Charcoal hair conditioner from Sally’s. Use it every time you wash for at least 2 weeks. It might take 3. Keep the rest of the conditioner in case it tries to come back in 2 months, and always cover your hair with a hat when it’s sunny. You can try going hatless next summer.
You are so good at explaining things. I don't know how much money you make, but a beauty school is such a high profit business. I believe you would be very successful.
I’m so glad you posted this! My hair was orange last week, and I did not want to re-lighten. I went to sally and grabbed Wella 8A permanent color to use with volume 10 developer. I wanted the Wella demi permanent color, but I didn’t see a level 8 ash. Anyway, the associate there was rude and said the level 8 would not work on how my hair and that it was too dark. I said I was fine with what I was using, and she rolled her eyes. She suggested I dye my hair a level 4 to fix it. Pfft. I eventually used Wella 8A permanent with a volume 10 developer, and my hair turned out beautiful! It’s a neutral beige light brown/ dark blonde. An easy fix when you have work the next day without using more bleach or dying dark brown.
I can't be the only one who badly needs this video. Been battling orange hair since i bleached it in November- finally just dyed it brown. I can't afford salon prices anymore, plus last time I left a lot broker and with plenty of still orange hair. 😩 Thank you Britnee for all that you do. I will definitely be referencing this video a lot in future. ❤ you're the best! 😊
I wanted to say thank you for all the information!! It has helped me so much. I decided to go back blonde and bleached my hair a week ago. I'm a natural redhead and followed your instructions on bleach, developer, and toner. After I bleached my hair it was a bit yellow (which it always is) and decided to tone with the T18 I seen in your other video. It made a tremendous difference. I still have a few little spots that are a little darker but it's a lot better than that pissy color hair. You're an excellent teacher. Thank you for the videos!
Learning all this for yourself is so fun. When I was younger I'd dye wool yarns and fabrics, later on I went at my hair. Love the mix of science and art.
Lady, I have watched many toning videos for darker hair, this is the BEST one. I’m a middle school teacher, and your explanation of the process is amazing. 🙏
This video was perfect and I found it at the right time. In an effort to save myself $150 for highlights, I thought I could color my hair and then do some bleached highlights myself. It had been well over a year since my last salon visit. I have short hair so it had mostly grown out. I had learned to cut my own hair during covid and thought what could go wrong. I’m a dark blonde and I bought a box of Revlon light blonde. And came up with a orange-ish/strawberry color. After your video I went and bought L’Oréal 7.5 medium ash blonde. It came out great. I’ll add some highlights in a couple of weeks but your tutorial was just what I needed. I also ordered the blue shampoo too. Thank you so much. I subscribed to your page and will follow you. Whew!!
You saved my hair. I listened to all your advice here and was able to neutralize my hair to a beautiful color temporarily until my hair gets healthier so thank you for this video! 💕
After watching so so so many other videos this is THE BEST video on how to fix this!!!. This is not the first time I come across this issue and although the solutions on other videos where a little similar NONE explained with this detail how to fix it. I was about to make a mistake and you definitely SAVED MY HAIR. Thank you so much ❤❤❤
You definitely saved my life! I never knew to go lighter using the color wheel. My roots are still natural color with a little salt. But I have a major demarcation bright orange line and ends section that's simply awful, so thanks so much for this information!!!
I love that you always go straight to the point. Thank you for your content. I used to go to a hairstylist in Brazil, and now, in Canada, it's too expensive, so I tried to do it by myself. I tried so many things to get rid of my orange tone when doing my hair. Now I just did a brown colour with the idea “of stop doing so many things on your hair,” and guess what? I can't see myself when I look in the mirror, and now I may have to bleach it all again?! I feel I did make many mistakes. OMG
You are the best!!! Finally someone breaks it down like crazzzyyy for someone like me who knows nothing about doing hair but somehow still does it at home because I’m broke and my regular hair is boring lol. Thank you for breaking it down and making sense ❤
I have orange right now. I wasn't even trying to go blonde. I had box dyed it dark brown but it was too dark (almost black). Every video I watched suggested a bleach bath. I followed the directions exactly (1:1:1) well it didn't just lift a shade, it lifted like 3 levels and is now clown wig orange. So this video was extremely timely! I just bought more brown box dye but this time I got a level 6, however after watching this I am considering returning it for a demi permanent.
girl do it! I tried to cover mine with dark brown permanent and I got some serious hot roots and brassy ends and it's even more fried. wish I had this yesterday. I'm "fixing it" with color luxe chocolate brown but it's too temporary and still too warm. Considering using the platinum color luxe for more toning/canceling. All that to say... just listed to our girl lol. And good luck!
I have dark auburn boxed color hair, with natural light brown roots showing mixed with grey. I’ve been watching all these videos, thought about bleach bath to lighten the red tones, I don’t like the hard contrast of red/brown re growth any anymore. Will my hair turn orange?! I would like to keep the greys covered without drastic results. Thanks you
@@nicolajustice9865 I'm the opposite of a pro but I have done exactly what you're talking about and yesss girl it will give you hot roots (orange). I would research (here on Brit's page) toners. SHes greattt at explaining toners. Just make surrrre you use a 10 developer anything higher will give you that hot root. I don't know much about covering grays yet but Sally's has some great color depositing shampoos/cond that is the easiest way to maintain roots if you don't want to get to technical. Good luck!!
Brittnee, can you do a video explaining the difference between the L’Oréal box colors and how you can transition to a more professional Color and what you recommend? Love love your videos
I have been bleaching my own hair for years now, and there was ONE time where my hair went orange, only one. Usually it comes out yellow, but I've always been able to fix it. One time I got sick and tired of the upkeep of being blonde, and I literally dyed it BLACK. My hair came out very dark and coppery, it looks awesome. But, after a while it gradually went lighter and lighter. So, I guess I'm meant to be blonde lol. Great video!
I want to lighten my mom's grey hair with white highlights. Can you do a video on grey hair care and how to lighten it and keep from yellowing please!? We love your videos because there's always something cool❤
Love this~ needed this!! I started in the back so I could hide if needed~ I needed. I have the bright orange your talking about 😆 tried t18 with 20 dev, nothing. Now I know why. Luckily I’m able to wait, because I lifted top of my hair and can cover the orange. YOU are brilliant and I appreciate you! Will be using this video and others to get that glorious white/silver hair I cannot find a hairdresser to do properly, and I’m over paying for not what I want. I’ll just learn from you! Thanks!!!❤
So happy you said it’s ok to bleach again. Did a box bleach forgot to add the sachet that boosts it into the bottle so have awful orange hair now lol. I intend to go purple but needed to be blonde first.
Tip for anyone going lighter and get orange, use fanola blue shampoo. I put on dry hair for a good 10 mins or more, the instructions say use on wet hair. I have both fanola, purple and blue I use with k8 mask. This is just maintenance but can be used on brunette too for a beautiful cool tone. ❤
Thank you for explaining this so simply, I think I watched a different video that I’m realizing said the same info just I had trouble understanding. It’s also nice to know I accidentally by chance did the right thing after my hair became orange from bleaching. I will wait until my hair is a little more healthy and decide if I want to go lighter.
You are WAY TOO BEAUTIFUL for that shirt!!!! On a serious note, I’m a 50 year old mom, well 55 to be exact, and you crack me up!!! Praying my shades eq project I’m doing turns out well.
Wow, I’ve always struggled with figuring out the level when my hair at an orange stage. Your suggestion of looking at it like it’s in black and white is such a great tip! This is a really helpful video! 🫶🏼
Ok so this may never get a response but it may at least make some people laugh sooo... here we go... I've been a studious student of Miss Genius Britt here (I literally can't get enough) and felt I knew my equations and color wheel so in the efforts to go from brassy blonde balayage to dark mushroom blonde I used all our girl's techniques and guidelines (except I used permanent.. regrets) to darken. It was perfection... technique on point even left myself some beautifully blended blonde ends but then instead of toning the orange I decided to use a blue deposit ... I've done it before ... but I switched brands. When I tried to rinse my the blue from my hands and the PAINT wouldn't budge I knew I was in trouble. Flash forward to high-pigment blue everywhere. Next up... 2 dawn dish soap washes and a panicked bleach bath. Now I'm blonde blue.. still hella splotchy. Decided to just go dark brown but ya girl watched the color fill video and I did the *right* thing and did a copper fill. Welp... the (permanent) brown I put over it didn't even touch the vibrant orange.. except in patches of course. So now I'm drenching my hair in deeeeep conditioners and slathering on cocoa color luxe to at least deepen the copper. It's helping but I have to do it every shower. I don't have the budget or patience for this. So I'm over here with my trashy damaged hair mourning my natural hair ... ironically.. the dark mushroom blonde. Oh and did I mention I cut my bangs? Hell hath fallen upon me. Can't stop thinking about pulling a GI Jane. Send restraints 🤟
Regretfully, I can relate to this! My hair has been orange (this time around cause it's happened before) for months! And here's the kicker - I'm cool toned, so it's making me look pale/sickly. I can hardly wait to watch this video!
Yup been there!!!!!!!! My friend taught me how to color but I’ve had some mess ups. Lol Thank goodness I have a ton of hair cause I can mess it up. Currently copper highlights trying to lighten the black from doing my grays. It’s a process. Good story.
Thanks for saving me from another bleaching process! I took the second option, chose an ashy light blonde and it didnt turn darker or more brassy! Im mexican with dark hair, its very difficult to get a nice blonde with my orangy hair 😅😅
So glad I found this, my hair was a blah auburn.. jot what was on the box but it happens. Figure I would lighten a few shades hopefully get to strawberry blonde, better shade than I was sporting.. OMG the brightest orange. & of course 10pm no sally's available. So as just a cover , I just so happened to have brown root spray to use all over carefully! Had work & couldn't sport the neon orange. So glad to see this so I won't have to buy a wig
This was really helpful. Overbleached my hair a while ago and am orange…just put a toner in and it didn’t turn out as expected as per usual but I always end up with a tinge of green. I pre-pigmented last time I did a full head colour (have to keep colouring because of grey roots)…I hate my hair but this was really helpful with how to deal with the ends as I always make it too dark
This video is such perfect timing for me, thank you! I just used high lift ion cool blond to lift my roots (after watching your videos) and they turned out a perfect level 7 light orange (from a solid level 2). Such a good result with one session at home. The rest is level 9/10. I have been working towards a diy platinum/silver for years now, but working with semi permanents. I'm going demi to tone this time with Shades EQ, with a shadow root, again thanks to your videos. I think without seeing this I would have mixed it too dark. 😢 BTW, the shades I chose were 6T, 7V, and 8V, and of course clear. After watching this, I'm going to mix 1tsp 6T, 1tsp 7V, 4tsp 8v, a 6 tsp clear for the first go, roots first, ends last. I'll go back in for a shadow root if necessary if the orange isn't completely neutralized (which it probably won't be but that's ok). Thank you for helping out us home hair obsessors!
I love your content so much. When that happened to me, I just used peroxide, without bleach, to get my hair a bit lighter after an orange bleaching result. After that I put some ash toner (Wella Live drops in Ice Silver) and sorted.
Thanks ☺️ really enjoying your channel I have learnt so much about hair I bleached my hair today it’s at a level 7 , I will wait a few days then lighten it again , 😊 do I use 30vol again or can I use 20vol to lighten it again? I want to get to a 8-9 ash beige blonde
This was so helpful. My hair is definitely lighter than the video. I'd say two levels lighter , creamsicle orange, on my three inch roots and the inside of a banana color to the midshaft and down. In the shower today, there was some breakage for the first time ever. Thank goodness I have enough hair for 3 people- still not ideal though. I was doing my darndest not to overlap but alas- some must have. I do not want to bleach my roots again for fear that I get bleach on the rest of my hair and wind up with a mullet. I'm doing some protein and conditioning treatments tonight. If I didn't have an event to go to Saturday I'd leave it alone for a few weeks but I can't. I'm going to try my usual Ion Demi 9na. Probably do the roots first and then just very carefully bring it down into the rest. Judging by your video, I think it will work well. I'm a little worried the rest of my hair is too porous- so I might just wind up with a bob by the time this travesty is done. Nevertheless, this was a super helpful video. I wasn't sure if I should use a darker toner, than I usually use. So this helped me out ALOT.
I lightened my hair last month and ended up with gold. What I really wanted was a soft pink. I used a bright pink dye and washed it off within a minute and it was perfect. But it’s such a hassle because I have so much hair to go through! Is there a light pink dye you recommend that would work on gold orange or a trick maybe add something to dilute it so I can do my whole hair at once? I really don’t want bright pink hair
If you wanted a balayage appearance would you get two semi permanent dyes? One to blend From your roots down and one for everywhere else? Or could you start with your roots and then go back in with the same color but with some conditioner or water mixed in?
Thank you! This is me right now. I have an Wella “activating lotion” and also a sh*t ton of the Saloncare 10 v developer. Would either of those work with the one you used?
I saw a different video before, so my first attempt to correct brassy level 8 highlights, I used level 8N Ion Demi with 10 developer on dry hair and it darkened it two shades down. The next time I used 7A permanent with 10 developer on damp hair. It worked well. I’m going back to my natural color. I’m tired of paying big bucks in salons and getting bad results. Be careful with bleach, ladies. Too much damage and upkeep and it’s difficult to do yourself. Demi works better.
As I sit here with orange hair from bleaching 👀👀
Charcoal hair conditioner from Sally’s. Use it every time you wash for at least 2 weeks. It might take 3. Keep the rest of the conditioner in case it tries to come back in 2 months, and always cover your hair with a hat when it’s sunny. You can try going hatless next summer.

BTW, the shades I chose were 6T, 7V, and 8V, and of course clear.
Do you have to use a 10 vol for the toner if the hair is already compromised? Could you just use 6 vol to get the same results?
You’re such a great teacher. New sub here! ❤
So the only way to get it ash light blonde you would have to bleach it?
This was so helpful thank you 🥹
Great and excellent analysis. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you ❤❤❤❤
You saved me omg thank you 🙏 ❤
I colored my hair ginger blonde in April but would like to lighten it! Bleach is too strong for my hair. What would you recommend? I love your videos!
Im at this hair color stage & ready to change it. Could you help me ?? 😊
I have to say thank you I’m learning so much from you
Very informative ty
I love your videos… I have deep orange hair (buzz cut) this really helped
Thanks ☺️ really enjoying your channel I have learnt so much about hair I bleached my hair today it’s at a level 7 , I will wait a few days then lighten it again , 😊 do I use 30vol again or can I use 20vol to lighten it again? I want to get to a 8-9 ash beige blonde
I love how simple you explains the levels ❤
Best video on color correction! 💯
Great video!! 🔥
How often can you retone hair?
For the demi, if I only have 20vol at home can I mix with water or will that dilute it too much? This video is so helpful!
After watching this a couple times, you’ve inspired me to order some blue S&C for my peach mane.
Great video
Super helpful thank you!!!!
Amazing thank you
Wow, thank you for your advice.
Thank you for this! So in depth and accessibile :)
Thank you!! Un trying to figure out how to fix an orange mess 😢
Also, can you tell me what brand is your green top? I really like it! Thanks
Do you have a video for how to correct the yellow and orange on the other side? 😔
If you wanted a balayage appearance would you get two semi permanent dyes? One to blend
From your roots down and one for everywhere else? Or could you start with your roots and then go back in with the same color but with some conditioner or water mixed in?
Thanks for sharing
This is literally the best video I’ve ever seen. ❤
