I don't remember if they say it in the show, but the immigrants probably came in through the Port of Galveston, then came up to Fort Worth. They were probably farmers and craftsmen from small villages in Eastern Europe, so didn't need to hunt themselves. Basically the route they will take is from Forth Worth to Missouri, then pick up the Oregon Trail there (in Independence or Westport/Kansas City). This was the normal route for cattlemen in Texas and Oklahoma to get their stock north to St. Louis. By this time period there was less traffic on the Oregon Trail, because some of the railroads were already completed to the West Coast.

The South was a ruined place following the Civil War, abject poverty amongst even the once rich. The Reconstruction Era-Defeat was rough for the South. So it makes sense that a Southern Family like The Duttons might want to seek their livelihood in the West.

I gotta say. Love 1883 more then yellostone. Very well written and directed. I was really sad when it was over. That this tragic story was over.

I love and hate this show. I think it broke me as a person.

The Germans would have landed in Indiola Texas it was the biggest port in Texas at the time and wear most Germans landed at the time

  • @digitalsoldier-1742

These non English speaking immigrants could have landed in TX via ship through the Gulf of Mexico; which I believe is more likely than landing on the east coast and heading inland. It's the best explanation for people w/o horses, wagons...guns. imo

Never seen someone think they know so much about the wild west and be so wrong about everything

  • @AlexSants75

Every speech of Sam Elliot is epic in this show.

This show is so fucking good. So much better than Yellowstone. It just has so much more heart. Sheridan writes better when he doesn't stretch the story and has the ending in his mind from the beggining.

Isabel May is absolutely excellent in this series. This is Isabel story

  • @TwilightProtectionK9

Smallpox not measles - a terrible disease, and highly contagious.
