Very cool video - I've watched it a few times and will be watching it again. I love this plugin and have barely scratched the surface of using it. All of the Kazrog plugins I have are utterly amazing. Subtle gains, adding up to huge gains. You are really going over it here, and I think the next time I watch this I'll have a sample project open and do all the things you are doing. I find the lyrics of the song you are mixing very interesting, too! "Don't point your energy at some cause with no attending sympathy". Man, that's the kind of self consideration that anybody wanting others to change their conduct needs to possess... Kind of refreshing to hear that conscientious approach to presenting the 'conviction' generally present in reggae music. Cool. If I understand the lyrics correctly, my complements to the song writer! Somebody needed to write this song. "Don't take out your guilty conscience on me." Cuz there's a whoooole lot of that going on in the world.
Wow, the “tube path” emulation is pretty strong. I like the sound of it quite a bit, but it’s stronger than I expected. The peak reduction is impressively transparent in the first few db of reduction. The chosen EQ bands are an interesting and useful grouping. It looks like KAZROG has another winner on their hands. 👍👍 I very much like the direction that KAZOG has taken with the company - they release only a FEW digital audio plugins, compared to most other companies at least, but what they HAVE been releasing in the past couple of years have been VERY good products. They are approaching the HIGHEST rating that any plugin creator can reach - “I’ll take it without even hearing it first.” I don’t need to tell you that this represents an ENORMOUS amount of trust in what the company is putting out. For example, UAD held that kind of reputation for quite a while back in the 20-teen years. Just like their transformer emulation called IRON, I could easily see using a mixing template that had an instance of this AVALON loaded on every channel. Nice work, KAZROG. Nice work indeed. 👍😎👍
History repeats yet again. I get flustered because I've painted myself into a corner trying to achieve something with a plugin. I then see if Mike's done a video on the plugin and he has. I basically copy the settings that Mike likes and bingo! Not only that, but I've noticed that various advice he has given over the years prove itself true time and time again. I'm looking forward to doing his courses, I know I will really enjoy and benefit from them.
Nice view ..There's was also a really nice demo on produce like a pro, where they used several instances, on the drum room, acoustic guitar, bass, vocals, mixbus and... I'm forgetting something.... The accumulated effect was very nice. They went ahead and used the tube section in there and It really added a lot of sheen. They balanced it so it wasn't overly warmed. The air is pretty spectacular when mixed with the tube circuitry in my opinion. Ah... As I watch on it looks like you're probably going there too!
Thanks Mike. I found this video particularly interesting, mostly because of how little changes you should make to the sound on the mixbus or master. You highlight perfectly it's the mix itself where all the hard work goes in, and all a plugin should do at this stage is stick a cherry on the top.
Thank you for this video. Am looking to apply this to group bus channels for Trance production to see how it fairs. Appreciate all of the info and demo!
747 is a bit more open sounding but I think the 737 has a richer low end. 747 has more flexibility with the compressor and the 737 has more flexibility with the EQ
did you actually watch the video? he literally says in the beginning that the 737 is a channel strip most used for vocal tracking and this is a mixbus compressor. i.e. two different units used for 2 diff things. literally says this 2 minutes in.
@@FromTheHipp that wasn't my question, I'm well aware of that. If you reread my comment you'll notice I wrote **UAD** 737. This is to imply I'm interested in finding out the differences in sound quality, modeling and best use cases of the **plugin** versions of these processors. Mike easily picked up on this because anyone who has been mixing for any length of time will know that the use cases of the original hardware will often not translate to the plugin version. This can manifest both positively and negatively, hence, "off-label" usage of plugins in my workflow is not at all uncommon. How about you?
Curious as to what OS you’re running, I’m running OS 12.7 (the minimum to run this is 10.5) and when the UI is on screen it creates a glitching effect on the whole session…when I collapse the plug-in the glitching disappears. It still sounds great…but any ideas why that visual glitching is happening for me?
@@mixingwithmike Thanks Mike, I did. I was informed that I needed to be running at least 10.5 to run the plug-in…?… last I checked,12 was a bigger number than 10…so needless to say, I’m very confused.
@@terenceblack3724 No worries, I had a feeling that's what you meant. The 747 is designed for mix bus processing and the 737 for individual track processing. Sonically they both have the same Avalon sound signature just optimized differently
I really like the song, and because it has a lot of space in it, it is very good for demonstrating what the plugin is doing. It is also a blessed relief when hearing something repetitively not to be assaulted by some totally unsuitable overmixed hype, or a drum loop robotically on repeat, which many videos do.

Quite fantastic! I think a few Vietnamese studios have used it already

Recommend zooming recording onto the screen section in use as the plugin controls aren't very visible with the whole mixer in view like this

Saw some Vietnamese mixers or engineers like to use this for vocal with the high shelf I think. Not everyone obviously, but a few
but the song keep saying "I can't buy what you're selling me" 😭😭😭😭😭
HAHAHA! Might have to use the second verse.
Awesome plugin!!!! Cheers!
thanks!
where can we get this at? I wanna try it
Thanks Mike. I need to shoot this out with the UAD 737

How does this compare in your mind to the UAD 737? Any pros/cons for both?

Acustica Amber 3 and kazrog avalon747 which is better?
Yo Mike, can we please learn more mixing with hip hop songs ? I hope all is well !
Thanks for the overview... Is it safe to assume that the side-chain "thresholds" are actually boost cut controls for a side chain eq?
yes
side chain for the compression

OS 12.6.7 on an intel xeon Mac Pro. Worth reporting to Kazrog.

How would you compare this to the UAD Voxbox?

I rather like the song. He uses a few regularly and they have enough range and scope to really demonstrate what his PIOTW does imho.
