Loved seeing you on tour! Thanks for the lesson. I've had a break and in coming back to practice I've been wondering about simple fills. These are fun and most importantly are not too intimidating! Great stuff.
Thank you, Thank you!!! I am a new drummer and learning to count while playing is a challenge for me. I love what you said about taking it one note at a time and working it from there. I am so encouraged and can't wait to get back to my kit!!!!!
Great video Mike, a more informal vibe with Zac moving around and you referring to him as well as the play slings. A conscious shift in direction for you? Really accessible too.
What year did you play at Bizarre fest? I Was in Germany from 1997 to 2001 and attended Bizarre Fest in 2001. Saw Stained, 311, AAF, STP, Prodigy and much more. What did you think of the German audience? Thanks Mike.
I'm a righty, but my default flam is left grace and right accent. I notice you do default to the opposite and a lot of drummers do. Is this accurate Mike?
What is the reasoning for AWLAYS counting In/Off w the sticks for even the most basic rudiments exercises or beats. I never fully understood why and have always been too embarrassed to ask.
I’m new to this channel. My last drum instructor gave me some advice. I asked when is the best time to insert a drum fill. He stated, sense you play guitar, I would play a fill at a guitar chord change. That helped me out a great deal. Do you have anything to add to his comment? I was taking lessons at a national chain of music stores. But after Covid hit, they are no longer offering lessons. Sales, equipment repairs and supplies are all they are offering. ☹️ I’m on my own, with just a passion in my heart. Post script: I’ll ask my next stupid question on a future video. I don’t want to use my stupid question toe-cons up on one video.
No stupid questions 😊 especially when first getting started. Think of fills as a seasoning... add a little salt, butter, and pepper to taste, just don't forget that the main meal is the core beat. You can ruin a simple steak and potato meal with too much of any kind of seasoning. I always try to do a fill or change something up for the beat when there's a shift in the song. Meaning, I'll put a fill that seems musically appropriate in the transition between the chorus back into the second verse... or I'll put some sort of audible cue halfway through a bridge that repeats 4 times or more so as to help the other musicians know where we are. Hope that helps. 🙏 But know that following Mike, yeah, that's definitely going to help! Also, if you like podcasts, check out his podcast with Eddy Thrower. It's incredible and they talk about so much more than just drumming. It's Drum with Mike and Eddy open.spotify.com/show/5HAouQT8Nu7RlRhQdH2p5q?si=nHAKHOyxRyWCeaiRhsznuQ&
3:11 this transition to another section of the song is SIIIIIIIIICK! HOLY MOTHER what did I just see🤯
I'm totally drilling that lick right now!
Excellent drum fills Mike. I’ll practice these and share them with my students. Thank you for sharing these. Groove on!
The first 15 seconds of this video was gospel knowledge. The simplest "pat boom Debbie boom" played with 100% confidence will shine 100% of the time.
that last fill is soooo sick, super tasty and simple - love to see it
Admit it, you shot this entire video just as an excuse to post that old clip from the live on-stage video 😁😁
Love your enthusiasm in the band there.

I honestly have no idea what year that was, but i remember LOVING the German audience!
Hey Mike, its past midnight in Germany! Now I have to play the drums and annoy my neighbours… fills are just too tasty to wait.
F..cooool! :) Thank you man!
That second fill instantly took me back to Trust Company, Three Days Grace and bands like that... oh to be a teenager in the 2000's 😂
Yep.. im gonna have a go!
great cool
Thanks

Dude you were in a rock band and you never mentioned! I will start listening to those
Maaan I didn't even know your band but that was some powerful early 00s nostalgia nonetheless lol
The name of the last song pls?
Must be kind of cool, pulling up tracks from a website you created. SWEEET!
Not gonna lie... it's kinda sweet :)
@@mikeslessons love you Maaaaaan!😆
