This video gives me that same feeling towards Octobrush, a weapon that had it’s uses back in Splat 1 and 2, but it’s starting to struggle quite a bit in Splat 3.
It’s less of the weapon/kit itself and more of the environment of the game And honestly there were only a couple of s2 one-tricks using the weapon, so it’s nowhere near as similar as dynamo
I’ve never used octobrush, but I play splat charger which octobrush users love to splat, and I think a lot of it is, big surprise, the maps. In S2 octobrush users love to maneuver behind backliners to splat them, but most maps in this game are incredibly hard to flank on unless you’re already spawn camping the other team. Haggle fish Market is a good example I think - the backliner perch on that map would be great for punishing chargers, splatlings, and sloshers, but because there’s only one way to get into that area, it’s incredibly hard to do so without your entire team pushing into their spawn. I usually get walled by Eliters because their range is so good, so I miss having brush users clearing out the area so I can advance ;w;
As someone who plays octobrush for fun in splat 3, I can confirm that the maps definitely hurt the weapon a lot. Octobrush is a weapon that was designed to use flanks and approach opponents from a variety of routes, but those routes don’t exist on a lot of maps. Even on good maps (like flounder), octobrush still struggles cause it’s damage is pretty awful and inconsistent (something it didn’t have in spat 1 thanks to damage up) and it’s a 200p short ranged zipcaster weapon. It isn’t nearly as bad as dynamo, but it’s still bad and also gets outclassed by similar weapons like tri.

As a former main, it is so sad to see what it has become. The lack of care for some weapons after s2’s nerfs is insane. Hopefully nintendo starts caring
great video as per usual Chara. This one really gave me a sense of what Dynamo was once capable of and could be capable of if they properly buffed it. Sad to see one of the cooler concepts be so weak though :(
I think that dynamo’s biggest problem is still the vertical flick,so maybe the splatoon devs could give the vertical flick something like a minimum two shot at a distance and a one shot at a certain distance,or they can just rid of vertical on dynamo
i love playing dynamo and i use it as one of my mains because as a weapon (moreso as a concept) it is just genuinely so fun, and its so sad to see how its just been completely left in the dust in the new game. same thing with my other main, bamboozler, which still has mpu nerfs from splatoon 2
Occasionally, down in here in Turf War, there's a random Dynamo main who, out of nowhere, shreds the match to pieces. It's rare, but sometimes, the former glory shines through on teams of half-asleep post-workday mid twenty year olds splat boomers who haven't moved on in years from the good old days
No, you're actually correct. They did forget about the Gold Dynamo…but not the way you think at all. Based on what I've really observed, the reason it was Gold Dynamo in the reveal trailer, promo material, and everything is LITERALLY just because it's a mistake lmao. Think about it in this exact question: - Why was it the only alternate kit look shown ANYWHERE in trailers or promo material, and why specifically Dynamo? Most likely the answer is they genuinely forgot that Gold Dynamo was not the original look of the weapon (or a miscommunication of that sort) when doing the promo renders and trailer material. See the tableturf card for regular Dynamo? It has the octoling who wielded the gold one in the trailer and some promo renders. *It was never meant to be shown*
This is what I was thought when you were started reviewing the weapons. The merits of the weapon's actual functions. Of course even if you streamlined out the kit variants it still would've been a 2-3 more videos to walk through all of them before touching on the actual kits. Which would've been a lot for just slightly more foundation on each kit's goodness.
I LOVE the dynamo roller, I know it is one of the most niche rollers but I play it because I would rather be in A with big funny weapons than be in S with top tier weapons
It crazy that Nintendo tries to buff the rollers in every way besides making them consistently do decent damage, they litterally nerfed splat rollers one shot range when it got to 3 for some reason
How to give dynamos vertical flick a unique gimmick: make the minimum and maximum damage 500 on both (same thing for its horizontal flick but 250 damage instead of 500).
I want a scope to be added to the rollers similar to how scopes revert chargers to the Splatoon 1 Counterpart which aren't able to hold a charge. I like the idea of no matter what putting a scope on anything reverts it to the Splatoon 1 Counterpart but instead to fit the theme they should be the Caps of pens. These caps should disable the horizontal flick in exchange for flinging the hitbox further away.
Hey Chara, would you ever consider doing a video series where you talk about the strengths and weaknesses of every weapon/special, going over how to use it to its fullest extent, how to support it as a team/teammate, and how to play against it?
I like the idea of dynamo's vertical flick being change to be a super wide horizontal slash with a big arc of paint and solid minimum damage. It's hard to compare to something that exists in the game now, but think about a splatling sweeping in like a 120 degree cone fairly quickly in terms of the kind of look and feel it'd be, with the same range as current Dynamo horizontal flick. The speed of the flick will also be improved to about Flingza vertical speed. With this change, the horizontal flick will be made to reach out farther, to about current vertical flick range, and narrowed in wideness to about half the width. It'll have the narrowest horizontal flick of all the rollers probably, somewhat close to Carbon's wideness, but it's wider than all the vertical flicks in terms of damage dealing and would have longer range then all of them as well. This also indirectly buffs the consistency of the paint and damage as the holes in the wave that Dynamo tends to have will be made much smaller with it being narrower and closer together. With these changes, they can switch up the roles of the two flicks so the vertical can be the more combat based used and tied to being in the air and more mobile, while the horizontal flick will be better positioned to be the reliable poking and painting the Dynamo used to be known for. I was a big Dynamo hater in Splatoon 1 simply because it felt so overbearing even though I liked the design of the playstyle, which is funny to admit as a Painbrush main, but no weapon deserves to have its identity stripped away and given to other weapons without something in return. It is quite sad.
People could be born, start school, graduate high school with all As, graduate collage with 4 PhDs, publish 2 books, start a family, have 1 kid, have another kid, get divorced, get married, have one more kid, make a documentary, get a disease, then die, have a funeral, and this thing would be mid vertical flick
Looking at this splat 1 footage and it's very clear the paint it outputs from a high height doesn't deteriorate nearly as much if at all compared to splat 2 and beyond.
Playing the dynamo in splatoon 2 vs splatoon 3 is like night and day. I felt like it was easier to play in splatoon 2, it has a more higher ink coverage imo and it seems to cost less ink, it's also somehow faster??? But Playing it in splatoon 3 just feels so pointless. I can't tell you how many times I've hit someone dead center with the dynamo and NOT kill them, yet in the 2nd one, one flick towards the center and I wipe out that person and probably the person behind them if they're damaged. It just makes me feel so sad. The dynamo is a weapon that should be a high risk but high reward weapon, but now it just feels like a high risk and that's it.
huh, this made me remember how much I feared Dynamo rollers in splatoon 1 and now I just see a Dynamo on the enemy team and im like oh we're fine. Even though Dynamo was scary back then I would love to see Dynamo be more threatening again :/
-Well if I can give the dynamo a niche it’s salmon run -It’s roll is so powerful it can turn any basic salmon of any size into a pancake, a lifesaver in Glowfly waves, and steamroll Cohozuna -Even still it’s quite ink hungry and not good against something like the Fishstick, it kind of struggles in Griller waves due to the well Griller’s, and when you have to fight something like the Horroboros with this thing it feels miserable due to it being in the air -Even still if the hydra is in the rotation that thing shreds through literally anything with it possibly only weakness in that mode being flyfish and maybe maws -Even still it’s nice to see the weapon that fell from grace have a niche in a mode where every salmon just runs into you
With dynamo being one of my mains I am used to losing matches because the weapon won’t kill at point blank range because of a squid roll or lag. I only main it because it’s fun when it sometimes works.
This video has amazing timing. I just returned to splatoon 3 after not playing since splatoon 1 where I had hundreds of hours on dynamo. I came back genuinely excited to play it again and unlock it but now when I play it I just feel useless. Even when I do well on the thing I cant help but feel like I would have been able to do the same thing on V splat roller or Flingza. I have relegated to playing Flingza and being a tenta missles bot until this this thing gets a new kit or at least some buffs
IDK how complicated it would be for the Devs, but what if Dynamo just didn’t have a Vertical flick? Make it unique in that fact, or just make it so it’s just a bit faster on its windup speed (either by means of Cooler’s Speed buff or a buff to the weapon itself)
Veteran Dynamo player here, both splat 1 and now 3. I'd say the best fix would be to remove dynamo's vertical flick outright. The only vertical flicks you will do are unintentional ones, and they grief your would-be kills, especially when squid-surging (which is often unintentional as well). Increasing the range of the horizontal slightly to compensate would be nice, but even without a damage boost just removing the vertical would be a buff for the weapon. Essentially returning dynamo to it's splat 1 days of being an immovable tank with a consistent and desirable one-shot range. It needs its unique identity back.
If they dont bring dynamo back to its full potential in a future update or the next game, im going to silently weep in the corner with my sad big ol roller.
I'll try to name as many reasons on why Dynamo fell off before the vid premiere. It's slow, ink hungry, the hitbox is inconsistent, it gets outclassed even with good kits, and it can't paint its feet quickly thanks to being slow. Also vertical flick exists.
The worst offender is that up close you can squid surge parry a flick then proceed to kill the dynamo user If you know how to do this tech the weapon actually cant kill you
I remember in Splatoon 1 how threatening Dynamo rollers were and it was often difficult to approach them. Still somewhat threatening in Splatoon 2. In Splatoon 3, I don't recall anyone that made that weapon difficult to deal with. Dynamo roller is still useful somewhat in Salmon Run, especially against Glowflies.
it would be really cool if instead of the vertical flick they gave it something unique to it in particular, like how slosher has that little tail of chip damage if you turn while using it. giving it a new versatile tool instead of what it has that it can use creatively would do it a lot of good I think
I mained dynamo and slosher since S1 to see dynamo fall from grace is really sad, seriously the painting of the dynamo has the consistency of a roulette wheel
One idea I’ve always had for dynamo was that rolling should charge the weapon up in some way. After all it’s called a dynamo. A dynamo (if I’m not mistaken) is something that converts motion energy into electric energy. I have one on my bike wich powers the light on it. It always seemed weird to me that this was never implemented into the weapon. My personal idea would be to have rolling charge up some sort of meter wich would then power up the vertical flick. What changes would that give? For a basic idea just more range and damage but why not use the triple vertical flick from the octo samurai instead? Three super fast flicks with a lot of range and 60-70 damage at the downside of them being on the ground and incapable of going over walls. Add that to the basic buffs it desperately needs and I’d main that thing
I like this idea. Imagine charging up for a crazy V-flick that a longer range and better one-shot hitbox. That would give enemy players more reason to fear it.
I think a good buff would be if Intensify Action Boosted the Speed of the Roller Flicks, but that's an Intensify Action buff and it buffs the entire class of rollers, and maybe a damage Buff cloud help it since Big Swig took the Painting job permanently, something like making its minimum from the horizontal go from 40 to 50, while the Vertical go from 40 to 60
I wish they changed the way vertical flicks (and SBlast's short range) so you HAVE to be holding the jump button to activate it, otherwise it'll always be a horizontal flick. And leave rollers' horizontal squid surge too
Back when I played Splatoon 1, I’d see my life flash before my eyes as I see a Dynamo Roller wind up its flick. Now I just kinda shrug it off and go about my business, painting turf, focusing on objective, Splatling the Dynamo… etc. At least it’s good in Salmon Run.
It would be cool if they added the ability for rollers to buffer a horizontal flick out of squid surge by pressing ZR before you release B on the surge. I think it might take a little getting used to but would end up feeling really good and natural. If you want to cancel the charge and attack, you can just let go of ZL
Considering that Flingza with nearly identical vert to Dynamo's horizontal doesn't use squid rolls either, I don't think that will help Dynamo much. It would make Flingza a lot better but Dong will remain locked out of those options, similar to splatlings.
Been a full time dynamo main since the start of splat 2 (didnt have splat 1) and im kinda glad i didnt get acquainted with it in the first game, i think id just be too disapointed to ever play it again
Dynamo in name and design, is the weapon that should instill fear in the players. Slow and Bulky, but a terror in the right hands. You want that moment where you see the opposing team, one player with a dynamo, and you instantly have that sense of DREAD.... as you wonder if this is somebody just playing around with the big fun swingy stick...... or somebody who is about to bring absolute ruin to the battlefield.
I still use it in solo queue with charge up/special saver. It is still kinda sad, but most people just simply don’t expect a frontline/slayer dynamo so it does ok
i used to main kensa dynamo along with other weapons in splatoon 2, i miss it so dearly, i hope they bring some buffs to the weapon or give it a better kit, or i might have to look into other weapons with a similar playstyle...

Sucks that dynamo went from an amazing weapon in s1 to a weak one :(
Occasionally, down in here in Turf War, there's a random Dynamo main who, out of nowhere, shreds the match to pieces. It's rare, but sometimes, the former glory shines through on teams of half-asleep post-workday mid twenty year olds splat boomers who haven't moved on in years from the good old days
i’m one of those turf war dynamo mains
I swear Nintendo forgot about gold dynamo
Wait what weapon?
No, you're actually correct. They did forget about the Gold Dynamo…but not the way you think at all.
Based on what I've really observed, the reason it was Gold Dynamo in the reveal trailer, promo material, and everything is LITERALLY just because it's a mistake lmao. Think about it in this exact question:
- Why was it the only alternate kit look shown ANYWHERE in trailers or promo material, and why specifically Dynamo?
Most likely the answer is they genuinely forgot that Gold Dynamo was not the original look of the weapon (or a miscommunication of that sort) when doing the promo renders and trailer material. See the tableturf card for regular Dynamo? It has the octoling who wielded the gold one in the trailer and some promo renders. *It was never meant to be shown*
Don't forget the Tempered Dynamo
Dynamo had a terrifying aura for new players lol
Honestly with how annoying rollers are to fight, I hope they stay bad for a while.
No they didn’t? The only roller change in this entire game (besides pfs) was not only a buff, but a buff to dynamo’s damage on the horizontal
@@cousinparty7266 because dynamo was nerfed on lauch
@@Dula8207 dynamo was nerfed launch s2, not s3
@@filipmarkovic369what do you main shooters I suppose
Welcome to Rollers. I really hope the roller class gets massive buffs soon.
The closest thing to the pure power S1 Dynamo had for me is Stamper, kinda makes me scared for when the leaked heavy Splatana is added
Man I only picked up dynamo once it sucked back in splatoon 2- I can't imagine it being good, but I really hope it gets the buffs it needs!
Good vid chara, keep thiese coming to keep us reminded (not that it wasn't obveous Dynamo fell of xD) 👑🦑
Nice new pfp btw! 👍
Yup! Dynamo sure has it's "Coolest" kit yet! Well said Chara ;)
huh, this made me remember how much I feared Dynamo rollers in splatoon 1 and now I just see a Dynamo on the enemy team and im like oh we're fine. Even though Dynamo was scary back then I would love to see Dynamo be more threatening again :/
If nintendo gives dynamo a real vertical flick and consistent horizontal inking, i think id have a heart attack before getting to play it
I feel like a cool idea for the vertical flick would be to move the one shot hit box to the very front of it
-Well if I can give the dynamo a niche it’s salmon run
-It’s roll is so powerful it can turn any basic salmon of any size into a pancake, a lifesaver in Glowfly waves, and steamroll Cohozuna
-Even still it’s quite ink hungry and not good against something like the Fishstick, it kind of struggles in Griller waves due to the well Griller’s, and when you have to fight something like the Horroboros with this thing it feels miserable due to it being in the air
-Even still if the hydra is in the rotation that thing shreds through literally anything with it possibly only weakness in that mode being flyfish and maybe maws
-Even still it’s nice to see the weapon that fell from grace have a niche in a mode where every salmon just runs into you
Dynamo was actually very fun and usable in Splatoon 2 because of MPU and the Kensa kit. But now in Splatoon 3 it’s ☠️☠️☠️
I swear, either the Dynamo player is above you at all times, or they hit you full on in the face and you shrug it off. There is no in-between.
It'd be really funny if they straight up removed the vertical to buff it
With dynamo being one of my mains I am used to losing matches because the weapon won’t kill at point blank range because of a squid roll or lag. I only main it because it’s fun when it sometimes works.
R.I.P. Dynamo Roller

R.I.P Splatoon 1 battles 2017 - 2024
As a former S+99 player with the dynamo roller in Splatoon 1, that shit hurts
As a roller main who loves dynamo, I wanna cry after watching this

The entire roller class except for maybe flingza amd swig have MAJOR prominent consistency issues, ALL of them need a lot of help
Vertical flick should shoot out missiles at every enemy player
The worst offender is that up close you can squid surge parry a flick then proceed to kill the dynamo user
If you know how to do this tech the weapon actually cant kill you
@@ChunwunB I forgot that was possible. Poor Dynamo.
2 words:
Vertical, Flick.
Vertical is actually a really good tool for it. The only real issue is that it makes it incompatible with Splat3's movement mechanics.
Dynamo Roller is one if those weapons where if you use it, you can van either have the best match you'll ever do, or the worst match you'll ever see.
don't worry Chara, I'm sure this will be fixed once we get the Gold dynamo roller... if it ever happens
Every time you show Splatoon 1 footage Chara I get sad at how good the stages looked back then
Its only upside right now is how fun it is to use in Salmon Run with optimized slow rolling :'-)
“There’s almost no reason to use dynamo roller anymore” arider cosplay.
Oh man 0-0 I've seen so many splat weapon documentaries from other creators 0w0 now ProChara's makin them too
0:14 That is Jank.
while using the dynamo in the lobby, I noticed dummies going undamaged in the middle of my flicks
I mained dynamo and slosher since S1 to see dynamo fall from grace is really sad, seriously the painting of the dynamo has the consistency of a roulette wheel
I love how everyone says this is one of the worst weapons and still is dying for the gold dynamo
The devs: Name every roller
Me: The fast one, the regular one, and uh the trash one
I miss her
One idea I’ve always had for dynamo was that rolling should charge the weapon up in some way.
Splatoon devs doing a necromancy ritual rn
It would be cool if they added the ability for rollers to buffer a horizontal flick out of squid surge by pressing ZR before you release B on the surge. I think it might take a little getting used to but would end up feeling really good and natural. If you want to cancel the charge and attack, you can just let go of ZL
Considering that Flingza with nearly identical vert to Dynamo's horizontal doesn't use squid rolls either, I don't think that will help Dynamo much. It would make Flingza a lot better but Dong will remain locked out of those options, similar to splatlings.
Been a full time dynamo main since the start of splat 2 (didnt have splat 1) and im kinda glad i didnt get acquainted with it in the first game, i think id just be too disapointed to ever play it again
rip dynamo in splatoon 3
Glad he mentioned my main
I’m a Carbon Roller main who shifts to Gold Dynamo during Turf War when I find opposing teams frequently using Aerospray or other fast weapons.
I can't wait for gold dynamo to be given ink mine/vaccum
That's what the regular Dynamo would be given if it was up to me. My kit for the Gold Dynamo? Sprinkler and Reefslider.
If dynamos whole vertical flick oneshot, I think that would be cool
To broken I think it should be 70 at minimum
It's honestly rather insulting that Gold Dynamo is being used in promotional material despite not even being in the game
Dynamo:"I had a good kit and they gave me a shit one "
Community:"Nintendo whyd you nerf that guy?"
Nintendo:"I didnt!"
Gonna make a t-shirt that says "I was there when the dynamo died"
