I roadied for Steve in the Spencer Davis Group in the 60s. Met him in Denmark Street just off Charing Cross Road. First thing I noticed was his great Brummie accent. I was 16 and had been playing guitar and taking piano lessons since age 8. I learned a lot from Steve and the band. I went on to play Hammond B 3 and guitar in bands in London and still do. Great stuff and memories.
Stevie turned semipro at 14 when he joined the Spencer Davis Group in 1962, and by 16 had reached professional grade and was taking the world by storm. An authentic musical genius as vocalist, keyboardist, blew and rock guitarist, and songwriter. Everyone wanted to jam with him, as suggested by this clip.
Sometimes it's really nice to know I grew up in a generation with a whole Lotta good music and musicians. I used the bass open for my sound check tonight at practice.
I played this song in a band. stand next to the Leslie Cabinet when the B 3 organ is wailing and you'll wet your pants!!! This song brings tears to my eyes! the back up singers are GREAT!!!!!!
Leslies were always a trade off. 147's sounded good but got drowned out by louder instruments. 925's were louder but not as sweet. A band we did sound for, Louisiana's La Roux put their 147 in an isolated room and sent the signal to a SVT head and cabinet on stage.
Hello there, watched the Spencer Davis Group several times during the late '60s at gigs around Birmingham, Brilliant then and Steve Winwood is still brilliant today. Regards, RichardA.
If I coulda heard this mix in 66, I mighta never drank or drugged. The hammond organ has haunted me ever since it brought me out from under the house playin with tonka trucks to a babysitters blastin radio sunbathin in the side yd. At 6 Im like, what the hells makin that grinding sound?...LOL. Carried a B3 all over the US , Canada , Mexico for 8 yrs straight 77- 85 .Miss it terribly....Thanks for this upload . Know where to come to get HIGH!
I love the people the older people I should say my age in my late sixties I've been listening to this my whole life but it's cool to see the people grooving and swaying to the music so cool long live rock and roll
Steve Winwood he's badass started at 17 years of age got with Spencer Davis Group then he was with traffic then he had his solo career Steve. Wynwood badass rocker😎👍✌🌎
He actually started with his dad and brother when he was prepubescent. Played piano and guitar in clubs and they had to hide him behind the piano so that people wouldn't complain that there were children in the band. This guy is the real deal, and so lacking in the ego department that it stuns me.
His work on the B-3 is world class. His vocals the same. But this bassist doesn’t have the bottom like in other recordings. When you hear the 1st bass notes of the intro your brain should be paralyzed by the deep thunder and not hearing some boinky sounding noise that I hear on this video. I should know I’ve been performing this song in clubs, concerts, weddings, party’s and any place that uses a band. You have to feel the bass in your heart and soul. When the keyboard starts to scream jiving with the bass it’s the one - two punch.that makes this song as great now as it was back then. Yep, we still play it and people still love it. Usually you see the feet of the patrons start tapping, then the hands then they have to dance
Back when people actually had talent.
Everything Stevie W. touched turned to GOLD. Whether in the Spencer Davis group, in Traffic w Chris Wood, in Blind Faith. This IS THE dude, madudes!!
Absolutely agreed!
Steve is a musical genius.
his playing the organ is out of this World
And then God gave us Steven winwood
💖💖💖

We’re ALL so glad you made it, Stevie.
When I first heard this in the 60's, I thought the SDG was a black band. Winwood would stay with me for decades.
Terrific musician with a classic voice..

Stevie and a Hammond B3 go together like peanut butter and jelly.
In music I'm no fan of anyone, but I have to admit that Mr Winwood is unsurpassed

Masterpiece
One of the best songs ever❤
He not only is a great musician but is a brilliant song writer! A true music pro!!
He was a young teenager age 15 or so with the Spencer Davis Group. 60 odd years in the business and still sounds good and looks very healthy

The one and only super talented Steve Winwood from my home city and one of the best rock songs ever.

Those rythmm singers served him well over the years..
Wasn’t he like 15 when he recorded this with Spencer Davis?

winwood's high voice is still so clear, man...
Michael Donovan It's amazing how well his voice has held up all these years. He must have been pushing about 50 here.
saw him open for Petty in 2014,hee was great. Is this organ the original organ fro the SDG? It looks so old.
He did this song with the Spencer Davis group 💯💯💯😎

Un Génie musical du 20ème siècle. Une musique fantastique qu'il est de plus en plus difficile de découvrir de nos jours.
Go Steve. Many Moons ago, I wanted this as the recessional hymn at my wedding. Or at least when we made our entrance the reception. Dreams....
this should have 1 billion views

Well, my temperature is rising, got my feet on the floor
Crazy people rocking 'cause they want to some more
Let me in baby, I don't know what you got
But you better take it easy 'cause this place is hot
And I'm so glad you made it, so glad you made it
You got to gimme some lovin', gimme, gimme some lovin'
Gimme some lovin', gimme, gimme some lovin'
Gimme some lovin' everyday
Well, I feel so good, everything's getting high
You better take it easy 'cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day and I had no work to do
Wait a minute baby, let it happen to you
And I'm so glad we made it, so glad we made it
You got to gimme some lovin', gimme, gimme some lovin'
Gimme some lovin', gimme, gimme some lovin'
Gimme some lovin' everyday, yeh
Well, I feel so good, everything's getting high
You better take it easy 'cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day nothing went too good
Now I'm gonna relax, buddy everybody should
And I'm so glad we made it, hey hey, so glad we made it
You got to gimme some lovin', gimme, gimme some lovin' woo ooo
Gimme some lovin', gimme, gimme some lovin'
Gimme, gimme, gimme some of your lovin', baby
You know I need it so bad woo ooo
Gimme some of your lovin', baby

Excelente Steve como domina el hammond
