    I find it so ironic how Splatoon 2 has had a long reputation for being much more balanced than Splatoon 1 and having a broader meta, only for the current Splatoon 2 meta to end up being so similar to early Splatoon 1, especially with K-52 basically being Splatoon 1 96 2.0. Like, obviously Splatoon 2 doesn't have crazy stuff like 1-shot indirects, roller flicks always being 1-shot, and stuff, but it does have many striking parallels now, especially with the Gals.

    • @TheLaXandro
      @TheLaXandro 3 года назад +18

      It's actually a pretty decent kit, RG in 2 would kill to have something half as coherent. It was hilariously effective on TC, even amidst all the invincibility spam and QRSJ.
      S1 Aero was way more accurate too, especially after they made jump RNG the exact same as grounded RNG. The maps were smaller and most things not called Dynamo painted worse in 1 than in 2, so its inking was even more valuable back then. Aero actually paints a bit worse in 2, most weapons got more usable fill painting in 2 (Jr and Splash especially, they drench everything now, but even things like Pro got better) but Aero was always an impact inker so it's bothered more by loss of inking range that came with universal range reduction in S2.

      Well, as someone that was there for early Sploon 1 where Turf War was the only mode, it had the uncontested best painting power in the game at the time (Sploosh wouldn't come till later), and very few people were using chargers or other dedicated slaying weapons (besides Krak-On and Forge Pro, but nobody had Forge Pro until a few days after launch), plus while Ink Mine is garbage doodoo butter, it had Inkstrike, which was the best special for painting, and could also be launched at the very end of the match for absolutely free points which often decided close games.

As someone who hasn't played Splatoon 1, it's amazing to watch the visual differences between the two games - the less saturated color scheme, the animations, heck, even how much more fluid the gameplay feels now on Splatoon 2. They kind of feel like different games to play (even not considering the weapon, specials, etc differences) and I bet this feeling is right. I am so excited to play Splatoon 3 on launch and nerd over those really small details. Compare it to Splatoon 2 and notice how different it was. Splatoon 1 has always fascinated me with what stuff that got passed testing in the first release. It kinda reminds me of Gen 1 Pokemon. I remember getting this game on my birthday, and just having a great time with the game, even if I was just using the Aerospray RG, lol. It's slightly embarrassing to say that I pretty much used the RG through the entirety of Splatoon's lifetime, until around the time Splatoon 2 was first shown. The struggle of getting to S+ was real... It was the only weapon I reached with max turf on, so I guess I'm proud of that. But that's the time where I finally found my second main, in the CoroCoro Splat Roller. And now I'm juggling between those two, E-Liter, and a few other weapons as well, because I still play the game occasionally. (Incidentally, the CoroCoro is the reason why the Flingza Roller is my main in 2)
    Whenever I feel like I don't want to deal with the mess that is K52, Ink Armor and Missile spam, I'm glad I can just go back to a chaotic time where Stealth Jump was absurd, specials were a good kind of chaos, and where damage up... still kinda took over the meta. It feels like there's a certain... Energy in Splatoon 1 that you don't get in Splatoon 2, and it's why I keep coming back to it sometimes.

    I think that's a little better than the checkpoint system as everything in Splatoon 2 seems to revolve around the checkpoints and the one in 1 feels more natural and fluent to play

    You might think I am crazy but I actually loved it. There's some charm to the lack of balance. Back then I never payed any attention to the internet or the "meta" or the stats/gear. I just played what I wanted and quickly rose to S rank as a kid. I was actually upset a little later when I found out what everyone hated with things like the arrow spray, I always thought that kind of weapon was mid but fun and wide for spreading paint

      You're not crazy. I'm sad that I'll probably never think any of the sequels are as fun as the first game. And I feel exactly the same way about the aerospray.

      @@stevenseufert2520 Well Splatoon 3 has been insanely fun and the best of both worlds so far, I don't know if you have played it. But it lives up to the original even if they all have little things to love about them. I still play Splatoon 1 occasionally since it's just insanely fun but I have been having the time of my life with 3 so far. I loved 2 too but there were some things I didn't like about it versus 1, but it also had Octo Expansion which is just 200/10.

      @@willwunsche6940 I probably put in about 20 hours already over this release weekend. I play Splatoon 3 because at its core I just really love Splatoon.
      One of my biggest gripes is the problems I have aiming with the motion controls on the Switch games. The Wii U gamepad had superior motion controls compared to the Switch pro controller. The gamepad had 9 axes of motion sensing (3 axes from the gyroscope, 3 axes from the accelerometer, and 3 axes from a magnetometer) whereas the pro controller has 6 axes of sensing (gyroscope and accelerometer). I didn't have issues with the gamepad (and I recently tested it again this weekend just to make sure I wasn't misremembering). The gamepad had perfect syncing motion controls. In contrast, I have issues turning left/right properly on the pro controller (I've messed with the sensitivity controls plenty). I would usually win duels in the first game, but in the Switch games I'm dying all the time because of this problem. :(

    • @willwunsche6940
      @willwunsche6940 2 года назад

      @@stevenseufert2520 I totally agree with the input lag and motion controls being better on Wii U. Hopefully you are able to adapt and do better on Switch though. Remember just have fun
      We are living in a timeline where we get more Splatoon games and can play Splatoon on the go. I walked over to my friend's house every single day to play Splatoon pre and post launch and used money I had been saving up for +3 years to buy a Wii U despite knowing it was a dying console for Splatoon. The idea of playing Splatoon mobile and playing more Splatoon games is a dream come true to me. Even if it isn't perfect they significantly improved the motion controls on 3 versus 2 at least with what they can and the game is still incredible

    This is so nostalgic! I was playing whwn I was 11, but trust that whwn I discovered chargers, E-Liters specifically, I could not get enough of the Kraken special. I was a kid rage quitting at falling through grates on Bluefin Depot, but I never thought the weapons themselves were too crazy ^^' looking back ir was WILD, I remember whwn Splatoon came out and finding myself disappointed with a lotta the special. But I came to appreciate the "balance" of it. Having played the Splatoon 3 global testfire, I cannot wait to see how people will use certain weapons/specials, I'm so pumped !

    I remember to this day splatoon 1 had this VERY distinct "progression" to its weapons on launch where most of what you unlocked later was considered better than what you got early and you were seen as a hotshot. Aerospray beat splattershot pro beat splattershot beat jr, Dynamo beat carbon beat splat, e-liter beat charger beat squiffer. In splatfest particularly you were considered really cool if you had one of the gold weapons or a hero weapon that wasnt shot and EVERYONE ran those to look cool, right up to the last splatfest.
