You are correct! Originally I had a two minute segment where I went through all the possible names for this drone and why they would be incorrect. Then I thought… I’ll leave it out of the video and let all the people who think they know best to chime in. So far, no one has suggested a name that works. Hex is for 6 arms, 6 motors, so that doesn’t work. Tri-copter, is for 3 arms, 3 motors, so that doesn’t work.

only problem i see is prop prosition, there's not a lot of clearance for a drop mechanism or not enough room to carry a pg-7 warhead, might be alright for surveillance or specialised plastics shape for taking out high alt drones.
Jedi Steve strikes one as being a bright guy with a quick wit, and a decent pilot. I suppose we tend to hang with those of like mind, as well as like name.
I remember a couple years ago when this design first started circulating, and everyone laughed. Only thing I dont like is those tall antenna. First time upside down, and they will fold into the props, and your screwed. Or get caught trying to go thru to small of a space. Would def stick some stubbies on it.
You are going to have to make an appolgy video its T Hexacopter or coaxial tricopter, so not a quad or Y. Originally folks did it to help get props out of the shot. Y tricopters used to use 3 RC helicopter tail gyros and a servo to tilt the tail motor.
I expected all of such comments because simply, there is no correct name that is accepted by all, so sticking with DRONE or QUAD is a universal term that everyone identifies with no matter how many arms or motors a remotely piloted aircraft has. This is why many will disagree with you as to the name and others may agree. This is the great thing about the comments section… everyone has a thought and often an opinion, and are free to express it.

I was reading that the Y6 has a min100 GPS chip
If you are new to the FPV hobby and GPS in the FPV hobby, then I’d suggest that you look up “GPS RESCUE” so that you don’t confuse it with RTH GPS included in beginner camera drones which have GEO fencing since beginners fly those. GPS Rescue is based on FAILSAFE. FAILSAFE is what is in your TRANSMITTER and RECEIVER and it is up to you to set it up in both the TRANSMITTER and RECEIVER via BETAFLIGHT CONFIGURATOR. FPV Drones with GPS RESCUE can show an ARROW pointing to home if that is what you wish… Again, you set that up in BETAFLIGHT CONFIGURATOR.

Most days, during the summer there are at least 12 people flying.

Yes, I do have a video. Watch this video and part way through I answer your question of what goggles work with what: ruclips.net/video/W27r_La2mdc/видео.htmlsi=QH5pgYxPGHKzt4yW
Steve are there any settings in betaflight to set besides the y6 configuration in the motor section. My y6 wants to flip over when throttling up. The motors and blades are set to turn in the correct orientation.
Maybe I missed it in the video, but how long is long range and how much longer is that than its many competitors? Need a reason here to buy one vs DJI.
In the Advanced FPV Pilot Hobby, the term LONG RANGE refers to the video and transmission signal. The RANGE is determined by the PILOT. This means the PILOT uses the proper ANTENNAS on drone and RADIO, the pilot uses a LONG RANGE RECEIVER in the drone with proper antenna. The PILOT uses a BATTERY size and chemistry that will provide and extended flight time, and finally the PILOT sets up the Drone and RADIO so that if a connection is lost, the drone will FAILSAFE to GPS and return in the direction of home.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 why do they call the drone "long range" and 20 minutes is long enough to fly the drone long distance. As you showed too with a bigger battery you can get more airtime.
It has a DJI 03 Camera so you can only use DJI FPV Goggles (newer versions). As for a Transmitter, you simply use any transmitter (radio) that is compatible with the Receiver you placed in the drone.
Long Range is based on many things in the FPV hobby: - First, Range is based on the battery used (you need power to fly out and fly back) - Second, Range is based on your VTX system (video system). You need to see the video in your goggles no matter how far you fly - Third, Range is based on the Receiver and the Transmitter (Receiver in drone, Transmitter in the Radio in your hands) - Fourth, Range is based on the type of antennas used on Radio, Goggles, Drone - Fifth, Range is based on on where you fly (in the FPV Hobby you fly in and out of objects which kills transmission). If you fly an FPV drone like a DJI GPS Camera drone (above the trees) then you get long range.
I apologize for asking an easily politicized question. When I saw the thumbnail of the aircraft it reminded me of a mini documentary about the conflict in Ukraine. Is this one of the y-configured drones that has been weaponized by the Ukrainian military and that’s why there was such a shortage?
I think you may be surprised to realize that no one can agree on a descriptive name for this. Is it a HEX (six motors)… Is it a Tri-copter (3 arms)… No one agrees. I call it a QUAD because it is the same as everything in life where you say a name and everyone knows what you are talking about, kinda like BANDAID, ZEROX, etc.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Those examples are brand names being genericized. It's not really the same. Mislabeling something is just that. I was involved in this hobby as a manufacturer in the early 2000's and there wasn't any confusion then. If there is now, you have an opportunity to help people understand the differences in these models. I know, a lot of people just call every quadcopter a "drone" even though they don't know the definition of a drone. I've even heard people call large quads that you can fly in "manned drones" which is, of course, an oxymoron. It looks like you care about accuracy in your videos and this is an area where you can make a difference. I enjoy your videos and wish you continued success with your channel.
A quad has 4 rotors. This is an FPV drone with either 3 counter rotating rotors or 6 rotors . Great review despite the cringes due to the multiple "quad" references
“Quad” was used as a generic bookmark and also to cause people to comment because there is no agreed upon name for this style of drone. So, the result was successful. Hundreds of comments from hundreds of viewers all with a different take on how to identify the drone in one or two words. If you have time, and a coffee, have a read of the comments.
The rule is this…. If any human asks if they should get an AVATA 2 or another drone it means two very important things. #1…. They have enough money to afford an AVATA 2. #2… They are a NEWBIE and have no idea about the FPV Hobby. My advice in such a case, get the AVATA 2 as it is made for 100% NEWBIES and you’ll have a good experience.
Yes, that is where most people in the RC Hobby buy RC products from. Banggood is simply a Chinese AMAZON (they don’t make products but retailers sell through them).
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 You are correct. Totally didn't think on that one.... Just calling it mine will be a great start 😄 Then I can name it personally like my other kids I mean quads . My Avata 2 I named Dronan, the Air 3 is Dronicus, Neo is well.... Neo, Nazgul5 is still TBD..... Thank you for the review as well! Your video on the masterairscrew props for the avata 2 was the deciding factor for getting them, enjoying, and setting a personal best top speed 😎
It should be mentioned that the original design is the Freylon Y copter and HGLRC stole his design from the designer. They are saying that it is different because their quad has a T-Shape instead of the original Y-Shape. Still this is copyright infringement!
That looks like a totally wild hexacopter! I wonder if the componant that was out of stock was one that Ukraine is using to built their quads, which they produce in the tens of thousands each month. I can see that happen if they had finalized a design, then bought up all the of the supply for that component to ensure their production, since, after all, their UAV building is a matter of life and death, not recreation.
I don't think those battery checkers that give percentages are very accurate. You need to have a working and accurate mAh counter on your aircraft to get good results or else use the mAh counter on your charger to measure the amount of mAh put back in after the flight.
Thanks for the comment. I will say that once you are in the RC hobby for 15 years, these cheap little battery voltage testers make perfect sense. I use them all the time with a ridiculous number of brands of batteries and they provide sufficient info to extrapolate the results.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 You could easily test how reliable one of yours is by flying a full battery down to about 50% remaining (as far as the tester was concerned) and then charging the battery back to full and seeing what the mAh back in are reported as by the charger. This would give you an idea how reliable your method is. I'd do the test a few times to check for consistency. I am guessing you'll find it's not that accurate but I could be proven wrong.
Wikipedia: ...in which the names tricopter, quadcopter, hexacopter and octocopter are frequently used to refer to 3-, 4-, 6- and 8-rotor rotorcraft... So stop arguing, it is a hexacopter.
@CAPTAINDRONE798 dude, the number stays for rotors. Wiki and rekonfpv already named it: Y6 - hexacopter in Y configuration. I have expected more from a "captaindrone" ...
You can spend hours trying to figure out a cool name for it. A hex has six arms, a quad has 4 arms, a drone can be anything (plane, helicopter, drone), a tricopter has 3 arms… getting close, yet it has six motors. Someone will come up with a cool name for these that will stick.
@@Simulacra001 right and the number stands for amount of rotors. Why nobody is checking out the definition of multicopter in wikipedia instead of arguing...
@@dallasb7117OK so you’re not that experienced, I get that from your response. Think about every FPV Drone on the market that takes various size batteries and various size cameras. Perhaps you’ve been spending too much time on forums and reading silly comments. Now if you ONLY do Freestyle, then you want an X frame and a battery on the bottom center and NO external camera for best flick ability. But for everyday flying and filming, CG has no place in flight as the flight controller always adjusts.
@CAPTAINDRONE798 Gee that's quite an assumption Steve..been flying FPV Acro quads, wings and planes several years. Rarely visit forums or chats either. I do fly some Freestyle but recently more into mid-long range FPV Wings. And yes indeed you can fly an Unbalanced quad..as a jet fighter buddy once said to me "if ya put enough power on it you can fly a brick" (I'm an ex military photojournalist) And, again, you sure can do that Steve...but considering the Unbalanced wear on components and slightly lesser flying characteristics (maybe You can't tell the difference 😉) I will continue to try and nail the CG as accurately as possible. BTW how long have you been flying? Seems like you would agree with me rather than question my experience....Maybe you should conduct a poll: "Does a CG balanced aircraft fly better than an Unbalanced one?" seems silly but maybe you could gain some insight. Sorry, I don’t use SIMs so I really have no knowledge in that area. I do know that the STEAM network has the best Sims.
Thanks Steve
Morning ❤
Any information about the range? How far it can actually fly? What does it mean that it is called "long range"?
Long Range is based on many things in the FPV hobby:
- First, Range is based on the battery used (you need power to fly out and fly back)
- Second, Range is based on your VTX system (video system). You need to see the video in your goggles no matter how far you fly
- Third, Range is based on the Receiver and the Transmitter (Receiver in drone, Transmitter in the Radio in your hands)
- Fourth, Range is based on the type of antennas used on Radio, Goggles, Drone
- Fifth, Range is based on on where you fly (in the FPV Hobby you fly in and out of objects which kills transmission). If you fly an FPV drone like a DJI GPS Camera drone (above the trees) then you get long range.
It seems very fast drone. I would like to have walksnail version.
I apologize for asking an easily politicized question. When I saw the thumbnail of the aircraft it reminded me of a mini documentary about the conflict in Ukraine.
Is this one of the y-configured drones that has been weaponized by the Ukrainian military and that’s why there was such a shortage?
I have no idea, however, if you keep reading the comments, some have blamed the shortage of parts on such a conflict.
Why are you calling a Tri-copter a Quad? It's named by the number of powered points, that are generally single or stacked motors.
Will get one !!
Aww I was going to say it's a hex motor, not a quad, but someone's already said that.
Ditto
A quad has 4 rotors. This is an FPV drone with either 3 counter rotating rotors or 6 rotors . Great review despite the cringes due to the multiple "quad" references
“Quad” was used as a generic bookmark and also to cause people to comment because there is no agreed upon name for this style of drone. So, the result was successful. Hundreds of comments from hundreds of viewers all with a different take on how to identify the drone in one or two words. If you have time, and a coffee, have a read of the comments.
Dude! The percentage of battery is not a good way to "measure?" it's remaining Mah. Best to do a full charge to zero imo.
Thank you m8! Luv ya vids
should I get the avata 2 or the helion?
The rule is this…. If any human asks if they should get an AVATA 2 or another drone it means two very important things. #1…. They have enough money to afford an AVATA 2. #2… They are a NEWBIE and have no idea about the FPV Hobby. My advice in such a case, get the AVATA 2 as it is made for 100% NEWBIES and you’ll have a good experience.
@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks
Yo can this come to cambodia
can you buy drones from banggood?
Yes, that is where most people in the RC Hobby buy RC products from. Banggood is simply a Chinese AMAZON (they don’t make products but retailers sell through them).

Is it a quad or now a hex? 🤔
It is whatever you wish to call it, but I will say if you wish to be “DESCRIPTIVE” you can’t call it a QUAD or a HEX because it has 3 arms.
Was waiting for flywoo to make a hex 5 or 6
It should be mentioned that the original design is the Freylon Y copter and HGLRC stole his design from the designer. They are saying that it is different because their quad has a T-Shape instead of the original Y-Shape. Still this is copyright infringement!
2nd comment from Philippines
That looks like a totally wild hexacopter! I wonder if the componant that was out of stock was one that Ukraine is using to built their quads, which they produce in the tens of thousands each month. I can see that happen if they had finalized a design, then bought up all the of the supply for that component to ensure their production, since, after all, their UAV building is a matter of life and death, not recreation.
Your guess is as good as the next persons as to why there was a long shortage of components.
We know why there was a shortage Steve. Ukrainian drone pilots love them. 😎
I would assume it's more cause you need a 6 motor esc those are definitely not as common
Wonder why they made it high lift capacity (because Ukraine)
Well, it is not a quad. It is a secta-drone 🤪😂 Nice review and drone.
Many Thanks!
Quad? Looks like a Tri to me! 😅
Have a read of all the comments below the video… No one can agree on what it is.
Please stop calling it a "quad."
@@Landrew0 Give him a break.
Haha....I guess that didn't apply I didn't even notice
And, what would you call it…. Now be careful… think about it, because whatever you say, few will agree.
How about “little flying guy”?
@@ericstanford5419Now that sounds like something I could hear myself calling it 😊
Checking battery charge state by voltage might be not that reliable, used mAh measured by FC should be more accurate
Wikipedia: ...in which the names tricopter, quadcopter, hexacopter and octocopter are frequently used to refer to 3-, 4-, 6- and 8-rotor rotorcraft... So stop arguing, it is a hexacopter.
Not really…. A hex refers to 6 arms/6 motors. Tri-copter refers to 3 arms/3 motors. I don’t believe Wiki is gonna name this one.
@CAPTAINDRONE798 dude, the number stays for rotors. Wiki and rekonfpv already named it: Y6 - hexacopter in Y configuration. I have expected more from a "captaindrone" ...
@ Love these comments…. Keep them coming!
It not a quad if it doesn’t have four arms. Not quite as catchy but I’d say a tri-copter.
You can spend hours trying to figure out a cool name for it. A hex has six arms, a quad has 4 arms, a drone can be anything (plane, helicopter, drone), a tricopter has 3 arms… getting close, yet it has six motors. Someone will come up with a cool name for these that will stick.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798no, hex, quad, octo is not the amount of arms...
@@YourdailydoseofShorts-un5vi we’ll have to agree to disagree as quad literally mean four, as tri means three.
@@Simulacra001 right and the number stands for amount of rotors. Why nobody is checking out the definition of multicopter in wikipedia instead of arguing...
@ Just so you are aware, agreeing to disagree isn’t arguing lol
Steve, isn't it detrimental to offset the CG, ya know ?
Rarely is that an issue on a drone
@CAPTAINDRONE798 Really ?....So there are times when an Unbalanced multirotor flys just like a balanced one ?....Okie Dokie bud.
Seems like you would agree with me rather than question my experience....Maybe you should conduct a poll:
"Does a CG balanced aircraft fly better than an Unbalanced one?" seems silly but maybe you could gain some insight. Happy Flying
