THE BEST REACTION, or at least the real understanding of this song. Indeed, this is a song about the war and the people crying for their children, for the innocent persons death by the war. I really love your reaction, you are a very sensitive person, this is a great song, maybe one of the most beautiful compositions by Deep Purple. But there are more than only sadness, there is also good and happy feelings by this great band, I recommend you to react to some other great songs like HIGHWAY STAR, LAZY, and STRANGE KIND OF WOMAN from their live album called MADE IN JAPAN from 1972. Thank you, it was a pleasure to watch you react through the entire song, your face, your eyes, your arms moving were so special. Thank you again.
This is exactly why you are in my top 3 RUclipsrs. You react so intelligently and you so get what the song lyrics are representing with heartfelt emotion. Deep Purple is the type of band that sounds way better live than in the studio. They are real musicians who are on top of their craft. Try "Highway star" live and of course "Smoke on the water" live.
Deep Purple is considered one of the three "Godfathers" of Rock/Metal... along with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. They are a truly extremely talented band that made a LOT of great music and influenced a LOT of future bands! Try their "Smoke on the Water" next, and others to consider... in no particular order - Highway Star - Woman from Tokyo - Space Trucking - Burn - Hush - Perfect Strangers I could go on...

This was their most requested song for years, but Ian Gillan (singer) has said that he had to stop singing it live because it took such a toll on his voice.
I think it was the booze and fags that ruined his vocal range. His falling out with Richie got much worse as Richie insisted they did this song despite Ian's voice!
A brit named Fil insinuated Blackmore was pushing Ian to sing it perpetually and Ian's vocal chords were damaged. Blackmore, in hindsight, disliked Gillan and didn't care.
@sharonelliott2366 Fil carefully worded this to avoid trouble from Blackmore. Gillan suffered audible vocal chord damage as early as a 1971 performance- to Blackmore's delight.
Young lady glad that you are a woman of culture. About deep purple what can we say we have artists like Jon Lord in keyboards , Ian Paice at drums ,Hughes and Blackmore at guitars words are not enough to describe the level of creativity and imagination they had in songwriting and playing. To amyone that wants more goosebumps suit yourself to hear theis song April and you see that in that song their creativity is on another level😊
One of the forefathers of Heavy Metal! Gillan on vocals inspired so many Metal vocalists, Blackmore on guitar the riff master, inspired multiple generations of future shredders, Lord on the keyboards untouchable legend. What a band, live were incredible, just magical!
Thank you, you are the first one who immediately though of Vietnam and the war, the bit at the end I think is very haunting and scary, the thought of blowing your mind against the wall is all too common from vets
Ian Gillan is incredible. One of my all time favorite singers. He was also in Black Sabbath for the album Born Again. Awesome album. Zero The Hero crushes.🤘
So good to see your face relax during the song. I'm one generation ahead of you and I remember the first time I heard Child in Time in the late 1990s when it was remastered and relaunched. And guess what these guys still tour, some are dead, but Gillian is still singing. They don't do Child in Time Anymore cause this is really not for 75 yos to sing. But they're still surprisingly great.
Here are other Deep Purple classics that one must listen if him/her enjoyed their music and want to explore the band further. These are songs that I heard countless times during my teenage years (even though I was born in the eighties and, except for the last song, all of them are from the seventies): 1) Highway Star; 2) Burn; 3) Mistreated; 4) You Fool No One; 5) A Gypsy's Kiss.

I don't like to criticise other bands, but the Beatles could only ever dream about writing anything this brilliant, this emotional or thought provoking (let alone being able to actually play it). Pure genius. I lost my sight 20 years ago. 'When a Blind Man Cries' literally saved my life.
Thank you Lilly Jane! Ian Gillian is such a great vocalist. They remain on of my favorite bands. "Highway Star" "Space Truckin" "Lazy". Some good ones. Thanks again Lily Jane. Loved your reaction to this song!

Is the war over? No, it starts up somewhere else :( This is from my youth, amazing to see you enjoying it. Deep Purple "Made in Japan" Live!
Deep Purple was the loudest live band. Some of their best include Hush, My Woman from Tokyo, and Smoke on the Water. I have never heard a mediocre song by Deep Purple. The 60's and 70's were the best time for creative music.
It is reassuring that many of the youth of today find this 60's and 70's era music so great. This is a genre of music, that even 50 years from now will be held in awe. Back then we used the music of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc....as a means of escape. Fifty years fast forward.....I still regularly play these soundtracks with my speakers 100% volumn, looking again for that "escape". Like @billpet4602 said.....we didn't know back then we were truly experiencing the "golden age" of music..... a type of music that only comes around once in 1000 years.
i saw deep purple for the first time on vhs in the video 'Doing their things' where this Child in Time is featured... i was 16, now 32 more and i still haven't managed to see any live shows on video better than this, just as i still haven't managed to listen to a live show better than their Live in Stockholm 1970. The best live band ever, capable of mixing rock, blues, jazz and classical with an apparent simplicity, without ever losing an incredible power in every note.
By far the most emotional reaction. So sincere. I was in my early twenties by this time. We were the lucky generation, music-wise. The dark side was the Vietnam War, but that is a completely different subject.
Music from my youth. Music in my old age. Real music. Simply magnificent music. How can I EVER thank the musos of those days for the joy and pleasure they have given me over so many years. The world will NEVER see such a beautiful age ever again. I'm immensely thankful that I lived in that age.
I've heard this song soooo many times. My 2 older brothers had a garage band in the late 60's. This is the only song they knew. I had to listen to it over and over.
Hey LJ - You nailed it with how they composed the music to represent the sounds and chaos of combat. Pioneers and excellent musicians that every person who appreciates talented musicians should check out and hear why us gen x folks say - we may be old but we grew up with the best bands and seeing the best concerts ever - peace
Deep Purple are still active, writing new songs and are on stage for their live concerts. Although they don't play "Child in time" anymore (the singer can't sing high enough for that song now he is older) they are still very very good.
people are always blown away when they hear deep purple - stuff these days often seems just computer generated and auto tuned - this is just raw talent!
If you love this you will love Led zeppelin , was fortunate enough to see both live back in the day , start with “ since I’ve been loving you “ live …. Out of this world !
What you were experiencing, kind of rocking out in your chair, during the song, after the "machine gun" part, illustrates the intensity of the catharsis that was needed by people during that time. I can remember being at concerts where most of the people were not able to continue to sit during the songs and would stand up and dance right where they were. It was as if it siphoned off the sadness, fear, and rage that was a predominant state of being for many young people. Awesome review! Thank you.
Great reaction Lily. I like how you emotionally immersed yourself in this performance. Ian Gillan has a hell of voice and Richie Blackmore is a great guitarist and Jon Lord was exceptional on the keyboards. This is obviously a protest song about the war in Vietnam. Richie Blackmore went on to form the band Rainbow. Recommend next the song Highway Star
We didn't realize back then (70s)that we were growing up in a "golden age" of music and creativity.
An Era that won't ever be seen again...
60's and 70's
Das denke ich auch immer, obwohl ich musikalisch dort hängen geblieben bin...lg
Yes it was the era of creation and now it is the era of copying, no talent just copy the classics.
Fantastic performance! But also totay are existing some magical bands! Nightwish for example.
mwoah overall there is way more talent and creativity as back then. The problem is that there is just WAAAAY more ot it. Hence you don't see it properly.

This is in my top 5 all time for any song in any genre.
I like the way you reacted to this song!
All live, no vocal trickery or autotune
Machine Head was the first album I knew front to back. And there's another new album coming out next month...can't wait!
By far the most emotional reaction. So sincere. I was in my early twenties by this time. We were the lucky generation, music-wise. The dark side was the Vietnam War, but that is a completely different subject.
Child in Time - das beste Stück von Deep Purple !!!
One of my top British Band..Deep Purple! Smoke on the Water song is my favorite ❤❤😊 From Philippines out here 🤘
DEEP PURPLE ITS AMAZING!!🔥🔥🎸🎸💜💜
Music from my youth. Music in my old age. Real music. Simply magnificent music. How can I EVER thank the musos of those days for the joy and pleasure they have given me over so many years. The world will NEVER see such a beautiful age ever again. I'm immensely thankful that I lived in that age.
Damn haven't heard of them before good ass song too
Yep - one of the best...
I've heard this song soooo many times. My 2 older brothers had a garage band in the late 60's. This is the only song they knew. I had to listen to it over and over.
Yes they did. Love deep Purple 💜. Top band. The people were told to stay quiet. Cause it was being recorded
I was 10 years old and i remember like today. A song that talk about war so nice. Unbelievoble Ritchie Blackmor
There will never be a decade again in the earths time like the 70,s when the music was just so brilliant.
Musica .en vivo sin playback genial
Deep Purple are still active, writing new songs and are on stage for their live concerts. Although they don't play "Child in time" anymore (the singer can't sing high enough for that song now he is older) they are still very very good.
I’am a 51 year old man very familiar with is music, love to see your reactions and appreciation ❤️
Girl, you're the kind of peeps I partied with!
Appreciation of talent ❤.
people are always blown away when they hear deep purple - stuff these days often seems just computer generated and auto tuned - this is just raw talent!
Best song EVER 👊🏻👊🏻
@Tel3g.rammeLillyJane0 thanks 👍🏻 give it to someone else, i don’t play the guitar 😁
If you love this you will love Led zeppelin , was fortunate enough to see both live back in the day , start with “ since I’ve been loving you “ live …. Out of this world !
I'm from 1968, they ar build into my roots!!! :-)
Whoa that was great..highway star- space Truckin- lazy - smoke on the water - fireball- and black Night are some more purple gems..
Deep purple
Machine head top of all there albums
What you were experiencing, kind of rocking out in your chair, during the song, after the "machine gun" part, illustrates the intensity of the catharsis that was needed by people during that time. I can remember being at concerts where most of the people were not able to continue to sit during the songs and would stand up and dance right where they were. It was as if it siphoned off the sadness, fear, and rage that was a predominant state of being for many young people. Awesome review! Thank you.
Die beste Band aller Zeiten
Man those hammond organ lines, I'd die for!
🥱 please stop spreading misinformation, this song has nothing to do with Vietnam.
Haven't herd that song in 40 years, still have all my albums from the 70's. Time to dust them off.
Just doesn't get better than this, geez we were lucky to grow up through this time in music :)
