Thank you Mr HubNut, that was an awesome walk through the show. Beyond cool to have you as a guide. Rolling heritage always impressive. Really looking foward to part 2!
How can you not love the passion and attention to detail of the Retropower boys? Especially Stu. Genuine old-fashioned metalworking skills at an unbelievable level. And their approach to machinery is totally HubNut: none of this "Smallest Cog" with brand-new everything, they have motor-adapted bead rollers, an English wheel that has earned its keep for a very long time, and an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" set of welding kit.
What a fantastic Part 1 to the car show. What a great range of fantastic looking cars so far in the show. I look forward to seeing the next episode of The Classic Car Show.
I think the Hillman Hunter rally win (15:30 ish) was actually London to Sydney. Shortly afterwards, I owned a Hunter in rural New South Wales, and my surprise was increased (not a rough roads car). It was such a shock that the Rootes Group distributors didn't have any PR stuff ready to capitalise on it. Thank you showing us the pretty cars (a lot of them are pretty, indeed).
Another cracking report. That Bertone Stratos reminds me of the Bob Reisner designed and Oldsmobile Toronado based Panthermoblie from the Pink Panther TV series of the early 70s. 😀
What an amazing collection of wonderful automobile history - love the mix of older/newer, ordinary/super rare and sometimes totally unique. I so wish I could have been able to go there... Very much looking forward to part 2!
Great walk around vid, really enjoyable. Can’t believe you walked past the BMW E9 at 27:40 without comment. Surely the prettiest BM ever made. Would love to see an E9 or E3 review on the channel at some point.
Thank you for the calendar. Scotty got a well deserved oil change Sunday, after his run up and down the M40. Here's an idea; The Classic Motor Show should employ people like you to take groups around the show, pointing out details like you do in this video. The show would be so much more engaging, having things brought to life by some one who knows what they're looking at.
Very enjoyable, Ian, and exuding a certain calm before the crowd storm ... it pays to do these things at a slower pace, visually and as far as contents are concerned
Brilliant Ian, I think I'm going to definitely try to visit next year. So many interesting cars to look at! That Renault 7 at the end... what a weird thing they are!
Hi Ian, I live in France and today, on a routine shopping trip, I saw a Renault 7! I then shouted across the car to my bemused wife 'WOW A RENAULT 7, IVE NEVER SEEN ONE BEFORE" I then returned home and put your film on, only to be confronted in the dying moments with, not only a Renault 7, but one in the same colour I had seen earlier today! What are the odds on that!
Andy Saunders is an absolute legend, I've been following him since the 80's in Street Machine Magazine, amongst many others he did 2 amazing Citroen CX builds. I hadn't seen the RIley before and thought it was a Delahaye, I love the Cord too. I am with you regards the Picasso 2CV though, that was a miss for me. Check out his car called "Claustophobia", that thing is crazy considering Andy is 6ft 4!
This show is my favourite, and the walkabout commentary whilst it is quiet is exceptional. I have it on my list, of things to do since I lost my left leg in June '20, spent 20 months in bed, began walking April this year, hope to walk unaided perhaps next year around this show.....Time will tell. 100k knocking on the 🚪, should be a great Christmas 🎄 present 🎁.
The Cavalier Calibre was based on the Cavalier SRi 130, with bespoke Irmscher bodykit. Rare car. The Chevette/Kadett was sold in many guises, including a Chevrolet as you said - Isuzu made a sports coupe in the 1980s called the Piazza - smart looking car in an 80s kind of way, and it was based on the Chevette.
Great video Ian, but I must correct you with regard to the Triumph 2000 that you saw. That car is actually a 2.5 PI which I owned many years ago and sold to a Triumph enthusiast .It did at one time drive with twin carbs when the wife used it as daily transport .When I bought her a Triumph Acclaim I put the PI gear back on and that was how I sold her with about 50 K on the clock. Fantastic to see the old girl at the NEC. Never did I expect that. Thank you so much for allowing me to see my old classic. Keep up the great videos.
One thing l noticed how colourful classic cars are so much to look at l also like your detailed knowledge of classic cars and l realy like Project Utah l like it because it has the solution to many unreliable classic you make it reliable by putting a Toyota engine in it and the Toyitas all that reliability lovely and you mentioned the 1968 London to Sydney marathon were the Hillman Hunter won the Citreon DS got taken out but why the owner of the Daily Mail wanted a british built car to win well he got his wish done a bit of research on it and the reason why Hillman didn't make a big deal of it
Ian sorry to correct you! But that fleet of Rolls Royce cars at 26:46 are Bentleys. I'll take the blame as I was wittering on to you and Tim about Rolls Royce fuel sender fasteners.
Great walkabout, Ian. I am very impressed by your range of knowledge on such a broad spectrum of cars. I have a NEC vid in the making but luckily it will be different enough to still be interesting. By contrast mine has me ummin and arring as I haven't a clue. Good job they have badges on them and info boards! Good to see you the other day. Mart in Solihull.
i know someone who had a Talbot Samba, a friend who i used to go to school with, his Mother owned one and me and him and his Sister used to sit in it and pretend we were driving it on her driveway, fun times.
I remember a red Vauxhall Cavalier Calibre for sale at Worfield Garage outside Bridgnorth which was a Vauxhall dealership until very recently. It was in late 1988 when I saw it there. The Now 12 cassette has it dated spot on.
A late friend of mine, John Baker, who was service manager at Jensens of West Bromwich restored a Gordon Keeble. His car was No 84, FWE 893C. I was recently given his membership card to the owners club, the year 1985.
Good video Ian . We spent a good while chatting to the owner of that green mk3 Cortina 1600GXL. A real lovely fella he was. Apparently there are only 7 mk3 1600 GXLs left now, as most of the GXLs back in the day were 2000s.
Hi I had Toyota Corona mk2 when I was 18 always being pulled up by the police asked is this your car sonny then given yellow ticket to produce documents at the local station. It was quite swift compared with the stuff the british were turning out not to mention tinted windows and radio, cigar lighter front and rear lots of toys for the time, loverly car but rust took it in the end. My god that was 43 years ago. Thanks for the videos Ian always look out for them
Nice steady camera work this time. I missed some of these vehicles as I only had seven hours on site. Really wanted to see the Kadett’s as I had one as my first car when they were everywhere in South Scotland. Crashed mine quite spectacularly and was lucky to survive.
Fab video Ian. A few personal faves: the Mk1 Tranny (twin-wheel, lift-up rear door); the Chevette/ Kadett stand (the latter resembles the Oz Holden Gemini); the Triumph Toledo/ 1300 pair; the FIAT 1500 Spyder (gorgeous); didn't know that about Gatsonides; I want (need) a SAAB 94 (give us a bit more, please); the Mk1 Fiesta with Serck font(?) numberplates; I haven't seen a Peugeot 104 since the dark ages. Lovely job, looking forward to Part 2, I hope you give me a better view of that metallic green VX 4/90.
Brilliant report Ian, nice to see a lot of cars I've owned over the years, have to agree my 309 GTI was a much better car than the 205 my brother had many moons ago.
It's not often I disagree with HubNut but calling a Vectra C a modern classic is a bit of a stretch 😉 banger track is the best place for them! source: I've owned one 🙈
@@Jasonhughes258 I don't think it should ever be allowed, a car that dull can't ever be a classic in my opinion, there aren't many cars I'd say that about either!
Wise words on the 309GTI. Loved mine until the stupidity of relative youth decided to "improve" it. Keeping my current NA MX5 stock. Lessons learnt. Fine round up as ever.
Thanks for the walkaround and kind words on my acty. It's an original engine albeit freshly rebuilt and a few other bits like air filter and stainless exhaust and gauges added so technically it has mechanical improvements but to original performance specs - I guess that's the kind of thing you meant. 🙂
Absolutely 💯 brilliant 👏 Ian , thanks for a fantastic walk round the show, especially as I couldn't get there. Can we have some ... " I Drive a Furious Nut " Colab' Hoodies please?
The Isuzu Gemini was rebadged as a Holden in Australia for several model series. You might have been lucky to have seen one when you were Down Under, as they are quite rare now.
ahem. Peugeot 104 spawned 3 lengths… shortest = 3dr 104 (saloon then hatch) and Citroen LN/LNA, middle (and later) formed the Samba, and long = 5dr 104 (always a hatch)
I came down on Saturday to come check out Ellie in the flesh, also got to see one of my dream cars the RX-7 FD. Would love to see a video of you test driving one!
Great report 👍 I think that rally-Lada might be VFTS-Lada, or repro, at least bodykit looks like VFTS. That was (still is?) Lithuanian company which tuned Ladas for rally use.
Fond memories of my 240Z although I wouldn't say it was the best car in the world - very pretty though but. Also I'm reminded of my Daimler 66C of which I could reduce fuel consumption to 6mpg on short journeys in town with the chokes open! In the old days of 'loadsamoney'??
alot of timeless classics we dont get too see any more thanking for sharen
Project Utah is astonishing
Thank you Mr HubNut, that was an awesome walk through the show. Beyond cool to have you as a guide. Rolling heritage always impressive. Really looking foward to part 2!

All the cars looking fantastic under the lights great stuff Mr Hubnut
So grateful for this Ian, i never get to go and the fact that you get to film before the rush of the public just tops it.
I think the Hillman Hunter rally win (15:30 ish) was actually London to Sydney. Shortly afterwards, I owned a Hunter in rural New South Wales, and my surprise was increased (not a rough roads car). You would need to be there for a week to truly look around all these vehicles absolutely beautiful cars Ian
Another cracking report. That Bertone Stratos reminds me of the Bob Reisner designed and Oldsmobile Toronado based Panthermoblie from the Pink Panther TV series of the early 70s. 😀
Ian really is the best isn't he?!?! Magnificent commentary 🙂
Wow! There sure are plenty of beautiful cars, great tour and great information! 👌
Great to see Mr Saunders still on the scene.
The more sedated pace worked better for me. Thank you! I've the clock always telling me what to do next, so this is more relaxing!
What an amazing display. Thanks!
What an amazing collection of wonderful automobile history - love the mix of older/newer, ordinary/super rare and sometimes totally unique. I so wish I could have been able to go there... Very much looking forward to part 2!
Oh my! The Bertone Zero.. Been my favorite car for 40 years.

Lovely! Thank you!
I must say, much more interesting than car shows in the US....
Lada VFTS!!
Excellent rally cars, their crossflow engines sound so good too :)
Great video, Ian. So many wonderful cars 😍👌🏼
Some gorgeous looking cars there, loving them opel gt's.
Candy red Opel GT just beautiful. Loved the Vauxhall's thanks for showing us that couldn't make the event.
and thank you for the slow walk.

You walked past the very rare viva Estate Green, my father had one in the 70s.
Very enjoyable, Ian, and exuding a certain calm before the crowd storm ... it pays to do these things at a slower pace, visually and as far as contents are concerned
What a fantastic show ❤❤

The Celica is glorious. Love the Stratos as a concept, it is so alien I bet the USAF filmed it recently as an UFO.
it always reminds me of the pink panther car.

YES ANOTHER SHOUT OUT THANKS MATEY
Nicely done 🍻
A very nice and informative video with lots of interesting automobiles.Thank you👍👍👍
Some very beautiful cars
Great little video Ian, some amazing cars on display too many to choose a favourite but has to be the Peugeot 306 XSI.
i know someone who had a Talbot Samba, a friend who i used to go to school with, his Mother owned one and me and him and his Sister used to sit in it and pretend we were driving it on her driveway, fun times.
Thanks for the report I look forward to part two with that very young car enthusiast!!
I really do like the 3 door Series 1 Discoveries, think they where sold and rebadged as Honda's for sale in Japan for a very short time.
Yes, the Honda Crossroad.
Loving the Ascona 400 near the start!
Thanks so much for this wonderful video it brings back a lot of memories greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

32:14 that Peugeot is a 205 GTI 1FM the one that was done as for radio 1 25th anniversary and only 25 where made

A real pleasure to meet Tim on the stand on Friday and have a natter

Sheer Delight !!
Haven't watched this video yet but I know it's going to be fantastic. Met Ian Sat, what a very pleasant fello he really is. Enjoyed talking to him
Thanks! Good to meet you.
I think Opel Kadett C Coupé is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
So many variants of cars we never got to see in Australia, fantastic Ian thankyou so much great vid mate. Aussie Graham.

I can remember andy as doing various cars, a boat and a shortened mini in custom car mag
My boss had a V12 E type in metallic pink back in 73.

Thoroughly enjoyed your walk around Ian
You are the working man's Harry metcalf😀
I'll take that honour!
Lovely cars and very good video 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My 2013 Vauxhall Astra 2.0CDTI SRI Sports Tourer was built in Germany just like the older Opel Kadette.
I came down on Saturday to come check out Ellie in the flesh, also got to see one of my dream cars the RX-7 FD. Would love to see a video of you test driving one!
The Corona MkII (RT60), was a separate model from the Corona, which used the smaller body (RT40)
