PSA: TicsandRoses uses they/them pronouns and I did slip up a few times in this video by misgendering them. I apologize to all of the viewers I may have offended. Even though I don’t agree with their actions, it’s basic human decency to respect someone’s pronouns 💕

I fell down the "fake disorder tiktok" rabbit hole recently, and it's so disturbing. I've been watching both of your videos. I don't have Tourette's, but I still really enjoy your videos! So educational, I've actually watched a few with my (preteen) kids to help them understand acceptance of different disorders and how faking them can be harmful to the community these people are claiming to be a part of. They're at the age where they're getting into Tiktok, so it's helping them be more...aware and cautious of things they may see on there.

I use to care for someone who has Tourette’s and he would say the N-word quite a bit. The amount of times I had to step in and explain he has Tourette’s before he got physically assaulted. Some day his physical tics would be worse than others.

  • @AKbaby89
    @AKbaby89 2 года назад +131

The first thing I noticed about the makeup clip was that she stopped blending her foundation to do the first "tic"
I cant even believe how much energy people put into faking things. I also don't understand how people don't realize that fakers downplaying disorders/diseases/conditions to very vague symptoms, makes everyone who's impressionable think they have the condition, then they spread their experience as how the condition effects someone, and the whole loop starts over again. The more people fake conditions, and self diagnose and refuse actual medical knowledge aka medical providers, the more the condition gets stigmatized as something its not, it makes it harder for people to get diagnosed(not only for misunderstanding of symptoms, but also because of medical providers being more hesitant to diagnose) and causes people who are already suffering, to suffer more.
I'm disabled from Endometriosis & Cyclic vomiting syndrome, but I also have (and have been diagnosed with everything over a decade ago) ADHD, depression, PTSD, social, medical, and generalized anxiety. I cant even explain how frustrating it is seeing what people think ADHD is, and PTSD, and even anxiety and depression. I really hope something changes somehow, I hate how much has been impacted by people faking

I do not have Tourette’s but I do have ADHD, depression and anxiety. While I’m aware the stigmas are completely different, I can understand the frustration that accompanies a disorder and the crowd of fakers that can come along with it. A lot of people who don’t have mental disorders I find don’t understand how frustrating such conditions can really be and how they can impair you. I would be severely angry to find someone online faking ADHD or any other issues I have. So I’m just sorry this exists. It’s nice to be educated on the topic tho and I appreciate hearing y’all’s opinions and experiences! Thank you!

Something I notice whatching you is that the way your muscles contract and move, your tone and movement are almost the same in every tick... and you can almost feel the involuntaty spasm... but for ticksandroses it looks just as a repetitive conscious movement... the muscles don't have that involuntary spasm/contraction look, the words sound different every time which probably correlate with the breathing you said...
Firt it was cool to have depression and be suicidal... then bipolar.. then autism.. now tourette.. idk why some people think mental conditions and illness are fun and trendy

    • @JasminMiettunen
      @JasminMiettunen 2 года назад +7

I think there’s a big portion of teens who have other issues and need help, so they’re copying these things either to get attention/help or have an explanation for their issues. Like faking DID is pretty popular right now, too. I remember wishing I had multiple personalities when I was younger because I felt like I can’t survive on my own, I just wanted to block the trauma and mental illness and be someone else. Probably not a long road from that to dissociating and believing you have it?
The grown adults that do it for clout and profit are disgusting.

    • @melodyvalentine8779

@@JasminMiettunen BPD is another one that people claim all the time now too, not realising how bad it actually is. I've got a friend who has bpd and even I didn't know how bad it was until relatively recently. The name makes it sound like it's just someone with a shit personality, not that it's borderline schizophrenia or something similar. They can hear voices and hallucinate too. All of her behaviour, self harm, suicide attempts, unable to get a grip on her addiction, putting herself in risky situations constantly, going missing, being in hospital for serious things from complications relating to her drug abuse, losing her accommodation and being on the streets because she's met a random man and gone off with him for weeks so she's been kicked out of the supported housing (multiple times), ends up being abused by said men (and women, trans women, and anyone else who takes in a homeless, unwell girl). It all makes sense now I know more about her illness. If people actually knew what came with bpd they wouldn't want it. PTSD is another one I hear all the time. I've been diagnosed with that, depression and anxiety for years. I hate saying it now though because I just know people are gonna think I'm just another one jumping on the bandwagon but I'm 35, I've struggled since I was 16. These people make me sick.

  • @JazzyRedMusic

From what I've learned, it sort of sounds like someone trying to fake having hiccups. Like, hiccups aren't totally consistent, they can be really bad, they can go away for a few hours then suddenly come back, they can be totally arrhythmic, etc. So when someone's faking hiccups, we can understand what they're aiming for, but it's very very clear that they're faking because of subtle things like breaths. You two mentioning the breathing got me thinking about that, like, when you have hiccups you have no control over how you breathe until the hiccup passes and then you can sort of play catch-up. Obviously, hiccups aren't the same as having Tourette's Syndrome, but does that sound like a possibly good analogy for people that don't have it! Apologies if I totally misinterpreted something, really appreciate this content, I'm learning something new all the time :)

I believe tics and roses doesn't have tics because here's my theory:
With their "tics" they say those lines at the appropriate situation while people with real tics say things that don't match the situation and people that don't know about Tourette syndrome get confused
Examples: "wake up!" when they wakes up, "it's too hot!" when they're cooking, "send me to Canada!" when they're unpacking a package
but in other situations they never repeats those lines ever again
    unlike our amazing people that
    -Actually have tics
-Have been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at some point in their life
    -Are valid :)
Ticcing Together and RyleyFreeDaTourettesKid Have Tourette's because they tic and say things that don't match the situation
You'll noticed a lot that Ticcing Together says "i got rice" and "hi" a lot at random times
And RyleyFreeDaTourettesKid says "Oi Mate" and "F*ck off" at random times as well
It's not their faults that they say that because they're tics and tics are unintentional and they don't mean to say them
Therefore they are valid as well as the rest of the people around the world that actually have Tourette syndrome :)

I have epilepsy but my particular type causes very small seizures many times a day. They look and sound really similar to Ryley’s tic that sounds sort of like a hiccup(?) and it honestly makes me feel so much better to see both of them have these tics but just move past them and continue conversation. I get so embarrassed and always, always apologize for the interruption of conversation (I often am very disoriented and lose my place in conversation, though, causing people to backtrack and tell me what I missed-so that’s partially why I feel bad, I guess) or how people always point it out to me or ask about it (which is fine, honestly, because I’d rather help educate than have them go off stereotypes forever). I don’t know if this makes sense, but it genuinely is really nice to see people showing similar reactions (in terms of facial expressions, vocal tics, etc. I know epilepsy and Tourette’s are entirely different) and just like, not really acknowledging it, moving on and having a normal conversation. Not laughing, apologizing, excusing it, etc.
Again, I don’t know if this made sense and I hope it didn’t come off as ignorant or offensive.
Edit: omg and the “my neck is going to hurt a lot tonight” Yes queen, I absolutely relate 😭 (again I know Tourette’s and epilepsy are entirely different, but my specific type of epilepsy causes a ton of small, rapid partial seizes of my face/neck)

The fake disorder tiktok is quite the rabbithole and I wasn't expecting to fall down it or end up on your channel. What's more, I just can't wrap my head around saying someone is faking either. Back when I was in high school, there were certainly some people who either exaggerated or faked their problems for attention, but I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt at first because at the end of the day, I simply don't know. The fact that both of you get fake claimed is just so mind boggling to me.
    Keep doing what you're doing.

What really tops it all is all the conditions and diagnoses they claim to have, including Huntington's Disease, which they can't be diagnosed with Tourette's if they actually HAVE Huntington's! Their grandfather has Huntington's, their mother was recently diagnosed, but they claim to have had bad tics when they were little and being diagnosed with Huntington's as a kid. My sister is a nurse and said they absolutely DO NOT have Huntington's, it doesn't get diagnosed as a kid, and they wouldn't be able to function if they've had it that long.
I honestly believe they have a mental health issue where they have an extreme need for attention.
I've always said that Tourette's is like OCD on steroids with no control over it.
The videos of them where they don't have ANY tics or signs of Tourette's for over an hour! They take whatever situation they are in and come up with "tics" they think will seem influenced by their surroundings, but it's just not believable!
My son has no tics while riding his bike.
Can we get a bunch of Neuro-divergent people, with the conditions they claim to have, together to confront them in person?

I feel like these are more so stims that they are just exaggerating and calling Tourette’s cause some of these things I do as stimming things like the mew and neck bends and such but it’s not something I like to bring attention too either. Like sometimes if I’m really tired I’ll keep doing the same movement over and over but it’s usually anxious stimming when I’m in a stressful environment or have to focus but have too much energy to sit still. Stimming can sometimes look like Tourette’s but it’s definitely not the same and it’s not okay to tell people you have Tourette’s when you don’t.

I really enjoyed this video, and want to thank you both for making it even though it could not have been easy. I'm not super familiar with Tourettes but seeing how you two tic vs. How tics and roses tics really makes it easy to see that they are impersonating what they've seen others. Thank you for making this kind content to help educate us on how life really is with it - admittedly one of the first times I ever saw it was a tics and roses tik tok so I'm relieved to have my misconceptions clearing up on some things.

Tics and Rose's made my blood boil. Shes absolutely a horrible person to even do this. The most horrific part is that because of her ridiculous claims that she "had" tourettes!😏 Is now that people with real tourettes. Like you carly have to now explain yourself and justify your illness.. it must put pressure on you.? All because of an attention seeking individual like emerald!! Carly your real fans know you are genuine. And we absolutely love and admire you. For your bravery and dedication to supporting tourettes sufferers. Totally alot of respect for you ❤

I know Claire (do you spell it with or without an e?) and Ryley says that tics aren't funny and they're tough (which is something that Claire has criticized TicsAndRoses for in the past) but seeing them laugh at their own tics that were triggered because of the other was so genuinely wholesome

This is such a unique video and collab. I really appreciate both of you for bringing awareness and truth to what this disorder is and how it affects your lives. I'm also really happy that you both seemed to have fun talking with each other and were relating to each other about your experiences. I guess if there's one "good" thing that TicsAndRoses did through her scam, it's that she brought more awareness that people really do fake this for clout and that it's really harmful.

I met a guy on PSN who had tourette's. We had a FIFA team together. I'm gay and we we were both teased because we were different. It was friendly enough until it became boring.
Liam (The guy with tourette's) became closer to me and we left after a lot of fun.
Sometimes they would make fun of him and imitate his sniffing tics.
I told him I thought it was cute and endearing. He seemed to really appreciate the comment.
When he showed me a pic of himself I couldn't believe how amazing his jawline was.
I've been diagnosed with ADHD, Bi polar Disorder and Severe Anxiety Disorder. I also have been a high functioning alcoholic for about 10 years.
There isn't anything funny about tourette's, but it can be very endearing.
I hope that's not offensive to say.
    love and hugs

I rarely tic these words but am absolutely mortified when i do. Im a very conscientious person and in no circumstances will say the n-word or r-word, but i have ticced them a couple times. Having tics is not fun or funny. I can not explain the shame ive felt after ticcing certain things. Under no circumstances is faking disorders okay. Got here from watching videos calling out people faking disorders for clout and quirky points. These people are invalidating people with actual disorders and probably are up to thier eyeballs in a victim complex.
I have OCD and panic disorder and suffer from head twitching when triggered and under extreme stress. It's embarrassing and worries me but it's an OCD compulsion to "shake out the bad thoughts" can't imagine what you go through. Compulsive things are maddening and never fun.
Finding myself twitching and ripping out my beard hair is not fun or quirky, it's deeply stressful.

Anyone faking a condition, no matter what it is, is worthy of despise. I’m sorry this person, and even more from what I’m hearing, has happened to your community.
Is it polite to ask a question? I checked the description but didn’t see either way, so I hope this okay! While having a discussion with someone with Tourette’s, is it better? Polite? To wait for a tick to happen when you’re speaking, even if there is a gap, or just talk over it? I noticed both of you seem to talk over the tics, which is what made me think about it.
Thank you very much for spreading knowledge! I’m binging your videos right now to learn more!

OMG watching the driving tic was so disturbing. Me personally my tics are lessened when I'm very focused and I suppress all major tics while driving. It's very painful but on a bad day the most I'll do while driving is blinking or a blow-air-out-of-my-mouth tic. My tics aren't very severe but if they were as severe as they (ticsandroses) claimed theirs to be I wouldn't find them funny while driving, let alone record them.

I have very mild Tourette, and mostly motor tics as well, but people say I'm faking on bad tic days, or when I don't tic at all. It annoying in school because I sit tests with everyone else since one of my complex tics is hitting the desk and saying )or yelling) 'Lockdown everyone run!' when its really quiet. That tic is rare but the whole class starts laughing and the poor teacher needs to try and get everyone back of task. I hit myself a lot, and other people. I'm covered in red marks sometimes and I once broke my hand hitting a wall in my room. Even tho a teacher aid needs to be with me basically all the time to make sure I don't get myself into a fight accidently hitting a 'tough' kid everyone (but my friends and some of the other kids) tell me I'm faking all the time, some people are even scared of my because I'm 'not normal' I don't really know how to make the bulling stop. Anyone have a suggestion?

Oh wow I've never seen the driving one before. That one is truly horrible. If they really had tourettes as bad as they show it to be then they shouldn't be driving at all. But the fact that they're driving really just proves that they're faking their tics bc they know they actually do have control of their actions and won't crash. And it makes it even worse that they're laughing so much like none of that is funny it's just straight up dangerous.

I don’t have Tourette’s but love your vids! One thing that’s very obvious is that none of their tics are ever consistent. They’ll do the same tic twice in the video and it’s never consistent like actual tics. Not just their vocal but they’re body movements as well. They’re body tics are also not aggressive enough? Like they don’t seem jerky and instead look very controlled.

When they say "stop it" to their tick, that reminded me of how I used to mutter "stop hurting me" to myself, but that wasn't a tick. I was just really frustrated and also very mentally ill which ain't the same thing as tourettes. (I developed a flinching tick and a vocal tick that sounds like a chirp from living with mental illness for so long. It's not cute it's annoying and awkward because the more self consious I feel, the more I tick. I just wanted to share.)♥
