    • @JonathonBarton
      @JonathonBarton 2 года назад +2

      Now that the Sim vs. Sim comparison is in, I'd love to see a comparison of iRacing vs. iRacing - there are NO guides (not *good* guides, but any guides at all, really) on how to configure iRacing's AI overall, and on a Per-Driver level.
      I run a Saturday series in the league I'm in that is usually a mix of 75% GT3, 20% iRX VW Lite, and 5% Indycar Oval - and wherever possible I add GT3 GT4 and TC AI, and i've found them to be basically impossible to dial in correctly - they're either WILDLY faster than everyone...or they're slow as dirt and brake check every live driver behind them (randomly handing out meatballs) in the process of being slow as dirt.
      You seem to have good methodology and have the means to produce a well-documented, well-tested high quality video on the subject, if you were to take it up.

    The thing i hate about ACC AI is that it doesn't make any mistakes. You can run a 3 hour race and the AI won't even slide or touch the grass. It's just super unrealistic, especially running endurance races with the AI, when you lose 10 positions just for one offtrack because they follow each other. The other thing is that it always gets a perfect pitstop. I need to perfectly aim to fit in my box so i don't get moved and lose 3 seconds, while the AI just pits in 30 seconds and is done. If you don't get a perfect pit, you just suddenly lose 5 seconds which is ridiculous.

    Agree that iRacing is best. I love coming round a corner and seeing a car spun out or upside down - that happens a lot in human vs human races, but almost never in AI races. iRacing gets a great balance and it feels like you are racing real people.

    Great list. While I love the driving experience in ACC and getting my safety rating up over an 80, the challenge iRacing brings from their AI is far superior. Knowing that a race is never over due to the sometimes mistakes the AI can make, makes any race a great ride. the other titles don’t come close as most all have the train like experience and the top five drivers rarely make mistakes.

    As someone who does AI races often especially in AC I'd like to add a bit to this.
    At 9:07 you mentioned custom skins and driver personalities for iRacing.
    AC has this option as well (sort of) if you use Content Manager.
    You can download skins for cars and when setting up a race can dial in every single car to a specific value of skill level and aggression and even give them custom names.
    As an example I've recently did a Spa race where every AI was driving a specific car and was named after people who I usually racing with.
    (Also setting AI aggression to 100 in AC often means they'll retire after some point for making a mistake and crashing out.)

    I know this is a year old and you probably won't see this, but I'm curious about some things. First of all, the issue with the AI you talked about is the issue many people have at lower AI levels. Once I started racing AI at around 113 and above, these issues went away and I've heard the same from many others. So I'm curious about what level you had the AI set to. If it was set to adaptive AI, that may be your problem. I heard on a forum from someone who said they worked on adaptive AI that it works very differently from how you described. Of course this is an old video and I have no idea how old that comment was so you might be right about how it worked at the time you uploaded, but this is how adaptive AI works as I currently understand it:
    It only works if you have already done a race on that track with adaptive AI, maybe even with the same car, I don’t remember. You set adaptive AI and it starts from a much lower predetermined level. Then you do the race, and the AI adapts to your performance on that race. It works separately from each track, and it only works in the actual race. One race with adaptive AI is usually not enough to be accurate, and the more races you do the better it gets. But again, it does this separately for each track according to this person rather than an average of all tracks.
    Again, maybe it was/is the way to described it at the time of upload. If you weren't aware of this, maybe that was the issue you had. Or maybe the AI level was set too low. I definitely have seen that the AI don't have the best racecraft but even still, I have had some great races with raceroom AI and I personally wouldn't rate it lower than most of the other sims on here.

    • @Harto1
      @Harto1  Год назад +1

      Hey my man! Appreciate you watching and commenting!
      So to answer that question -
      I had all AI turned to the max skill possible within each sim, with the only one having the 'Adaptive AI' being Raceroom, although I have always found the AI to be a bit shite regardless of time on track and experience racing with them to be honest haha. But each to their own I suppose, I still love RR as a sim and game, but yeah, it's AI for me personally don't offer much in the way of racing :)

  • @Don_Dotta2786

    in raceroom you should race each track for about 5/10 laps with adaptive ai and then choose that you start first and race clean every corner from the start wich should solve that problem

    RUclips suggested this one a bit late to me I see.. but great video. Personally I really like the 'adaptive' mode of the Raceroom AI but I agree with your complaints. I haven't played AMS2 a lot but I had some pretty terrible AI racing there. AC is all over the place, even with the standard Kunos tracks and cars. I did one of the challenge races, in a Ferrari 312 on the old Silverstone layout.
    I must have tried that one 50 times or so - and 49 times the AI kept wrecking me in the first corner, no matter how I tried to avoid them. It's actually on some usermade tracks that the AI is pretty good in AC.
    One nice recent feature in AC (with the CSP mod) is rubberband AI, where they keep close around no. Not realistic but superfun, constant close racing.
    RF2 - runs pretty great in VR, until you add some AI, then the fps drops a ton. So I can only race with something like 8 AI there.
    And Iracing.. since they really started to improve the AI about 2 years ago.. I race more with the AI than online. For roadracing at least it's borderline perfect. They're agressive but still carefull enough not to make stupid contacts, they make humanlike mistakes. I had so many terrific AI battles in Iracing.

  • @DustySticks
    @DustySticks 2 года назад +7

    I could not disagree more on rF2 AI. I see where you're going for with trying to have a baseline between all sims, but the rF2 AI cannot handle multiclass racing, the AI racing lines at other tracks like Sebring or VIR is basically broken where the AI will basically spin out at the same corners lap after lap causing accidents and retirements. The rF2 AI also has really bad blue flay syndrom where they simply don't get around lapped cars properly which kills any chance of running an offline race at Le Mans properly. On top of that half the field can end in retirement before an hours time, the other half will probably end up taking way too many pit stops to try and fix the damage they had from accidents with the cars that retired from the race. Enduro racing in rF2 is a joke and has been since S397 took over the title.
    Most of these sims can appear to have okay AI for short races with single classes. If you throw in multiclass races or for single seaters real life race distances where pit stop strategy, tire management, and fuel management become a factor the warts can really start to show.
    I find all sims to have major issues in one facet or another that prevents replication of real life race distances and for it being 2022 I find that extremely disappointing. Reiza seem to be the only devs working on improving their AI continuously so I have some hope at least AMS2's AI can continue to improve, but like S397 has all but abandoned AI improvement for their obsession over Esports, Kunos seem to only be interested in doing the bare minimum for AI support, and I stopped following Sector 3 because I felt like they also have put AI development on the back burner.

      multiclass racing in rF2: slow cars don't yield their position when being lapped, and sometimes faster cars are a bit shy when overtaking them, so yes, it's a bit sad.
      multiclass in AMS2 is way better (although not perfect) as faster cars are more aggressive when lapping slower cars (and slower cars try to get out of the way).
      I've had quite good moments with AI fighting side by side through several corners.
      Additionally, AI sometimes make mistakes, and the attributes of each driver can be edited

    It is now 2024. Well I don't do IRacing. I refuse to pay monthly subscriptions to any game.
    So that said, I too enjoy RFactor 2 for AI racing. They seem to be the most aggressive while doing races. Even if you pass an AI car, it will allot of times come back and try to pass me again.
    Have not tried Automobilista 2 since the latest update. Some reviewers say they are very good now. I shall see in the coming weeks. I have all the other games you mention and are very good racing games.
    I have many other racing games to keep me busy racing. F1, Rally, Dirt Rally, Bikes, and Arcade-ish type games. all are unique and fun to do. All above I also do in VR.
    Favorite Series Being from the US, I like doing Nascar and Indycar racing, both their road tracks and Ovals. I have all the tracks for RFactor 2 to do the series.
    Many racing games, once we pass the AI car, they tend to just fade away and leaves just fighting only the AI cars ahead of me.
    For my entertainment I just do offline AI races now. Don't have time to do Online racing. I do short races so that I can do different tracks for a couple of hours. I used to have fun racing in private online leagues several years ago, but as I said, don't have the time anymore.

    iRacing AI is soo damn good, really feels like racing other people. The only downside the AI has is that it is not available for all tracks and cars, other than that it is absolutely brilliant. And honestly i think one of the things they do best aswell is the difficulty scaling. While some AIs on lower difficulty feel like they are just driving to some delta and just drive exactly the same as always just a bit slower, it seems that iracing has really identified what makes a slow driver slow.
    If you are a slow ass driver like me, you can still race them hard and drive as fast as you can, without the fear of rear ending them as i often do in other games, where the AI randomly goes way to slow through corners

The first is that they are very slow on the first lap allowing me sometimes to pass as many as 8 cars on the first lap. Second is at some corners it appears as if they are brake checking me at mid corner and other corners they exhibit a very high level of grip I just cant match allowing them to may times pass me on the outside of a corner. New before you think that I just am not taking the corner optimally let me give you an example. Spa turn 8 I have entered on the inside of the AI car and held my line throughout the corner at the limit of grip only to have the AI car pass me on the outside. I noted their speed through the corner and tried the outside line only to lose grip and 4 wheel drift to the outside or understeer to the outside. I just dont know how they do it.

      Honestly kinda surprising, since NR2003 is still the gold standard for oval AI, and iRacing is effectively the successor

      I don't race oval, but I've heard others say the same. I'd imagine it's pretty difficult to get AI to feel realistic since there is so much strategy involved. They'd also need to factor in things like teams working together. I don't envy the guys working on it, that's for sure.

      Haha no sir! Strictly PC games on this list :) Although I'm sure GT7 is great with the new Sophy AI!

    The aggression slider in ACC is useless. It does nothing, the AI are simply there for visual purposes. I don't do long races on ACC any more as it's simply a parade of differing race lengths. No variety in results, no strategic variety, no mistakes, no battles, nothing. It's my favourite sim but I get bored of it rather quickly.

    I think AC ai is more boring than AM2 ai. I love how AM2 ai when set on agressive keep fighting and make it hard for me to pass sometimes. AC ai just hits me in the back and makes me lose control sometimes.
