In the US, the flour brand Maseca is actually pretty easy to find these days. Here in the Seattle area, at least three grocery chains carry it. I watch in both Spanish and English, so thank you for the recipes!

My husband and I love watching you. We are wanting to make pork tamales verde and rojo. We also are wanting to use banana leaves instead of corn leaves. Is there anyway you could do a video on pork tamales verdes y emojis in banana leaves? If not could you give me a good recipe for these for New Year's Day? My husband is from San Luis Potosí and his mother makes tamales picadillo ( carne molido, small chopped carrots, potatoes and peas)and I can not find any recipes for that kind of tamale so we changed it to pork tamales. Thank you for your great recipes.

Yes and thank you for letting me know that. Although Spanish is my second language, I thought it would be easier to listen to you in my first language , which is English. My husband and I did make the tamales and the masa turned out horribly dry and distasteful. The sauce was horrible too. It was pretty disappointing but I think we did not use enough lard and to much masa itself from the bag. ( we used 2 full bags of maseca and 4 cups of lard, 2 tablespoon of baking powder and 4 tbs of salt in the masa mixture) I also tried to make them thicker than the original mexican tamale which was a big mistake. Oh well, we learned our lesson and we will go by your recipe specifically if you could give it to me in English so I don't get the measurements mixed up through the translation. We go by tablespoon/ teaspoons/ cups in American recipes so that is helpful. Thank you so much for your reply and thank you also for translating your recipes. We really enjoy watching you. We would also love to make caldo de pollo if you haven't made it already, thanks again!

Did you buy the refried beans at the store or make them homemade?
