Are the motors/ESCs coming down cooler because of the lower current going through them? That could be a real benefit of pushing to higher voltages/cell counts: you can spin the props substantially faster without burning things up. I'm not sure what the benefit of doing _that_ would be, but there very well could be one. The motor windings are really fine wire. You’re putting more power through the motor with higher voltage but less amperage, that’s why you can get away with higher effective kv.
Technically, can even do 10S, but 12S 50.4V is pushing it. More cells, more packaging weight. The MP9943 5V reg commonly used on FC supports up to 36V. Most FET used in ESC are only rated 30V. But there are 40V and 50V options. 12S would mean around 900KV which is much thinner winding with 3x the turns of 4S.

8s batteries are a pia… and no Hota support.. but the power supply must feel awesome. Should consider battery weight. Does a 2000 mah 4s have a much lower real C rating than a 1000mah 4s? Seems like kv has a ton to do with this along with big battery
Just run a pack which has 16 thinner cells instead of 8 at whatever size these are. So you have an, (8 series 2 parallel, 8s2p) pack. Then you have redundancy built in. I had a 2s2p pack for my onroad carpet touring car a couple of years ago. Still was 5000mah but with 4 cells instead of 2 and it was still just 8.4 volts.
Why not use higher voltage batteries with less current? 8S batteries don't necessarily need to be big, and you can get the same power with less heating. Could make for smaller electronics, like Bubby noticed with the 20mm ESC.
what is the spoiler looking thing on the back where the antenna is? Is that an antenna style, just for looks, or is it like an air brake? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm new to this.
Higher voltage needs less amps and motors with less kv. Where is the sensefull limit for going higher in voltage ? JB, maybe you could do an episode going into that question ? Because less amps also means less heat and lighter cables. The idea to use 2 packs with 4s instead of one 8s is also very usefull ! Thanks to all of you for this inspiring episode !
Voltage is speed, amp is torque. Only limit for voltage is insulation and the price of components. Voltage is easier to handle than amps. With less amps you can get lighter components, but you loose torque.

I had a 2s2p pack for my onroad carpet touring car a couple of years ago. Still was 5000mah but with 4 cells instead of 2 and it was still just 8.4 volts.
This is same idea we did with hydros pumps on cars running 48V or more to a 12V motor...spins much faster and only uses with short cycles.
Nurk built an 8s awhile ago with two 4s batteries.
Please mass produce these as custom builds.
ITS A BEAST ! 🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁
With less amps you can get lighter components, but you loose torque.
i would love to fly this 8s beast
i just put a weird quad together its a 7 inch frame with 5 inch motors and 7 inch props .... motors come down cold and it is fast and quite ...
Is the avatar DVR all that bad that you guys had to slap on the gopro? I wanna see that thing without the added weight!
Where can I buy this?
8s is amazing, insane POWER ! Greetings from Ukraine !
@LeDribFPV So, I was 'thinking' of eventually updating to 6s, but hearing your sticking to 4s makes me wonder......How is staying on 4s in you opinion?
c418 music???? hell yeah, good taste!
