    GUYS! You are allowed to deny your job offers! You dont have to take a job! The recruiter cant force you, deny the job and wait for the job you want!

    • @thediamondalexis_
      @thediamondalexis_  5 лет назад +29

      While this is true, just as easy as you can deny a job they can deny your contract. I’m not sure the outcome of that since your DEP discharge goes up to MEPS. I would think it could interfere if you tried to join with a new recruiter. They might see that you’re fixated on a particular job and might not want to work with you. Every recruiter is different though but I accepted the job because I wanted to. Not because I felt like I had to

      Yeah much better to wait. I learned the hard way and stupidly took whatever was available to leave right away my first enlistment and was miserable. I later re-enlisted and changed career fields. But liked the military overall and ended up making a full career of it. I was almost the same situation, also forced into a mechanical job and hated it, I worked on aircraft. But having said that everything is what you make of it. You will have to make the best of every job or base you get sent to. You will see and learn many things. But Don’t worry about the “knowledge” part they will teach you everything you need to know.
      You will be ok. Good thing is whether u actually “love it” or not I would advise to stick with that one or find another similar lucrative job. You also want to be thinking of the “civilian market” for after you get out. Whether you stay for 20 or not, you will need a good job when you get out. Aircraft maintenance is one of those higher paying jobs on the outside!! 💰 💵

    That’s why your asvab test score is important. My son just got a 94 on the test and they kissed his butt and gave him a job better than he ever expected.

      Kayla Richards .... he bought a couple of the study books off amazon and then studied 20 minutes a day and then me and his mother questioned him about what he just read every day. He also had an 3.8 gpa when he graduated in 2019 from HS which helped. He is in language school now learning Russian for air force intel.

    • @affliction2452
      @affliction2452 4 года назад +4

      @RR R Unfortunately, that's not always the case. I got a 93 on my asvab, 4 years ago, and the AF recruiter could only give me Security Forces or mechanic. Ended up doing 4 years with the Army, with a job that wasn't my 1st pick lol. Here I am, 4 years later, trying to get a decent job with the Air National Guard lol.

    Man the Air Force job selection process is so shady lol they really give some of y’all a hard time. Army was so simple, took ASVAB,looked over scores with my recruiter to see what jobs i qualified for. Sat down on his computer and looked through which job i wanted and reserved it before i even went to MEPS. Went to MEPS and signed my actual contract for DEP with the same job i reserved in my recruiters office. But i understand that the Air Force life looks more comfortable so maybe it’s worth it for you guys to go through this. Good luck with everything.

    • @Solidergirl01
      @Solidergirl01 5 лет назад +2

      @Dex Mitch you make the same amount according to your rank. Since you are going to the reserve you will be home working a regular job , but doing your two weekends a month. It doesn't matter the job you get paid base on your rank.

    • @Solidergirl01
      @Solidergirl01 5 лет назад +2

      @Dex Mitch yes I have 15 years. I will not tell you my duty station. My mos is 92Y

    • @obdiane
      @obdiane 5 лет назад +14

      @Dex Mitch I was (Army, 92A 12 years) and my son is AF(9s100(Staff Sgt(4 years) and my daughter is Army(68C (PFC(18 months). The Army will give you what you want as long as you qualify. My daughter was going to go AF, but they didn't want to give her a medical job, and her ASVAB score was two points from perfect. They said they had no medical jobs and she would have to go to basic and hope one came up. So, she went to the Army and received what she wanted, right away. She now works at an Army hospital in prenatal and has her own room- with a half kitchen- to herself. So, the ARMY is not worst than the AF, everything depends on your job. The Army will give you your job before you leave for BT, the AF doesn't necessarily do that. People must remember that the job is what makes the military "doable" , if you hate your job you will hate the military. So, chose wisely.

  • @thetreoman
    @thetreoman 4 года назад +31

    The Army tried this same thing with me. So I shook the guys hand, and walking out his door and straight into the Air Force recruitment office. I actually want a mechanical or tech job. That’s what I wanted the Army kept trying to put me in roles that have to useful skills outside the army. At least being a air craft mechanic or aviation tech or whatever job I do, I can go work at some Airport or aviation company once I leave.

    The U.S. Air Force’s sole objective is #airsuperiority. Its combat mission/s are predicated on its air superiority. If you are not a (fighter) pilot - you are working on the jets and air frames. Simple as that.
    All pilots are commissioned Officers. Pilots fly. All maintainers are enlisted Airmen. And maintainers fix the air frames. Partners in the same mission.
    Everything revolves around the pilots and their maintainers. Everything - and everyone else, is secondary. Always remember that.

    my recruiter told me from the first day I met him what the air force NEEDS were and when I finally got my job listing (pretty much all admin and general) he told me which ones on the list he was actually gonna be able to offer me and had me make a list from there. Thankfully he’s been a big help

  • @sullivanohana
    @sullivanohana 5 лет назад +12

    My recruiter telling me perty much the exact same thing, mechanical and electrical. I feel like everything I find on the internet is outdated and the AF is a bit more strict for 2019. Maybe at one point you could choose what job you want, but it seems like there's so much competition these days, recruiters (particularly AF recruiters) can discharge you and move on to the next guy/girl who will take the job that nobody wants.
    I appreciate your viddy; the most recent/good info I could find. Good luck!

    • @thediamondalexis_

      Adam Sul This is true and EXACTLY WHAT IM GOING THROUGH!

  • @fergiy89
    @fergiy89 3 года назад +4

    09:50 Correct. All recruiters do this unfortunately, I had a 97 ASVAB and was forced into open general. When you go open category you do get to make a dream sheet in BMT, but you are not guaranteed that you will even get one of those five jobs that you write down. It's all needs of the military at that point. It's basically a dream sheet that you fill out. When I got to BMT and put 5 jobs down, the top three were ones that I wanted prior to BMT but I ended up getting a job that wasn't even on the top five and was one that I wasn't interested in. If you have a high ASVAB you may be placed into a critically manned job. They'll teach you absolutely everything you need to know though.
    I think the other categories like mechanical, administrative, and electrical are all better than open general. The general category has such a wide array of jobs you have a higher probability of getting something you're really not interested in.

I specifically did not want to do well on parts of the test that I thought would lead to me ending up working on cars, or motors or that had anything to do with wrenches or turning bolts😩 I ended up with a job working on an aircraft...I loved it when I started it, hated the people I worked with. However, there's a silver lining. You can go to college and get the training you want for the job you want, that is actually what I ended having to do...oh and I went to the Air National Guard and that made it easier for a cross train. I hope you are enjoying your military career since this has been a few months ago now😁

  • @ewieman8
    @ewieman8 4 года назад +2

    As a recruiter that’s been doing this for years, here is how the job selection process works for seniors at High school and High school graduates: 1- What jobs do the Air Force actually have available? (You know.... like EVERY COMPANY ON THE PLANET) 2-what are your qualifications? 3- what is your availability to leave for BMT? 4- what are your preferences (number of jobs required to list are based on squadron policy; meaning it can be 6 in certain states, 8 in another and in my case it’s 10 jobs/ and Aptitude Area ensuring you only work in the field you desire). If you can’t follow that policy, good luck elsewhere and no hard feelings. Try the army where it isn’t as competitive for manning or the civilian world where you’ll need a degree, experience, etc.

    • @ewieman8
      @ewieman8 4 года назад

      Disclaimer; I fully understand that not every recruiter is like this. I think it’s foolish not to be completely open with applicants because trust is how my business thrives. I’m a business major and I know for a fact that happy applicants with great remarks make this possible. I hope you all find this comment to be helpful since the truth about each persons process will be different. If you don’t follow the rules for enlisting or do your research to ensure you know how it works, you’ll be just like every other person on Reddit and RUclips complaining. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Great comment. I have been in recruiting too long. MI recruiter, LA Ops, Pittsburgh MEPS and back on the bag in the US Virgin Islands.
      What is funny is one my applicants and his parents from 2010 didn’t like the job process. They argued with me over it. I told him to take a hike. He eventually joined. I met him again last year at our annual. He is now a recruiter in my Squadron explaining that job process. He told me he read the comments I put in the system from when he was an applicant. Lol

      Hey! I dont mean to bother but I have a question, if I get offered a job I dont want I can't turn it down and wait for another one? Also what would be the best plan of action to improving my chances of getting a cyber job? Thanks

    • @ewieman8
      @ewieman8 3 года назад +2

      @@winds1010 hey! No worries at all!
      So. If you are NOT a waiver individual then this is my answer: If you work with your recruiter to make a list but don't want a job you listed... you're wrong lol. Don't ever list a job you don't actually want because that's a waste of resources, time and truthfully we are all here to serve the air force. It's disrespectful to make a list but lie about your intentions and just hope it works out for your number 1 type of job, i.e cyber etc.. I know you don't mean anything by it but we all serve a greater purpose and the air force recruiting service needs to fill positions for the goal of maintaining national security and all that heroic stuff lol Make your list and be happy to get anything off of it! 99.9% of my applicants have never had a job in the position they ask for... this means they could hate their number 1 preference and love their very last choice and have no way of knowing. Just go in with an open mindset regardless of what you think is the best or worst etc.
      If you got a job off your list and aren't happy you can't just trade it out etc. You can go for retraining later in your career (this is actually stated on your contract / AF Form 3005/7 for the ability to do this halfway through your contract)
      Ultimately if a job is offered to you but its not on your list you can refuse it. This is all on the basis that you didn't need a waiver to join. Waiver applicants have literally no say in when they go / how they get selected.
      Final bit: remember why you joined the air force. If it was just for a job, why did you go through all the hoops of enlistment when you could've just spent money on college and certifications? If you answer "lack of money, need travel, foundation, safety, better career options, we pay for the education, etc) this is why the air force is amazing regardless of the job. I hope this helps!

I'm not going enlisted into the AF with a Bachelors Degree to be told I HAVE to take a grease monkey job lol I will drop out of DEP before I get pressured into ANYTHING. From what I’ve been told you have to score a 93 or higher on the ASVAB or have a family member as a recruiter to essentially get a medical/admin job. You can go Officer but I’ve spoken to officer recruiters who have said it’s about a 2 year process to even get in and even then it’s not guaranteed since you have to be approved by a board on whether you’re qualified enough. Going enlisted first, at least you can try to submit your package after a year to go Officer. I’ll definitely post more about that once I get more familiar with everything!

Anyways, I told my recruiter that I did not want that job and he threaded me with discharge as well. Luckily while waiting on my ship day someone broke their arm and my recruiter called me if I wanted to take place as open MX and I said Hell yeah I'll take the chance. Shipped out the following week as open mechanical. Got my second pick which was Aircraft Metals Technologies (extremely lucky), one one the better one of mechanical field along with Non destructive inspections (1st pick) They are both backshop jobs. I do not have homework and is super easy and cool to build stuff out of metal and weld. Stay away from AGE and Fuels. Props is a lot of homework and their tech school is long. Since you are not electrical you will not get any avionics which also get a ton of homework. Egress system is a joke they do not do sh*t. It all Depends on what jobs are available at the time, I believe is 3er Week you get to pick your list of jobs and dont find out till 6 week. Do your research and best of luck in BMT.

    Not sure the recruiter did a good job explaining the job process but sometimes it’s the applicants that don’t listen or don’t fully understand.
    There will be several jobs on your list that are not available or only come available a few times a year. If you are open to the jobs that are available, then join. If not, then go enjoy the Army.
    The Air Force is going away from aptitude indexes like the 9TM44 she got. We are currently only booking about 10% Aptitude indexes. In the past it was as much as 40%.
    Ultimately the real job is the Air Force or the branch you choose to join. The way the branch of service treats you and your lifestyle will have the biggest impact on you.

    My recruiter isn't the best (although like covid is happening and he's gotta deal with other ppl so I get it) but he never told me "you have to pick from these areas otherwise I can't get you a job" he told me "ya know you can refuse job offers, etc". Definitely be open to all kinds of jobs, the job I got put in for is one I didn't really think about going in for but I'm actually excited about (going in as a linguist, not sure if I'll be ground or airborne yet, he's still looking for a contract for me but dude was like "you passed the DLAB I'm making you a linguist kid" which I don't mind at all), HOWEVER, you DO NOT have take a job or an aptitude area just because your recruiter is pushing it on you. You have a choice sometimes it won't be your first or second choice but you have a rough choice in what you go into. He definitely lied to you 100% and you should probably report him or something so he doesn't do that to other young, naïve adults

    Probably a lie. I’m in the process of joining the AF now. I graduated college Cum Luade and finishing up dual certificate now in software engineering... just scored 89 on ASVAB. Pretty much have golden spoon in my mouth and the recruiters treating me like a million dollars. He told me straight up he’s already met his quota for the year and doesn’t want to see overqualified people being tossed around. Pretty much said if I don’t get the job I want, he can go out of his way and essentially cherry pick that job for next round of job openings for me. I guess it just all depends on the situation on how you get treated.

    Okay quick question ... what if I only want to go into the Air Force for just 1 specific job ... I don’t want to go in and do a job I won’t enjoy ... I want to do vehicle management and that’s the only job I want ... is there anyway I can do to guarantee this job? I’ve heard that you write down the 7 dream jobs you want ... what if I don’t want the other jobs ..I just want the vehicle management..??

    • @thediamondalexis_
      @thediamondalexis_  4 года назад

      So you may end up getting a good recruiter that can hook you up with the job you want or you could end up in my case where mine made me go ‘Open’. When you fill out your dream sheet in BMT they say it’s best to put at least 3-5 jobs you could potentially see yourself doing in order of which one you want the most. They specifically told us that by only putting one specific job there’s not a good chance of getting it. My number one job (that I qualified for at MEPS) wasn’t even an option to pick for my dream sheet at BMT so there’s always the chance that that AFSC is full by the time you fill it out. My best advice in this situation would be, don’t be fixated on one specific job. Keep an open mind of a couple of other jobs that you could possibly consider should you not get vehicle management even if you score really high on the ASVAB. I hope this helps!

    Hey Alexis. I'm going through something similar currently. Basically I have been in DEP since June. My plan is to wait until a job comes up that I'm interested in. A security forces position recently came up and my recruiter said I had to take this position. Like yourself, I said I no to the position. I'd rather wait until another position comes available. He basically said if I don't take this position I will be discharged from DEP. I'm wondering if this is a lie. Were you able to find out if this is a lie? Thanks for your insight.

    • @thediamondalexis_
      @thediamondalexis_  5 лет назад +3

      Ugh the same thing happened to me! Technically, yes. Your recruiter can discharge you from the DEP program at this point if they want which sucks. However, you can always find another Air Force recruiter in another city near you to work with! Security forces and mechanical jobs ALWAYS need people so recruiters will always try to fill those positions first. It’s all about what YOU want in the end.
