    The Commer van brings back memories. Especially of the day when I pulled away up hill and the twin back doors opened and the load of eggs (and person sat with them) started to slide towards the open doors! It never stopped so fast in its live.

    • @habsom1406
      @habsom1406 3 года назад +2

      Yeah brings back memories, my Dad had a Commer Luton van with a ten foot plastic aerial which were the rage back in the 70's along with Mickey Mouse and Pluto graphics on the front and a La Cuckooracha air horn. I recall a child running out from behind an ice cream van and my Dad stomping on the brakes, we all nearly went through the windscreen the huge van stopped instantly despite or because it had huge drum brakes on the front. That thing had a lovely cushiony ride, I think it had coil springs on the front where the equivalent transit and other commercial vans of that era tended to have leaf springs. And the wipers parked themselves just under the roof line.

    The yellow Kadett C looks exactly like my one which I owned as my first car . I was so surprised to see one in this video because I never knew that you can find it there. I thought in the U.K. only Chevettes have been sold. After the Kadett C production was stopped in 1979 and the Kadett D with frontwheeldrive had been introduced, a small number of Chevettes have been imported to Germany until 1981.

    That Maestro van immediately brings nback memories of me watching Mr. Bean!!! I remember some Royal Mail vans touring around in the background of several of his sketches, but not sure whether it were Fords or Maestro's.
    When there is a lovely sculpted Triumph 2000/2500 and a W126 next to it, of course HubNut goes to the W126 that is boxy, and without character honestly.

Always sat with the arse end scraping the floor as it always had a boot full of tools and ladders on the roof, even when the rear shocks failed, it still didn’t bother it.
    I seem to recall it didn’t have any rear badges either as they were almost painted on the tail lights, probably sort of screen printed but I seem to remember being able to polish them off.

What an amazing diversity. Must admit, initially I thought the Royal Mail van was a different model of the Royal Nail van that I hadn't seen before. Talking of which, there seemed to be a lot of Mk.IV Escorts and Orions, but no Mk.IIIs. Maybe they were just too rusty to survive. Lovely Mk.V Cortina Ghia, the orange indicators worked really well with sable brown paintwork.

    I must admit, I think that flash cars like the bentleys should be banned from that event, as they're just not interesting.
    The gentleman who owns that Polo breadvan in the concours actually lives near where I work!! He was telling me about the event on Friday, but he didn't tell me that his car was in the top 6!!
    Without doubt though, the breadvan, the mk1 Punto, Myrtle, and Matt's 740 were the best cars there. 🙂

    Incredible how many everyday cars like these fell foul of the Ford scrappage scheme in the late '00s. It made my blood run cold seeing a car transporter loaded up with what were probably still decent cars with plenty of life left in them being taken off to the knackers yard instead of being someone's first car after they passed their driving test or denying anyone the opportunity to find an affordable car as a daily runabout.
