- Have you ever seen someone fill a tamal like this? @hugo_gamino learned the technique from a coworker at a restaurant where he worked. His respect and reverence for the masa for tamales? He got it from his mama. These black bean and cheese tamales feature a masa that’s richly flavored with a mole-like sauce that also graces the tamales upon serving straight from their banana leaf wrappers.

What a great interpretation! Will there be a video following Hugo as he prepares the whole recipe?
Thank you for your positive feedback! While there won't be a follow-up video to this, Hugo has generously shared his recipe and directions on how to make these black bean and cheese tamales. You can find the detailed instructions on our website here: masienda.com/blogs/learn/black-bean-tamales
That looks fantastic!
You mean corntastic? 😃
Thank you so much! We're thrilled to hear that you find our black bean and cheese tamale recipe fantastic. We hope you give it a try!
This looks great. I already checked the recipe in your website. Please let me know what I can substitute the almonds with as I can’t eat almonds. Thanks!
We're glad you're excited about the recipe! If you can't eat almonds, you can try doubling the amount of pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds to replace the 3/4 cup of almonds. This should maintain the nutty texture and flavor in the sauce. Feel free to experiment and adjust according to your taste preferences. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. Enjoy cooking!
@@Masienda thanks!
What did you put in the masa, if I may ask.
Hi there. Thank you for your question! We used a blend of our masa harina, our homemade chile sauce for flavor and heat, and gradually mixed in warm chicken broth and oil until achieving a slightly more moist consistency than tortillas.
Thank you so much for responding. Sounds and looks amazing. My wife who is from Mexico really wanted to know. 😊
