As a photographer myself trying to join the Air Force right now, I’m so RELIEVED to find your videos I was so scared of the idea of having to leave that side of me behind. You’re amazing thanks so much for sharing this!
I was scared too, because I'm so artistic and goofy, I was told those qualities would be squished out of me. I'm happy i got a job that allows me to continue being creative! I'm really glad you like the videos :)
I'm a photographer as well and that is one of the reasons why I'm struggling with joining the AF. I didn't want to give it up! Elora's channel is soooo helpful for me right now
I’m in DEP right now awaiting BMT. I was told I would be a photojournalist a few weeks ago and this video was definitely the most informative one I found about photojournalism. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for me in the Air Force.
Just to let y'all know I got the job to be a photojournalist. It's no longer photojournalism it's called public affairs. It's a 6 month long course and you learn how to video, take photos, and write articles.
I'm glad you made this video. I'm a photography major and would love to join the air force and was struggling to pick something I could stick with for 20 yrs. After hearing this video I'm definitely going to wait for this job to open up.
One major thing I love about your videos is that you are extremely informative one, and two a lot of youtubers essentially will describe their time in BMT as a blur, they don’t remember much. Vague descriptions of their duties. They are negative and say it sucks etc etc etc. I think your approach doesn’t make joining seem all doom and gloom. You’re very positive!!
you’ve really inspired me, i just graduated this May & constantly trying to find my way in the the military field. I believe the Air Force would be a good decision for me. God bless you & yours 💛
I just found your channel. I want to join the Air Force. My brother is in the Air Force. Thank you for your videos! I love the way that you speak especially in your rants 😂❤
I have literally been binge watching your videos. I recently began my enlistment process. Eek. I have been prequalified and am on to the next steps! Your videos have made me feel so much more confident in this decision because I feel as though I am doing it for the right reason. :)
I’m very creative as well, as I’m researching I’m glad I saw the photojournalism job! I’m in the beginning stages and might honestly join soon and get the process started!
I am still in high school just trying to figure out my life and this video helped so thank you, I am now interested in learning more about photojournalism.
Was watching some military videos and stumbled upon yours. I’m ex-Air Force from way back and was very impressed with your presentations. You are a very attractive young lady but what puts you above the fray is your very likable personality along with your playful quirkiness and obvious smarts. Keep up the great work! You are on the path to a very successful career in or out of the Air Force. New subscriber-
I loved your video. You've explained everything very well with your sense of humor. That's when I subscribed! I was like, I like this girl. Thanks for the information!! Helps a ton💕
I’m studying mass communications/ general broadcasting in college now and I feel you when it comes to grad pictures and more like “mhmm that is not the best photo but if you like it” 😂😂 I can’t even watch a movie anymore without thinking about how it’s shot
I just want to say that I really appreciate what you're doing. I've bee watching your videos for a few days now because I'm considering going into the Air Force, but for Welding Technologies. In any case, the information that you give in your videos is really helping for my anxiety about joining because simply thinking about it, I was scared and nervous but I'm less so now thanks to you.
I’m 18 & I turn 19 in 5 days! And I’ve been watching A LOT of your videos lately because I want to join the Air Force! You have been sooooo helpful! But I also love ur makeup videos too !
I effectively served the last 4 years as a photojournalist. While trained as a graphic artist at Lowry AFB in Denver (now closed), I was first stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. After that I was transferred to an MI unit in New Jersey. Assigned to their PAO. I did graphics, but they also needed me to do photography and write stories. Served from 1990 - 1996.
I’m a very proficient photographer atm as a high schooler, and would love to keep that aspect of my life. As soon as I graduate I’m meeting with a recruiter and I’m definitely going to try and become a photojournalist for USAF. Your videos are super helpful and very inspiring. I’m like you, where you learn a lot better in an active hands on environment rather than a classroom environment. I also enjoy writing so I think I’ll be sound in that area. Thanks for everything you do!
Elora, I am a photographer. Use your new found skills and talents to shoot pictures in your spare time. What DSLR do you personally own for your own work? I think is is exciting to be a photographer. I spent 23 years in the Air Force as an Aircraft Machinist and Welder. Iceland, Guam, Hawaii, Michigan, Germany, Nevada, NC, Texas. Aim High.
This is the best, most informative and REAL video I've seen on this topic. This helps a ton for me individually. Ive been contemplating joining and doing this same field. Thank you for your insight!
Dude I love you so much and you give me so much inspiration. I will be joining the Air Force when I get out of high school, this is my senior year. You’ve influenced me and inspired me so much. I look up to you.
I love watching your videos! My husband is in the Air Force and we got married young and stationed across the country from our home. Your videos make me feel so much better especially dealing with homesickness
I'm so glad I found your channel! I'm currently a college freshman and I'm studying photography and criminal justice. At the beginning of the year I was in AFROTC but had a knee injury so I had to put that on hold but I lovvveeed it! I'm thinking about enlisting in a year or two and I would love to be a photojournalist and it's so nice to see what you think of it and what your experiences are like :)
OMG, your makeup looks amazing! And I am SUPER happy you made a video of this. I've been watching you for about 2 months now. And I really enjoy your videos. I'm soooo happy you are Photo Journalist because I actually want to go in for Photo Journalism or Broadcaster. Please keep updating. Again thank you and you're amazing!!!
Thank you sooooo much for posting this. The information was very beneficial since this is one of my top job picks. Keep up the great work, I’m loving the USAF videos. :)
I wanted to be a linguist, but missed the DLAB by 10 points. I was very stressed not knowing what else I would want to do. Finding you has now made me happy and hopeful. Thank you!
Oh my god! You got both of my top two jobs I wanted! I really wanted photojournalism because I love photography but I studied so much on the mechanics and electrical sections so much that majority of my jobs were those and sadly I did not get photojournalism. But congrats with being able to do photojournalism!
Thanks so much for making that video! Photo journalism is one of the careers I have been considering, and I am so grateful to get the most accurate and in depth info possible!
Too young for AF rn, but I'm currently in Civil Air Patrol (the AF Auxillary) and when I'm 18 I plan to go into the AF and work with MWD's (military working dogs) and your videos are extremely informational and enjoyable. Thank you! ILYSM!!!💙👍
Great video! My husband went to BMT (3 years ago) open general with hopes of getting photojournalism and thankfully it worked out for him! Ft. Meade was awesome, I loved living there while he was at tech school. There really is so much to do and see there. Sounds like tech school there has chilled out a little bit, which is nice. My husband was only allowed to go to D.C. once. But I spent almost all my time there haha it's one of my favorite cities (I spent a semester of college there so I had a bunch of friends there too which was great). He's transitioning to com cam this summer and is so excited! When he first got there, he was out on shoots all the time, but now he's at a desk a lot. He hates the "PA side" of the job as he calls it. He's in charge of the media team right now so he handles all the social media and coordinating with civilian media. And right now they're hearing up for an Air Show so he's working like 14 hour days. He hates doing the desk job stuff, so he's thrilled to be moving into a position that's pretty much just photography with com cam. It's Joint Base Charleston in South Carolina. It's a Navy/Air Force joint base. But yeah, sounds like he'll be gone a lot once he starts com cam. Lots of TDYs and deployments. I plan on making some videos with him about it once he starts!
FIRST OF ALL! your makeup is so beautiful! omg to die for. ♡ Ok! I want to join the AirForce so I went to youtube and I was so glad to find you. I've been doing my research and I even got the ASVAB for dummies but I still haven't get in contact with a recruiter. lol I'm not soooo nervous since I found you and my friend gave me a bunch of advices haha. I think I have to be reserve hmm welp I'm married and with a baby (almost 2) AND I LIVE IN NORTH DAKOTA 😂 so I wiiiish to stay here. Wish I could meet in person, I know how boring ND could be :'o hnnng (I'm from Puerto Rico) but yeah anyway... I'll keep watching your videos!
I found your channel by coincidence and i enjoy your last videos . And now i disover that you are a photojournalist in the air force like me ! The difference is that i'm in the french Air Force. But even from another country perspective I can relate everything you say, interaction with other squadrons, "crime scenes", making fun by other squadrons beasue you sit on a chair almost all day because of the time you have to put on Lightroom. All the truth and nothing but the thruth. :)
I’m in the air national guard and it is a hit or miss with going to tech school right after BMT. It all depends on if they have tech school dates open. For instance they don’t have any open spots for my job until October so I am going to BMT next month and then coming home and then going back to texas for tech school in October. Sometimes it may work out in the way that you do go straight there after basic. The active duty members get seniority over us so once a stop opens we can take it.
I have been watching your videos for a while now and I thought I have been subscribed the whole time, turns out I wasn’t ughhh. Anyway I love your videos!
Thanks for the video! I’m going coast guard and this is the job I want, but In coast guard you have to wait for every job. this one is about a year or two wait 😩
*I feel like brat, but I'm glad you mentioned the lack of diversity in North Dakota because I live in Portland on the west coast and the lack of diversity here bothers me, for a big city, it's so white. Also, I hate cold weather, so North Dakota would be rough for me! Your job seems awesome, I'm a pilot and youtuber, but I'm taking a Journalism class now and I think you may have one of the cooler jobs in the service! thanks for this video* :)
How often do you get deployed as a photojournalist? Is there any part of photojournalism that is dangerous (having to take pictures on like battlefields, things like that). Can you make a video talking about deployment also?
Hey Elora: Thank you for the video. My son was awarded a contract for Photojournalism. He graduated BMT on Friday and today landed in Baltimore. We have watched all of your videos and are curious about Ft Meade and if you had an advice for someone who is actually in the career field. Thanks so much Elora!!
I'm intending on enlisting into the Air Force and my passion is writing. However in photo journalism it sounds like you focus more on photography, hence the name. Is there an area that I can really... focus on developing my writing more so... lol preferably something that I can still be expressive and creative. Idk if this makes sense but thank you! You're awesome!
That’s awesome you got this job ! Still waiting on mine to get booked but my recruiter told me that it’s super rare to get the photojournalist job :/ i picked mainly cyber ,intell , and maintenance
Thank you for all the info you provide in this video. I'm in the process of joining the Navy and originally REALLY wanted a Mass Comm Specialist job (the equivalent of AF's Photojournalist with additional graphic design skills), but I'm reconsidering now because what's most important to me is advancing in rank as fast as possible... and the more you advance, the less of your original job duties you do (in theory)... and the more supervisory your duties become (so job assignment almost becomes irrelevant or a moot point). I feel like I could do my photography/graphic design interests as a side (freelance) job... instead of trying to make it my military career. I'd like your thoughts on this... the changes in job duties as you advance in rank and how much that may weigh on one's decision (of which job to choose) and their experience in their field of work.
I came across your video completely by accident from an unrelated video and figured I'd watch it since I drive by the Defense Information School (DINFOS) on my way to work each day and wondered what you guys do as I've encountered quite a few its students around the post. About the only things I've said to the students is to not photograph any of the facilities that have fences around them, surveillance cameras, "No Photography Permitted" signs, electronic keypads on the doors, or there are police at the gates, which I'm sure you know what I'm referring to. The combat camera squadron at Charleston AFB, SC (where I was once stationed over 20 years ago), that you mentioned is the 1st Combat Camera Squadron and yes, they deploy everywhere, all of the time, according to a former co-worker who was married to a girl from that unit. If you want to become aircrew rated so you can be one of the people who takes photographs from aircraft while in flight, that's the unit to get assigned to.
Omg I’m in the first few seconds still but I don’t think I even had a clue you had this AFSC. I’m sooo happy because this is the job I’m currently trying to get 😬😁🤗 and now I’ll finish watching 😅
I’m 17 years old and I graduate high school in June. I am currently thinking about going into the Air Force and photojournalism is the first thing that interested me. You video helped me a lot, and I think this is definitely something I will enjoy doing for a long period of time. Do you think this will be your forever career? Have you always wanted to go into photojournalism?
Omggg thank you so much ,I’m deciding on which branch and career I wanna pursue I love taking pictures and I love English so I think this would be the perfect career for me . You explain it so well I really appreciate it 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I was Admin in the AF but you don’t know how bad i wanted to be a photojournalist, which is what i’m studying now in college...lowkey highkey jealous of you.
Thanks to the assignment gods.... i didn't get station in the northern states. Guam, new mexico, korea and west texas. And traveled to many places as a security police. Now security forces. You got a bright future, don't let the north get under your skin. I'm grateful for all the people and places.
Started watching your channel a couple weeks ago when I decided I’m gonna join the AF when I’m 18. Thanks for sharing your experience! I still got noo idea what job I wan’t. I like photography but idk if id wan’t another job more.
I’m so thankful that I found your videos, I’m very big on preparing myself beforehand and I don’t turn 18 until next year so I have a whole year before I can enlist. Your videos have saved me the stress lol ! Anyways, I was going to ask you: Are you required to go to college when enlisted ?
12:14 🙋🏻♂️ I see you haha And really we just ended up on opposite sides of the “operational” spectrum. Like for PA at Nellis we have this thing we call “Nellis Normal” which is by no means ACTUALLY normal. It’s basically tending to the 6 Wings and 52 tenant units on the base that require photography support so we’re ALWAYS busy with last-minute tasks and rarely get time to do projects or assignments that we’re genuinely interested in. Not to say I won’t still do my best, but taking a group photo is different than imbedding with the K9 or EOD unit for a day and getting some solid photos and a half decent story youknowhatimsayin? Nellis is also just super busy because of all the training exercises that units from around the WORLD come to participate in. Definitely have had some great opportunities and met some great people that I don’t think I would’ve had in any other job or at any other base and I’m thankful for that and feel like I show that with the amount of effort I put into my work lol Nonetheless, I’m super stoked for you and your channel! It’s growing exponentially and I’m really looking froward to what you got going on next! Hope all is well with ya and looking froward to the day Grand Forks PA comes down to Nellis 😁
Woooowww it's even crazier than I imagined. I mention "my friend who works at Nellis" all the time to compare job tempos hahaha. There's always pros and cons, I may be a bit bored but I have time for school and such, which doesn't seem like a thing over there. Thanks for the support though, I reeeeallly hope I can at least visit :)
Elora Jean haha yeahh I barely have time for CDCs and other “Airman” duties because it’s always go, go, go over here. A lot of the training I have done or things I have learned have been via RUclips or on my own time which sucks but I still love what I do so it’s not too terrible 🙂
Haha, my recruiter actually did make fun of Broadcasting. He told me “Who needs broadcasting? I have my phone, I can google stuff, I don’t need to watch them”. I think he just kept getting people who wanted that AFSC
You are the first Air Force RUclipsr that helps me be less nervous about joining the military
yes same.
As a photographer myself trying to join the Air Force right now, I’m so RELIEVED to find your videos I was so scared of the idea of having to leave that side of me behind. You’re amazing thanks so much for sharing this!

I'm glad you made this video. I'm a photography major and would love to join the air force and was struggling to pick something I could stick with for 20 yrs. After hearing this video I'm definitely going to wait for this job to open up.
are you still waiting?
You make me so much more comfortable with going to see a recruiter for the AF. 😭✈️🇺🇸💙

I got the photojournalist job and I'm a bit nervous for tech school since ive never been good at writing essays or writing in general
Well I hope you have fun, first of all, and secondly it's okay if it's not your strong-suit because they teach you all about that.
luis ruiz I’m worried about this as well, let me know how it goes!

Thank you for helping me haha, I can't wait to watch your channel to grow even more (:
I'm so glad I could help! And thank you so much it's really exciting to see it going places :)
How often do you get deployed as a photojournalist? Is there any part of photojournalism that is dangerous (having to take pictures on like battlefields, things like that). Can you make a video talking about deployment also?
I was skeptical about joining but I think after watching half of your videos I can’t fucking wait 😭
This is the job I am crossing my fingers for.
i’m leaving for the air force on october 6th and i’m going to be a photojournalist :)
Can you make a video on preparing to join the air force?
I'm intending on enlisting into the Air Force and my passion is writing. However in photo journalism it sounds like you focus more on photography, hence the name. Is there an area that I can really... focus on developing my writing more so... lol preferably something that I can still be expressive and creative. Idk if this makes sense but thank you! You're awesome!
I love photography so I would love this job
That’s awesome you got this job ! Still waiting on mine to get booked but my recruiter told me that it’s super rare to get the photojournalist job :/ i picked mainly cyber ,intell , and maintenance
Any updates? Which AFSC did you get picked for?
I love your facial expressions!
Casia Rose make sure you ask tons of questions and take notes!!
You explain it so well I really appreciate it 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Love this! And love you! xx
Love this video! I’m about to join and definitely want to do broadcast journalism.
Thanks for this video I’m in the army and this is helpful to me in making my decision to possibly switch
CIERA MICHELLE I’m in the army too I want to gtf out
Broo that seems like so much fun
You’re hilarious !! I love this. Shared it with my sister
Very well spoken and great in depth detail of your job.
I was Admin in the AF but you don’t know how bad i wanted to be a photojournalist, which is what i’m studying now in college...lowkey highkey jealous of you.
My exact thoughts! Im admin but came in wanting this 😑
Thanks to the assignment gods.... i didn't get station in the northern states. Guam, new mexico, korea and west texas. And traveled to many places as a security police. Now security forces. You got a bright future, don't let the north get under your skin. I'm grateful for all the people and places.
You and your videos seriously inspire me to join the Air Force
Thanks for encouraging people like us who are thinking of joining😊😊😊😊
Started watching your channel a couple weeks ago when I decided I’m gonna join the AF when I’m 18. Thanks for sharing your experience! I still got noo idea what job I wan’t. I like photography but idk if id wan’t another job more.

DINFOS... Made some great memories/friends in my time there!!
Awesome information this is exactly what I wanted to know about. THANKS! :)
Holy this is great information! thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
I live about an hour and a half away from grand forks! I wish I could meet you 😭 (the fun in ND is in the small towns ironically)
This really helped me, thank you so much
I’m so thankful that I found your videos, I’m very big on preparing myself beforehand and I don’t turn 18 until next year so I have a whole year before I can enlist. Your videos have saved me the stress lol ! Anyways, I was going to ask you: Are you required to go to college when enlisted ?
College is absolutely not a requirement for enlisting!
I love your videos so much and they are so helpful❤️I think you should do a vlog video, I would love to see that.
That's next on my list!
12:14 🙋🏻♂️ I see you haha
And really we just ended up on opposite sides of the “operational” spectrum.
Definitely have had some great opportunities and met some great people that I don’t think I would’ve had in any other job or at any other base and I’m thankful for that and feel like I show that with the amount of effort I put into my work lol
Nonetheless, I’m super stoked for you and your channel!
Can you make video of all the job in the airforce and what they do to help me pick out what job I would be best at? Please and thank you
So is combat camera like an option? Because me personally I WOULDN'Twant to be combat camera....i just want to be a photo journalist.
Pedro Tello it is optional, I was told it is a separate job.
Haha, my recruiter actually did make fun of Broadcasting. He told me “Who needs broadcasting? I have my phone, I can google stuff, I don’t need to watch them”.
I think he just kept getting people who wanted that AFSC
