying which is the main reason why I love drones so much...
I want to also address something else that I have seen no one else address. The cost. The Avata in all FPV combos costs more than the FPV. The FPV BNF kit costs $1000 new, while the cheapest BNF kit for the Avata costs over $1100, and you don't even get the regular RC at the top end kit. It's also worth noting that the Goggles 2 are currently not compatible with existing DJI air units for other FPV drones. This means if you buy an Avata, you must make the choice to either forego the head tracking feature or forego the compatibility with existing Air Units. In my opinion, if you are just getting into FPV, go with the FPV, don't spring for the Avata. It's cheaper, you get a closer to standard RC, and you can jump to other digital drones. If you are either already flying an FPV or you are looking to use a drone for filming purposes, buy the Avata, but even then the FPV will suffice. 99% of people are not filming movies, instead producing simple content. High end phones have only just gotten to 12 MP cameras, and everyone agrees they look great. Most people also consume media on their phones. They will not be able to tell the difference between 48 MP and 12 MP. The Avata's main one up is it's small size that allow it to fly indoors and around people easily.
I've played flying games all my life, and the motion of the controller has come very easy to me for both regular drone flying and FPV. I can rip pretty hard on FPV sims and generally have no real issues but I get in my head way too hard with ta fragile $1400 ($AUD) FPV drone. I never want to take any risks with it and fly very conservatively which doesn't result in the killer shots. It's such a fragile design and unlike the DIY FPV systems it's usually a headache to fix anything more than a prop breaking & due to this I find myself barely using it & certainly not to it's real potential. Ordered the Avata knowing a cinewhoop (that doesn't require a gopro strapped to it for anything decent) is actually what I wanted from the DJI FPV
I think it's important to mention that the Avata cannot fly in manual mode out of the box since DJI doesn't offer a combo that comes with the controller. The motion controller is all you can get. The regular controller is sold separately and out of stock more often than not. So, for $1400, sport mode is the best you can get.
Great video and review. I had been about to pull the trigger on the FPV when the Avata hit the market so I have been doing a TON of research and watching videos like yours. You nailed it and broke things down really concisely.

Great review Billy! I already had the DJI FPV, but I ordered the Avata mainly for travel considerations (same reason I have a Mavic2 Pro & Zoom, along with a Mini for travel). I can now take both the Mini & Avata (with the smaller goggles 2) and easily fit into my overhead backpack for airline flights! Thanks!
Thanks Billy for your comprehensive analysis of the differences between these two products. I own the FPV and love flying it. My skills aren't to the level to gamble it's life buzzing garages or parking structures but that's not how I use it. It's just a blast to haul ass past trees, along rivers or lakes, dive bomb interesting places, and rip around other Open Area obstacles. However, the Avata does have it's advantages. Since the V2 FPV goggles will work with the Avata (thanks for that tidbit), and I already use the Motion Controller, It's now on my radar to own one. Thanks again!
Your flight footage quality is the best I’ve seen yet and I’ve watched every Avata video possible since the release, so I don’t know what your doing differently over there but you may just need to make a video on that alone. 👍
The big deal of Goggles 2 is the diopter going to +8 for people with glasses like me. That opens it up to another whole audience which includes many of us older guys who fly drones. (You'll find out when you hit 40 Billy =p)
Finally someone who covered the vertical speed part. Watching everyone's reviews and first impressions, no one mentions anything about the Avata's ability to fly freely around, and even the ones who made videos "preparing" a dive have never shown one. 13.5 mph vertical speed limit explains it, and it heavily limits the drone's capabilities for FPV. As a cinewhoop it looks great, but it really shouldn't be called an FPV drone, like, at all!
It's literally a First Person View (FPV) drone, though, so the name fits the definition. It's just not on par speed-wise to the DJI FPV and a lot of home-built FPV drones. FPV drones don't require a certain speed to be classified as FPV. Are they generally faster than a typical Quad? Absolutely. But, even that's not technically a requirement.
Considering the Avata doesn’t come with the remote to go into acro mode it seems like it’s worth getting the first FPV and then getting the Avata by itself since you have the set
I have the Avada coming. I agree that I am much more careful with the FPV. I look forward to being a bit less nervous when flying the Avada. I have flown lots of FPV drones made of carbon fiber. While neither of these will take the beating of a vortex 150. The flight experience with a high resolution FPV goggles and the video output potential makes the DJI solutions the first choice on most travel outings.
I just wanted to thank you for making short, concise, to the point videos. Too many other sites blabber on about stuff that is irrelevant. Totally agree, I find biggest limitation is worrying about crashes bc it is sooo delicate. So shots you can get with Avata would be dicey potentially for DJI FPV drone.

Great review. thanks. I lost an FPV when it lost contact 15 feet below me as I was flying under a bridge. I replaced it immediately as I wanted the thrill it gave me when flying. I’m no expert and have never had an issue with the video quality from the FPV. I can’t see a reason to upgrade as the pluses just don’t make enough difference. If I lost my FPV again for whatever reason I probably still would replace with another FPV for one reason. I own 5 batteries which are not compatible with anything and cost a fortune along with the case etc etc. if I was starting from scratch? FPV every time.
Very good information as always Billy. I'm waiting now on my Avata. I really like how you can fly it, where you can fly it, with now worries, for the up most.
Thank you for this video. Been trying to get a honest comparisons on both FPV's. I've been flying DJI products for years and want to start getting into FPV. Was debating on these and it's going to be the Avata. Thanks.
Looking at those on the table makes you realize the obvious next step would be for DJI to release a larger cine- style drone to fill the gap between the three but for now looking very much forward to flying the Avata.
A prop guarded drone was niche until someone adopted it and stuck a camera on top of it that was the beginnings of where we currently are. It was smaller and flew for a much shorter time and then they became larger and flew longer.
This video is very helpful. I been looking at purchasing one or the other of these to drones. This has helped me out a lot with the decision making process. I am still on the fence, but I am leaning more to the Avata. I have never owned a drone before, but I am excited to own one or the other of these of these two. I am leaning towards the Avata.
I guess I have to admit that I'm some what of a DJI fan boy. I have two Phantom's, an Air 2s with rc pro, also own the FPV drone, and now I will just have to add this one to my collection. I also have and fly other fpv drones as well. As a single guy who indulges in my hobbies where else would I spend my money. It's a lot cheaper hobby that being a hot rod car buff , or owning my own plane, so yeah I will have to pick one up just because you can never own too many drones....lol Thanks Billy. Cheers.😁

I bought the first FPV because of its speed and ease of use, I bought the new one for the goggles these new goggles are fantastic. I hope DJI doesn’t screw us over again by not making the new goggles compatible with more of their drones
I got both. Since I already had the fpv I purchased the Avata NO RC standalone. I'm cool with keeping the old goggles for now. Most people say they're more comfortable than the new ones anyway. I eventually want the head tracking though
That's why there must be a "DJI Mavic 3S" coming soon. I'm happy that I and many others here aren´t "Mavic 3" B-testers but will get the "real deal" without GPS and horizontal problems plus with a telezoom that is actually usable (1 inch sensor).
Aug 12 2024, just watched this again, I did it ass backwards, been flying the avata in m mode for 15 months and just ordered a new FPV drone before there all gone. Going to be interesting to see the difference .
The older goggles give double the transmission distance on CE models . So 1 km or 2 km with older goggles which are compatible . The specs for up to range is the FCC models which manage close to advertised range , unlike how they claimed up to 10 miles on the box . This is only on FCC North American and Canadian dji drones
Perfect vid for helping me make a decision. I fly the mavic 2 Pro for work and have a first gen Mavic and am looking to get into FPV. I want a prebuilt as my first FPV drone maybe build one once I get familiar with the different flight system and controls.
First drone.. And I'm going for DJI FPV MAIN REASON BEING Avata has alot of bugs... I don't own one but there's a ton of avata crashing... And also no controller in the package is a bummer also my goal is to film cinematic shots like mountains and all.. Which avata would make no sense..
I just bought the FPV because of the price drop. I’ve got no desire ( at least for now ) to do bat sh_t crazy stunt flying with it but more so for just a better “feel” or experience of flight. I might buy the Avata in the future just because I can use my existing goggles and controllers with it. Real informative video, thanks for posting it and, how much coffee did you drink before you made this ? 😁
DJI should have introduced the Avata first. Flying the DJI FPV first made me expect more out of the Avata and I was very disappointed especially its lack of power/thrust.
If DJI would release the API that might be possible along with autonomous flight modes, or at least a way to use waypoints and autonomous flight modes with the normal controller and phone attached to the goggles. It would truly be a swiss army knife of drones then.
Quite an in depth comparative video of between the DJI FPV drone and the new DJI Avata cine whoop FPV Drone Billy. I would like to see DJI make the Avata, FPV Drone compatible with the RC Pro transmitter similar to hobby grade RC helicopters, airplanes, FPV drones, cars and boats. I appreciate the convenience of having one high-end transmitter for my helicopter and airplanes and another high-end ground transmitter for my competition 1/10th scale off-road buggies and on-road touring cars.
I don’t own the DJI FPV drone, but from what I’ve seen so far I would choose the Avata over it, as my first FPV drone. Great comparison Billy, and thanks for sharing.
@@Marcus2750-u1t Yeah, not really. He can form his opinion based on what other people have showcased and said about these drones. Owning one just shows if these statements are true or not. To me, it is quite absurd to call it ignorant, but hey, you do you my friend!
Looks like you found another tool for your real estate photography business. Flying through the house was awesome. I think many professionals will use the Avata to get footage they could not capture with their main drone. I think the FPV is for adrenaline junkies and the Avata is for those looking to expand their aerial cinematography....
I use a Insta360 One X2 to film OneWheel content. I was about to blow $500 on the Insta360 X3 then I decided that the money would be better spent on a DJI drone. I know I can't use FPV safely while Onewheeling, even if I was attempting 3rd person view over my shoulder. Any amount of lag or delay would hinder my ability to perform obstacle avoidance (on my OneWheel) which could result in injury or death. In which case :Active Track" at 10-20mph should work just fine, if of course the Avata or FPV Drone has that feature.
Hi there , to anyone who own Avata , I would like to ask does it come with “FOLLOW ME” mode ? I currently have mini 2 and I can have my drone to follow me when I’m running . Since Avata is FPV require goggle to control Everytime. Are there any way to turn on Follow Me mode ? Thx for all helping ❤❤❤❤❤
No it’s not a upgrades it’s a whole mother tool for film making not fpv. The concept for dji fpv was fast pace, the chase outdoors. The Avata, is a cinewhoop indoors, close to people. Film making tools not freestyle or race quads

Congratulations 🎊 👏 🎊 You won a Drone. I hope you like your prize and thank You for commenting
Good luck 👊Quick inbox 📥 for it 👍👆👆🏅🏅.........
I wanted to put the Gopro on the drone but I rocked the normal camera the whole time doing my Video and I loved the quality
Fantastic comparison, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
I've been waiting for an FPV drone like the Avada so I'm definitely going to get one.
Gonna wait for the 3D version, my credit card is ready
Thank you for this video. Been trying to get a honest comparisons on both FPV's. I've been flying DJI products for years and want to start getting into FPV. Was debating on these and it's going to be the Avata. Thanks.
Look at the fpv closely man cause I have way more fun with my fpv then avata…… its a more capable drone PERIOD
Good video... See you on the next one...
Looking at those on the table makes you realize the obvious next step would be for DJI to release a larger cine- style drone to fill the gap between the three but for now looking very much forward to flying the Avata.
I don't think so. It'll be un upgrade of the DJI fpv. A bigger drone for cine is a niche and few people wil buy it.
The FPV is way more fun, I own both and the fpv is faster and doing 100 a thousand feet up is FUN!
@@Marcus2750-u1tsound fun, everyone says it’s not durable, but it really is. Look at the thickness of the arms
Yep Yep..just what I needed.
You forgot to mention the high pitched LOUD noise coming from the avata. U will hear it before seeing it.
Buddy it's amazing how you manage to give so many information in this timeframe!!!
Cheers.😁
The specs you listed are backwards, I wish the fpv had 48 mp lol…… I may try when the camera only setup is out soon.
Hi.
Camera specs are swapped around in the side by side comparison.
Good video btw.
Was wondering this
Amazing video. Thank you so much, I will go with Avata!
hank you for watching video and comments,
Congratulations 🎉🎉
You have been shortlisted among my lucky winners the week click on to aim your package 👇👇👇👇👇👇

I own both and love both
That clears it up, I need both! Thanks Billy!
Great comparison vid Billy. I am days away from getting my Avata.. so much to explore.! Can't wait
✌🏼peace..
Thanks man!
Hello I'm from Cambodia. Ok I will to buy this drone.
Billy Kyle always making sense. Great video as usual.
Exactly the comparison I was looking for..
I bought the first FPV because of its speed and ease of use, I bought the new one for the goggles these new goggles are fantastic. I hope DJI doesn’t screw us over again by not making the new goggles compatible with more of their drones
I have been messaging dji to please make it compatible with the mini 3pro.....crickets
Avata get one of those!
Congratulations 🎊 👏 🎊 You won a Drone. I hope you like your prize and thank You for commenting
Good luck 👊Quick inbox 📥 for it 👍👆👆🏅🏅.........👍🏅
I got both. Since I already had the fpv I purchased the Avata NO RC standalone. I'm cool with keeping the old goggles for now. Most people say they're more comfortable than the new ones anyway. I eventually want the head tracking though
Do you prefer the Avata because I’m considering getting it?
That's why there must be a "DJI Mavic 3S" coming soon. I'm happy that I and many others here aren´t "Mavic 3" B-testers but will get the "real deal" without GPS and horizontal problems plus with a telezoom that is actually usable (1 inch sensor).
Great Comparison Video and Review. Thank You Billy.
Thank you Billy for the video. I was waiting for this.
thanks for the video. answered all my questions
As always great information Mr. Kyle. thanks for your opinion on the Avata.
And I'm going for DJI FPV
MAIN REASON BEING
Avata has alot of bugs... I don't own one but there's a ton of avata crashing... And also no controller in the package is a bummer also my goal is to film cinematic shots like mountains and all.. Which avata would make no sense..
Good comparison video, Billy.
Always thorough, and to the point.
great video! just what i needed to know for both of them.
going to grab the dji fpv next week since its available for under 700€!
Outstanding video. Extremely helpful; It answered all my questions and I'm definitely getting an Avata.
Thanks for the video! I grabbed the fpv combo kit for 700 bucks and am now working up to manual mode, gonna grab the avata eventually 😄
Were did you find it for $700?
@@samadamc.1903 I work in a 2nd hand electronics shop and get a staff discount 😄
Awesome video as always dude! I think you mixed up the models on the split screen comparison at 9:12 tho 😉 🤙
Thanks. DJI Avata has a Pano Shooting Mode, can choose from Sphere for size panorama 360°x180° or only manually shot?
I just bought the FPV because of the price drop. I’ve got no desire ( at least for now ) to do bat sh_t crazy stunt flying with it but more so for just a better “feel” or experience of flight. I might buy the Avata in the future just because I can use my existing goggles and controllers with it.
Real informative video, thanks for posting it and, how much coffee did you drink before you made this ? 😁
Thanks man, now I know what to buy!
Happy to help!
Great comparison review, Billy. Thanks!
Good comparison video Billy
DJI should have introduced the Avata first. Flying the DJI FPV first made me expect more out of the Avata and I was very disappointed especially its lack of power/thrust.
Very nice video and review! Thanks 👍🏻
Awesome review. Thx bud!!
Thank you for this great Comperson from Germany!!!
How well did the Avata handle wind?
very helpful im going to go for the avatar
Whatever you said makes sense but who follows their senses I'll go with faster fpv. I've had mini 2 and it's scary in windy places.
Thanks Billy, I was worried that my fpv drone was going to be in par in comparison of P3 to P4P.
Super helpful. Thanks Billy!
Thanks for watching!
Great POSITIVE review. 🤙🏾
I know it’s supposed to be immersive and the whole point is the first person view but part of me wishes you could bind a RC N1 or a RC Pro to it .. 😊
I'm wishing I could bind the new goggles to the Mini 3 Pro and RC Controller...
If DJI would release the API that might be possible along with autonomous flight modes, or at least a way to use waypoints and autonomous flight modes with the normal controller and phone attached to the goggles. It would truly be a swiss army knife of drones then.
Thank you
Quite an in depth comparative video of between the DJI FPV drone and the new DJI Avata cine whoop FPV Drone Billy.
Hey man dont you think you should fly and own one for a while before making that statement? Anything other sounds ignorant
@@Marcus2750-u1t Yeah, not really. He can form his opinion based on what other people have showcased and said about these drones. Owning one just shows if these statements are true or not. To me, it is quite absurd to call it ignorant, but hey, you do you my friend!
@@Marcus2750-u1t how can he make that statement after buying and using one. Then it wouldn’t be his first FPV
Excellent comparison.
Great comparison Billy
Great video !
Looks like you found another tool for your real estate photography business. Flying through the house was awesome.
I think many professionals will use the Avata to get footage they could not capture with their main drone.
I think the FPV is for adrenaline junkies and the Avata is for those looking to expand their aerial cinematography....
Congratulations 🎊 👏 🎊 You won a Drone. I hope you like your prize and thank You for commenting
Good luck 👊Quick inbox 📥 for it 👍👆👆🏅🏅.........
But why do these guys show footage flying through computer generated real estate? I dont know but the6 do.
Good Breakdown!
Great review 👍
The size and weight sure makes a lot of difference for me. Once again, DJI pushed for portability with improved features.
You didn’t mention head tracking mode.
How abt flying in a strong wind condition. That's one of my concerns too 😔
thanks bill. i already heve the fpv, i agree with your feeling of having to be very careful with the fpv. i guess you will have to bind to the avata with the fpv goggles and controller. how do you do that.?
