Thats awesome im also 46 im beginning again . I played some in middle scholl but drumming is in my blood . My dad has playwed ever since he was a young boy . I remember falling asleep rt in front of the bass drum as he played very loud but even then i couldnt get enough . I couldnt have been more than 3 yrs old . But research shows we can learn at any age . Yes most of these vids only seem to be showing off what talent they have instead of trying to teach .
3:30 70bpm on a practice pad: one measure of 8ths RRRR alternating with one measure of 16ths RLRL 7:28-10:31 run through of all 12 fills 12:53 phrasing exercise
Love how the hats slooooowly started to open up the sound and the space 17:08. It built tension just to relieve itself (if that makes sense lol) Making the fill FEEL much larger. VERY awesome!
I love videos like this because it's putting to words concepts that I know and have been doing without realizing it. And now that someone has pointed it out, I can be much more intentional about it.
Thank you… I can’t wait for my husband to wake up so I can play! I’m new to drumming and have found you informative. The phrasing part super helpful as I never know when to do a fill!
Thanks very much for this. I downloaded the rock fills guide and you weren't lying, I got a lot more fun stuff other than the fills, which I actually haven't gotten to yet. All the various beats was a fun surprise. Thanks Stephen. Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks Stephen. I’m a intermediate/advanced drummer and let me tell you young upstarts(or late😂) these drum fills are very relevant and ones that I use everyday. I didn’t realize that I use them all the time until watching this.
As a beginner, I find the explanation of musical phrases brilliant and extremely relevant. When I listen to music, I instinctively expect "stuff" to happen at the end of these phrases, but had no idea why. This is another great video - most appreciated!
Dude what an excellent resource! As more intermediate these days than beginner - yes I know some of this stuff already but it's great having it all in one place and so superbly presented. Lots of good stuff, not just a list of grooves and fills. Top man Stephen, one of the best out there. Cheers :)
Stephen, I really appreciate such videos for beginners. It's really essential and helpful. For some people it might look too simple, but these are the building blocks towards the success. I can confirm that I struggle with fills. You're right I know some but I also need to learn how and when to use them. Also want to point out that knowing enough "vocabulary" really helps to feel more confident and from that point you can start improvising.
This is the best video about fills i found ever. And the PDF document is really cool and very freakin useful for beginner :) thanks man for this, have my sub and like
I’m learning to play the drums now at 61.Left hand requires some work, not quite there yet.Enjoying the journey though and thanks a lot Stephen for making things a little easier
I was once in a band about 10 years ago as a guitarist. We played big churches as well as bars/events with top 40 /rock songs too. Our drummer (of 40 years experience) was one of those guys that counted measures. My goodness that drove me nuts!!! He could play some really amazing but couldn’t really feel the music during a song. A super head scratcher here. It was a disaster when he was off by a measure. The band would have to jump forward a measure to catch up with him or repeat a measure til he caught up with us. Thank God it only happened maybe once during a gig. The point being; Pay attention to Stephen at the 13:00ish minute mark about feeling the time, the groove and the music.
I've been struggling with this very issue. Your explanation of 1/8th notes to 16th notes helped me. I was trying to start my fill with my weak hand and it was throwing my timing off and hard to work around the kit. Now that I'm starting my fill with my right hand I'm tearing it up. Still trying to get the timing just right on the Pat Boone-Debbie Boone. Great video and I have watched a lot. Thanks for making it simple.
Your lesson was very good on many many levels. So much, that I not only “liked” but also “subscribed”. If I could make one recommendation, especially for a guy like me who starting back to aware 1, it would be helpful if a “curser” could actually follow the bests along the bars. Technically I’m not sure how that’s done, but I’m sure it would help. Again, thank you for your clear explanations & emphasizing where to start from. Thank you.
Thanks so much for some really helpful simplicity! I am finding the pdf useful, but one minor annoyance. When you flip back from the sound bite, you're taken back to the beginning of the document. This is a bit frustrating, especially when you're in the later beats, its a long scroll/page re-adjust! Thanks again for some really solid learning! Dave
Thank you so much for this video. Really really heplful because y First you show "basic fills" then explain how to use them which is actually what any drummer needs!! That unlocked my playing and helps me now to get into a more fancy approach of my drumming
Stephen, great video man. I did the sign up and confirmed my email but there's no PDF that I can find. Did I miss something obvious or does it come later in an email?
Just a question, for those of us who have more drums (I have a 5-piece set as well as a Sabian B8 cymbal set with two crashes), can some of the tom or floor tom notes be substituted on other drums (other toms to more precise)?
My struggles are with choosing dominant hand and foot. I'm ambidextrous but not in the typical sense. I throw a ball and swing a bat right handed, but I play hockey left handed. I also kick left footed. It's more comfortable for me playing high-hat with my left hand, snare with my right, and I prefer playing bass with my left foot (I use a dbl bass peddle), but can use my right. Instead of my ride being over my floor tom, I have my ride symbol just behind and to the right of my high-hat. Crash symbols on the back right side. Anyone else more comfortable this way?
3 minutes of actual video that matches the title padded with view time milking prattle. if I wanted practice drills I would look that up, if I wanted strategies I would look that up, if I wanted to watch someone go on and on about one thing for 7 minutes before actually starting the part that matched the title that I actually was interested in and then find that section is only 3 minutes long, I'd watch this...
Thank you for actually teaching instead of just showing. I'm a beginner 45 year old woman just learning.

Underrated comment
Needs more like. More playing. Less talking.
Thanks for the easy-to-remember mnemonics!

VERY awesome!
You have such a great way of explaining things. Thank you so much!

Beginner drummer here. Thank you, this helps a lot.
What I've been missing! Thanks for your help Stephen, I love getting a notification you've uploaded another educational video.
Phrasing! That was an eye opener for me. Thanks for the ideas and helpful instruction (as always!)
Thank you so much. I never see this much grooves in a single pdf. Recieved the mail after subscription.
This is great! I played it over and over! Thanks!
thank you SO VERY much.....I played drums in grade school...NOW I'm 63 and I WANT MORE knowledge.. = POWER...great video
Thank you, very informative, this is exactly what I needed. Timing of when to put fills in. No one else did that.
Thanks very much for this. I downloaded the rock fills guide and you weren't lying, I got a lot more fun stuff other than the fills, which I actually haven't gotten to yet. All the various beats was a fun surprise. Thanks Stephen. Happy Thanksgiving.

Great job mate, I have just started playing and find your videos brilliant to learn from

From one Clark to another, thanks dude! I like the non glamorous thing because that's so me.
This is very helpful for us beginners. Carry on!
Thanks, Stephen. My practising and playing took a big setback a while ago, and this kind of stuff is a great help to easing back into the basics.
This was super helpful, thanks!

Hello Stephen! A new subscriber here. Thanks for teaching effectively.😊

Good choices--thanks
Amazing...now I'm on my way
Thank You very much.
THANK YOU🎉
Great explanation as usual.😁🎶

Thank you.
Yep, I need to transition from groove to fills and back smoothly. I am recording my practise sessions, but my phone hates my drums!
I’m right at this point, I’m playing but fills are confusing thank you for your help 🥁🥁
Excellent lesson. Do you cover quarter note triplets?
Thanks so much for some really helpful simplicity! I am finding the pdf useful, but one minor annoyance. When you flip back from the sound bite, you're taken back to the beginning of the document. Greate videos. Thanks for it.
Unfortunately I can’t download the pdf. Do you know why is that?
Stephen, great video man. I did the sign up and confirmed my email but there's no PDF that I can find. Did I miss something obvious or does it come later in an email?
Building speed on double stroke rolls! I'm ok on the practice pad & on the snare, but kinda lose it when trying to go around the kit!
7:31 the fills starts 😤
Thanks for the vid: the 25 grooves/fills offer doesn't have a download, just a subscription. How to just get the PDF?
I think you get the .pdf after you subscribe

Thanks for the video however GoDaddy has your domain parked and can't download the PDF

Awesome
One of my main struggles besides fills is ending songs like when and how.
How do I download the 25 fills?
7:31 bookmark for me
Stephen, have you ran into other RUclipsrs who teach like you do? Is there a channel like this but for commercial guitar playing?
Yeah
3:37
Nice guide for people that read music or have any idea what all the symbols mean or even drum parts but definitely NOT for beginners
Stephen...not Steve.. like Ballroom Blitz-You Ready Steve-uh huh.
👍
More playing. Less talking.
7 minutes talking talking talking the same thing, before the first hit! come one! Hit these drums man! Stop talking
the waffle in this video just kills me. please weed out the waffle and get to the point. great vid otherwise
drummers speak like doo doo ka ka do doo ka ka doo doo ka ka pee pee
Catch my attention at first but don't get into the lesson for 15 min
Thanks for your time but to much talk
Waaaaayyy too much
God too much waffle.......
100%
so I thought you would be a good beginner teacher, but in this video you are going way too fast 😢
Get to the point dude!
Seven minutes before the jabbering stoped. I’m never watching again!
Talk too much. ugh. But thanks for the help.
You talk too much 😮

Mainly I need to work on everything with mainly my foot pedal
