17:10 Dubovs fitness routine: "in summer i go outside and find a bar, thats it" My fitness routine is exactly the same, its just a different kind of bar
It is a shame that Daniel has been away from the chess scene mostly because of the war, he is definitely one of the most talented attackers, which is the kind of player you need to be to beat Magnus.
it's not only about attacking, he also got the nerves of steel. Like Wei Yi is a great attacker, but he chokes a lot in important moments esp against Magnus
I was thinking basically the same thing, but I couldn’t put my finger on it until you said it! He also acts and carries himself in s very “street wise” and nonchalant manner…not afraid or intimidated by anyone.
@vcliburn it does some strange props to my favorite gm but let me assure the way he talks does not fit to stand up guys with Russian blood wherever in the world. On behalf of those people. Street-wise. Well. May be.
Dubov is a rock star in chess, a cool guy with a chin like Alex Turner and a reason to watch chess. And above all, an interesting guy. What's not to like?
Omg, I'm so excited!! 🎉 Daniil's Russian pod has been on my to-watch list forever, but it's a challenge to find time to *read* the subtitles vs passively listening to the pod in the background. Already can't wait for the next episode
Daniil remains my favourite player, even over those higher rated, because of his originality, candour and humour. I really wish him all the best in his quest to become even stronger.
Recently got into Chess - very much enjoying your informative and in-depth interviews. Great to see multiple perspectives from GMs across many topics. Cheers!
Great interview! Dubov is a very interesting player to listen to - surely most viewers won't agree with everything he said, but it's very thought-provoking, which is always a good thing. And as a side note: His laid-back way of sitting in that chair might be unique among top chess professionals 🙂
Great guy, saw recently a video of him, where he showed the power of his arms - this guy is physically much stronger than you think - he did pull - ups with one hand, cool guy
22:16 If you beat Ding or not, it's not that big of a deal... I mean, you could do that. It's better than *not* beating Ding. 💀 I didn't know Daniil was so funny! I need to watch more of his interviews now
21:21 👀 Oo... I didn't know Daniil admires Fabi! I listen to C^2, but I feel like Fabi escapes most of the chess discourse bc Magnus is so dominant and there's so many big personalities like Hikaru, the whole Indian squad, Hans...
That is with everybody, even you and me, for what if, like Qs. It looked to me that he is one of those guys who gets some initial success but then is not dedicated, hardworking, and self-proclaimed genius. He looked very arrogant and lazy, who didn't achieve anything substantial apart from winning one or two tournaments here and there. don't be like him.
Seems like a very down to earth guy and I think he's on the money. Practice, and information that's been sucked up one way or another is what one needs to make seemingly original brilliant art on the board such as Dubov is known for.
What Daniil is saying around the 14 min mark is what happens to me when I see and old movie or show that I don't consciously remember seeing... It feels like I'm guessing at the ending, or figuring it out, but I'm so good at it that I suspect my feelings and thoughts are really the shadow of memory.

Ok dubov! Very likable ruthless attidude 💀 . I know you had it before, but much better now that u re grown up and target mature targets! Looking forward xd
Two Russian guys speaking English to please the international audience haha don’t know why but it makes me laugh 🤣 Спасибо за еще один подкаст с Дубовым, всегда приятно его послушать ✊👍
Very interesting interview. It appears that Dubov is overconfident and saying things to impress..but everything he says is true.He is a very mature and intelligent person.
Many people here are mad about the way Dubov talks about the new indian school of chess, however it’s very obvious he’s lamenting about something that’s beyond the individual players lol. Dubov is talking about the issue of how computers have revolutionised the game of chess, particularly sucking out the creative and brilliant aspects of it, making it instead a game of memory and study. He talks about young indian players a lot because they are the best representatives of this newer approach to chess. Sure, the way he express himself is very blunt, but that’s the russian style. He’s not wrong in saying that the new chess meta is vomiting as many top engine moves in every line you decide to play as you can remember.
@@adityapacharne5688 What you said doesn’t really make sense in the context. It’s not like Dubov is talking about not wanting to adapt, he even explained how his new approach is exactly the same as that of the new generation of indian players. He’s just lamenting how this change is ruining and will ruin chess in the long run, and even predicting the paths that chess will have to take in the future to not be a boring game of memorisation. No one here is talking about refuting change, the topic was always how this change is effectively ruining the game.
What nonsense are you talking, Gukesh never used engine in his formative years..... he has an amazing intuitive ability. His opening repertoire was very limited. I am sure, he is way more talented naturally than your puppet Magnus. Your guy is just salty that Indians are taking over the Russian dominance. Basially US just has Hans, the rest are just borrowed players from Japan, Italy, Armenia and even Indonesia
Would have loved to hear his overall take on Gukesh. Especially after his board 1 domination in the olympiad 2024. I wonder if he also like his russian compatriots Ian and Grischuk considers him a 'mystery'.
We need to stop caring about these 'expert opinions' regarding the prodigies now. They have grown up and surpassed almost all of them. Just sit back and laugh at these salty gentlemen.
@@MinasanKonnichiwa777 Nah dude. I respect all of them greatly. They moved the needle in their time. We should be humble like the Prodigies that represent our nation are. Also Dubov is a very awesome individual. Have heard his podcasts and he always talks a lot of sense.
@@divyanshuchadha8210 Carry on then 😄 Let them accuse the kids of cheating and call them no-lifers. I don't respect such behavior (regardless of their talent) and just ignore them like white noise.
@@MinasanKonnichiwa777 No one accussed the kids of cheating. Kramnik did some drama during the olympiad but I have already lost respect for him. But other russian players like Dubov, Grischuk, Ian,etc are always very respectable towards the youngsters. We must not put them in the same bracket as Kramnik who just talks a lot of nonsense.
@@divyanshuchadha8210 Sorry for the confusion but I wasn't even referring to Kramnik (at least he has the courage and courtesy to speak his mind clearly and admits he is sometime eccentric). I was referring to Nepo and his friends. Let me direct you a few of their actions and then you can decide for yourself . The 'mystery' comment about Gukesh - did you see the whole interview after Candidates on CSquared Podcast? Nepo said Gukesh never had a losing position the whole tournament, and said he warned a FIDE official in January that Gukesh would win the candidates but they didn’t take his warning seriously obviously. Later Grishchuk too said Gukesh was a mystery with a smirk in his face. Ok next, Dennis Lazavik the kid who qualified for finals of Champions Chess Tour last year. Nepo accused him (you can find those tweets). Chesscom cleared him completely and made videos on how talented kids like Lazavik often face accusations from the top guys. Next, when Abhimanyu Mishra became the youngest GM he insinuated that the the GM norm tournament was a fishy one (involving match fixing). Nepo was the main guy who spread the paranoia about Hans's OTB cheating when he was 19 (this is the least serious among all because Hans was actually an online cheater in the past). Anyways the list goes on and you get the point. If you look up the internet you will find many many more instances of cheating accusations.
He is not a great player but he is a very creative player. Always comes with some new ideas in settled lines. That's why he's a second of Magnus for years.
love the podcast, maybe you could switch the digital board in the blitz, because the guest is playing black and sitting on the left but you are playing white from the right side?
