    If you are interested in this, the slightly older model of the Tucson, be aware there are some inaccuracies about the engines in this review in terms of the UK market. Matt refers to the petrol engine as being underpowered and you should just avoid it, but there are 2 petrol engines in the UK. Although the standard 1.6 petrol is under powered for the weight of the car, the 1.6 turbo petrol is powerful enough to make this reasonably quick (0-60 sub 9sec). The following older Tucson models had the 1.6 turbo petrol engine as an option:
    Sept15-Dec15 Premium
    Jun17-Aug18 Sport
    Feb18-Aug18 Go SE

    Mat, we bought the Premium 2016 model late last year. Panoramic roof, LED lights and all the toys for boys you could ever need. We love the strong styling of it and it is the 2.0 ltr diesel, so has a bit of oomph when required and when using cruise control, I can get well over 40 mpg and that's even driving about the streets (like a Priest mind you). We love it and this is our 2nd Hyundai. The last one was the IX35 which was bullet proof too.

    STOP slagging off Hyundai .the build quality is superb and the interior is not cheap or nasty i have been in many expensive cars with worse plastic .i have also owned various Hyundai's the last one for 9 years a Tucson old shape .anything made from 2008 onwards is well made and will last the 1.7 diesel is NOTa rough engine my wife has the 1.7 ix35 its quiet as any other diesels but being a Hyundai it packed with kit .the new 2017 Tucson is a smart car also loaded with kit go for the SE there are many useful extras and you won't pay silly money if you can live without a reversing camera and a touch screen sat nav /sound system then the SE will save you around £2k .a good sat nav will cost around £200 and the sound system in the rest of the Tuscon's is more than adequate .also ask about Hyundai's affinity scheme i could be wrong but i think Hyundai are the only company to offer this .if you have a blue badge or work for the police and other organisations that deal with Hyundai you qualify for a substantial discount i have just saved over 7k on a brand new Tucson using the scheme .dont buy a diesel if you only do short runs because unlike the older diesels that did not have a DPF the new diesels do have a DFP and if you don't do the miles you will clog it up and it is not covered on their warranty and it will costs you hundreds go for the 1.6 normally aspirated petrol if you are going to be using this car for short runs [like the 2 mile school run twice a day ]

    • @dominoxzz
      @dominoxzz 7 лет назад +11

      That's not entirely true. While Hyundai has decent build quality it's nowhere near the top of it's class. You can feel the difference when opening or closing the car doors, the amount of hard plastics used in and around the interior. I drove an Audi before buying the Tucson premium 1.7 CRDI. While i love my Hyundai, i'll still acknowledge that there is a BIG difference in overall quality and finesse. There is no comparison because in prices they are 2 worlds apart. Which makes sense. The 1.7 CRDI is a little grumpy when you put your foot down. It's not the best engine on the market. Far from it, it lacks refinement. But it is a sturdy engine and outperforms the figures on the official paper. It's top speed is higher. It's around 190-195 and acceleration time from 0-100 Km/hr lies at about 10.7-10.8 seconds, depending on the road conditions and the driver of course. That IS IMPRESSIVE. It's also quick to pick up torque and speed even in low revs. It's a good engine yes, but quiet? Not entirely so. Overall it's a great family, small suv with great looks and good reliability so far. I'm a happy owner but won't go on to state facts that aren't true. Every car and brand has their up and downsides.

    • @dominoxzz
      @dominoxzz 7 лет назад

      If you don't do more then 25.000 Km on a yearly basis i'd advise you to get the 1.6 Turbo. Not the naturally aspirated 1.6 as it seriously lacks in punch. You would still be better off getting the 1.7 diesel then. If you're thinking of towing then get the 2.0 Diesel as neither the 1.7 or 1.6 will really cut it for those purposes.

    Great to see Matt back!!! By the way, higher trim levels have softer materials for interior and the Limited model in the US has leather cover on top of the dash where Matt pointed out in the video. It is hard plastic in Euro spec, bad regional decision by Hyundai.

    Best car i have ever had. i have the small 1,6 litre engine. works absolutely fine ... whoever races with a suv ? for town and a bit of highway, absolutley perfect ..... comfy ride at around 80 miles and hour and lets face it , who drives 160 with the thing ? aside from that it has a "less bullshit" set .... not all the fancy whatever systems stuck to it. build quality is very good for the price range, of course comparing a bmw and a hyundai will see the differences, but then again , who cares ?

    Good review, but I'd rather see a detailed review rather than a quick one. Don't put it on length as, as a non potential buyer, I watched every video Mat did without bothering about the video length at all. You'll get more subs and more importantly, more videos and it will be hard to search practicality videos corresponding to the desired car. Please consider including it in the video Carwow! You should also fix the off screen microphone! Other than that, great videos and I very much like the way you film them!

      Mine does 30mpg in the city, about 45 -50 on A roads and motorways. But I am a terrible driver so I think you could improve on that!

    Could you do the 2016 Mercedes c class coupe? I am really thinking of buying it but there aren't any good useful reviews on RUclips.

    The AWD in this car makes it punchier off the line and more suitable for roadtrips. It can also tow more and corner better with all 4 wheels gripping.

    Interesting.. until yesterday I really liked Tucson... now compare it with the Kia Sportage from the previous video I kind of like the Kia's look a bit more, it is a bit muscular then Tucson.
    Any way the best in this class is still Nissan Qashqai!

      Wait until the new Tiguan comes. It's going to be even better although more expensive :)

      Mr DL No way!!! Great looking car but VW is at the last place in any of my lists :) Especially the Tuguan - My friend's father had one... this car spent most of its time in VW service instead in his garage while he was driving his old Opel :)
      If I'm at the market fror small crossover I'll take Qashqai, although in my opinion it needs good 2.0 diesel and petrol engines and proper automatic instead CVT.

      benzfen old Tiguan is very different to the new one. They almost share no common parts. I agree that the old one wasn't a good car, it was technologically outdated (based on old platforms, had old engines, was expensive to built so they had to cut down on quality to reduce the price).
      But the new one is a completely different story. It's an MQB car (and all MQB cars I've driven, and in fact I now own one, are brilliant), with latest technology and great engines. It's going to be way better than the rivals. Well, if not subjectively (you might not like the design and think that its unreliable), but definetely objectively (its going to have bigger boot, space for passengers, better fuel economy and so on).

      Mr DL I don't have any problem with the design, the latest Passat front grill isn't very attractive but Golf is really good looking- especially with R-design pack, I've seen the new Tiguan too... great looking...
      BUT my problem is the reliability of this company. Even the totally in love Germans admit that VW has issues with reliability when get older...
      The latest generations might be seriously improved but this is just not my cup of tea :)
