DAYUM ! We danced to this in 1967 when he was Stevie Winwood and everyone thought he was black. The man hasn't lost a step or a note. In fact, he's better than ever. Rock On Stevie
Took me by surprise, too. I first heard this song in the movie "Iron Eagle" and until the late 2000s I assumed it was a black vocalist doing the singing. This man has pipes of solid gold.
Wow this was playing & I didn’t even realize that it was a recent recording. He still sounds the same! So glad he’s still around to grace us with his beautiful voice.
Funny thing is, we will still be listening to guys like this, Clapton, McCartney, SRV, Etc 50 more years from now. That Kanye guy....not so much. Lady GaGa who?
The fools giving this a thumbs down should be strapped inside of a Leslie speaker while Stevie wails on his Hammond. FULL blast volume. This man is a true legend. Learn what respect is. Today’s phony computer generated music with the crap lyrics will be long forgotten while this will live on forever. Come back in 50 years and tell me I’m wrong.
I played in bands all my life and still do. Played Hammond B3. We covered this but no way could we do it in Steve's key of G major. Even when we down keyed it to E major it was still a stretch. What a guy. My friend and talented guitarist Gerry Fitzgerald actually roadied for Steve in the late 60's. Met by chance in Denmark street Tin Pan Alley off Charing Cross Road. If you read this Steve you may remember Gerry. Scots lad from Edinburgh. Sadly passed away 3 years ago. Keep rocking that B3.
you still got it Steve, if i didn't see this video i wouldn't have noticed a difference between your younger yr voice and now... Keep rocking that's what keeps us young..
I remember when this song came out in the mid 1960's. Couldn't believe a kid that young, (Winwood), could have a soulful voice that great. Saw Stevie several times with Traffic. Always loved him. Still do!
@Paddy Orourke I saw him in Vegas about 6 years ago. He was kicking bass with his left foot. I'm a huge fan of his. Great voice. A great talent. (Just my opinion.)
@@ryancang3627 oh yeah. I was in my teens when I first heard Stevie singing and playing the Hammond Organ with The Spenser Davis Group as a teenager. I'm a Man, another great song. Same group. 1 year later. Stevie Rocks!
@@grumpybumme3289 Eric Clapton, who played with Winwood in Blind Faith, said Stevie was a really good guitarist. Winwood main axe was keyboards. And what a voice!
There is NO WAY I could possibly love this any more than I do! It put a big ol' smile on my face in the 70's and it still puts one on my face in 2023!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm right there with you! I will be 74 this year and I can remember when this song came out on a 45 record. I started in a garage band at the same time and this song still propels me forward in energy while sending me back in my "Way Back Machine". Thank you, "Stevie" - as you were known back then.
I saw Spencer Davis Group in Chislehurst Caves in late 60s. A really good venue..Lots of bands played there, Animals, Kinks, Pretty Things, Herd, Yardbirds etc.. Such good memories.
RIP the great Spencer Davis who co-wrote this. Sad day. This is such a great version (Steve's voice is great after all this time) and proof that great songs never age
I'm used to seeing pandemic-era cover collaborations like this on RUclips. But I looked carefully and said to myself: This guy really looks like Steve Winwood, and then . . .
Hey Steve, its Bob, your truck captain on the High Life US tour. I still relish crew meals with you and your wonderful wife. I ran into Dolette several years back but have missed a lot of music after retiring to Thailand. My absolute best to you!
There's a yt of Spencer Davis Group live in Finland from 67 or so. The kid is 19 and sings Georgia like the bluesiest Black guy you ever heard. It's amazing.
I was a kid when this song was new and now I'm an old man. So is Steve but the music is still great. I've had great music to listen to, and I'm grateful.
This is undoubtedly one of the most propulsive Soul/ Rock songs in history of music. You can't help tapping your toes right from the first strains of this song . The organ is outstanding and his Ray Charles like vocals are drenched with soul
Steve Winwood's singing, song writing, multi instrumentalist is to me by far one of the greatest, rock, blues, pop, artist of all artists. HIS VOICE IS SO DISTINCTIVE and everlasting from 1965 till present. WOW. way to Steve
One thing I noticed watching this is that Steve clearly has arthritis in his hands. I was surprised he was still playing keyboards. Talked to my girlfriend about this, she's a massage therapist, and she said that for many musicians the only time their hands don't hurt is when they are playing. I love this guy and definitely will try to see him on this tour! Still has the voice too!
I was an art student at Isleworth Polytechnic and then at Ealing, London, UK. I travelled by motorcycle to Brighton University to hear Stevie Winwood and band about 1963/64. It was fantastic and well worth the ride. Thanks. Funny thing was I was in the same class a Fred Bulsara at Ealing...and we remained friends to the end of his life. It was ALL happening in London in those days. That basist wasn't even born.
Mr Fantasy hasn't lost a step over the many decades. All I can say is thank you Steve. Your music has been in my playlist nearly all my life and for that I am truly grateful.

Everybody knows the secret, in the presence and color of the Lord. Then 40 years later the book came out. They always knew, make love, not war, and make music and dance. God I wish he was twenty again.
It's crazy that he was just 17 when this song became a hit.
and I was 13 and ... French !! I begged for some cash to go get the EP which I still have !!
Winwood still as hot as when I was a teen! Not many mature artists left who are unafraid to do their old tunes.
Damn. This guy has been a rock star for 56 years and he's 72 years old, and he still gets down cooler than 99% of 20 year olds.
Jeff Beck is the same @ 75 he cranks.

Soul survivor 😎 Stevie Winwood.

Amazing how many decades he's been performing this song and he never fails to deliver.
Don't know what's more remarkable; Being able to sing like that at 72 or being able to sing like that at 18.
Both would be remarkable ! 😁

Steve's voice hasn't dimmed with age. One of the greatest rock voices ever, not to mention his song writing talent
Not's the age is a problem. The talent neve will die.
So Thrilled I had a Chance to See hi a couple of times!!!,!,, Brilliant!!!,,!,,
From the Spencer Davis Group to this - Wow! His voice sounds as good at 72 as it did at 17.
I listened to the whole thing because it is good. He is still great.

One of the best!
In Chicago in the 1960's my older sister had this 45. I played it. It blew me away then as it does now. Rock on in Jesus!
That voice is unmistakable and remarkable in clarity despite his age. Even Sinatra's voice changed with age, Winwood's explodes with brightness.
Great musician great song great pad
Yes - still sounds good, but this is a half-step lower than the original SDG version from 1966.
The best
