- An absolutely extraordinary gathering of yesteryear's street furniture - and the event was won by a Daihatsu Applause that had driven 3000kms from Sweden! Perfect. #carshow #fotu #classiccars
As well as filming MANY Unexceptional cars, we caught up with @WrenchingWench and @UPnDOWN (it was his birthday) and a HubNutter who had travelled all the way from Portugal!
Highlights include a Mitsubishi Galant, a Metro made even more basic by @MorselsAndMotors , a Vauxhall Sintra, a Tatra 603 with a Moskvich Aleko behind it and the Mighty Dacia even made an appearance!
Thanks to all who came and said hello. Roll on 2023.

The driver of the "patternated" Vauxhall Cavalier was Dougie from Once Driven Forever Smitten
No rain, shorts, sandals, loads of "unexceptional" treats and even an arguably non-youtubist microphone!!!.. how could it be better? hahaha. Thanks for that!!!
Brilliant show, and I'm sure most would agree that without your presentation it would appear to be just another car show. Commentary perfection, absorbing, informative, and infectiously enthusiastic. Well done to the winners, but, through my eyes I see no losers.
'not affiliated with ronnie pickering' on the picasso is the best sticker ever 😂
Wonderful, such great cars from my childhood. Full marks to the people who keep them running.
Wow that was just refreshing! Every show video that gets thrown into my feed is always full of fast cars or collectibles that have appreciated to unenjoyable prices .. this was more like a walk down memory lane looking at cars that littered the roads over the last few decades 🙂✌️ great work !
HUBNUT ....FURIOUS DRIVING......I DRIVE A CLASSIC ..............good honest bunch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
This was simply fantabulous. Brilliant stuff, great chats, so much joy over some truly unexceptional cars... I want to go there now.
Having owned one, my highlight comes right at the end in the form of a wonderful Charade GTti 😎
Love your passionate down to earth approach to old-timers. No nonsense, only popular time capsules. Great video!
11:37 once driven forever smitten, cavalier diplomat 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm sure that lacquer peeling cavalier is the one and only Dougie from once driven forever smitten, superb 👍
11:35 my good scottish pal Dougie from Once Driven, Forever Smitten in his Cavalier Diplomat
People show you so much love & recognition Ian.
Lucky man.
Lovely machines. Lovely people. Warms the heart. 😍
It is heart warming to see the passion people have for their cars, treated like members of their family. A simple car doesn't make it inferior, you just have get more involved in the driving experience. So many cars and interesting stories, I wish such things happened here. Thanks HubNut for being such a diplomat and enthusiastic presenter of this event. Great sound and camera work btw, take a bow on that.
What a brilliant show, such an incredible inclusive and passionate atmosphere with the best variety captured perfectly here. It was a true pleasure to meet you both at the show and to get the HubNut seal of approval on my car honestly made my year. A huge thank you to you both for all that you do for the community, your passion is infectious and your humbleness and positivity are truly inspiring.
Hear! Hear! 👍👍👏👏👏👏
Classic retro rain man strikes again
Superb thank you
Absaloutly fantastic video Ian miss hubnut ❤👍 what an amazing collection brilliant
I do approve of the Garfield window ornament in that award winning Astra Merit.
That reminds me of the 'highly amusing' half a cat you could have poking out of the bonnet. Happy days.
@@TheDern I was just talking about those with my Dad. I tried looking for a picture of one but couldn't find any. 😹
What a fabulous show, most things are just so ordinary, and completely wonderful
Excited enthusiasm for unexeptional .lovely
I love the enthusiasm; it's infectious!
So lovely to see a Portuguese car in the event whilst on hols in Portugal!
@ Ian, Portugal is a live museum of unexceptional cars. You can easily see loads of 20, 30 and 40 year old cars still going about everywhere! You should definitely come and feast your eyes!! I'm sure you'd love it!
Wonderful. My favourite hub nut video of the year. Liking the Mazda 626 estate at the end.
Thank you what a great day out i hope you got home safely a big hug from us all.
My Uno 4:53 😃😃😃
Well worth the 390 miles round trip, second time seeing this show.
Great cars great company tidy presentation 👍🏼
The 80s Audi's were gorgeous. Shout out to the Daihatsu Applause. My cousin owned a tuned import from Japan.
Brilliant you know virtually every car and driver arriving
That Tatra 603 is awesome, Tatra's are awesome cars and trucks too, some fabulous 12 cykinder air cooled diesels with 8x8 drive in military ones
What a great show, thanks for sharing what must have been a great day.
Peugeot 106 van 🥰 The stuff of dreams 😍
Just enthusiastic car people and gloriously unpretentious- refreshing! You do this sort of thing very well Ian- enjoyed this one very much.
Awesome cars. Thank you😃👍
Great event. Much more interesting and relevant to most people than usual car shows.
I had a T reg Renault 14 GTL in black. A lovely car but it didn't like hills and despite my best efforts it quickly succumbed to rust. It was good to see one still running.
Unlike other well known RUclipsrs it’s great how you engage with the drivers and show an interest. One well known guy who doesn’t like diesels chats openly about cars and ignores the people sitting behind them which strikes me as rather rude. Great video .
@11.37 I couldn't help but chuckle when you failed to recognise Dougie from Once driven, forever smitten!
Onwards and upwards, I look forward to more of your walks and other adventures. AJ
The famous, cheery, truly car loving HubNut. Thanks for a great video. Peace be unto you.
Well done Ian. Fantastic presentation. Well done to Miss Hub Nut for her great camera work!
I LOVED this video Ian. Not just great cars, you delivered it very well as the roving correspondent along with your brilliant amateur camera lady, Mrs HubNut. Hopefully this show continues to get bigger and better. I might even bring my project car in once shes completed. Great show! 👍
As a former owner of a Vauxhall Cavalier TD LS, BX TGD and Renault 5 GTD (5 door) this video got me very emotional!
I'm so pleased to see the number of channels on YT (and elsewhere) who have covered this event (including yourself as MC). I mean, there were real professional types who turned up and filmed it too. ;)
😛
Brilliant!!!!
Brilliant video.
Excellent stuff Ian thank you 👍
Exceptional cars 👍
Great video. Loved the roving reporter element. Kudos to the Portuguese chap how sweet!
Thank you for the great report from this amazing show. I wish I was able to attend and bring my Wagon R+ or VW Caddy over fron Denmark. The interviews gave me serious "The Antiques Roadshow" vibes - and that IS a compliment. You did a sterling job. The three Tercels was just incredible - one of many dream cars from my childhood in the '80's. I still have my Majorette model Tercel. The stand out cars for me were the dark blue rare unknown Alfa saloon that you saw drive in (you should have tracked that car down for a video feature), the early beige Rover 414 from the drive in line-up, and finally that Kangoo 4x4. Keep up the excellent work.
My kind of men, I would say exceptional. Remember most people don't know what they want, they just want 'more'.
Wonderful. Really interesting interviews as well. I just can't get enough of this show.
Brilliant review! Thank you team hubnut ❤
Excellent presentation, caught the atmoshere of the day perfectly. You caught two of the three Punto Cabrios present. Ours was the blue 1994 model next to the amazing Tatra and it shares some components with your Corsa. It has a GM ecu and the ignition components are all GM including the coil which looks identical to yours (most Puntos have two twin coils).
Mine was the red one! Thrilled to hear Miss HubNut exclaim "wow, that's so cool" as I drove in 😆 it was a great show - my first time at FOTU and hopefully not the last
@@joshbrailsford ours was actually in shot when you drove by, just visible next to the Tatra. I had a good look at yours, but unfortunately you were not around at the time. It was interesting to see a later model.
Fabulous! So many great cars there! A friend had a Sintra (I called it Frank 😉). They only had it a couple of weeks before it dropped the power steering pulley and caused quite a brown-trouser moment as the steering was monumentally heavy without it!
Superb 45 mins break from reality!! Loved it all, especially the guy who drove from Portugal, what a Hubnutter xD Thanks Ian.
These are my magic numbers: the Peugeot 309, the Renaults 12 and 14 and the DAF 33. I love overlooked vehicles (like my beloved C1). Thanks for the video, guys. That was GREAT!
Best event of the year with not only an eclectic mix of cars but also people. Loved it. ❤
Been waiting for this video! The variety of cars at FOTU is amazing, and being in the U.S., many models were not offered here.
I already gushed on Matt's video about the Oldsmobile Silhouette but I can't be excited enough about it. What a wild car to see here!
I stayed with the owner earlier this year. Must do a video on it next time.
Great to see the Mitsubishi Galant at 3:39.
I actually saw a Mitsubishi Jeep on the road on my travels the other day, very rare beast.
Fantastic Video Ian, loved the “Brundle on the pit lane” type of coverage of a fantastic event, which was a first for me and I definitely will be back next year.
It’s great to see and chat to the owners… even my wife who isn’t a car person enjoyed it. The people make this event a great one.
Also, good to see my friend Erickson on your video too.
Wish we had this kind of show in NZ...
It's a great festival. Very sociable. Some of the 90s rep mobiles had nice touches inside like period phones, filofax and cigarettes.
good event with great coverage. thanks Ian and Carly. love the diversity
Monsieur, with this Tercel Triumvirate you're really spoiling us.
Waxing lyrical over a dented poverty spec mk 1 Sierra while ignoring the De Lorean parked next to it - this is, I feel, the quintessential Hubnut moment.
It's great to see that at least some of these vehicles getting rescued from ULEZ-schemes and scrapyards, and people getting excited over poverty-specs, and cars that were ordinary a few decades ago, but almost gone by now.
These are the ones probably nobody had a 2nd thought back then to send them to the scrapper, but somehow a few of them still survived, despite all odds. Without these fanatic people, many of these old models would've disappeared without a trace from our roads, massive respect for all the owners!
In Hungary though, we still regularly use these cheap old cars as dailies, so a random, non-brand specific car gathering has similar vibes, just with more focus on Eastern Bloc cars :) Alekos are true rarities even here though, interesting to see one in the UK.
Always great Ian
Phenomenal ability to identify cars on the hoof. Wondering what unexceptional vehicle I would take, maybe a Hyundai Matrix, or a Daewoo. There's a tiny B reg Suzuki Swift and a Mazda Carol in the locality which might do. In its day something like an Austin 1100 or Ford Cortina could be the most unexceptional.
I'm so sad this show wasn't really about when I had my old C10 Colt. Would have fit right in here!
AMAZING, this was a joy to watch! Thank you so much!
I'm so unhappy i missed this so glad i have you to put this on , fingers crossed i get to the next one 😊
The fella with the red Galant summed it up succinctly when he says “smiles per mile.” This is what classic (or unexceptional) car ownership is all about
Really great show Ian loved the VW fastback also the Subaru Justy a dear late friend had one.
Really pleased a Diahatsu won Miss Hubnut will be pleased a lovely car indeed.
Simply excellent Mr & Miss H.
Passion and knowledge makes great viewing. The white Rover 216 Vitesse made strange/wonderful feelings happen inside. ❤
What a great video.
I’ve never heard of this festival, but I need to come next time! Wow❤
Another top video HubNutters. A brilliant bunch of the unexceptional, the very cars that I love. I would have loved to pop in but health issues had other ideas. Many thanks to Bath RUH. Hopefully I'll be able to make the next one.
Best wishes!
You better watch out, Hubnut's about !! 🎤
I love this diverse format, excellent video again. Well done, Team Hubnut 👍😀
Brilliant video, thank you Ian and Carly.
There was a slight moment of both joy and sadness for me at about 19:40. The green Toledo you panned past KOJ859P, my first car way back in 1988 was a white Toledo KOJ641P so they would very possibly have been new at the same dealer within days if not at the same time. Sadly mine burned out on the M5 in September 1990, last time I saw it was when the recovery truck dropped me off at a train station so I could get home. Very sad times.
Awesome... Would love a MK2 astra
30:51 Lovely, lovely beige Metro here ....... Now that's a phrase I haven't heard in a long, long time.
Exceptional video & shirt 👍
Wow what an amazing exceptional show the snippets with the owners make all the difference
It shows how hard Ian works and how far his reach on socials and in person, that he knows so many people randomly turning up and plenty more know him on sight.
Thank you carly for your camera work and keeping his knees some what under control.❤
Sensory overload! I so wish to take my trusty Renault Modus there some day!
We missed your 10.30am session on the panel due to the horrendous queue to get in. Over one hour of crawling traffic from the gate, with your friend Rich in The Mighty Dacia a few cars ahead. My Alfa Romeo 156 suffered a gear shift linkage detachment and had to be abandoned close to the castle. RAC came to the rescue later in the day and we were able to drive home. So sorry that we never saw you all day, I had intended to say hello to the HubNut family. Maybe next time.
Aw! What a pain!
I’ve never heard of this meeting but, i LOVE this and i’m for sure coming next year!!
How nice to see these '"unexceptional" cars so well preserved by their owners 👏
Great video
Thank you Ian for your marvellously enjoyable report! It helps makes up for not being able to go this year, due to work commitments. But what a great event. I hope to visit next year in 2024!
I found myself grinning 😁 all through that. Thanks to you both. I am planning to come as a spectator next year. YIPPEE. Also will visit Britains Great Car Journey. A couple of new additions to my bucket list to tick off.
Would be great to see you again!
It's amazing how big this event gets each year. Now loving the fact cars from the early 2000's are creeping into mix now.
i think that most cars from the 2000's on are unexceptional anyway :) so deserve a place here
@budycelyn the rate they are scrapped off is incredible. It now only takes one small bump and a modern car is wrote off instantly. From past Hubnut videos going around scrap yards it is most new cars some of which could be repaired, but insurers have told the owner its too expensive to do so.
Never knew that the Metro HLE had taller gearing. Learnt something.
I noticed on this example that the economy gearing is highlighted by the gear pattern having a green ‘E’ instead of the usual ‘4’ for 4th.
Great video - loved the mix of watching the arrivals, and interviews. Really enjoyed this!
What a wonderful selection!
