Hii!! I have a few questions (there are very few female mainteners online so I don’t really have anyone to ask). 1. Do you get to work with other women in your shop? I know that there’s a huge gap in the male to female ration in the mechanical field, but I’m wondering if you still get to work and be friends with other women in your shop. 2. I’ve done a bit of research about jobs in the USAF that I’m interested in and they are either mechanical or electrical (or both). Do you think my height being 4’11 girly will be a huge problem for me if I get a mechanical/ electrical job (like HVAC-R, Aerospace Propulsion, Avionics Test Station and Components, or Mission Generation Vehicular Maintenance)? 3. Do you enjoy your job as a maintener? If you can go back in time, would you still choose a maintenance job? I’m not really interested in computer work and want something that’s handy. I’ve never been mechanically inclined, but I’ve been interested in it since last year. I’m just curious if it’s worth it being in a mechanical field as a woman. 4. Also, I initially wanted to work on aircraft but majority says that it’s usually long-hours of work and shitty work environment that’s why I don’t even want to consider those. Almost everyone online discourages others to work in maintenance, do you think those comments regarding maintenance-for the lack of better word-sucking are mostly true? 5. Can you also make a video about tips on how to study in tech school? Was tech school difficult? If you’ve read until this point, just know that I appreciate you A LOT for making videos like this because like I mentioned, there aren’t much female mainteners online. The lack of information about being in a mechanical field (or any male-dominated field for that matter) as a woman makes it intimidating to enter the field. Thank you so much😚. LOL my son just joined and he's currently at Lackland for BMT!!!! His MOS will be mechanical but he's like you were he doesn't know what job yet. I hope he lucks up and gets a good job like you and to do tech school in Florida sounds nice as well :) Thanks for sharing this information

After your video, I really hope you are in different headspace now, now that I have cross trained I can show how to apply and what to do. I’m personally glad I cross trained, the best decision I’ve made since I’ve joined . I already knew since tech school maintenance is not for me.

Been doing this for 18+ years and I learn new shit every day, you'll never learn it all, but you'll learn enough to make everyone else in the room look at you like they just ate marbles and give you the blank stare. you'll be alright.

The civilian side of working on base is also toxic so I understand. I’m sorry you went through it-I didn’t realize how miserable I was until I had to move and work in the civilian world. While I admit that I had my hand in situations at work where I was in the wrong or immature, there was a purposeful stifling of growth, which seems to be the typical scenario in a lot of what I experienced there. When there was a well rounded manager things were good, but when someone who didn’t manage well was in place it fell apart. While I appreciate the experience I had, I am glad that chapter in my life is finished. I have no plans to return.

i did 4 years AD and 8 in the Guard and got tf out cause I couldn't do it anymore.. get them benefits, document your medical and take those benefits and leave... if you ware going to stay in finish your degree as much as you can, BW are treated terribly in each branch ive seen BM get out specifically bc they don't like how BW are treated, i have alot of mental health diagnosis bc of my time in the military solely due to how i was treated. try palace chasing if you feel you can't wait for your leadership to change

I had the most toxic job ive ever had and i haven't worked in 2 years since i quit 💀 ive always worked and been a hard worker but that job destroyed me and im scared ill never recover. If one hears the same criticisms over and over you start to believe it - cant believe i let such a stupid job destroy my self esteem this much, i hate it

As someone who’s still in the military (almost 10 years) I literally have never gotten recognition! I don’t get put up for awards individually but as a group. I’ve had my supervisors take MY WORK & get quarterly awards for it. I’ve had to literally seek help outside my shop to finally get my NCO promotion. Don’t feel bad, toxic shops seem to be the norm in the military-just remember you’re not there to make friends but you better make sure they at least respect you! Respect goes a lot further than if they “like” you in the military sometimes. I’ve constantly been deliberating if I wanna keep re-enlisting bc of all the politics too. Hope it turns around for you ❤️

Toxic work environments are pretty much the norm for black women and I'm so sorry that you're facing this. But you are not alone. And you are doing so well! Going forward, please do not allow anyone to pull you to the side and criticize you and project their negative energy on to you. There is a very fine line between feedback and criticism, and it sounds like people are spewing hate to make you feel bad as opposed to sharing feedback, to help you grow. Pray, seek God's counsel, and make the reading and studying of Proverbs a daily part of your devotion time. I promise, it will do wonders for your mindset, perspective, and faith. I also advise you to lean on the support of your community, be that family, friends, church members, or the chaplain. Black women all around the us, be it in corporate america, education, or academia, are dealing with the very same things. You are not alone. You are an amazing woman. And God has amazing plans for your life. Do not let these fools distract you. God has great plans for you. Be encouraged. You know the moves you have to make and you will find a workplace, and team who loves you, supports you, and helps you grow, and get to the places where you want to go. There is NO need to stick it out in an environment that is toxic or hateful. You've got PLENTY of options outside of the military. And if you decide to stay in, that is perfectly fine too. But let the struggle go. May the Lord guide you forward in peace.❤

Don’t give up and if you can retrain I would! I had a friend who was RAWS and retrained because it was toxic and she was unhappy

I’ve watched you for so long that I decided I wanted to join! I have been at my first duty station for a year and some change now and I had no guidance what so ever. I was my own SGT. My unit has abused, used and confused the hell out of me and its making think if I should reenlist. Toxic leadership needs to be removed immediately!

This is the exact reason I left in January. My life is so much better now and I feel more free 🙏🏾 on my way out the door everyone kept telling me I wouldn’t make it on the outside and I’m doing amazing
