100% I’ve been flying drones since the Phantom 2, and my one foray into DIY-world to make a Cinewhoop was not a fun experience. There are a lot of folks out there who just want to go out and fly instead of building + repairing hardware.
Great information on the new Avata drone, it seems like DJI really got this one right. With improved camera and goggles this is really interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the vid! I loved how you explained so much especially around the FCC / CE stuff and the fact it is only a software lock. 2km for use in UK is really disappointing! And I wish the goggles had a better battery solution (eg built in on the headstrap like a vr headset) as i don't like cables hanging off my face :-D .... Thanks for your time putting it all together for us was really informative. It looks like a nice piece of kit!
on the surface, i agree but i think there is a reason they very intentionally didn’t do this… the vast majority of dji fpv buyers (and likely avata) were 100% new to FPV drones. most were unwilling and impatient to get get results somewhat similar to what they saw on all the cool FPV drone videos on youtube and ultimately a lot were unhappy with their new drone, crashing etc. to solve this dji is forcing the hand of buyers and giving them the motion controller which gets you a lot closer to dynamic views associated with fpv drones but in a safer, nearly instant to learn way that will make people happy with their new drones and then they can “upgrade” to the full experience with the purchase of a “low cost” (hahaha) $199 fpv controller.
The motion controllers weren't selling. Dji had a warehouse full of them. So they made this the only bundle available to get rid of that surplus supply. Diffently a business decision.
Can you do. a BEGINNER Avata Versus Mini - 3 Advice video for the less technical newer buyers ⁉ Oops I just saw you intend to do that review and THANKS !
You’re so good at these reviews 😂. First off they should have had a cine mode on this drone for sure and focused on flying this slower too almost like an interior mode or something unique. Correct me if I'm wrong, but off hand it looks like the Avata can only be flown sideways by using the traditional remote controller. If that's true, it's a pretty significant cinematic option to exclude from the package deal remote.
thinking of getting this or wait for the dji air 3 if ever there will be one, my last drone was the mini 2 and it got destroyed submerged on the beach, planning on starting with fpv drones but still want to have a normal drone, will dji avata be good for beginners, bought the small betafpv cetus kit to practice fpv flying but i can't get the hang of it since the normal mode with auto hover is uncontrollable,
thank you for this awesome video, quick question, you said the controller is at 179$ now, I couldnt find any online, do you recommend any store? and regarding the goggles it seems you liked the older version more since they have more transmission range? or the new ones are better?

another rock-solid objective video sir, thanks so much for a no-BS POV on this ship in a world of sponsored "reviews". wondering: you able to achieve top speeds reported in specs? super-curious if this ship will actually reach 27m/s (or roughly 60mph) in manual mode. thx m8!
Thanks, appreciate it! I’ll be digging into the speeds in manual mode in the next few days. I was mostly trying not to plant it into the ground at max speed before the review went live in case of needing more b-roll.
Thanks for great video. I'm thinking about Avata, but living in EU have quite big concerns regarding 300 meters range. Was it fixed finally? No more chargers to charge my lipo batteries. I love your videos. Keep them coming. You may also want to talk about the noise in another video. You can get prescription inserts made for the older goggles. I have them and they work great. I used vroptician. Just make sure to have your eye doctor give you the numbers from your prescription.
Great review! Concerning the googles, would you recommend the older (V2) or the new (2...who came up with that terminology?) ones, apart from the obvious price difference? The new ones are lighter, but have less range. You also mentioned the new ones have a touch-pad on the right side. If the old ones don't have that - how does accesssing the menu works in that case?
If range isn’t an issue, or the slight increase in frames per second on the old ones, then I’d go new. Just so much lighter, better UI (old ones use buttons that are fine but not great).

It's interesting to hear about the software limitation cap of the goggles between the EU and USA. Here in the US every review I'm watching has the drone go quite a ways behind buildings and through thick forests before you start to see any minimal quality drop. But for you in the EU I think you said you went about 300m behind some trees and it basically completely cut out. I feel like people would watch your review and think "man, the goggles 2 are MUCH worse than the v2's" but in reality they're actually A LOT better, it's just the software cap DJI put on them for EU countries.
Yup, I tried to explain it as best I could with as clear as imagery and tables as I could. Ultimately, if you ever travel with the drone - it's a big consideration.
Great video! I've been looking at getting a new drone and have never flown an FPV drone. Never used a wand to fly a drone either. Both points make me nervous but this looks to be an easy drone to fly. I'm really thinking about getting this.

Great review (and your Garmin EPIX review helped me as well, thanks!) 👍One question about the CE Range of 6km with the old ("V2) goggles: did you do a "real world" test and can confirm that the range is much better in CE than the new goggles? I checked DJI's website, and they only state the range for the avata, not for the different goggles..
I tried it today, and it did indeed go further, albeit, not a ton further (roughly 1,200ish meters versus the same spot/flight with Goggles 2 was about 950m). Not a super scientific study, but something.
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks for testing. So I guess then the old goggles won't get 6km in perfect condition? Maybe due the fact that the Avata supports only 5.8 GHZ (what I read so far), while the " DJI FPV" Drone supports dual band, which would explain the 6km CE Range..
That 200m range in the woods is a dealbreaker 4 me. I usually fly my drone in wooded areas and narrow valleys... I would love buying this, but the fact that they don.t give the RC at 1400$ it.s again, a bad thing. I thought that the RC would be the main controller, and the joystock - a gimmik. So, 1400$ for the combo+200$ for the RC and another 300$ for the batteries makes the full price kinda steep. A combo worth 1500$ including the drone, the glasses, the RC and a spare battery would have been a hit imho
Realistically in the UK at least, it's going to be hard for your spotter to maintain line of sight in the kind of dense foliage woodland Ray is flying in there. Not great, but the legislation doesn't work great for this kind of flying anyway.
