@@EnragedSephiroth 1. Congrats on replying to a nine year old comment, takes some serious brain cells, and 2. Why need to reply if you just answered your own question?
Harvest also shares similarities with "Prodigal Son" from Iron Maiden, and a riff from "Master's Apprentices" sounds inspired by the beginning of "Immortal Rites" by Morbid Angel. All music is inspired by something. Whether the similarities were intentional or not, it doesn't really matter in the end. The point is that he made it his own. Still cool that you noticed the similarity, though.
This is not a big surprise, since Mikael himself said in an interview for Spin that he likes to listen to Abba on tour because they make him feel at home.
yes, I knew it! I first heard it when I listened to the Royal Albert Hall performance. I thought, 'hey, I know that part from somewhere!' but I couldn't put a finger on it. Thank you for pointing it out :D
Being an Iron Maiden fan, I effectively noticed the similarity in the 3rd verse of ''Prodigal Son'' and the 2nd verse of ''Harvest''. The Blackwater Park album was in fact inspired a lot by Iron Maiden. Even in the ''making of'' dvd, there's a mentionned inspiration of the song ''Moonchild'' in the the title track.
i love it whrn bands do that! it makes a lot of sense too for miakael likes all kinds of music. its like when dream theater did a part from blackend by metallica in this dying soul.
Sounds really similar... But I'm not admired, and i won't be if Mikael listens to Abba. His best friend, Steven Wilson says that is very common he's listening to Abba and after to Morbid Angel. Maybe Mikael is on the same way...
Grammar is how you put together your words into sentences, i'm from Sweden and i'm probably failing all the time a little bit, but what you wrote were incorrect and hard to understand. But you know what? Let's enjoy another opeth song.
Nope! they didn't.. Trust me abba's melodies slighly modified has been used in so much metal etc.. And pop. They would have had thousands of ongoing cases if they did that
With Mikael being a huge ABBA fan, I don't doubt that it subconsciously got in there somehow. Happens to everyone!
= they are both from sweden
@downwardSPIRAL yeah 😂
Subconsciously? He explicitly says in interviews he throws in the occasional nod to Abba, Camel, and various other sources of inspiration.
@downwardSPIRAL look at you replying to a nine year old comment. Good for you!

@downwardSPIRAL not stolen.
Morbid Angel have a wee song called Damnation.
Hmmmm.
Both bands are amazing, as a Finn it pains to say, but oh boy Sweden has gave the world some fantastic bands!
Hey, you guys gave the world Amorphis. That's not nothing.
And the new drummer for Opeth.
Lol this is awesome, good to know ABBA wrote one of my favourite riffs of all time (Y)

Thank you! I have always thought this!
Damn it's incredible !

Hahahaha, now I understand why I always liked that Abba song x)
Haha I though that when I first heard it too xD recognized it instantly
They're both great!
He admits it. Says he lifts bits from ABBA songs.
Second part is not "Super Trooper" but "Lay all your love on me".
excelent !! other example in stillife is Benighted, that is very similar to a song from camel

well you know, Mikael IS a big ABBA fan.

Sounds really similar... But I'm not admired, and i won't be if Mikael listens to Abba. His best friend, Steven Wilson says that is very common he's listening to Abba and after to Morbid Angel. Maybe Mikael is on the same way...
lol "please dont' sue me"..
Over analysed.. Mikael didn't even listen to Abba during that time...
But it's quite simular ^^

They're just paying a small tribute.
..Weird. XD At least if they did "Steal" it, they made it their own! METAL! \m/
I think ABBA tried to sue Opeth for this no?
Nope! they didn't.. Trust me abba's melodies slighly modified has been used in so much metal etc.. And pop. They would have had thousands of ongoing cases if they did that
Well you know, he wasn't at the time.
Sure he was. They listened to Stevie Wonder during the making of this record too, primarily.
LMAO
