    I just want to say, This speaker is AMAZING! I'm researching 2017 H Tuscons to buy as a pre-owned compact SUV (it's Dec. 2023) and this video offers me a very rich "baseline" education. Seriously, it was very pleasant to watch this, even the setting in the woods makes it better than the videos that film in parking lots. Thank you! (Tennessee)

    Hyundai & Kia are offering values that Toyota was giving back in the late 70s/early 80s. Not saying there isn't value in Toyotas but it seems the 'Koreans' have stepped up their game. As Toyota was chasing after GM, Ford & Chrysler 30+ years ago, it appears to me Kia & Hyundai are taking away clients who might other wise buy a Toyota (Nissan or Mazda). It's good to have options and I can't recall in the past 30 years when more favorable options have been available for the consumer.

    • @unnamedny
      @unnamedny 8 лет назад +27

      +Tully3674 It's actually unbelievable how they were able to step up their game. Just 10 years ago Kia and Hyundai went from "who the hell would buy it?" to "damn, that might be my next car" now days.

      especially after having their economy depleted from the 1997 asian financial crisis, and the Korean War. at this rate, i believe in another few years, Hyundai and Kia will be among the top car brands.

      I'm very complicated...Hyundai and Kia...I don't know. They doesn't give Korean valuable services such as long period of warranty. They are selling reliable cars in the world and it makes me happy because I'm Korean. However, they disregard people who made them. Korean people bought a lot of cars from them when they are developing in other countries. When People in the would were blaming them, Korean got cars from them because they are the only survived Korean brand. We made them wealthy and 5th top contender of the would but...now...I feel shame...I hope they don't discriminate Korean.

    Alex, I appreciate your candor in evaluating this against the CX5, one of my favorites in this segment. I like everything about the new Tuscon; if they only offered adaptive cruise control (which ironically is now available on the Elantra), I'd probably go out and buy one right now. This vehicle ticks off about everything major item on my wish list otherwise.

    Thank you for a good review.
    The CX-5 AWD gets 30/24/26 compared with the non-Eco Tucson 28/24/26. So, the CX-5 is in-fact slightly better on the highway.
    The Eco Tucson does get 31/25/27, so +1 MPG better in city & highway as well as average.

  • @MarimbaNation

    Wonderful review as always Alex! It seems like the best time to purchase the new Tucson will be after the Santa Fe Sport is refreshed and Hyundai can equip the vehicle the way you know they would like to. I test drove the Eco model and actually thought it would be a great base trim, and the fully loaded Limited model still seemed like it was begging for more content. Seems like Hyundai may go the same route as Jeep with a Patriot/Compass and Cherokee surrounding the Compact CUV market rather than hitting it directly.
    Oh, sorry to say there's a typo in the economy graphic under the AWD equipped 2.0L's city numbers. I'd like the stalk status display if the vehicle were a rental, not so much once I've learned a vehicle's quirks though.

  • @mextijuas5

    I just love how Alex does the reviews, he gives a lot of info and comparison and understands that there is no perfect car.
    In my personal opinion I test drove all compact crossovers this year at a auto show and sat on mid and top trim levels. My favorite was the cx5. if you want basic trim the mazda it's the best, it offers the 2.5 liter plus push start ignition and for 400 bucks you get a big touch screen. with Tucson you need to step it up to the sport. Also the tucson has way too much hard plastic from all the way from sport to bottom trim. even in the Limited had some more than the others. My second choice it's tie with limited tucson or rogue. the rogue has a very nice interior. The tucson gauges look way to simple, nothing special, it looks cheap. The exterior it's the best, period, but to me the interior it's the most important after engine and performance since it's where you spend all of the time. Hyundai warranties it's hard to beat specially for me since I want to keep it for 10 years.

    Just one note on the black interiors on the Tucson. Hyundai needs to step it up with some accent stitching, piping or bright trim on door panels & around door handle releases & console . The "stark" black interior look went out in the 80's. Considering the competition, including most other models from Hyundai, you'll will see what I'm talk'in about. This fault gets the most demerits on Limited models, as for paying thousands $$$ more, the overall interior appearance is about same as in the lower line.

      +Didi Atthas Good choice, I have the 2015 CX-5 GT 2.5L (AWD) and just took it in for it's 1 yr scheduled service. Absolutely no problems at all, it has good acceleration, the AWD system sends power to the rear extremely fast when needed as I tested it a few times in snow storms up in Canada and best of all it is great on gas. I am getting slightly better mpg than the rated if I take it easy.

    Alex; long time viewer. The details into which you delve is really amazing. Couple big picture off the wall observations. 3 exporters of "most improved over the years" cars we see in the showroom seem to be built by former wartime enemies. Does these bode well for Vietnam and Iraqi imports in the future? I confess to owning both a German and Japanese car. Somehow I doubt kim il ? will get there though much less the others.
    2nd question. Any chance you'll "test" a 991.2 in the near future?
    Manufactures in general never slow for a moment it seems though I hold little hope for autonomous vehicles in our future. I'm wrong as often as not though... Thanks

    Excellent styling and wheels. Looks sportier and more interesting than class leaders like the Rav4 and CRV. A Rav4 Hybrid will be more powerful and more efficient, but more expensive. BTW, that is the smartest power tailgate I've heard of. Just stand in front of the tailgate with the key on you, and it will beep until opening. That's how it should be done!

    Alex, you got some of the best auto reviews. I know you mention how much you like Mazda CX-5 handling in many SUVs in this size range. What about Tiguan? You mentioned you rate it high but that was in 2014/2015. What about now? I checked all SUVs below 30K and I felt Tiguan has the best interior quality but the style is not exciting. Second for me is Subaru Outback and CX-5. Hope you do a quick review on 2016 Tiguan as it now has Android auto and the models are greatly discounted by dealers.

    Great Review Alex. I have a quick question. Does the AWD Tucson 1.6T feel slower than the front drive version. I really like this little CUV exterior styling even better than the Mazda.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад

      +carguy812 It is a little slower since the final drive ratio is tweaked a little in the AWD version.

    Thank you for this great review.
    I want to buy a car in this class sometime in the next month. Because of huge variety of cars in this segment, I am really confused. Every time I do more research, I am getting even more confused. Now, I am thinking about Mazda CX-3 or 5, Toyota Rav4 and Buick Encore. Encore sounds to be a good car in comparison to others and what it offers, but you didn't mention it. Please let me know what do you think abou these cars and if there is any other options to consider.

      +Mohammad Haidari Buick encore is a very funny disproportional looking car, besides it gets really low ratings. If I were looking for lease, I would look at best money and features car. If you are planning to keep car until your wheels fall off, then go with Toyota.

    I'm concerned about the dual clutch transmission and if there are problems with it. I'd really like to purchase the sport trim, but I don't like the idea of the computer switching the gears.

    This 1.6 T, Tiguan 2 1.4 T, Kadjar 1.2 T, Kuga 1.5 Ecoboost or Ateca 1.4?? what would you get? New 3008 will be released after 4/5 months here in my country so won't wait for it.

    Another great review, Alex. Thank you. As another viewer pointed out, the amount of work/research you put into your videos is nothing short of impressive. I'd like some clarification, though. You said that the CX5 has a more premium feel. Is this true even for the higher trim Tucson, which you say has better materials in it. I appreciate what Mazda has been able to accomplish, especially in recent years, but the Tucson, fully loaded, seems like a CX5 killer to me.
    I really would like you to review the Subaru Outback Limited 4/6 cylinder models.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад

      Yes I would still apply that to the Limited trim. The hard plastics in the Tucson honestly shocked me since Hyundai has been creating some really great interiors lately.

    Alex - I'm a long time viewer and am so appreciative of the level of detail you provide in your reviews. I read a blurb about the 2016 Tucson and came to your video. To be honest, my decision had been narrowed down to the CX5 and the Forester. You do not spend as much time discussing the Forester's place in this class. What are your thoughts between these 3? Lastly, can you comment on visibility from the cabin of the Tucson? That's a huge point of contention for me, which is why the Forester remains high on my list--I can actually SEE out of it.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 лет назад

      +Jim Pryde Visibility is a strong point on the Forester. I generally only talk about the major sellers in a category because doing otherwise would make the videos too long. The Forester is usually 8th or 9th on the sales charts so I generally don't cover it unless there's a strong reason. The Forester's main selling point is price, it's inexpensive for a vehicle with standard AWD. My only complaints are that the low starting price meant Subaru had less to spend on the interior.

      +Alex on Autos That's a good point, Alex. Compared to the interior of my 2007 Fusion, though... It's stellar! As for visibility in the Tucson, where does it rank? Thanks again!
