You mentioned Glenn Hughes. He joined Deep Purple in 1974. He played bass and sung in Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, California Breed, Hughes Turner Project/HTP, The Dead Daisies and was the vocalist on the Black Sabbath album Seventh Star.
Hi Mollyboy that was awesome. Ritchie Blackmore on guitar one of the best guitarists on the planet. Ian Gillan on vocals. You probably know one of their songs SMOKE ON THE WATER. GILLAN AND DIO ARE MY 2 FAVOIRITE VOCALISTS. DEEP PURPLE ARE STILL ON THE GO WITH IAN GILLAN ON VOCALS 😊🤘🤘💖
Please hit Trapeze! Particularly off their second album, You Are the Music... We're Just the Band, title song. Glenn Hughes amazing vocals and rock funk vibe.

@roymauler Yup, I'm mostly listening to European prog rock & prog metal bands - there's quite a scene! Also quite a few good bands out of Australia too - Wheel, Voyager, Caligula's Horse, Karnivool.
Singer Iain Gillan is the absolute archetype for the heavy metal voice. His falsetto (really high voice) and his SCREAM is what gave us legends like Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson. Every member of this magnificent band is a virtuoso in their own right coming together to bring us MAGIC.
@@DB-bx7fm - Correct. can't forget Eric "death to false metal" Adams 😁👍. I suspect another singer strongly influenced by Gillan as well is Geoff Tate from QueensrRyche.
To people who aren't that immersed in keyboard players' world it might sound strange, but playing a Hammond keyboard is entirely different from playing any other keyboard. There are entirely different techniques to the art, many of them based on playing seemingly dissonant notes, playing legato (letting the tone continue) where a regular pianist/keyboardist would only do a quick tap, using the tone generator's resonance to create various effects, etc. Basically you can spend 10 years learning piano techniques, reading musical score from paper, getting a "feel" for the instruments.. then you start studying Hammond keyboard and throw away three quarters of the stuff you thought you knew, and study for another five or ten years to be a good player. There are rare exceptions of players who have a natural talent for playing in that manner, and those can turn the keyboard into a true Beast - like Jon Lord did.
You are young. I love your honesty. I am an old fart. UK had the best groups since forever. American play to a formula. The story behind Deep Purple's song 'Highway Star' is bonkers and really highlights just how good they actually were: They were doing an interview on their tour bus between venues, and the reporter asked them about how they wrote their songs. In response, front man Ian Gillan asked the reporter for a topic (a car was the choice), drummer Ian Paice to give him a beat, and bassist Roger Glover for a bass line. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore then chimed in that he had a riff he thought would work, and John Lord (keyboard) joined in shortly thereafter. Within 15 minutes, the beginnings of 'Highway Star' had taken shape, and it was ready for performance by the time they arrived at their destination.
The guitarist Richie Blackmore later formed Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio, who later replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath. When Dio left Sabbath in 1982, he was replaced by Deep Purple's singer Ian Gillian for one album. Deep Purple's song "Lazy" is definitely not lazy.
You're listening to one of the greatest rock groups in history. This is true musicianship. There's nothing like this nowadays. All members with superb talents. Their album Machinehead is iconic. This band made me fall in love with the organ. Don't miss the lyrics though. He's singing about the horrors of war.

They are always so good live but I would strongly advise you to check out the studio recording of that one. It's just absolutely blazes and then you see Jon Lord playing simultaneously these faster arpeggios for a bit with Ritchie Blackmore on the guitar, and everything about it just Cooks like crazy and it's so filled with attitude and it's just Balls to the wall.
There is such a long-running joke about how many people have been issued speeding tickets while blasting this as they cruise down the road. It's an absolute banger, and they really show off on that one.
This is one of one of my favorite pieces of music. Deep Purple was one of the original Heavy Metal Bands.🤘🤘🤘🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Definitely do more Deep Purple, you will not be disappointed!!
My favorite band growin up! Ian Gillan had some pipes!! "Woman from Tokyo" and "Lazy" ❤ [Glenn Hughes didn't join Purple til much later]
I'm so glad I grew up listening to bands like this
I've seen this performance video maybe 100 times and it is captivating each and every time. What an amazing band!!
Always gets me how Roger Glover is just shredding the bass line throughout Richie Blackmore’s solo
This is an incredible song! Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover are a force to be reckoned with!
don't forget Jon Lord
Or the magnificent Ian Paice, one of the best ever.
Fastest and smoothest hands in the business. His drum solo from Copenhagen 1972 is insane.
Yep, never flustered, drives it relentlessly forward and I concur, got the dvd of that show and I'm staggered every time I watch it.
Every member a true legend. Jon Lord on keyboards, Ian Gillan singing, Ian Paice drumming, Roger Glover on bass, and the incomparable Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. You should check out Rainbow (also with Blackmore on guitar) and their song 'Stargazer'.
100% Check out Rainbow Stargazer! DIO is a vocal legend! ( RIP RJD)
Jeez, The audience are amazed, they are just in shock, they have never, ever, ever, heard vocals like this.
Highway Star for guitar and keyboard hijinks my man! Your reaction is why I love these types of channels because I think ( I could be wrong) that you'd have never come across this music on your own or listened to it. Thanks for the video.
You’re absolutely right. Without this channel, I don’t think I’d ever have listened to half the songs I have

Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan was the biggest influence on Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson.
Ian Gillan, what a voice.
His voice in Jesus Christ Superstar was unworldly!
Their bassist is great and often overlooked as well. I’ve played some of his bass lines. It’s a test of endurance
I love Deep Purple, and the rabbit hole is deep. Ritchie Blackmore is still my favorite guitarist.
Let's welcome this young man to real music's world. When talented people make music with real oldscool instruments or their voises, only thing you need computer for is to spread that talent to the world.
I literally said "oh yes!" out loud and clicked instantly. I hope you go huge bro, you're great. empathy, realness, kind way of speaking etc. props to you, cheers! ✌💚
Cream, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Nazareth, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, Three Dog Night, and many others had great influence over my decision to embrace heavy rock-n-roll. I was born in 1960 and grew up with this genre of music.
Perfect line up, but you forgot Uriah Heep.
You can thank the audience for such a fine recording.
They asked the audience to remain quiet as they would be recording.
Ian Gillan had a 5 octave range.
Smoke on the Water
Lazy Highway Star
........
That keyboard blaaaa blaaa blaaa was Flight of the Butterfly. He was showing off his classical training. John was a master.
Flight of the bumblebee
@@Musicdok lol. Funny good catch. Of course I knew that but I was on strong pain meds when I posted. Good thing I wasn’t operating heavy equipment.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This might be my favorite reaction ever. I am a fan from this day forward. You have a great attitude.
Deep Purple is definitely a band that you need to dig into more. In my opinion, they were the epitom of 70's heavy metal.
It's a must to hear the whole "Deep purple in rock"...
Deep Purple...HighwayStar is a must!!❤❤❤
As most people will say in these comments, an amazing performance by ALL band members, vocals, guitar, drums, bass and keyboard and LIVE !!
